PART 1

One September day, B. Wooster found out about Jeeves' disappearance from Aunt Dahlia's telegram.

Early summer of 1940. Bertram Wooster was completing his studies at an aviation school. At the same time his faithful valet, Jeeves, temporarily went to the service of the already mentioned relative at Brinkley Court and became the second jewel in the staff of servants besides the highly talented cook Anatole.

Due to the straitened financial situation of Uncle Tom, who complained more and more about the increasing taxes, the dearest aunt had to take forced measures and fire a few servants. She wanted to make a small sacrifice, and it might have been enough if one day her stingy husband had not cut the already small wages of the remaining servants. Many of them had applied for dismissal after that, and they were quite understandable.

This radical decision, although to a lesser extent, also affected Jeeves. Nevertheless, he continued to be a professional. He fulfilled his basic duties and often helped her, and her old friends get out of troubles.

Within a few months of Jeeves' work, they had become friends. Bertram almost felt like a third wheel in this idyll when he came to visit and boast of his achievements. Aunt Dahlia treasured her new valet and his unrivalled intelligence, and often jokingly promised in letters to her nephew that Jeeves would be returned safe and sound.

That was why she was seriously worried when Jeeves went missing. One clear day in early September, an elderly relative had let him go to London on his own business. In addition to this, it was Jeeves' duty to check on their good old Berkeley Mansions flat from time to time and keep it clean, so he planned to finish his business by evening and stay in the city overnight. He was supposed to return early the next morning. But that never happened. Not in two days. Not in three.

That night London was bombarded.

Something seemed to snap and collapse inside Bertie when he learnt that the search for Jeeves had been fruitless. Neither his relatives nor his club could shed any light on his mysterious disappearance.

The dark thoughts from which Bertram had fled during the day caught up with him at night. He would toss and turn on the hard bed, thinking of Jeeves's fate and replaying happy memories of their past, and in the daytime, tired and broken, he would give his duty to his country.

The whole situation seemed strange and unreal to him. The only thing that was found out for sure was that no one appeared in the apartment that miraculously survived the monstrous raids that day. It was dusty.

A couple of months had passed since the tragedy that divided Bertie's life into before and after. The war continued. He was learning to adjust to his new reality.

Sometimes he managed to carve out some free time and pop into London for a bit. The city where he had lived more than a third of his life was in ruins. The familiar places where he used to meet his friends and have a good time were empty.

Your humble servant avoided going into that very flat. There were too many vivid memories of that place, which painfully and mercilessly squeezed Bertram Wooster's poor skull. Indeed, the most precious person in his life had been living at his side all that time.

But still, as the sole and responsible owner of his property, he had to overpower himself. He had to go in and make sure that everything was all right. And one such day Bertie found himself there, in their former cozy home.

He walked in and looked around the living room: a layer of dust covering almost everything, furniture wrapped in covers, and only a few of his own things that he had left or forgotten here. The piano was covered with a cloth. Unbearably quiet and lifeless. There was nobody else to keep order here, nobody else's hand to create the home comfort. Sorrowful feelings pressed upon his chest.

He looked all over the flat. Almost all of it. There was only one room left to check.

After a moment's hesitation, Bertram pulled himself together and went into Jeeves's room. He had only glimpsed it from inside before. It was modest and not as spacious as his bedroom. Wooster sat down on the perfectly made bed, looking at what little was left of his dear friend, guide, and philosopher. His eyes rested on the various books dusting the shelves and cupboards.

He recognized one of them. It was the volume of Spinoza's writings he had given Jeeves for his birthday. No doubt Jeeves had read it all. As the rest of the books in the room. Bertie remembered his politely grateful smile and how he had clearly decided that this fellow deserved a whole library of those Spinozas.

He got out of bed. The code of the Woosters did not allow him to touch other people's things (even if those things belonged to a man who might never come back into his life), but something outweighed the young master's unwavering principles that day.

He didn't even notice how he left the flat with the book in his hands.

Of course, this sort of talisman invariably occupied a place in his suitcase. Though he had endeavored to handle the book with care, it had become tattered with the passage of time. Bertram often held it in his hands, flicked through the pages, ran his eyes over the neat pencil notes of its former owner. It calmed him a little in the most difficult moments of his pilot practice. He didn't understand anything about philosophy, but he treasured this book too damn much.

When they reunited, they were about a year away from the end of the war. The house with their previous flat was in a state of emergency damaged by the recent bombing raids, so Jeeves looked for a new flat for them while his employer was still undergoing treatment.

It happened some time later after their move-in. Jeeves was doing his household chores while the young master followed him around and chattered about anything that came into his head. It would have annoyed anyone, but not Jeeves.

You see, he had been abroad for a long time. However, he was not on holiday. Against his will, he was assigned important tasks and missions which he had to fulfil if he did not want to lose his freedom, his successful career, his reputation, his family, and friends. The special promise of making one particular person's life unbearable also left him no choice.

