Weird thing none of you know about me: from about 2015(?) until about 2019 or so, I had a very specific and weird obsession: Lisa Frank's social media presence (and, to a lesser degree, Lisa Frank's collaboration deals clearly made in an attempt at making a comeback).

Now, I will go ahead and correct a commonly held misconception amongst the people who followed me on Facebook at the time: I was not obsessed with Lisa Frank the person (as mysterious as she attempts to be, I think I have her mostly figured out), Lisa Frank the manufacturer of my favorite childhood school supplies, or even Lisa Frank the company as it stands today (though this Jezebel article, Inside the Rainbow Gulag: The Technicolor Rise and Fall of Lisa Frank, is wild and I think everyone should read it; it may not hold true today since they've had so much change and turnover, but it's still fascinating). My obsession was primarily focused on Lisa Frank's social media presence. And that's because Lisa Frank's social media presence was batshit insane.

Keep in mind, when I first started following them on social media, they were not banking on Millennial nostalgia. They were still primarily selling school supplies. The adult coloring book (not adult like smutty; adult like...those therapy coloring books that were so popular ten years ago?) sold by way of an exclusivity agreement with Dollar General hadn't been announced yet, nor had workout gear or the SpongeBob collab (sold only at HotTopic). As far as anyone knew, Lisa Frank was still that rainbow school supply company whose target audience is nine-year-old girls.

Which is why all of the housemade "memes" were absolutely bonkers.

This is peak Middle-Aged Mom Humor, so why is it being presented to me by the company making pencils and folders for elementary schoolers?

Glad to know we are encouraging fourth graders to day drink.

This one isn't actually aimed at any particular age group; I just find it funny that captains of pirate ships are inherently pirates, so I don't know what this is supposed to mean.

I don't know who was behind these posts, but considering how small the company was at that point, I always suspected that Lisa herself was recycling old artwork with the help of an intern or something and creating the social media posts...because it just sort of seemed like that's what was happening? I have no proof of this; it was just a vibe I got.

But, during that period of time, even though the posts were inscrutable and sometime just straight-up Minion Humor, they were at least interesting.

Well, I mean, sometimes they were interesting because they were like acid to the eyes.

Okay, and sometimes they were interesting but also sported questionable messaging about one's relationship with food and exercise.

Anyway, I digress. In 2019, Lisa's son Forrest Green (yes, her sons are named Hunter and Forrest Green) took over the social media presence and it became...very palatable for the masses, I suppose. It was a lot of photo edits of old boy band pictures with Lisa Frank designs superimposed on tshirts -- it was very nostalgia-driven and very much directed at Millennials and thus I lost interest, because if there's anything I hate, it's being the target demographic for a sales pitch.

Anyway, my point is that for several years in a row, Lisa Frank would post the same holiday-themed images, so I got used to seeing a certain Thanksgiving design that is, and I cannot prepare you enough, one of the most chaotic and hideous things you'll ever lay your eyes on. But it was tradition. They posted it like three years in a row, and then as soon as Forrest took over, this design was never posted again. And all I have to say on this Thanksgiving week of 2023 is: bring back the turkey, you cowards.

In May of 2019 I weighed in at 72lbs, standing 5ft1, at the age of 22. I was at my thinnest; and either no one knew, or no one cared enough to notice; and the only person who had anything to say about my appearance back then had remarked at the flatness of my stomach in comparison to someone else's -directly after having sex with me while putting their pants back on- pointing out how it wasn't as toned or as flat as theirs was at the time... We went to get burritos a few moments later. When we got to the window all I ordered was a soda, and as they grabbed their food and handed me my drink they mumbled to me the simple question of why I wasn't hungry and I puked out the words "I'm anorexic" for the first time in my entire life to another living soul. Their response to my statement in the now dead silent car was a whisper across the dashboard. "So does that mean I can't eat in front of you right now?" It was almost as if they were offended by my confession. As if I had spoken another language that they didn't understand. Three months and another eight pounds later, I swallowed two entire bottles of my prescription medication with a bottle of wine and woke up in the hospital after having my stomach pumped, my mom had a case of "mother's intuition" and found me wandering around the parking lot of my apartment complex in my underwear and a tshirt with vomit all over myself mumbling to to the sky. I was admitted to the psych ward for the next two weeks. I wanted the help so badly that they discharged me due to "good behavior" even though I begged them to let me stay... Sometimes, people don't fucking care no matter how obvious you make it that something is desperately wrong. I see posts on here under these tags saying how you can't wait for someone to notice- but I propose the question what if nobody does? What will you do then? How far will you go? I've had body dysmorphia since the age of seven and as a result I started starving myself. It was a way to gain a sense of self-control over myself, and more importantly, over my life. I grew up in a home that was drowning me in chaos. It is now September of 2023 and I weigh in at 113.7lbs, standing 5ft3, at the age of 26. The body dysmorphia has not gone away, and I still look at thinspo and long for the days when I was this thin, even if I know better now. I have started to find some self-control now that I am in an intensive DBT therapy program and am in school for my BS in Psychology. This is something you learn to live with, it is not something you kill yourself over having to go through. There is hope. Eventually you will be okay. You've just gotta ask for some fucking help.

