Hi!! May I request a dadneto fic of them calling each other dad and son for the first time? 🥰
Of course my love I’m a total sucker for dadneto. ❤️❤️❤️ I hope you enjoy
Dad.
Summary: Peter didn’t need a dad and he was sure Erik didn’t want a loser like him for a son. His father had already had the perfect family and had them snatched from him. Peter like he usually is was wrong.
Warnings: Peter has low self worth and anxiety. There’s a bit of angst but nothing heart wrenching. I don’t even think I cursed this time but I might have.
Pairing: there isn’t one just some good old fashioned father, son bonding. Maybe Cherik if you squint and turn your head to the left.

——————————————————————————
Peter had been avoiding Erik like the plague since the older mutant had moved into the school to help with construction. Peter may be twenty seven but telling someone they missed out on twenty seven years of their child’s life wasn’t an easy thing to do. Peter knew if he couldn’t tell the man at the end of the world then it probably wasn’t going to happen.
His issue was he had already opened his fat mouth to Raven who kept trying to trap them in a room alone together. She had even gotten Charles in on it. Sure Erik had a right to know he had another child but it shouldn’t be Peter's responsibility to inform the man he had a child much less adult twins. His mother had really dropped the ball on that one.
Peter was content to just continue living his life as if everything was the same as always. He didn’t need a dad, he was a grown ass man at this point. He was afraid the information would only make Erik even more depressed. He had seen a picture of Nina in his snooping and he had determined that the tiny girl was everything he wasn’t.
She was beautiful with a tiny freckled nose and big blue eyes. She couldn’t be a loser like her big brother who up until a couple of months ago had still been living in his mother’s basement. Why would Erik want someone like him in his life much less as a son.
“Peter you’re spiraling” The professor's voice echoed through his head and Peter groaned frustrated. He pounded on his ear like he had water caught inside.
“Peter you should tell him I can be there with you if you’d like” The professor's meddling voice came again causing Peter to lose that round of Ms. Pac-Man.
“You see Professor, I would do that but I know he doesn’t want a loser basement dweller for a kid.” Peter shot back turning up his music even louder letting the voice of his generation sweep over him. David Bowie was a king and nobody could tell him otherwise.
“Peter, you aren’t a loser, you took on Apocalypse by yourself and lived to tell about it, rather loudly I might add. You also are starting a teaching position here in the fall. You are such a good kind hearted person don’t degrade yourself that way.” Charles scolded. This was an ongoing argument between the two men and it never seemed to change his mind.
“I mean, is a P.E. Teacher even a real teacher Professor?” Peter asked.
“Physical Education is a very important role in children’s lives”Charles retorted to the unconvinced twenty-something. Peter could feel the frustration bubbling up inside him. He jerked in surprise when his watch that was laying on the side table forgotten began to vibrate. He snatched it clasping it around his wrist taking deep even breaths just trying to calm down.
So he inherited more than just the x-gene from his father. He had a secondary mutation, that was just great. He would have to be even more cautious than he already was. He knew Raven would try to trigger this in front of Erik if she found out. Which she would with her brother being a freaking mind reader.
***
“I need all staff members to my office for a staff meeting” Charles' voice echoed loudly in his head. He zipped to the office finding that Charles and Erik were already there. He should have taken his time and the tension could be cut with a knife.
“Peter, how are you? I haven’t seen you around much” Erik greeted the silver haired mutant politely.
“Oh you know I’ve just been around” Peter waved him off and he could feel the professor’s eyes burning into him like Scott’s lasers.
“Peter did you know that Erik will be staying on a our new foreign language professor?” Charles asked and Peter could once again feel the frustration start to bubble up.
“Really? I thought the government gave you an island or something?” Peter asked pointedly, ignoring the professor’s smug grin.
“Well I decided that I should stay, one thing apocalypse was right about was mutants needing to stick together” Erik explained and Peter was suddenly regretting taking this job.
“Isn’t it delightful Erik is fluent in so many languages German, Russian, French, Spanish, and even Polish. Peter isn’t your mother originally from the Ukraine?” Peter wanted to glare at the older man but couldn’t...not without giving himself away at least.
“No she’s originally from Poland she moved to the Ukraine after being liberated with my ciotka” Peter bit out unknowingly feeding Erik valuable information.
“You are Jewish?” Peter wanted to run, he supposed he had Jewish blood he had known his father was Jewish.
“Romani” Peter answered shortly, trying to hint that he didn’t want to talk about it. He also wasn’t technically lying to be Jewish your mother technically had to be Jewish.
“And your last name is Maximoff?” Peter could feel the anxiety build up in his throat cursing his seventeen year old self for dropping the fact that his mother quote “knew someone who could control metal”.
Erik began staring hard at the boy taking in his features. He began to see a resemblance to Magda, his ex wife. He tried to explain it away he was probably Marya’s child, but how likely was it that Marya would give birth to a child with a mutation. He knew that Django and her husband didn’t have any mutation that he knew about.
Erik’s calculating gaze only served to push Peter that much closer to an anxiety attack. He could feel his already swift heart rate pick up even faster with his emotions. He could feel the cool metal of the watch hum and he fought the anxiety. The last thing Peter needed was to give Erik another clue. Controlling metal would be like a neon sign yelling I’m your son.
