The Lost Child [Written work]

The note had arrived early, far before the Keeper had gotten up; Poe grumbled as she stretched and flopped out onto the rug. Getting to her feet, Poe pulled the oversized shirt over her nude form, the same shirt that had been previously discarded on the floor when she went to bed.

She made her way upstairs after she got the water kettle started for a cup of tea, looking out the window to study the afternoon sky. The redhead stepped out to enjoy the gentle sun that filtered through the trees when she noticed the note pinned to her door. She recognized the handwriting immediately, concern on her features as she rushed back inside, closing the door.

Flipping the envelope over, Poe muttered to herself, “Now why would Ahma be sending word this way?”

It wasn’t time for Poe to meet with Ahma for the offering they completed during every full moon. Flipping the note open, Poe scanned the parchment…

Poe -

I apologize for contacting you in this manner, it seemed best to have the information in a format you could go back and review. I have come across some information about your family members. While I understand the matter of your tribe, I feel you would want to know about your sister’s son.

Poe lifted her head, stunned. She knew little about Mota’s child, they were already at odds by the time Mota had been told to produce offspring for the tribe by the Matron. After the destruction of the village, Poe did not know where the child ended up. Her green hues returned to the letter…

The child had been placed with a small tribe of Seekers, your sister paying them to care for him. It was recently reported the village was discovered pillaged and vacant. No bodies have been found but it is unknown if the child is safe. I suspect your minimal business in Ul’dah has been the reason you have not heard this information yourself. As a fellow tribal mender, I understand the need for family safety. I have departed for Ul’dah to meet with a colleague who may have more information from Southern Thanalan. Please meet me in three days at the trading post just outside of Ul’dah and I will inform you of what I have found out. What you do with that information will be your choice.

Poe did not realize her eyes had filled with tears, concern for a family member she had neven even met weighing heavily. But she also felt gratitude, with no tribe Poe had always had to work hard at having a sense of family, Ahma had taken Poe under her wing the past two years, guiding the younger Keeper to learn and understand the teachings of the tribal menders and understand her abilities.

And then guilt...oh the guilt. Poe had kept a low profile in Ul’dah and wondered if her limited time had indeed kept her from learning of this new information. Getting to her feet, the Keeper grabbed a larger satchel and started to pack, she had to know what was going on.

Rogue