Black Lives Matter

Hi, nice to meet you!

My name is Ayumi Konno, and I am the founder of Bibelot, an online shop selling apparel, picture books and miscellaneous goods. I am also the mother of a 10 month old baby.

After hearing about the death of Mr. George Floyd, I started to learn more about racial discrimination against black people in the United States and began to wonder what I personally could do to fight against racism.  I decided to collaborate with artists to create T-shirts that will spark discussions and bring awareness to this issue. 

History and current status of discrimination against black people in America

In America, black people have suffered discrimination for a very long time, and this racist oppression continues today. 

Forced into slavery in the 17th century in America, black people continued to experience racism even after slavery was abolished in 1865. 

After that, Jim Crow laws did not recognize black people as having the same rights as white people, and separated black people from white people in public institutions (schools, buses, toilets, etc.).

In America’s history, there are many instances of black people being murdered. As a new parent, learning about the following injustice of the murder of Mary Turner in particular left an impact on me. 

The murder of Mary Turner, who lived in Georgia in 1918.

On May 18, 1918, a man named Hayes Turner was murdered by a mob of white people after a white landowner was killed. 

His wife Mary Turner denounced the mob who killed her husband and in response was murdered brutally by the mob. Despite being 8 months pregnant, she was lynched, her body strung up on a tree, set on fire, and her unborn child murdered. 

In 1865, Article 13 of the US Constitution was passed, abolishing slavery. However, violent racism persisted and mob lynchings and burning of black people’s houses  by the KKK (white supremacist organization) was rampant.

The Jim Crow laws that enforced racial segregation continued until the Civil Rights Law was enacted 56 years ago.

Discrimination is not a thing of the past, it continues today.

Today, many black people in America live with the fear of being arrested for no reason and beaten by the police, even in the midst of their daily activities whether it’s going out to take a walk, or even sleeping at home. 

Article 13 of the Constitution abolishes slavery, but does not apply to those sentenced to prison.

Even innocent people or those who have been arrested for misdemeanors and who cannot afford bail are sentenced to work jobs receiving hourly wage of the equivalent of 15 to 150 yen, not eligible for social security benefits. 

Percentage of population living in poverty (2018): 8.1% white, 20.8% black

Wealth disparity (2017): Median wealth of white households is 10 times that of black households

According to the statistical results from 2013 to 2019, although 76.3% of the American population is white and 13.4% is black, black people are three times more likely than white people to be killed by police. Of those killed by police, black people were 1.3 times more likely to be unarmed than white people.

And systematic racism afflicts black people today.

Discrimination in Japan

Many people may think that this has nothing to do with Japan and that racism against black people does not even exist in Japan. 

However, it has become clear that across generations in Japan, stereotypes and prejudices against black people exist. 

It’s theorized that in the wake of the second world war, one of the ways that Japan sought to bolster its reputation amongst Western countries was adopting America’s racist attitudes towards black people. In essence, they joined white America in viewing black people as the common enemy. 

To this day, that affects how black people are portrayed in Japanese media, which all too often is via racist stereotypes and caricatures. 

Why I decided to start this project

The murder of Mr. George Floyd on May 25th by a white police officer was the incident that moved me to do something. 

After learning about George Floyd’s murder,  I contacted a black friend, watched the video of the incident and read to try to understand what had happened and why. 

Ashamed that I did not know about the suffering so many people experience at the hands of systematic racism today, I thought that I could do something and started planning this project.