“Your mother was her name Marya or Magda?” Erik asked, still studying the nervous man. With his mother’s name all the metal in the professor’s office began to hum and vibrate. Peter began internally cussing as Erik’s eyes went wide. He started to bolt out the door but was held in place by his watch and the zipper on his jacket.
“Peter” was all Erik could say and suddenly Peter began to wonder if the professor hadn’t called the staff meeting and only let him and Erik know. That was something he should have expected from Raven not the professor. It seemed being a meddling meddler ran in their family.
“Uh yeah?” He nervously rubbed the back of his neck trying to get the metal in the room to stop vibrating.
“Your mother, her name was Magda” Erik remarked, it was a statement not a question. He couldn’t help but wish the Wanda was here with him. She had always been the smarter twin.
“Ummm yeah” he confessed. Erik’s face looked like a cross between anguish and pure joy. Anguish that he had missed so much of his child’s life and joy that he had been reunited with said child. This was Anya’s baby brother and Nina’s elder brother. Erik knew that he would protect Peter with all of his might from now on. Erik would not waste another moment.
“My son” Erik’s voice was thick with emotion as he started down his adult child. Peter went to look at Charles for help but cursed when he saw that the wheelchair bound man had excused himself without Peter or Erik noticing.
Erik staggered forward wrapping his arms around the man and Peter melted. Peter may not have needed a father but that wasn’t to say he didn’t want one. He had always craved male companionship, he had always looked forward to visiting his aunt and uncle as a child. This was different though this man was his father, something his uncle Django tried to be for him but never really could. Erik’s hug was warm and safe and strong and he suddenly felt like he was fifteen years old again.
“Dad,” he muttered, finally squeezing the older man back fighting back tears. He had thought Erik would be angry, that he would think that Peter was trying to replace Nina. Erik wasn’t angry though, Erik was relieved he had his family. His family might not be whole but at least he had part of it.
“You have my mother’s eyes” Erik informed him, as he pulled back to further examine Peter’s face. Peter had always thought that his eyes were a dull brown, he had always wished they were bright like his mother and sister’s were. He supposed this was better, if he had his grandmother's eyes that meant that a part of her lived on.
Peter knew that he needed to inform Erik of Wanda, but that could wait a few more moments. For now all Peter wanted to do was soak in his father’s acceptance and love at least for a moment
Thank you please feel free to request.

Chapter 4 - I’ll never fall in love again
Authors note: So I’m finally back and giving you guys 2 chapters since it’s Christmas. This one kind of sucks but chapter 5 is a lot better.
Summary: Y/N wanders around the summer house and thinks about what Sirius had done.
Warnings: None
The rest of the drive to the summer house was a lot more quiet. Sirius didn’t do anything to annoy you which confirmed that he had heard what you said to Dee. But why was he so hurt about it? It wasn’t like he was the one who got stood up.
The car finally stops after what feels like eternity and you immediately run inside so you can find a bedroom before the twins run inside. Once you get inside you are blown away by how big the house is. The floor is covered in beautiful dark wood and all sorts of pictures hang on the walls. You look to your right to see the entertainment room. There is a ms Pac-Man arcade game, pool table, ping pong table and a foosball table. You also see that there are quite a few speakers there. You look up the stairs and figure that must be where the bedrooms are so you go up and start looking for a bedroom. You walk up to the first door and open it. The house is very old and you can hear it by the loud noise the dirt makes when opened. You look inside and are captivated. There is a king sized bed with a duvet covered in satin. There are a ton of shelf’s filled with all kinds of books. The window sill had been turned into a little reading nook. You had most certainly found your room. You put your stuff down and go out the door and walk straight into Sirius and lose your balance. Before you can hit the floor he catches you, pulling you close to him so he won’t lose his balance as well. “Starting to fall for me already Y/N?” He says to you. You push him back while moving away from him, muttering a shut up while you leave. Once you are downstairs you find your sisters and tell them which room is off limits. When they agreed to leave your room alone you decide to check the place out. You went from room to room admiring how big everything was. After a while you decide to go back to your room and read a bit. You decide to take the first book you see. It just so happens to be Persuasion by Jane Eyre. You sit down in your nook and start reading. Time flew by while you read so you hadn’t noticed it was the middle of the night by now. And although you hadn’t noticed how time had passed your stomach was very aware of it. You stand up and carefully open your door, hoping it won’t creak too loud. You walk as quickly and quietly as possible to the kitchen while the old floor complains about the weight being put on it. You enter the kitchen and see Sirius sitting at the table with tears in his eyes. You were going to turn around and leave but your heart was telling you had to stay. “Sirius is everything alright?”

Pac-Man 40th - Segredos do comilão amarelo da Namco
Impacto
Jogos de arcade posteriores incluem Pac-Land, Pac-Mania e Pac-Man Arrangement, um remake do Pac-Man original. Pac-Man World 3 foi lançado em 2005 para comemorar o 25º aniversário do Pac-Man. Pac-Man.
Filme

Seasonal
Happy New Year! I’ve been working on this WIR fic idea for a while and thought it’d be fitting for this holiday. Enjoy!
Felix sat atop Niceland Apartments and looked out over the arcade from his game's screen. Mr. Litwak had draped some colorful strands of lights over a few game cabinets and around the building's front windows, and they cast a cozy glow over his neighbors' homes. The sights and sounds of their celebrations filled the arcade with mirth, and below him his own game's annual party was well underway. Through the open windows he could hear Ralph belting out "Deck the Halls" with Tamora, her men, and Zangief joining in, the Nicelanders and racers barely audible over the festive bellowing. Their New Year's Eve celebration retained some Christmas cheer for the sake of friends who couldn't make it the previous week.