Every day, Jeeves felt like he was sitting on a powder keg: at any moment, a surprise inspection could come through the doors of his headquarters. A highly undesirable event for a man who kept fake documents, weapons, and encrypted data transmission devices in his flat. But all possible escape routes had been carefully worked out and memorized: Jeeves was always prudent. Otherwise, he had to have time to take a special pill before he found himself tied to a chair in a small interrogation room.

Keeping his charm and politeness, he was effective in getting the right information from the right people. His knowledge of psychology and accumulated experience of working with people helped him in this.

Jeeves' missions were rarely close to failure. His life depended on it.

The slightest mistake could have been fatal to him. Of course, he had learned much about the country during his training to pass for a typical Frenchman. His French had been practically flawless even before, which only made his life easier. But still somewhere in the back of his mind was the fear that he would be exposed for the smallest inaccuracy.

Jeeves lived under a false identity with a fake life story. He changed outwardly and inwardly. His gait, the way he spoke, his body language, his facial expressions. He had complete control over his body. Especially his gaze, which could tell a lot about his thoughts. It was exhausting.

After a long time of living in this way, he began to have trouble sleeping: he slept very little and sensitively or could not fall asleep at all.

He rarely had any dreams during the restless hours when he was able to fall asleep. Sometimes he had nightmares. But they were not about him. They were about Mr Wooster. Same scenario: church, flowers, closed coffin. Then it would slowly open from the inside. And Jeeves would wake up in a cold sweat.

On sleepless nights, he was also tormented by thoughts of his former employer. Where was he now? Was he all right? Was he even alive? How did he feel about his disappearance? Would he want to see him again...?

Jeeves felt his mind, which he relied on in the most critical situations, begin to fail.

Meeting his employer again and doing the household chores for him, he felt himself slowly getting his head in order. He was enjoying the much-anticipated company of Mr Wooster. It soothed him and made him feel at home.

Jeeves opened the closet to put the ironed clothes in it. The young master standing next to him had been lost in the chatter and missed the moment when he should have pulled him back. In the next moment Jeeves had pulled the ruined book out of the wardrobe the same way as he pulled out foreign clothes. By the title of the book, he thought at first that his master was interested in serious literature. But on closer look and leafing through the book, he realized that it was his own.

Bertie watched it silently with his eye wide open. He couldn't just get rid of it, but at the same time he was ashamed to return a book in such a terrible condition to its owner. He planned to buy the exact same one soon, but until then, this volume of essays would be safely hidden away. But here his innocent secret was revealed. Jeeves looked at him with a silent question in his eyes.

He tried to justify himself, but this particular Wooster was a bad liar. Especially when the pent-up feelings were starting to overwhelm him. Jeeves often let his employer fool him about little things, but they both knew very well that it was actually impossible to do this. A couple of precise laconic remarks and B. Wooster found himself disarmed. He took a breath of air and began to speak.

Jeeves listened patiently to his poor master with a mask of calmness pulled over his face and dared not interrupt.

He was sorry. He was deeply sorry for the pain he had caused Mr Wooster and his dear people by his forced departure. However, Jeeves spoke little and reluctantly about what he had been doing in recent years and did not tell anyone about the very reasons for his disappearance. This information could have caused a lot of trouble.

And Bertram realized it. His Jeeves could not just disappear for no reason, he was sure of it. But sometimes, in the deep sleepless night, a wild guess would cross his weary mind. What if Jeeves had run away, had simply abandoned him? Of course, Bertie had scolded himself for such thoughts in the mornings then. And today when Jeeves prepares breakfast for him, reminds him to take his medicine, and helps him to dress, that idea seems to him on the verge of sanity. But then he was quite capable of finding irrefutable evidence in all sorts of little things. At that time, he did not know what to think: the search for the injured had ended, Jeeves remained on the list of missing persons.

Bertram stood before him and could find no more words. But words were no longer needed. Jeeves looked at him with bright, penetrating eyes and the silence that settled in the room was filled with peace. Jeeves was truly touched. He felt a huge boulder fall from his soul.

It seemed now, as his employer lowered his head dejectedly and hid his wet eyes from him, they had the perfect moment to dot the «i».

It's been a long day.

Of course, this book stayed in their new flat and became a symbol of something important for them. Bertram, Jeeves' poor love, had indeed taken desperate measures then.

However, Jeeves pointed out that such measures would no longer be necessary.

For now, he would be there for him. He came back.

“Are you okay?” Leo asked gently. She nodded, careful to keep her sight set on one point above Leo’s shoulder in order to avoid getting dizzy again. Leo looked even less convinced than before. “You don’t look too good. C’mere. You can chill out in here with me and we’ll–” “No,” she interrupted sharply, taking a step back from him. “Look, I’m fine. I told you, I’m just tired. You and Jason go have fun on your date, okay?” “What? No, are you–” “I told you I’m fine,” she insisted, her tone turning a little snappish. She turned to make her retreat back down the hall, but before she could go anywhere, she felt overly-warm fingers wrap around her wrist. She looked over her shoulder to see Leo frowning down at their connected hands in shocked confusion, and she snatched her wrist back before he could do some weird fire power thing and deduce her temperature down to the tenth decimal or something. “Bye, Leo. Have fun with Jason.” Before he could say another word, she fled. *** Piper got sick every summer because the world hated her. Fortunately, she's on a boat with her best friends in the world. Unfortunately, said friends are busy.