If I want to help my black friend, I understood that I have to be part of systemic change. 

I felt that systemic change requires the power of many, not just of a minority, not just of those in the United States,  but many people all over the world, including Japan.

What I want to achieve with this project

For racism to be abolished and for our world to be one where no child or adult experiences discrimination or discriminates against anyone in any country. 

With that in mind, I want to start by understanding and learning, and talking with others more. 

So, I made a T-shirt with two artists to help start the conversation.

My hope is that through this project, through these Tshirts and artworks, people can discuss, share and learn.

I am so encouraged. Friends around the world are rising up. My friend Ayumi said when she started learning about systemic racism she was ashamed she didn’t know before. But by googling, watching movies, reading books, talking to friends, she is an example that we can always learn. It is never too late to learn. I am grateful, too, that she has so eagerly joined in doing the work, and sharing what she’s learning with others in her community esp those who are mostly Japanese-speaking.We shall over come!

After George Floyd's murder, I contacted my black friends, and was introduced to Kenzo, a black artist living in Ogasawara. A pointillist artist, Kenzo’s artwork is amazingly painstaking. 

Only the stippled area is printed on the silk screen. Both men's and women's Tshirts will be printed on organic cotton Tshirts called Earth Positive, which are produced using only renewable energy. The material is very soft to the touch and comfortable to wear.

From KENZO This picture holds a lot of meaning for. I have never thought so much about a single drawing. It stirs up a lot of emotions in me. 

The importance of black life does not mean that black life is more important than anyone. A symbol of unity, and solidarity. It’s about standing up for someone who is suffering. The person who cried "I CANT BREATHE". A person who is treated like an animal rather than a human.

This is not just an American problem. It affects the whole world.

Can you imagine a world in which you are afraid of the people who are supposed to support and protect you?

Even when they are victims and should be the ones receiving protection, they must fear their own lives from those who are supposed to protect them. 

This is the world in which we, people of color, have to live.

But there is hope. People all over the world are standing up with us. With Black Lives Matter they are standing up for the right thing!

This drawing is meant to shed light on those who fought for us and keep fighting with us! It has a little history and represents what I think #blacklivesmatter represents.

With this, I hope you share it with your friends and help them get out of it. It takes a total of 139 hours to complete and is made entirely of dots. With each dot I thought of all the people of color who are suffering from oppression.

Nao's paintings depict brown-skinned women. For Nao, brown is the color of nature and is very beautiful.

After 10 years as a graphic designer and illustrator in Tokyo, she moved to Kumejima, Okinawa, and expresses the inspiration that she received from the natural scenery and life of the island through silkscreen.

She shares, “Currently, I am engaged in daily production activities in Yanbaru, where the rich nature of the main island of Okinawa remains.”

“While I have lived so far, I have witnessed scenes of discrimination, of varying severity, in various places.

My world started to move little by little as a result of these incidents. 

I think the world will definitely change if each one of us can pay attention to what is happening. 

And I want to leave a peaceful and bright future without discrimination for future children! With these feelings, I resonated with the aim of the project and so I wanted to participate.”

Finally

I grew up in Japan and still live in Japan. I just quit the company and started a shop, so I can't afford it. But I thought there was something I could do for this problem. Nowadays, there are many people who do not have black friends around them, so many of them may not be able to catch themselves.

I think this is a story that is relevant to you when you think about the future, not the fire on the opposite bank.

During the internationalization, my child may marry a black man and his grandson may have dark skin.

I want my children and grandchildren to be rewarded for their efforts to avoid discrimination when they go abroad.

There are many social problems, but let's start from what we can do.

And many black people are still being treated badly and unable to get out of a difficult environment.

Analyze how you feel, investigate, talk to people, share on SNS, make donations, buy.

I think there is some courage in what you think of. I want you to be brave and take a step forward.

My Review: Okay, first of all, I think my year-long reading slump has officially ended because I don’t think I have ever read a 400-page book this quickly in my life, especially not during the academic year. Second of all, I would honestly die for Casey McQuiston and her books. I literally do not have a SINGLE negative thing to say about this book, which is honestly rare since I usually have at least one, even for five-star books. Casey McQuiston truly wrote a perfect book, and I need her to teach me her ways because if I could write even half this well, I would be overjoyed. Anyway, let’s get into specifics - here are all of the things I loved about Red, White & Royal Blue!!