Originally Felix had come up to the roof for some fresh air, but as he sat there alone with his thoughts, he found it far too easy to venture into bittersweet mental territory. His gaze drifted to the one remaining Sugar Rush cabinet and its new steering wheel; its border lights blended seamlessly with the other blinking bulbs around the room.
Its twin has been unplugged quite a while ago now. Most gamers tended to play Sugar Rush by themselves for the glory of setting a new best time without distractions. Litwak decided to sell the second cabinet to a collector who was well-off enough to give him several times what he'd always thought it was worth. It was the last piece she needed for her TobiKomi collection – ever since the company announced its impending closure, she'd explained, the value of their games had started climbing, and she was willing to pay extra then to avoid ridiculous levels of price-gouging later.
As beneficial as it had been to the arcade, all of this did little to reassure Felix. If it wasn't for Ralph getting the steering wheel on time, the remaining cabinet – the racers’ home – would've gone the way of Centipede. Naturally they all knew how precarious their way of life happened to be, but with so many games in the arcade, it wasn't often that such an event would hit so close to home. And right at this time of the year, as well.
"Hey babe, you okay?"
"Oh my land!" He startled a bit before turning around with a hand on his chest. "Ah...'m sorry for leaving the party like that, darlin'. I shouldn't'a had that cheesecake...but I'll be fine."
"I know damn well something's bothering you. C'mon, tell me. You never take leave of a holiday party this long." Tamora's eyes narrowed but her tone was soft, almost as if she was afraid of scaring him away. She took a seat next to him on the ledge.
"I was just...thinkin'. 'Bout the arcade back in the day, and– and all of us."
She wrapped an arm around her little husband. They both wore the sweaters she knitted for them years ago: classic oversized, ugly Christmas sweaters adorned with trees, snowflakes, and gaudy argyle patterns. She'd deliberately made them as ridiculous-looking as possible, but of course he loved them anyway. So much that he wore them for Christmas and New Year's – Why pass up the chance if you took the time to make ‘em? he’d said. Felix leaned into her side and took her free hand in both of his.
"I wish you could've been here back then, Tamora. Everyone was so close-knit because there weren't that many sprites in each game in those days. It was a real special time." He smiled warmly at the memory.
"The fellas over in Berzerk, they had the best laser tag maze you've ever laid eyes on. Whenever we had a day off they'd get everything set up and let folks come in to play." Felix laughed and shook his head. That game afforded him a welcome break from the Nicelanders as they never ventured inside; its disembodied, mechanistic droning of “DESTROY THE HUMANOID KILL THE INTRUDER” terrified them. "That Otto, he was always so happy to have company..."
Tamora's gaze softened; she could sense that her husband was going to take her for a long stroll down memory lane.
"On Saturday nights, Pauline would come down to Tapper's and take song requests. There'd be jazz playin', people dancin'...around the holidays she'd even put up a stage in Game Central Station. She sang carols and we'd all count down to the new year together."
"Imagine Surge Protector getting in on that, huh?" She grinned. "Surprised when I found out that he's the one who decorates the place."
"Oh he loved it! It was really busy every day back then, so he appreciated havin' a break. Some days we had so many visitors that Mr. Litwak set up a TV over by the change machine. That way, all the little siblings who got dragged along and crowded away from the games had something to do when it was rainin' out and they couldn't go mini-golfing. He always said he'd rather have them safe in here than wanderin' around in the streets, even if they weren't customers. Then when they got bigger, they'd come runnin' in, just so excited to finally be able to play with us."
He sighed happily.
"It was just wonderful, gettin' to watch children grow up and knowing that you brighten their day. Some of 'em even told us stories while they were playing."
His smile faltered as he recalled some of what he'd heard from the less fortunate ones – how they'd startle at the slightest noise, the marks on their faces; things that had been lost in the rosy haze of nostalgia until that moment.
"And a few of them...oh, Tammy, I think this arcade might've been the only real home they had. Ralph always did go a bit easier on them, bless his heart."
Tamora squeezed her husband's hand a little tighter. She'd seen a couple of children like that in her six years at Litwak's.
Excited, but quiet and timid. Always looking over their shoulders with their hands in their pockets, clenched around a fistful of precious quarters. They usually entered alone or with a group of similarly-nervous friends. Some days they left the same way. Other days they would be yanked out by the elbow mid-game, heads down, by a seething, red-faced adult who kept up a strained illusion of courtesy with the arcade owner – their facade betrayed only by their visibly-tightening grip on the child's arm – until stepping out the door.
The size of the Hero's Duty console usually resulted in these children ducking behind it to hide if they spotted a parent's car outside while playing. The best the sergeant could do to help was point the FPS bot towards something uninteresting in the hopes that her game wouldn't attract attention.
She glanced down at the worried handyman and he met her gaze with a concerned one of his own. He shuffled closer to her before continuing.
"A few months after we got plugged in, Berzerk was taken away for a couple weeks and came back as Frenzy.” He shuddered at the memory of seeing what looked like a new cabinet rolling through the doors, until he realized what it really was, underneath the blinding orange paint job.
