Monsoon season is underway in the southwest. We have not had the monsoonal rains in Southern California yet, but the forecast shows a 20% chance of a thunderstorm tomorrow, which came out of nowhere. The hot temperatures forecast may be a result of a monsoonal pattern reversing the jet stream and bringing in rain systems from the desert, which come up from the tropics.

Today's sky was almost empty of the silent "planes." There were no trails or clouds all day. There were a few audible planes that could not be seen. I hate the fact the global warming affects the climate and weather here in the North so that in the summer we only have either way too long and dry heat waves, or cold rainy days fllled with thunderstorms.

The rain is barely a light, nice summer rain anymore but always something close to monsoon, and I don't like it because I always associate that kind of heavy rain with thunderstorms, and now every single time it starts raining, my anxiety kicks in and I start checking the sky every few minutes in case of thunder. My PC turns itself off so so so slowly that I always have a full panic attack as I'm so scared that the thunder will somehow hit this house and breaks something before I manage to unplug my devices. The area where I live in, the thunder also likes to do this thing where it gives absolutely no signs and then suddenly hits very close extremely loud, which always scares the shit out of me and makes me even more nervous cos it might look just normal outdoors and then suddenly there's a random, loud "BOOOOM" and sudden extremely heavy rain.

And not to mention my migraines that get triggered and worsen during thunderstorms. I'm having a migraine-like headache right now and I think it's because it's raining heavily outside, and the weather forecast app says possible thunder for the next 4-5 hours. I wanted to shower today, but I'm too anxious to take a shower now cos it may or may not thunder in the next 5 hours, and I don't want to be in the shower exactly in that timespan that when it maybe starts thundering.

Highly Energized Monsoonal Skies

On the edge of the monsoonal system, we had extreme OR conditions today with very few flights. The southwest is being drenched this week, particularly in the recently gifted areas from Denver to Albuquerque to Tucson.

There is a heat up in the forecast for the next few days. We'll see if it's actually as hot and dry as they say, or if the hot feeling is because of high humidity. It was very humid today. We will also see if the small percentages of rain turn out to be another monsoonal downpour.

Monsoonal rains come to life over the land, and all the smug in the world can't stop it from making it into California (although somehow on the rain map, it looks like the rain knows to stop abruptly at the California border).

Deep depression over Arabian Sea intensifies into cyclonic storm Biparjoy | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday evening said that the deep depression over southeast and adjoining eastcentral Arabian Sea has intensified into cyclonic storm 'Biparjoy' (pronounced as 'Biporjoy'). The IMD as on Tuesday 8pm, in a forecast said, "The Deep Depression over southeast and adjoining eastcentral Arabian Sea moved nearly northwards with a speed of 4 kmph during last 6 hours, has intensified into cyclonic storm 'Biparjoy' and lay centered at 1730 hours IST of today, the June 6, 2023 over eastcentral and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea about 920km west-southwest of Goa, 1050km southwest of Mumbai, 1130km south-southwest of Porbandar and 1430km south of Karachi. It is likely to move nearly northwards and intensify gradually into a Severe Cyclonic Storm over eastcentral Arabian Sea during next 24 hours." Rajesh Kapadia, who runs private weather forecasting blog Vagaries of the Weather, said, there was no direct impact of cyclone in Mumbai. "Some showers on Friday through Sunday for Mumbai from the 'far away' system, with winds at 30 kmph. (Current wind speed in Mumbai today 5/6 kmph),” said Kapadia. Meanwhile, the IMD in its five-day forecast has predicted light to moderate rain very likely from Wednesday to Saturday for parts of Mumbai, Thane and Palghar. Experts have expressed views that the cyclonic storm ‘Biparjoy’ in the Arabian Sea, could lead to a weak monsoon onset. "This is clearly the climate change link, as Arabian Sea warming is favoring more intense cyclones," said climate scientist Roxy Mathew Koll adding that the cyclone is likely to drive away the moisture making it unfavourable for the monsoon onset. According to the national news agency Bernama, Johor is the worst-hit state with more than 25,000 people in relief centres on Thursday morning (Mar 2), compared with 9,162 on Wednesday night. “Segamat is the worst affected district with 2,050 families evacuated to 55 relief centres, followed by Kluang with 1,559 families at 39 centres; Kota Tinggi with 769 families at 18 centres; Johor Bahru with 607 at 12 centres and Pontian involving 58 families at five centres,” Bernama quoted a statement from the Johor State Disaster Management Committee.  The Star reported that all 10 districts in Johor have been hit by floods with more than 25,000 people having to be evacuated, a four-fold increase from the 5,679 flood victims recorded just 20 hours before.  In Pahang, the number of evacuees in five districts rose to 1,375 people from 374 families on Thursday,  up from 293 people on Wednesday night and all of them were housed at 26 relief centres, according to Bernama.  More than 700 people had to be evacuated in Negeri Sembilan, while the number of evacuees in Melaka rose to 67 people.  The Malaysian Meteorological Department forecasted on Thursday that rain will hit several parts of Johor from Thursday afternoon to Friday night.  Just three months ago, several states including Johor were hit by heavy floods and more than 70,000 flood evacuees were recorded.