First of all, Alex is a dork and I absolutely love him. I love all of the characters, and I love that every one of them feels so freaking real, like people I would find walking around my own college campus, except, yaknow, with the added factor of being members of the First Family or being a literal prince. I love that every single one of the relationships (romantic, familial, platonic, or otherwise) in this book felt unique and genuine, and I loved when the characters interacted with each other because they more often than not made me laugh. These characters are written and developed so well that I can so clearly envision their lives beyond the pages and honestly that’s how you know you’ve done your characters justice.

Second of all, the level of representation in this book is absolutely phenomenal, and I loved that it was present enough to be an essential part of the story and the characters, but not enough to be the characters’ only defining factors.

Third of all, where can I find this alternate universe where Ellen Claremont is president instead of certain other people because I would like to be there. NOW. I am so happy that I read this before the 2020 election because instead of panicking about that, I can pretend I’m in this universe instead when election season really kicks off later this year. Seriously, I would love to see That State go blue in 2020 in real life. Oh my goodness. Also, stay tuned for a photo of me in a “History, huh?” tshirt on my Instagram (@melanieraush) on November 3rd. I usually vote by mail because college but I will somehow find a way to be home on Election Day just so I can vote in person in my first presidential election with that shirt on. Oh, also, I love that I’m reading this book right before reading Yes No, Maybe So - ’tis the season for election-themed romance, I guess.

Speaking of romance, I am so glad I read this over Valentine’s Day because the romance in this book is truly EVERYTHING and there were multiple times when I was reading this book in public and could not stop grinning like an idiot. Now that I think about it, I would love to have seen June and Nora date each other but honestly considering how perfect this book was, that’s too much to ask. Anyway. ALEX AND HENRY ARE PERFECT.

I seriously loved every single second of reading this book and it physically pained me to have to put it down to do other things, like, yaknow, to sleep, go to class, and do homework. I highly highly highly recommend this book to literally everyone and I will scream about it forever. WHY DO I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL 2021 FOR A NEW CASEY MCQUISTON BOOK?????

you stared at the ceiling peacefully, taking this time to breathe in what you referred to as, “spring break air”. for one week, you would be able to enjoy yourself without the worry of projects, homework, and focusing in general. today was the day your scholastic brain officially shut down and took a nap.

“y/n!” a voice yelled through your door, scaring you off your bed with a booming thump.

“ow...” you whispered to yourself, rubbing your forehead gently, “yes mom?”

she opened the door, revealing a pained you on the floor. “what are you doing? we leave in five. you better have all of your things packed!”

“some of us have sensitive ears at 5am and get scared when people randomly yell at them, mother.” you said politely.

“yelling gets your point across easier.”

you took a deep breath. “you’re completely right. i’ll be down in four.” when she walked out of your room, you couldn’t help but roll your eyes.

“i felt that!” she yelled from the hallway.

you mocked his scared voice while tickling him, causing the both of you to erupt in loud laughter. “oh, don’t worry skillet. I’ll always protect you.” you cooed as you put an arm around him.

“wow. true brother and sister bonding.” your fathers voice spoke as you two felt a flash jumping across your cheeks. of course he already had the camera on deck snapping photos before the vacation even started. “it’s so beautiful.”

“yeah yeah dad. take my things?” you asked innocently.

“so because I’m a man I’m obligated to take your things? it’s 2019, y/n.”

“can we go?” you asked.

“later, baby.” your mom answered. “right now we need to get to your aunt rachel’s and put our bags away. plus, aren’t you eager to see jasmine and roxy? it’s been three years hasn’t it?”

ah, jasmine and roxy. twin legends, and the only cousins you had that were your age. you did miss them a lot as you couldn’t help but become distant over these last couple of years.

“of course, mom. but food always comes first you know this.”

“shame you!” your family all said in unison.

it didn’t take that much longer to arrive at your aunts house. you had only been here one other time when you were really little, but nothing much had changed. it was still the cute little beach house you remembered.

everyone was already outside waiting on you guys’ arrival. you wouldn’t deny that it brought a warm feeling to your chest.

“rach!” your mother screamed as she jumped out of the car, hugging her sister tightly.

“oh my! i’ve missed you so much.” your aunt whispered, tears threating to fall from her eyes.

you and your cousins held eye contact for about a millisecond before erupting in screams loud enough to open a coffin.