“I thought we’d pick up right where we left off. Everyone looked the same and they were friendly enough but...it wasn't them. We heard later that the joystick kept getting jammed and the game wasn't bringin’ in enough quarters, so Mr. Litwak decided to have his repair people do a conversion kit while they were at it, since he was able to get a discount anyway. They lasted a few more years, but eventually they got swapped for RoadBlasters..." He pointed towards a spot on the floor currently occupied by nothing more than a few singed stains on the patterned carpet.
She let out a low whistle. "Hell of a way to go."
Felix nodded sadly.
"What about Pauline, isn't she still around?" The sergeant pulled up one leg and crossed it under her knee. She knew that woman was lucky enough to hail from a classic game that no arcade owner unplugged nowadays unless there were dire circumstances. Pac-Man and Donkey Kong were among the proverbial canaries in the coal mine, along with Fix-It Felix Jr. – if it ever came to the point where one of them got sold for parts instead of repaired, the arcade was in dire straits.
"Oh she's still here...but a lot of her old hangouts aren't. Her game's a bit lonely, so she went around with Mario and DK and they got to know most everyone who was plugged in back then. Most of those folks' games didn't stay here past 1999 or so – insides burned out, drinks spilled, quarters stopped comin' in. A few didn't make it out in time.”
Tamora winced at the blank expression that briefly crossed his face.
“The arcade really changed quickly in just a couple months. We got a whole bunch of new games to replace the unplugged ones, and the neighborhood that Pauline loved just wasn't the same. She had a tough time with it and didn't feel like singing as much anymore. Not in public, at least."
His voice hitched and he swallowed a lump in his throat.
"This– This time of year just gets me thinkin' sometimes...there's just so much that goes on out there and we can't do a thing about it. I hope those little ones turned out okay. We invited Pauline to the party tonight but she's over havin' a quiet night at Ms. Pac-Man's...I think she's doing a little better now, tryin' to make some new friends. And I hope Mr. Litwak is doin’ all right, too. He's been at this even longer than we have, and...well..."
"I know." She noticed the worry in his features and pulled him closer, planting a kiss on his forehead. The owner wasn't exactly getting any younger, and no sprite in the arcade knew if he had plans to retire or pass down the establishment. He'd never mentioned having any next-of-kin – blood-related or otherwise – either way, and it seemed he planned to run the business he loved for as long as he was physically able.
After that...they had the Wi-Fi router as a last resort if evacuation was inevitable, but from there, nobody really mapped it out any further. Sure, they had plans for who they'd turn to if their own games got unplugged, but the idea of all the games in the arcade suddenly being scattered to the four winds, futures uncertain...it was too much to think about.
"It just feels...wrong for me to even be gettin' so misty over it anyway. I have a home, and a wonderful wife," – he kissed her hand and ran his thumb over her fingers – "and a real swell brother and little Vanny, and so many healthy, happy children who got their home game back, and the last six years have been the best of my life...I'm doing better than ever but I just can't shake this feeling. All those years in the arcade's heyday weren't fun for Ralph. And half that time Turbo was keepin' Vanellope miserable. Q*bert was homeless..."
Felix's voice strained, and his speaking tempo turned frantic. "I-I know that's all in the past, and we worked everything out with Ralph, and the family's all doing great now, but...but what if this is someone's last year? What if I didn't do enough? Even if the motherboard’s good to run another thirty years their screen could still burn out, or gamers could lose interest in them, or someone could get into a fight near the cabinet and damage something, or...or…"
He shook his head, choking back a sob. "I don't know how you do this every day in the military, honeybadger. Keeping it together even if everyone you love could be gone tomorrow and–"
She leaned down and hushed him with a fierce kiss that nearly pinned him to the concrete ledge. He needed to be needed; to worry and help and fix. Tamora knew this well. She'd come down with the occasional virus or two and observed him doting on her in his every spare minute until she recovered. He'd checked in with Ralph each day for the past month in case he was missing Vanellope even more than usual and needed to vent. He made sure to give a hug and word of praise to every single one of the Sugar Rush racers whenever the two of them departed the game after the Random Roster Race to retire for the night. She loved him for it, how much he cared and wanted everyone to be happy – sprite and gamer alike – but at times like these it wore his physical and emotional faculties to the bone.
"Alright, you'd better listen here, shortstack." Pulling away, she held his cherry-red face in her hands, his expression still dazed and eyes wide. He clung to her arms to keep from swaying off the building. Her tone was gentle but firm as she blotted away a tear from his cheek.
"I get it. You know how I feel about regrets and– and being helpless. Hurts like the ugliest slap in the face, the...biggest shot in the chest. It's a self-inflicted wound like nothing else." She inhaled a sharp breath before continuing.
"But take it from me – you do more than enough. You did enough to help the most stubborn ass in this arcade start healing and living outside her backstory." The corner of her mouth twitched into a lopsided smile.
"Tammy Jean–"
"–You showed me that there's always gonna be something to look forward to, even if you have to make it with your own hands. Every year you run yourself into the ground setting up these shindigs. You built a town for the gameless sprites. You've been trying to keep everyone's spirits up whenever anything bad's happened these past six years. You even convinced that miserable carouser to start treating Wreck-It with some respect. But you can't fix everything. Nobody's gonna pull that off. Said it yourself – at the end of the day, what goes on outside here is beyond our control."
She sighed in frustration, and he placed his hands over hers.