Piper hated being sick. She doubted anyone loved being sick, but it held a special spot on the shelf of “Well, this sucks” in her heart. When she was little, being sick meant bowl after bowl of warm black bean soup while her dad coddled her and brushed her bangs off her forehead and recited any story she requested in her weak, scratchy voice. But it had been a long, long time since he’d done that. Instead, being sick started to mean disinterested assistants coming into her room every hour on the hour to make sure that she hadn’t died since the last time they’d checked, and maybe a phone call from her dad, assuming he even remembered she was sick in the first place. And even that was only if she was lucky enough to be sick at home, of course. If she got sick at whatever school she’d been most recently shipped off to, she had to brace herself for even less than that.

There had been one time at Wilderness when she’d come down with the flu during that time she and Leo had been roommates. She’d woken him up with her coughing and sneezing in the middle of the night, and she begged him to go back to sleep and just ignore her. At first, it seemed like he was going to do what she’d said, but then he’d mysteriously wound up with a 102 degree fever the next morning, which had miraculously only lasted for as long as she was sick, too. He hadn’t done much, he couldn’t really, but he sat at the foot of her bed and chattered while he tinkered with his little contraptions and made sure she had plenty of water. He’d even snuck into the communal kitchen and made her a bowl of instant ramen with what he swore was vegetable broth instead of chicken. Unfortunately, she’d been hit with another wave of nausea and puked it up less than an hour later, but the gesture was still appreciated. 

That’s where her mind wandered when she woke up in her bed on the Argo II, feeling like she’d been run over with a truck and her skull had been over-inflated. Great. A summer cold. She got them basically every year, for some reason, but she’d been convinced that her shiny new (well, new-ish) status as a demi-god would ward it off this time around. She should have known she wouldn’t be that lucky.

Without wasting what time and little energy she had on an internal debate, she was on her feet, shuffling down the hall, and knocking on the door to Leo’s cabin. 

Surprisingly, he answered. If she’d been even a little more cognizant, she would have expected him to be in the engine room and covered in grease, but he was neither. She blinked slowly at him and squinted. “What are you doing in here?”

He laughed at her, the sound loud and bright and ringing painfully in her skull. “This is my room, Beauty Queen, remember? Better question is what are you doing here before you’ve downed your usual pot of coffee?”

She furrowed her brow at him, ignoring his question. “Why aren’t you covered in gunk?”

He looked a little exasperated now, and his cheeks were starting to flush pink. “I do know what a bath is. You know that, right?” 

“Yeah, but why?”

“You’re the one who said that a man’s gotta make a good impression when he goes out, even if it’s not a first impression.”

Piper froze. She suddenly remembered Leo barging into her room a few nights before, his whole face scarlet and near-about hyperventilating as he recounted Jason sheepishly asking if maybe they could go get ice cream or something next time the Argo II had to make a pitstop. She’d shrieked right along with him, and together they picked out his least grimy pair of cargo shorts and his least embarrassing t-shirt. “We’ve stopped somewhere?”

Leo nodded, and the frown he wore dug a little crease between his furrowed eyebrows. “Uh, yeah. We’re right outside of Barcelona. We talked about this at dinner last night, remember?”

“I– yeah, of course I do,” she lied. “Sorry, you’re right. I definitely need to properly wake up.”

Leo didn’t look entirely convinced, but he still gave her a little smile. “Yeah. You want us to get you anything while we’re down there?”

She shook her head, then squeezed her eyes shut to fight off the wave of dizzy nausea that followed. She took in a short, sharp huff of air and flinched when she felt Leo brush his knuckles across the back of her wrist. She blinked a couple times until Leo’s concerned frown finally came back into focus. His mouth was still moving, so it was obvious he’d said something she didn’t hear. “Huh?”

She stumbled her way back to her bed where she collapsed in a heap. She shivered violently and burrowed her way under her blanket. She’d be fine. She’d been sick before all by herself, and she could do it again. She just needed a nap, and when she felt a little better she’d go get some Nectar or Ambrosia or whatever out of the bathroom medicine cabinet. If thad didn’t work, and she was feeling really desperate, she’d go ask Coach to give her some of that gross Nature Healing Gatorade he’d given her on their quest to rescue Hera. It was gonna suck, just like being sick always did, but it was gonna be okay. 

She’d be fine. 

Piper was not fine. 