“y/n! oh my goodness look at you!” jasmine definitely hadn’t changed much face wise, only looking a bit older.

“me? look at you guys! you have boobs now!” you joked, recieving a hit from roxy. her and jasmine may have been twins, but it was clear that she wanted zero confusion. she spotted a blonde look, complimented with a nose ring.

“yeah? and your head got bigger.” she joked back. the three of you engulfed in a hug, jumping around in a circle. “we have to show you our room. compete makeover from when we were fifteen.” roxy squealed, grabbing your hand and running inside.

“we made your favorite!” aunt rachel said, taking her sisters hand in attempt to drag her inside as well.

“woah woah woah.” your dad interrupted, hands in the air, “you’re not gonna help us with the luggage?”

“we have gender roles here.” aunt rachel said, laughing evily before going inside.

“isn’t she just lovely?” her husband, cody, said causing the two of them to burst into laughter as well.

“is this the life of a man?” your brother said sadly, dragging your suitcase through the driveway.

when you walked into your cousins bedroom, you expected to see the typical pinterest aesthetic. you know, the lights hanging from each corner, a random quote sticker plastered on the wall, but no. instead there was one man and all his different photo shoots spread evenly across the room

“doesn’t our husband look great?” jasmine questioned with nothing but love beaming from her eyes.

“wow.” you said, taking a step to take it all in, “you guys really like park jimin i see.”

“girl, you don’t?” roxy questioned in a offended tone.

they both gasped in horror. “what!”

“can’t name one song.” you admitted, amused by their offense.

“we can’t be related,” jasmine began pacing around the large white room.

you were absolutely terrified in this moment.

“how are we going to get there? we both just got our license so you know mom and dad won’t let us drive that far.” jasmine pouted. it took them about two seconds to turn sadistic eyes towards you.

“no,” you said, backing into the corner, “absolutely not. this obsession is scary.”

“please y/n! you can drive, and our mom will trust you to take the car.” jasmine begged.

“and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. it’s fate. we just want to peek at him” roxy said on her knees now.

you took a deep breath, rubbing your temple as you were in deep thought. “...okay okay. just a peek though. we’re not gonna be waiting all night just for him not to show up.”

the three of you pulled up to the echo, you happily sporting your same outfit, while jasmine and roxy decided on a full face of makeup featuring a lot of boob. not that it was anything wrong with makeup and boobs. boobs were always great and if you were in their situation you would’ve found your own way to make your assets show.

“five minutes.” you said, instructing them with your fingers. “and you have to buy me frozen yogurt after.”

“that wasn’t apart of the deal.” roxy complained.

“i can pull off?” you threatened.

“frozen yogurt it is.” they said with fake smiles plastered on their faces before getting out of the car.

when they left the car, you decided a little music wouldn’t hurt. you didn’t know California’s radio stations, but you had time to channel surf, right? you found a lot of country stations, and rock as well, but you weren’t in the mood for that. the pop station would have to do for now. you didn’t know what was playing, but you liked it. it was a smooth kind of rnb that was almost adorable? the songs kept coming and coming, but irritation began to cloud your sense of hearing.

it’s been fifteen minutes, you thought to yourself, getting annoyed that you agreed to this. you could be at home doing something way more proactive, like laying on the couch and breathing in spring break air as you had planned from the start.

maybe you should’ve stayed in the car, but you couldn’t stay put. if they wanted to be embarrassed getting dragged out of the club by you, you could make that happen for them. just as you were about to pull the handle to open the door, it swung open, hitting you right in the head. you fell straight to the ground.

“oh shit!” a voice whispered. he quickly began to help you up before holding you in his arms to make sure he didn’t kill you. “are you okay?”

please take a moment to learn about what’s happening in Hong Kong since June til now.

We have been protesting every Sunday, and many saturdays and weekdays, on the streets since 9th June.

First and foremost, we are protesting against extradition bill. which will take away the wall that protect Hong Kong people (or any visitors in HK) against Chinese communism.

Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region that runs a different legislative, judiciary and executive system from China, bc we were colonized by British before 1997. After handover, “one country two systems” is run in HK, as agreed by UK. we have basic law, that protects our freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and demonstration, freedom of press. We shd be going towards the direction of DEMOCRACY and true universal suffrage.