"Look, I know I'm not the best at being the optimist in the room. But all we can do is suit up and keep taking our best shot at a moving target. And you can do a lot better at that if you're down in there at the party. If it is someone's last year, make it a good one."
From downstairs, a familiar, sprightly voice suddenly cut through a wave of static.
"SHOULD OLD ACQUAINTANCE BE FORGOT AND NEVER BROUGHT TO MIND! SHOULD…wait, Ralph, how does it go again?"
"It– huh. Good question, kid. I usually just hum that part. Hey! Does anyone here actually know this song?"
Felix hesitated, then nodded, and that familiar, cheesy look of pure adoration spread across his face. "Thank you, love."
Tamora pulled him into a hug, running her fingers through his hair, and the last traces of abrasion dropped out of her voice.
"And take care of yourself first, Felix. Never thought I’d say this, but take a cue from Wreck-It and the prez. Just enjoy tonight. Still got the singing, the countdown and the fireworks comin’ up. And you know I’m looking forward to what we’re gonna do at midnight." She pulled back to look him in the eyes with that unique tenderness that was reserved only for the little handyman. "Everyone's safe and we're not goin’ anywhere."
Felix beamed as he recognized those soothing words that had passed between them on so many nights. It made him start to tear up again, realizing how much his words of comfort meant to his wife that she'd reciprocate with them at a moment like this.
"Can do," he replied with a gentle peck on her lips, eliciting a light blush from the sergeant. She laughed softly and smiled.
"Good. Let's go teach those two how it's done."
Hand-in-hand, the couple returned to the penthouse to rejoin the merriment. For that night's celebration, as long as they were all together, all was calm and bright.

Mortal Kombat – Special Forces (USA) Mortal Kombat 3 (USA) Mortal Kombat 4 (USA) Mortal Kombat Mythologies – Sub-Zero (USA) Mortal Kombat Trilogy (USA) (v1.1) Moto Racer (USA) Moto Racer 2 (USA) Ms. Pac-Man – Maze Madness (USA) MTV Music Generator (USA) NASCAR 98 Collectors Edition (USA) NASCAR Rumble (USA) NBA Live 99 (USA) NBA Live 2000. For Mortal Kombat 3 on the Arcade Games, GameFAQs has 23 cheat codes and secrets.
Don't be fooled, fighting fans. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is not the ultimate fighting game, but it does have some new features and fighters that should temporarily satisfy hungry Mortal Kombateers.
UMK3 supplements the MK3 lineup with Scorpion, Jade, Kitana, Reptile, classic Sub-Zero, Ermac, and Mileena. In addition to these arcade characters, Rain and Noob are selectable, plus there's one hidden fighter.
Sadly, the new fighters are all that make UMK3 a fresh fighting experience. The returning cast is the same as in MK3, with no new moves to learn -- even the combo system is identical! Players will quickly find the gameplay tiresome as they perform the same combos found in MK3. New features like the tournament modes, new Vs. codes, and Brutality finishing moves add only a little life to the redundant gameplay.
If MK3 had never been released, UMK3 would be closer to an ultimate fighting game. Unfortunately, UMK3 is just a slight variation of a game that has been completely played to death.
ProTip: After you defeat your first opponent in the endurance match, you can score a free hit when the second opponent 'jumps in.
Graphics
The backgrounds and fighters are rich in color and detail, but the slightly choppy character animation keeps UMK3 from being a perfect translation.
Control
Not bad, but the SNES's slow processing power, combined with missing frames of character animation, make a slight difference in the timing of combos and juggle moves found in the arcade.

Sound
Only a few screams of terror are missing from the arcade original. The rest of the voices and music are duplicated extremely well.
Fun Factor
UMK3 is best enjoyed with a group of friends. Playing against the cheap computer is about as fun as getting your gums scraped by Kabal's twin blades.

Where to watch March Madness in Philly if you also want good food
There’s no shortage of sports bars in Philly, but if you’re looking to pair your descent into the final week of March Madness with really great food, the options get somewhat narrower. We’re not talking an eight-course dinner — just something that goes beyond the standard wings and and other frozen-fried things.
Where can you enjoy top-tier tavern cuisine while watching your bracket get busted? Start with this list.
2400 S. 19th St.
From the outside it looks like any other corner tavern in deep South Philly, but thanks to a refresh a few years ago, the menu and drink list are as shi-shi as any Fishtown spot. General Tso’s cauliflower, anyone? The prices, on the other hand, still suit the neighborhood. Look for $4 drafts when college basketball’s on the TVs.
Facebook / Taproom on 19th
2301 Fairmount Ave.
With the look of a classic English pub, this Fairmount mainstay might be the city’s best kept secret when it comes to watching sports. Expect an intellectually-focused crowd that’s not afraid to let loose when their team makes a big splash. The menu turns pub fare on its head, with solid versions of everything from empanadas to moules frites to duck sausage sandwiches.
129 N. 22nd St.
The food options at this century-old hideaway tucked behind the Ben Franklin Parkway are small, but stellar. House-roasted beef is the prime option, sliced to order and piled on a soft kaiser roll that just barely holds the juices, and the well-fed crowd is always ready for sports banter. Beer list is also much more modern than the bar’s brass finishings might suggest.