She wasn’t sure how long she’d been asleep, but her body ached like she’d been suffering for a thousand years and her head was stuffed to the brim with cotton balls. She was still freezing cold, so she shuddered and pulled her blanket tighter around her shoulders. With a soft, pitiful groan, she rolled over and pressed her face into the firm stomach in front of her, determined to only emerge when the world was a less awful place to be. 

Wait a minute.

She froze to let her brain sluggishly get back up to speed before she tilted her head back and pried open her crusted over eyes to see Jason beaming down at her with warm affection and amusement. “Hi there.”

She just squinted at him. After a moment, she opened her mouth to ask what he was doing there, but that was definitely not what came out. “Who are you?”

“That’s Mickey’s friend Pluto,” Leo’s voice piped up from behind her. She made a half-hearted effort to roll over and look at him, but Jason’s stomach was warm and she was very tired, so she gave up pretty easily. 

When Jason spoke, she could practically hear the way his face puckered at Leo’s claim. “I don’t know who that is, but I don’t think it was a compliment.”

“It wasn’t,” Piper confirmed on an exhausted mumble, hiding her face away again. “I hate Pluto. And Goofy.”

“Yeah, yeah, you can tell Superman all about the injustices of the anthropomorphized world of Mickey Mouse and friends later,” Leo told her. “Right now you have to eat this.”

She whined, but let Leo roll her over onto her back and force feed her a spoonful of pudding. Instantly, the flavor of ramen noodles flooded her mouth and her face twisted up in displeasure. “Gross. What did you just make me eat?”

“Well, it’s Ambrosia, so you’re the one in charge of the flavor, not me,” Leo defended. He pressed the back of his wrist to her forehead and frowned. “Geeze, Beauty Queen, you’ve still got a nasty fever. No wonder you mistook Jason for a yellow cartoon dog.”

 “She did not! That was you!”

“Literally whatever,” Leo dismissed. He sat down on the floor next to her bed so they were practically nose-to-nose, and he frowned at her. “Why didn’t you tell me you were feeling bad earlier?”

“You shouldn’t be here,” Piper warned, ignoring the question. “You’re gonna get sick yourself. Both of you.”

Leo made an incorrect buzzer sound at her, but thankfully it was a lot quieter than the obnoxious noise they normally did. “Try again. I literally can’t catch whatever you have. Unlike you squishy organics, I’m too hot for germs and shit.”

“Well, what about Jason?”

“I had Coach make some immune-boosting Nature Healing stuff, so I’m good,” Jason said. His nose wrinkled. “It’s still gross, in case you were wondering.”

Piper chuckled, but quickly ran out of breath, so she quieted down. Then she frowned again. “Wait, I thought you two were getting ice cream. What are you doing here?”

“We were down there for maybe fifteen minutes before Leo spilled about you acting weird earlier,” Jason told her. “It sounded pretty bad, and we were worried, so we came back and checked on you.”

Piper grimaced. “You didn’t have to do that. Sorry.”

“Well, I’m glad we did it,” Leo frowned. “Piper, you looked… bad. Why didn’t you say something? You were, like, sick-sick. I’m talking full-on unresponsive, we’ve been giving you Nectar on and off for the past hour kind of sick.”

She shrugged and let her eyes slide shut. Their conversation hadn’t been long, but it was exhausting. She kinda just wanted to go back to sleep. “You were busy. I didn’t want to bother you.” 

A heavy silence fell over her little cabin, and she felt like she’d said the wrong thing. She squeezed her eyes shut and took in a deep breath through her nose, determined to deal with whatever they said next with at least what little dignity she had left.

Then, a set of calloused fingers combed through her bangs, gently brushing them away from her forehead. “You’re not a bother, Piper,” Leo said softly. “You’re never gonna be a bother. Not to us. You and me, remember?”

Don’t cry, Piper told herself firmly as she squeezed her eyes shut tighter. She didn’t normally have a problem with any over-emotional bawling sessions she deemed necessary, but they usually left her feeling dehydrated and a little light-headed, which was the opposite of what she probably needed right now. Instead of crying, she grabbed Leo’s wrist and pressed her face into his palm and took in a deep, shuddering breath when he brushed his thumb over her cheekbone. “I’m tired.”

“Then sleep,” Jason ordered kindly. “We’ll be here when you wake up.”

“I’ll get you something to eat, too,” Leo added. “Maybe something better than shitty instant ramen, yeah?”

She sniffled, but she couldn’t help but smile. “Promise?”

She kept her eyes shut, but she could hear their answering smiles. “Promise.”

So I discovered this AU about 5 hours ago and it has me in a chokehold. Your Yonji is a precious bean and he must be protected at all times, and Sanji being a big brother is everything I didn't even know I wanted. <3 I hope you don't mind the influx of questions I have after going through the whole tag.

So speaking of Sanji being a big brother, have he and Yonji ever hugged? If so, what prompted it? Is Yonji more touchy-feely than Sanji in general, or are they both pretty touch-averse?