This bill will take away every advantageous difference of Hong Kong from China. our freedom and human rights. China can arrest us with any claim of a person in hk breaking china’s law (which we do not follow).

9th June: we march with 1million people. CE did not withdraw the bill nor address people’s demand.

11-12th June: we surround Legislative Council to stop them from passing the bill that day. Police abuse their force to attack/ evavuate peaceful protestors, and define that day as riot.

Police beat people who did not attack or use violence. Police used lots of tear gas (weapon to evacuate a mass) while not giving them space or route to get away. Police beat reporters, a serious suppress to freedom of press.

16th June: 2million people march on the street. asking for 5 things:

1. Complete withdrawal of the extradition bill

2. Resignation of Beijing-backed Chief Executive Carrie Lam

3. Release of arrested protesters

4. Investigation into alleged police brutality against protesters

5. Retraction of characterisation of protests as riots

1st July: (handover anniversary day) on top of 550thousand people doing peaceful protest, radical side of protestors break into legislative council as a form of step-up protest, after government refused to listen to 2million people’s protest to withdraw extradition bill. They expressed messages such as:

“There’s no rioters, only a tyrannical regime”

“It’s You (the government) who taught us that peaceful protest is useless”

and repeat the similar 5 demands and also for universal suffrage.

Since then, every Sunday, hundreds of thousands of hong kong people march on the streets. there are also people of particular identity protest, such as mothers of hong kong, and elderlies, to protest against violence against young ppl and students at the front line. there had been judiciary group/ lawyer group. there had been social workers group.

Police:

Police used evil and illegal tactics,

(such as surrounding protestors, not giving them route to leave, and then attack them with unreasonable force for “illegal assembly” after or before a legal march just ended.

such as, not showing their warrant card or police number to identify themselves as police, so any actions against their guidelines, any excessive violence, any law breaking acts can be done by the police without consequences.

such as beating even the reporters

such as aiming bean bag bullets at protestors’ head and eyes instead of limps)

and excessive violence, and unreasonable arrest,

1. to protect the govt who dun listen to the people and betray us to please Chinese Communism and try to wait for us to get tired and let the protest die down without addressing anything

2. to spread white fear so as to suppress hongkongers’ freedom of speech and assembly

3. to suppress freedom of press

We urge the government to set up independent investigation into police’s use of violence(not only the current complaint system that is only going to let police investigate the police themselves. we do not trust the police nor the government anymore)

Government/ Chief Executive’s response:

The Chief Executive (CE) ’s response so far has always been playing words, such as using “indefinitely suspending the bill”, and “the bill is dead”. while never using the formal and legal term and action to WITHDRAW the bill.

She apologized for causing social rift, but did not address protestors demands at all. only pushed police and social workers to the frontline.

the government do not address any police’s abuse of power. excessive force. illegal actions. but only post statements to seriously condemn protestors’ actions. Protestors would not be forced to step up their actions if CE has addressed our demands.

Four people had committed suicide for this cause already.

And many people felt helpless and depressed over these continuous and seemingly helpless fight while the government ignore any demand and push us towards Chinese communism. Our CE don’t give a fuck about four actual hongkongers’ lives. but got so butthurt when legislative council’s glass doors got broken, or when policeman got hurt (finger got biten off due to trying to poke a protestor’s eyeball out).

This is my recap just off my mind as of now. not particularly good at these kind of political awareness post as some other hongkongers. but just to name a few dreadful, futureless, unjust things against human rights that is happening in hong kong right now.

today. 21st July. 430 thousand people march on the streets again. we march again...

not sure when the govt will care or listen... seems like over these month the govt got more numb about the large numbers when march occur every sunday, but this scale of protest that lasted so long had never happen in hong kong before. 2million out of 7million hong kong ppl march onto the street had also never happened before. we hongkongers’ persistence are not dead yet. and we do not forget the injustice, our rights, our demands. we do not abandon the people who stand at the front line, risk their lives and future, or people who already sacrificed their lives over this. Hongkongers stand tgt.