111 S. Independence Mall E.
Opened last fall as a reinvigorated food hall, this historic former commodities exchange across from Independence Mall is now home to several flatscreen TVs. Choose your eats from a dozen independently-owned kiosks — Filipino skewers? Fried chicken? Korean tacos? Ice cream? — and bring it back to your stool to go with TAPS Fill Station pours.
Facebook / TAPS Fill Station
3925 Walnut St.; 100 N. 18th St.
These twin tap houses (one in University City, one on Logan Square) are experts at straddling the line between being serious about food and serious about sports. Each locale has a dozen or more giant flatscreens, but also a huge craft beer lineup that rivals any in the city. Look for better-than-standard wings, nachos and pizzas, but also dishes that’ll liven up the mouth party — think elote dip, charred brussels and blue crab mac ‘n’ cheese.
1231 E. Passyunk Ave.
This arcade hall that shares an intersection with Pat’s and Geno’s is a toss up because the menu changes every night. But depending which roving chef takes over the in-house food cart, the offerings can easily be top of their game. You can also BYO food here — it could be a cheesesteak, but it could be pho or tacos or an entire steak dinner. (Expect a less bro-heavy crowd than at the bar’s Fishtown cousin, too.)
1150 Market St.; 8400 Germantown Ave.
The team behind this local collection of brewpubs, which have dotted the region for two decades, finally landed in Center City last year. (There’s also a Chestnut Hill outpost.) The atmosphere is equal parts family-friendly and beer geek haven, with comfortable seating and everything brewed in house. Just like each pub’s brewmaster takes pride in their work, so does each kitchen’s chef, and you can taste the results.
129 S. 30th St.
This new beer hall beneath the Cira Garage in University City is packed with activities that aren’t gazing at screens — board games, Skee-Ball, shuffelboard, Ms. Pac-Man — but there are plenty of flatscreens, too. The menu isn’t groundbreaking, but it does comes from a chef with a Le Bec-Fin pedigree. Bonus: Since the place just opened, you know he’s still paying careful attention to execution.

Temple of Geek was in Austin Texas this past Saturday attending the 2017 Classic Game Fest. What is Classic Game Fest you ask? It is a convention put on by the gaming store ‘Game Over’ that focuses on gaming. This was their 10th year putting on this show and it shows no signs of stopping. I was accompanied by my friend Jeff of renegadegeek.com
#gallery-0-29 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-29 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-29 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-29 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Danniel Slade of Temple of Geek
Jeff Yukuno of Renegade Geek
YouTube Celebrities
This year, the focus seemed to be guests. Previous years, the show brought in one or two guests to appear during the con and give panels. This year, they had many guests including several that you may have seen on YouTube.
The first YouTube personality that I met was Norman Caruso better known as The Gaming Historian. I spoke to him about how he edits his videos and I tried to convince him to make a future video on Takeshi’s Challenge on Famicom. I showed him my support by picking up his first volume of The Gaming Historian on blu ray that he signed for me.
The Gaming Historian, Norman Caruso
I also met two other names who are known in the YouTube gaming circles. Patrick Contri known as Pat the NES Punk and John Lester or Gamester81. These two guys were really cool dudes. I did not get to interact much as they were signing and speaking with other guests. I did take the opportunity to have a photo taken with each.

Patrick Contri known as Pat the NES Punk
John Lester known as Gamester81
Billy Mitchell and Walter Day
Getting to meet two greats in the gaming world is something that I never thought I would get to do. Walter Day is known for tracking the high scores of players in the 80’s. He once owned an arcade called Twin Galaxies where most of the world records for the most popular arcade games were met. Billy Mitchell is one of those record holders. He used to hold the world high score record in Donkey Kong but is now know for the ‘Perfect Game’ in Pac Man.
#gallery-0-31 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-31 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-31 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-31 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Billy Mitchell – Perfect Game in Pac Man
Walter Day – The Record Keeper
These two guys were some of the most down to earth, coolest guys I met. They actually took the time to chat with each of their fans and actually seemed interested in the conversations. They gave a two hour panel where Walter Day handed out awards to other gamers and he and Billy told stories. These two guys even introduced Ernest Cline to the convention (more on him in a moment). If you ever have a chance to meet these two guys, I totally recommend it. These guys have some amazing stories that need to be heard.
#gallery-0-32 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-32 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-32 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-32 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Right after the panel, I got to meet Lauren Featherstone who just recently beat the high score in the arcade game Tapper. She achieved the high score during a 24 hour attempt at beating the record. Look for a future interview with Ms. Featherstone right here on Templeofgeek.com!
Lauren Featherstone – The record holder for the highest score in Tapper
Ernest Cline
Those of you who read this site or listen to our podcast, knows that I am a huge fan of the book Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. So when I learned that I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Cline at this convention, you better believe that I was all over it.
Ernest Cline first made his presence known during the Walter Day and Billy Mitchell panel. He was presented an award from Walter Day and spoke a little about Billy’s achievements in gaming. During the Q&A, a fan asked him a question to which he replied that audience members cannot be asked questions. When the panel was over, I snuck in and was able to get a quick selfie with him.
We then had to line up for his signing. I opted out of purchasing his books as I had both signed already by him. I decided to just meet him, talk to him about his books and see if I could get a clear photo of him. While we were in line, we met 4 sisters who were as excited to meet him as I was. One of the sisters was sketching a picture of him while we were waiting for him to autograph.
