i do fully believe that while spike, especially post-soul and post-buffy and all that, has come on board with like, human rights in general and that while he remains Kind Of An Asshole he's not and hasn't been particularly a bigoted person, he doesnt really understand animal rights. he likes some animals and doesn't especially want to see them suffer and will even try to prevent their suffering. but his attitude towards even beloved pets is always like. who cares if they die you can always buy a new one. like it's an animal. there's a million more like it. it can't even talk. why are we wasting money feeding it
