For anyone still confused:
Monet St. Croix is of mixed heritage, a Black Arab. Her father is Monegasque/French & her mother is Algerian (North African).
And in her original character concept (even before her retcon as a separate X-Men character in the OG Generation X run, back when the writer intended to reveal she was just the M Twins merged) she canonically STARTED as dark skinned, visibly Black.
No matter how many times subsequent artists have carelessly or knowingly failed to acknowledge & respect that initial intended portrayal of melanin, that is how she SHOULD look.

The panels of Monet and Pietro together from Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver and this weeks Scarlet Witch have been making a lot of rounds. While the majority seem to be getting behind this pairing there has been an ongoing conversation about Monet and Pietro's "age gap" and how that makes the paring wrong.
They are two consenting adults, who met as adults on equal footing and decided to get involved, it's confusing as to how that's controversial. What are your thoughts?
i'll try(and fail) to keep it short, but that's a great question and i feel like it is very...complex.
as you said, they are both consenting adults with no power dynamic involved and who met as...adults, so there isn't anything wrong with their relationship. i don't consider it controversial, problematic or morally wrong, and being completely honest, i feel like most of that discourse comes from a place of racism. pietro is very villainized by the fandom and a lot of his actions are deemed criminous and problematic by people who do not read the comics, but use the same panels over and over to prove their point.
i think the most obvious evidence of that is both that discourse and the house of m fiasco, where a lot of people seriously refuse to see from the twins perspectives. there's also that moment where wanda calls him a sociopath, which is also used a lot, and i think it's a bit obvious that pietro is seen like that because of his rrom heritage and ethnicity; both the comics and the fandom have used of that identity as a way to villainize him, whether it's conscious or not. and when it comes to monet, who is a woc character with autistic-coding, people are now really infantilizing her for no actual reason: and most of those people weren't really connected to the character before.
monet has been shown as an adult woman for a long time now and has been in relationships with men older than her(and pietro) before, but only now that she's dating a romani man, are people deeming her too young. i do see a few people say her other relationships were problematic as well, but i never really saw people insist on a subject so much before, and the timing is very...suspicious. last but not least, we can also just say it's because a lot of people nowadays are very chronically online and refuse to acknowledge that things aren't as black and white as they say(and they also would say anything to get a few likes, so yeah, there's that too).
feel free to correct if you want, by the way! this is just what i assume is happening, but i can definitely be wrong.
thank you for the question!