An Ernest Cline Fan sketching him before meeting him
I finally got to Mr. Cline’s table and I was able to meet the guy who wrote one of the coolest scifi books of all time. When I spoke to him I asked about potential sequels. He stated that he is considering sequels for both Ready Player One and Armada. He also revealed that Universal just picked up Armada, so there may be a movie coming down the pipes real soon.
Ernest Cline – Author of Ready Player One and Armada
More Ernest Cline
When Mr. Cline was done signing, he went and spoke to Billy Mitchell and Walter Day about signing his Delorean. Yes, I said Delorean. Ernest Day owns one of the coolest Deloreans I have ever seen. This car is themed from Back to the Future but also has other items from other fandoms. The dashboard has a fricking Power Glove just laying about.
Walter Day and Billy Mitchell both signed the inner hood of Cline’s Delorean. After they signed, I asked Ernest Cline where Steven Spielberg signed his car as I heard a rumor that he signed it. Cline opened his glove box and there was the holy grail of signatures! Before he left, he allowed me to take a picture of him and his vehicle and he departed the con.
#gallery-0-33 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-33 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-33 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-33 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

Cosplay
It would not be a Classic Game Fest without cosplay and there was a lot of it. I took a few pictures of some of the coolest cosplay I seen at the con. This is one of the first time I decided to jump in some of these picture so bear with me on these photos.

Even More
How can I go to Classic Game Fest and not get anything? If you believe that is true, you don’t know me very well. Of course I bought some stuff! I picked up several autographs, an 8BitDo Super NES style controller, and games!! I grabbed a near mint copy of Night Trap for Sega 32X, Mario Clash and Wario Land for Virtual Boy, Megaman 4 for NES, and Shaq Fu for SNES.
Closing Out Classic Game Fest 2017
The was so much to do and see at this year’s Classic Game Fest. I wish I was able to attend both Saturday and Sunday, but I could only do one day. Below are some of the other pictures that I took at the convention. Is this a con you think you would want to attend next year? Hit me up by commenting below and let me know.

By The Fire -- RvB Bingo Wars
Here’s a little piece for the “Freelancer Fun Times” Square. Go Medics!
Word Count: 1752
Warnings: Mentions of alcohol
Description: On a rare instance of shore leave, the Freelancers travel out to an island for the weekend for a little R&R on the beach.
AO3 Here!
Carolina leaned back onto the railing, closing her eyes and breathing in rhythm to the rocking of the ferry. Somewhere, a bird screeched unceremoniously, while the boat’s horns rumbled in anticipation of arrival. With another deep breath of fresh air, Carolina opened her eyes just in time to catch York sneaking up on Wash, armed with an inflated beach ball; the younger Freelancer never saw it coming, and as the ball hit him square in the head, his drink tumbled onto the floor, swirly straw and all.
Laughing at his own work, York only received a pity chuckle from North before the latter bent down to help Wash with the mess. “What? Oh, come on, that was hilarious.”
“Only if you’re twelve,” South shot back from her spot on the upper deck. She folded her arms and leaned over the side. “That was stupid.”
The green form of Delta appeared over York’s shoulder. “I agree with Agent South’s assessment. That practical joke was not as much of a joke as indicated by your past actions, and seems to be less elaborate as well.”
“Thanks for the pick-me-up, D,” York sighed, already replacing his disgrace with his thousand-watt smile.
Thankfully, the island had finally come into sight, a mass of green trees and red roofs and white beaches just begging to be explored. They only had three days before they were due back on the Mother of Invention, but CT planned to cover every hiking trail, York had already prepped for his cave expeditions, and Florida had brought enough steaks to barbecue for the entire island.
All Carolina wanted was to stretch her cyan-colored blanket over the sand, throw on a pair of matching sunglasses, and fall asleep under the warm sun. The only other plan in her itinerary was a trip to the famous ice cream place the Dakota twins swore tasted like frozen marshmallows.
The ferry pulled up to the dock within minutes. Carolina grabbed her bag and tossed it over the shoulder, silently doing a headcount as she watched her teammates disembark. The last to come off were CT and Maine, who had saddled themselves with the boxes of booze that were apparently essential to the trip; Connie was holding one to her chest, while Maine was balancing one on each shoulder. Only once they were safe on the dock, every can of beer intact, did Carolina join them.
“Okay, I know it’s not tourist season and all, but there is really no one here,” Wash marveled as he walked up the street, peering into the windows of little shops that promised quirky objects and souvenirs nobody wanted. “No one” was a stretch – a car drove by every now and then, and some teenage locals hung around an arcade that had obviously seen better years – but it was probably only a minute fraction of the crowds during the full-swing of summer.
“Well, then we’re gonna have the beach almost entirely to ourselves,” North noted. He placed his hands on his hips and breathed in the island air. “That’s why we would always come this time of the year when we were kids.”
“It does have its downsides, though,” South added. “The mini-golf place is always closed. So are most of the restaurants, though the greasy seafood shack is probably open.”
“But it’s a great time of year for waves.” Theta popped up at North’s side, clutching a surf board to his side.
“Ha, we’ll see buddy,” North answered. “I hear Florida is a good surfer.”
Florida beamed. “I can teach you a trick or two when I take Reggie out for a splash,” he said, wrapping an arm around Wyoming. “The more, the merrier.”
Carolina hid her smile behind her hand; the image of Wyoming’s pompous ass trying to surf was going to be a sight.