How does Yonji fight? Did he develop his own style of fighting after leaving Germa 66, much like Sanji did, or does he still fight the way he did when working under Judge? Is he still really good at fighting, or does he easily become a nonfunctional, overwhelmed mess, bombarded on all sides with everyone's heightened and fraught emotions?

Does Yonji's prosthetic arm have attachments and hidden weapons? How does he upkeep it? Does he know how it works decently enough do to it himself, or does he have a mechanic that he goes to for tuneups?

Who taught Yonji tailoring and fashion? Sanji had Zeff to help him become a master chef, so did someone take Yonji under their wing in a similar fashion? Or is he entirely self-taught?

Does Yonji ever feel bad for leaving his brothers and sister behind? Unlike Sanji, who had normal human emotions from the get-go, Yonji's been on both sides of the fence, and he knows what it's like to be the sociopathic killing machine their father turned them into. Does he wish there was some way to trigger what happened to him in them as well? Do he and Sanji ever talk about their family? We know Sanji was the only one to regularly go and visit their mother, but do you think Yonji has any memories of her as well? Does he beg Sanji for stories about her?

Where does Yonji live? Does Sanji swing by to visit him every so often, or do they keep in touch by air mail, does Yonji join the Strawhats or just travel with them?

Does Sanji ever have a "O shit, I think I might actually love him" moment when it comes to Yonji? It could be something domestic like laughing together in Sanji's kitchen they work together to prepare a meal, or something like seeing Yonji about to be injured or even killed in the middle of a fight and going "This is the only little brother I've got, not on my watch, dammit!"

They've hugged, mostly at WCI arc. But for the most part they're touch adverse (despite being touch starved). Yonji enjoys instigating physical affection to anyone but he's not great at taking it.

Is he still really good at fighting, or does he easily become a nonfunctional, overwhelmed mess, bombarded on all sides with everyone's heightened and fraught emotions?

Yonji very rarely fights anymore. He usually quickly gets overwhelmed and becomes a mess, yes, due to all of the emotions. Whenever he gets into a fight he loses control of his Haki and it's a bad time. However, if he has a goal, (protecting someone, getting something etc.) he can power through it. His fighting style is still mostly brute force punching because he hasn't learned any other way. However, when he joins the Revs, he gets taught to be more smart about it.

Does Yonji's prosthetic arm have attachments and hidden weapons? How does he upkeep it? Does he know how it works decently enough do to it himself, or does he have a mechanic that he goes to for tuneups?

It used to! He broke a lot of them/refuses to use them. He knew how it worked enough to keep it functional up until he meets the Strawhats and upon finding the frankly horrendous state of the prosthetic, Franky helps make Yonji a new one, specialized for tailoring! He rarely gets issues with the new are but if he does he can usually troubleshoot himself or attempt to contact Franky.

Who taught Yonji tailoring and fashion? Sanji had Zeff to help him become a master chef, so did someone take Yonji under their wing in a similar fashion? Or is he entirely self-taught?

For the most part, he's self-taught! Maybe I'll give him a mentor but I'm usually pretty adverse to making OCs for my AUs. Hmmmmm. He definitely had a training arc under some big name shops at one point though.

Does Yonji ever feel bad for leaving his brothers and sister behind? Unlike Sanji, who had normal human emotions from the get-go, Yonji's been on both sides of the fence, and he knows what it's like to be the sociopathic killing machine their father turned them into. Does he wish there was some way to trigger what happened to him in them as well? Do he and Sanji ever talk about their family? We know Sanji was the only one to regularly go and visit their mother, but do you think Yonji has any memories of her as well? Does he beg Sanji for stories about her?

*smacks yonji on the head* This good boy can fit so much guilt complex in him! He's guilty about everything all the time! Yes, he does want to help Ichiji and Niji, which comes into play post WCI. While Sanji and Yonji tend to avoid talking about Judge or their siblings, Sora has been brought up before. I know I haven't mentioned it on tumblr yet, but I sometimes draw Yonji with a necklace, which is supposed to be a trinket of Sora's that Reiju gave to him when Yonji ran away. Yonji's memories of Sora is hazy and he pretty torn up about it. Yeah, he asks Sanji for stories about her. <3

Where does Yonji live? Does Sanji swing by to visit him every so often, or do they keep in touch by air mail, does Yonji join the Strawhats or just travel with them?

He lives on this random island along the Grandline! Something kinda like Saboady or Hand Island. The Straw Hats (specifically) Sanji has visited few times post the initial meeting but Yonji does not actively travle with them. He might had, like, one adventure with them but otherwise he's not part of the crew or anything. He does get the SH's den den mushi number and keeps in touch that way. Occasionally he'll send packages- usually at the behest of Sanji at the behest of Nami, lol. Later, Yonji ends up getting roped into joining the Revs and he splits his time between being at his shop and at Baltigo.