February 12, 2019 Part I

Boss got home around midnight. So he’ll be in today. That is both good and bad. It’s eh b/c he’s back, but very good that I don’t have to reschedule everything for today. In between around 6pm last night and 6 am this morning, the mofo had the nerve to add a couple meetings to his calendar AND offer up a shit ton of time next week for a meeting, most of which were meetings that were hard to schedule. It is an interesting request though. Either he got offered a job that would require him to leave the university, or he didn’t get it and he wants help getting to that next step. The thing for me is, he’s kind of in the same boat as me. At our levels, it’s really hard to make it up to the next step, simply because there are so many fewer jobs as you go higher. Unless they create a new job, I don’t see how they can match it if he did get the offer. Unless there’s a few people retiring in the next couple years....Although, now that I think about it, there were a couple of jobs here that, while not exactly his expertise, would have moved him up. I wonder if he applied or not. As someone who works for him, and understands the drive, I want him to succeed. As someone who works for him, he’s not a good manager or leader, so I only want him to move up into a position where he wouldn’t make things worse, but could contribute in his way to make things thrive. Bureaucracies are good for that. Wow, my spelling is really terrible lately. I couldn’t even spell bureaucracy without looking it up online. However, along the way, I did invent the word ‘brocracy.’ It makes sense as a word.

Didn’t sleep well last night. Didn’t do my laundry last night. Did it this morning, but somehow everyone was using the machines this morning, so it’s a late to work day. When the boss flew in at midnight. You know he’s gonna think some kind of way.

I made my first real apartment building friend in the laundry room today. We started talking bc I was wearing a Kentucky tshirt. He went to UK. And he knew where my tiny first college was. And he’s moving in April. That’s my life lol. Three of us were talking and it was lovely. We talked about racism. We  talked about the grammys, we talked about rachel doozer. I’m going to watch a doc they have on net flicks about her and we shall then discuss lol. The other person we were chatting with is currently working on her masters kind of sort of  in the field my dept is in. What a small world.

Highlight of my day so far: finding out a meeting I worked on was being held in a bad location for my people, and getting them to agree to move it for me. As long as I do all the work.

The girl in fresh off the boat who asked Evan if he liked her, was so freaking brave! I got anxious watching her lol.

I was walking in between work offices today, and I had some really good thoughts. Which I forgot. This is why I don’t make progress on things. This, and about a billion other reasons. But one thing I do remember is that I started thinking that my career doesn’t necessarily need to be over and dead-end. I could commit to growing and becoming an expert in something. I don’t know. It was a thought. And hell, maybe I can try to get my phd after I retire! I know, I know. It was just an idle thought b/c I’m surrounded by academia. Oh yes, another thing I was thinking was maybe I should reconsider not trying to stay here. lol. I had to remind myself that - no!

I went a decent part of the day without headphones in. At one point, I was talking to myself when my boss walked by and he thought I was talking to him. It occurs to me that I speak to myself more when I don’t have music or tv going on. What’s up with that?

For a minute during work I was energized and excited to get home and do stuff. Got home and I’m exhausted. And this is why I never get anywhere with anything.

There are about a bazillion points where I see I went wrong. Normally, I say I wouldn’t go back in time to change anything if I didn’t maintain my knowledge of all this. Today I’m not feeling it. I’d go back in a heartbeat and just cross my fingers that I’d make different choices.

A congressperson made a comment about a jewish org funding pro-isreal stuff in the government. I don’t know anything about that particular organization, but it says something that both parties quickly disavowed her remarks. Other than the whole batshit crazy people trying to foment wwiii so they can start armageddon, I don’t understand what the other reasons are that politicians are so afraid to say anything negative about the country. Why they’re so beholden and afraid. Besides the fact that people are quick to consider anyone who’s anti-israel to be an antisemite. As a pro-jew, antiisrael person I don’t get it. But then again, I’m not old enough to be close to the founding and all the conflict back then. I just see it as a country/government doing whatever it’s doing, in the same way other countries are primarily catholic or primarily protestant or primarily muslim, without those countries’ actions reflecting on the religion. Don’t get me wrong, I know very well that many people/governments pervert religion for their own ends. But I don’t see that as the religions themselves, just yucky people.

Random thought popped into my head. A while ago, I tried to start watching last man standing. I couldn’t understand how it could be a conservative show when the mother (an actress I’ve been fond of for years) was a working woman and an engineer. Just now it occurred to me that I don’t understand how I could have been perplexed? Because I tried watching it AFTER I spent a couple of years working with sexist, racist, homophobic, etc, chemists. Wow. Sometimes I am real slow.