“So let’s all stop talking, and start doing,” CT insisted, taking off with South in the direction of the boardwalk.
As Carolina and the team followed, York fell in step beside her. “So what are your plans, Lina? Some R&R? Maybe a little swimming? Exploring?”
“York, I’ve told you – beach, napping, maybe some reading. This is gonna be a nice rest for me, especially because my legs are still a little cramped from that last mission because a certain someone needed extra help taking out his fair share of guards.”
He held up his hands in surrender. “Fair, fair. Any way I could convince you to play a round at the arcade?” He motioned towards the run-down machines across the street. “I play a mean game of ski ball,” he added in a cocky tone.
Carolina cracked a smile. “Oh, do you now?”
All traces of smugness disappeared from his features. “Um, no, not at all, actually. I normally end up chucking the balls and hoping for the best. However, I was the Ms. Pac-Man champion when I was a kid. Not the regular Pac-Man – I sucked at that – just Ms. Pac-Man.”
Her grin threatened to turn into a laugh. “Well, you know I can’t turn down a challenge.” He responded by bumping his shoulder into hers, the backs of their hands brushing, burning her skin in awareness. She allowed him to press his hand into hers, knuckle to knuckle, though she wasn’t expecting his fingers to wrap around her own in what was probably the most awkward hand-holding position ever. Of all time.
The boardwalk’s path brought them to a steep set of wooden stairs leading to the beach. She released York’s hand in favor of the railing, staring out over the ocean as she descended the steps. Glittering under the afternoon sun, and bluer than… She glanced back at York, who smiled at her before she turned her attention forwards. Those waves – dark and roaring. Theta was going to be thrilled by the surfing potential.
At the bottom of the hill, where grass met sand, lay a row of green huts that would be home for the weekend. North and South journeyed to the hut where the owner lived before returning with a handful of keys. “North and York…Maine and Wash…Me and CT…Florida and Wyoming…and Carolina, you lucky bitch,” South teased as she handed Carolina a single brass key.
“Excuse you, South, but one of us had to be on their own, so I just took one for the team,” she responded with a smirk.
“And sharing a room with me isn’t that bad,” CT said, playfully punching her girlfriend in the arm. “You’re the one who snores.” Carolina watched with content as they bickered their way to their hut, laughing as they wrapped their arms around one another’s shoulders.
Her own hut was situated between Maine and Wash’s, and Florida and Wyoming’s. She stuck the key in the lock and turned, pushing with her shoulder as the door groaned, scraping on the paint-worn floor. The hut was tinier than it looked on the outside, barely containing two cots and a nightstand. She reckoned the elevator on the MOI was bigger, but it would do for the next three days. Dumping her bag on the spare bed, she fished out her cyan-colored towel and black one-piece bathing suit that she changed into once the curtains were closed.
She cautiously stepped out of the hut and back into the sunlight, glad for the protection of her sunglasses as the sun began its descent onto the horizon. Her bare feet enjoyed the feel of the warm sand, free from the sharpness of shells and broken glass. She padded over to where Wash and Maine were assembling rocks and driftwood. “Getting a fire going?”
Maine grunted in affirmation, while Wash added, “Can’t have a beach party without a fire, right?”
“If you say so,” she breathed. She laid out her towel and dropped her book on top, but temporarily abandoned both as she helped Maine arrange the rocks in a circle. Wash then began to prop his sticks in a tee-pee fashion.
“I haven’t done this since I was a kid,” he murmured. “My dad showed me a dozen times, but I guess it didn’t stick.” He finally got it right, creating a strong foundation from the driftwood.
“Need a light?” Carolina looked up to see York standing over them, a more-than-familiar silver lighter in his hand. She stared at it as it lay in his open palm, rereading the word “Errera” emblazoned on the side over and over until she remembered the purpose and took it.
“Thanks.” She flipped the lid and flicked the wheel until a flame sprang up. She offered the fire to the grass Maine had tucked under the tower of driftwood. The flames caught, growing as Wash blew into their core. It unfolded before their eyes, desperately engulfing the wood.
Carolina offered York his lighter back, but he placed his hand over hers, closing her fingers over the still-warm metal. “Keep it. It…you need it more than me. You can give it back to me later.” He left her with her book as he, Wash, and Maine joined North, South, and CT in a game of tackle-football in the water. She tried to focus on her book, diverting her attention only to take a sip from her beer, but she couldn’t help but laugh as CT launched herself into the air and landed on North, causing both to tumble into the waves.
When the sun dipped below the water, the team steered themselves back. The last to come in were Florida and Wyoming, shivering in their wetsuits, but satisfied with Wyoming’s first surfing adventure. Carolina smiled to herself as she noticed Theta hovering next to Gamma; the little guy deserved a little wave action.
York approached her wrapped in a New York Yankees towel. He presented her another beer as an offering, which she accepted and motioned for him to sit beside her. One by one, the rest gathered to huddle around the fire. Wash retrieved a bag of marshmallows from his bag, and handed them out once Connie hunted down some sticks. South and North passed the time by attempting to out-do one another in embarrassing stories about the other, until there came a time when they were obviously just making things up in a competition of dramatic storytelling.
The hours ticked by, but as long as the fire remained strong, Florida kept the mojitos coming, and York accompanied Wyoming’s guitar with his off-key singing, no Freelancer could feel the tug of sleep.