Does Sanji ever have a "O shit, I think I might actually love him" moment when it comes to Yonji? It could be something domestic like laughing together in Sanji's kitchen they work together to prepare a meal, or something like seeing Yonji about to be injured or even killed in the middle of a fight and going "This is the only little brother I've got, not on my watch, dammit!"

YES! Specifically Yonji crying and gushing about how good Sanji's cooking is. Yonji is a little foodie and while he can't cook to save his life, he does happen to know a good bit about how food gets made and really learned to appreciate the effort that goes into cooking. Sanji is not normal over this fact. He has the "Don't touch my brother!" moment at WCI screaming at Judge. Which sends Yonji into a blubbering mess. (A lot of things happen WCI lmfao.)

Lastly, do you have any songs in mind for you AU, aside from the ones you've used for your animatics?

My ass doesn't actively listen to a whole bunch of music but I have made a playlist for this AU! The vibe mostly is like upbeat songs with sad lyrics lol.

Kaiju Weeks in Review (March 31-April 13, 2024)

It took forever (maybe they were waiting on the returns for Godzilla x Kong), but Apple TV+ has finally greenlit season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. According to its listing on the WGA site, it'll run from 2024 to 2025. Multiple spinoffs are also in development at Apple; no details on those yet.

Speaking of Godzilla x Kong, it continues to do well, staying #1 at the domestic box office in its second weekend and falling to #2 (behind Civil War) in its third. Current totals are $158 million domestic and $437 million worldwide. It'll soon pass the domestic gross of Kong: Skull Island and the total gross of Godzilla vs. Kong.

Godzilla vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers II #1 promises more of everything: more heroes (the White Ranger joins our heroes from the first comic), more villains (including Psycho Ranger Ghidora up there), and more alternate universes. Godzilla gets a bit buried in all the Ranger antics though.

A couple of kaiju series debuted on TV too: Kaiju No. 8 and Season 2 of Chibi Godzilla Raids Again. The former followed the manga very closely, and as such didn't really keep my attention; hopefully it innovates a bit more going forward. Chibi Godzilla's as irreverent as ever.

Tsuburaya Productions has released preliminary information on the next installment of the Ultra Series, Ultraman Arc. The logline:

A town called Hoshimoto City... On Mt. Shishio, there is a gigantic object towering above the city. Named "Monohorn," (モノホーン, Monohōn) it is actually a kaiju’s horn stuck in the ground since an incident 16 years ago. After the incident known as "K-DAY" in which kaiju appeared all over the world at the same time, monster disasters have become commonplace. In Japan, the Global Defense Force (GDF) uses force to deal with them, while SKIP works closely with the community in scientific investigations and evacuation guidance to prevent the occurrence and aggravation of kaiju disasters. SKIP has also been investigating the Monohorn, the horn of the galactic beast Monogelos (モノゲロス, Monogerosu) that appeared on K-DAY. Yuma, then only 7 years old, was camping with his parents in Mt. Shishio when Monogelos attacked. After miraculously surviving unscathed, he decided to pursue research into monster biology. Despite his traumatic past, he has not lost his “power of imagination” to dream. As a rookie investigator, Yuma joined SKIP and was assigned to the Hoshimoto City Branch. Not long after, another large-scale monster disaster occurs in Hoshimoto City. As Yuma sees the desperate people in front of him, a strong will springs into his mind — “I want to protect them!” At the moment when this strong and straightforward desire welled up from the bottom of his heart, Yuma hears the voice of Rution  (ルティオン,  Rution) a being of light that he once saw as a child: “You and I are one and the same… Unleash your imagination!” When a mysterious light appears in Yuma's hand and envelops his body, the unleashed power of imagination unites light and man and he transforms into Ultraman Arc, the Giant of Light who protects the future! Alongside his precious friends, Yuma, as well as Ultraman Arc, races towards his everlasting dream!

Yuma is played by Yuki Totsuka, while Takanori Tsujimoto is the lead director. He's directed for the series since Ultraman X, but this is his biggest assignment to date.

After beginning to release select Movie Monster Series figures in the States, Bandai America is now fully back in the Godzilla game, with articulated figures, 5-inch vinyls, blind box figures, and transforming eggs all up for preorder at the Godzilla Store and other toy sites. The eggs come from the 2014 Godzilla-E.G. line and the rest is all-new. Not much of a selection so far, but with how big Godzilla is right now, I'm sure there'll be more to come.

SRS Cinema has opened preorders for its War of the Ninja Monsters: Jaron vs. Goura Blu-ray, due in late July or August. Shinpei Hayashiya's latest epic, it'll come with behind-the-scenes footage and maybe a commentary track, which would be nice given how little information is available about his films online.

Simblreen Story: The sickly baroness ...

A once lively party animal, the beloved Baroness Talbot of The Hollow has mysteriously fallen ill. Vivienne, the joyful & industrious baroness of The Hollow was plagued by bouts of anaemia, nightmares and ill health until very recently. But, following a miraculous recovery, the once polished royal now borders on the extravagant; with plunging neck lines, avantgarde style and excessive makeup, she once again becomes the hostess of the best parties in town. Yet, the company she keeps, becomes stranger to her husband's dismay. "At least she covers up when she goes out," he thinks to himself, "but why do I have to pay for an extra servant just to hold the umbrella?".

