Amajita will contest the upcoming U-20 Africa Cup of Nations without Lyle Foster, but Leicester City midfielder Khanya Leshabela has been included in the 21-man squad.

Head coach Thabo Senong announced his squad for the competition on Wednesday morning, including some of the country’s top prospects such as Promise Mkhuma of Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs’ Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Luke le Roux from SuperSport United.

Amajita are in Group A with hosts Niger, Burundi and Nigeria.

“We worked with a very talented group which made it really difficult for us to come up with the final 21-man squad that is to represent the country in Niger,” Senong said. “It is every player’s dream to represent their nation at the highest level and is quite unfortunate that we could not take all of them.

“I believe we have selected a balanced squad that will represent the nation well in the upcoming AFCON U-20 tournament.”

A top-four finish will see Amajita qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will be played in Poland later this year.

Amajita coach Thabo Senong has included five European-based players in a provisional squad for the defence of their COSAFA U-20 Championship title.

The men’s national Under-20 side will reassemble this weekend as they commence final prepararations for the upcoming regional showpiece next month.

This year’s biennial tournament is being hosted in Kitwe, Zambia and will run from December 2-14.

Amongst the players called up to the 28-man squad, which will later be trimmed down, are goalkeeper Buhle Damane of Vitoria Setubal (Portugal), defenders Bradley Cross of Schalke (Germany) and Dean Solomons of Ajax (Netherlands), and midfielders Kobamelo Kodisang of AD Sanjoanense FC (Portugal) and Tashreeq Matthews from Borussia Dortmund (Germany).