I couldn't help adding this character and story to my Simblreen treats, when Nolan-Sim's birthday fell in October! Made for Nolan-Sims for her birthday.

thinking about john's multitude of short-lived, often quickly-abandoned apartments for some reason, so a couple details:

although you might expect to find a very wizard-y interior to any place he's currently living at — you know, grimoires, skulls, dust, clutter, etc. — his flats actually tend to be fairly spartan in terms of decor; they've even been accused of looking modern, here and there. he just moves too frequently to really settle in & accrue Things, and has so often had to simply up & leave everything he currently owned behind (with very little chance of getting any of it back) that he no longer attaches much meaning to household objects.

besides the consistent presence of at least one bookshelf with at least 12 books on it, and a sad sprig of garden sage that miraculously hasn't died yet, the one exception to his lack of personal touch is his extensive collection of records + tapes, all of which he has repeatedly & methodically tracked down and bought / bid / traded / stolen / threatened for / blackmailed for / simply taken back whenever an enterprising landlord or new tenant left him the opportunity to do so. his record player itself has never needed to be taken back, since it has always mysteriously vanished from whatever flat he's leaving and mysteriously appeared wherever he's staying; it's convenient like that. his 10th anniversary walkman, however, frequently goes missing, only to turn up again later in a place he KNOWS he checked when he's least expecting it.

lack of home decor isn't to say he doesn't own much, mind: the bulk of his personal possessions — assorted occult paraphernalia, blackmail documentation, miscellaneous crap from his mucous membrane days, and anything he is able to take with him from past flats — are usually stored off-site, in a secure location that can't easily be tied back to him. this guy's been accused of being a satanic killer on multiple occasions, he knows better than to keep all the real shit out where anyone can just swan in and see it.

currently, this storage location (which i lovingly call occult shit central) is an abandoned inner london storefront + adjoining flat that was formerly his old friend ray monde's shop and home, called brick-a-brac antiques. it's decidedly cozier than the last place, (in that there are chairs, plural,) and has fewer bear traps laid out in anticipation of unlucky thieves; in fact, if a person were to visit without already knowing where constantine actually lives, it'd be easy to mistake it as his expectedly-wizardy flat. it's not an ideal location for an occult shit central, too close to the heart of the city and too close to people to avoid drumming up suspicion should constantine attempt any sort of ritual inside, but until chas finally quits ducking the paperwork and signs over his storage lot (which he may or may not be dragging his feet on out of pure resentment for having to do it at all) ray's place is the best option there is.

constantine's previous (and future) storage location was a lock-up in streatham that chas had been letting him use (see: all but surrendered to him entirely) since he got out of ravenscar, but after constantine's sister died, john decided he was done with magic and, in a spontaneous fit of rage, burnt the place down with everything but a few necessities still inside. he regretted this later, when he inevitably returned to the occult scene after just over a year away, and spent a lot of time calling in favors / hypnotizing arson inspectors to try and put together an inventory of everything he'd lost.

in the nearly 20 years since the fire, he's managed to replace or find substitutes for about 2/3 of what he had (occult-wise), and gather enough fresh dirt / do enough favors / orchestrate enough compromising situations to accumulate a little over 1/4 of the political / interpersonal power he once maintained. ( the lack of success in the latter being, in part, because people now in power aren't as familiar with his name & reputation as they once were; in part because people just don't believe in magic as much as they used to, or were otherwise bought by hell / heaven / other parties a LONG time ago; and in part because he's come to absolutely fucking despise most politicians / people in power more than he is willing to work with them, or more than he is able to plausibly believe they won't try to drop him at the first opportunity. )

you would be hard-pressed to find a landlady/landlord that speaks kindly of this man. if he wasn't kicked out for suspicious smells / disturbing noises / sudden infestations / suspected satanic activity, then it's likely that he abruptly up and disappeared in the middle of the night, with no warning and no rent. (on a few occasions, this vanishing act also coincided conspicuously with a gruesome death on the premises, sometimes of the landlady/landlord themselves, although no one's ever been able to prove anything.) frankly it's . . . magic, that people still rent to him.

due to these aforementioned bad ends, he's incredibly lucky if he gets enough time or leeway to take any sort of furniture with him from one place to the next. however, there is one incredibly comfy, wing-backed, sapphire-blue armchair that's miraculously managed to survive every move in the last ten or so years without being reported stolen — even though it has survived every move because it has, in fact, been stolen in the dead of night nearly every single time, by john and at least one of his buddies.

It was always labor to relocate and pack up the great hall Auden considered their primary residence back in Avalon. It could take weeks to pack the forge alone depending on how confident Auden felt regarding the availability of sourcing items they might have forgotten, things like clothes and personal items took almost no time whatsoever given how little variety there was in Auden’s dress, but the curios and memento moris they enjoyed keeping at the front of their shop and in their drafting space was always a painstaking endeavor. With news of an Aetherian invasion in the Iskaran kingdom and a likely rush of darkspawn forces only days to weeks away from a potential invasion of the Lysaran border, Auden was convinced the residency they planned to serve in Eterna’s term would last as long as the high elven dared to risk being absent from their homeland and the light of the Laurelin tree. Kingdoms didn’t fall in a matter of years, after all–well, with the exception of Iskaldrik which folded in the span of several weeks, deservedly so from Auden’s perspective. 

Miraculously, everything had made it to Eterna in one piece, no tool, skeleton, material, or sculpture worse for wear. They were not always this lucky as they traveled from forge to forge to pass the years and work their craft. Many of their favorite items had broken in their travel, but Auden felt a deep sense of relief that this was the trip where all items arrived intact given they had brought a selection of their favorite and most impressive items. 

Since beginning to settle into the new forge, the front room of the shop now contained a large hunk of an ornately carved pillar taken from the ruins of a once-great cathedral, a crystallized skeleton of a snake, a glass case of several animal skulls, a verifiable jungle of many types of plants, and a great slab of petrified wood. There were still trunks of items to unpack, and Auden was determined to finish the front room where they would confer with clients by the time they called it quits for the day–no distractions.

Until there was a distraction of course. The figure of someone passing by the front window garnered Auden’s attention for a moment, but the recognition of the woman’s profile and curtain of dark hair gave Auden reason to truly pause. The passerby stopped for a moment to peer into the window–what had caught their eye remained a mystery to Auden–but it didn’t quite matter once they caught sight of Zuleima’s face and realized her initial instinct that it was the familiar strigoi passing the shop was correct. Despite their close call with a pride demon, Auden still housed extremely high regard for their own work–there were few they’d consider equal at their own respective craft or subject matter, but Zuleima was among those ranks. Auden stood straight and unlocked the shop door, opening it and leaning out slightly to look at Zuleima directly. “Casing the joint, are we?” Auden teased with a crooked grin before stepping back and gesturing to invite the woman to step inside.

A Fond Farewell to Act 1

After dithering about a fashion faux pas most unfortunate, and with nothing else to do on all of the maps, it is finally time for me to bid a fond farewell to Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3, and via the Mountain Pass head into the uncertain transition stage to Act 2 (and presumably the consequences of my actions).

But before I go. A moment. To reflect on my favorite memories in this journey so far:

Aravyn chickening out of lying to an evil mirror, Astarion shoving her aside to show her how its done, only to fail so spectacularly on every single conversation check the mirror spits out a giant orb of molten death that starts chasing us around the room spewing deadly AOEs as I loudly scream “OH NO OH NO OH NO OH NO WHY CANT WE TARGET IT OH NO” and the entire party flees for their life, nearly locking Astarion in the cellar with the death orb he summoned

Gale nearly dying from a concussion because I decided to put off taking a long rest and instead do a little lute concert tour around the Druid Grove, and one NPC loved it so much he enthusiastically hurled his tip of a single gold piece in the direction of my singing paladin — and straight into Gale’s skull and taking off 6 of his precious few remaining HP

My dumbass Paladin talking to Minthara, and winning every single persuasion check, so that she entered into a conversation to very earnestly insist that this random forest is where the secret Druid Grove is, and have Minthara scream in frustration that they already checked there and to go FIND IT, only for us to return five seconds later and say that we totes got the real location this time and point to the same spot on the map. About five time in a row.

Halsin getting the whole party stuck in eternal combat for no other reason than he was a bear, and apparently the game took that personally

That time Astarion gleefully informed Aravyn she was unfuckable, only for a full 24 hours later to decide that he was actually jealous that she considered Gale prettier than him (but also approved of this??), and basically yelled out “CHALLENGE ACCEPTED” before flouncing off

The entirety of the Auntie Ethel adventure freaking me (the player) out so much I, the notorious loot goblin, refused to touch ANY food or beverage in the entire cursed swamp even after finishing all of the quests and clearing the area

Nearly blowing up a dwarf trapped in a field of flammable mushrooms, and somehow both he and the valuable quest item miraculously survived. Only for my dumbass Paladin to eat the quest item mid-battle for no reason at all, and me not realizing until twenty hours of gameplay in that I’ve doomed the dwarf and his unpleasant wife to a life of destitution and also preventing one of my companions from regaining precious lost memories.

Getting a TPK several times in a row from the giant landshark in the Underdark, before finally beating it with actual tactical smarts. Only to revive it with a temporary NPC ally as a spawn so it could help us in fights because we are smart and tactical now. And then forgetting to dismiss it after the temporary NPC ally turned against us, only to return to the same area several hours later where we once again nearly died to the now undead manifestation of our hubris
