Rukia Kuchiki hates Ichigo Kurosaki on principle. Ever since the boy moved in with his family in the neighbouring ranch to Kuchiki Ranch, he has been nothing but vile to her. He tormented her during her childhood years, calling her names and taunting her with pranks. Now that she is older, Rukia has put it all behind her, determined to have nothing to do with her childhood bully. Yet, when her brother unexpectedly passes away from an accident, Rukia finds herself in need of a husband to retain her rights to the Kuchiki Ranch. There is nothing that Rukia will not do to save the ranch from falling into the hands of her nasty relatives, even if it means marrying someone like Kurosaki. Ichigo, on the other hand, just wants a chance to say sorry for being an ass. He has done a lot of growing up over the years and wants to make it up to Rukia for all the stupid things he’s said and done in the past. He jumps at the chance, desperate to make amends. After all, it is only for a marriage in name and they will only be married for a year, but living in close quarters does strange things to the mind. He cannot help but wonder: could it be that he has fallen for the Ice Queen?

The experience is like shoving my hand into a bucket full of feathers and nails.

Sometimes I get the soft, fluffy grace of feathers (i.e. a cute IR post), and other times I get a handful of nails that turns my hand into a bloody pincushion (aka yet another IR anti stirring up shit and name calling the IR community).

Tumblr is a garbage heap too, but at least I have a better experience searching through tags and can block key words or phrases easier. Twitter just throws you to the wolves, like good luck bitch; have fun suffering ig.

A similar thing happened to me when I watched the movie awhile back lol.

My mom only caught the tail end of the movie, during the fight with Ichigo and Renji, then Byakuya, and she has zero knowledge of the series and characters.

It was the scene where Ichigo gets thrown into the car and Rukia rushes over to him. My mom, with her ever-so-perfectly timed commentary asks:

"Does she like him?"

And in typical shipper fashion I grinned and replied, "Yes!"

Then my brother told me (jokingly) to shut up and stop lying and I continued with a, "They're in love!~" and went on to explain how their lives are intertwined.

It's always funny to me how even outsiders unfamiliar with the series are able to pick up on their deep bond.

so i was watching bleach live action movie. my aunt was also in my house and she joined me in watching the movie. here’s an interesting conversation after the movie ended. note that my aunt knows nothing about bleach plot or its characters. only heard of the series.

aunt: wait, so the story’s over or what?

me: no, ichigo went into soul society in the manga. to rescue rukia.

aunt: oh, how is it then? is bleach still ongoing or…?

me: no it’s already finished.

aunt: so, how it ended?

me: so and so… oh and ichigo didn’t end up with rukia *sighs*

aunt: what? huh? but they seemed like they have something going on…

me: i know, right *cries*

kudos to sota & hana for their ichiruki, their chemistry is good even my aunt can feel something between them in a 2 hour movie.

I was on Pinterest searching for IchiRuki references when I found the panel that Ichigo's supposed to holding Rukia by the waist but it was edited with Orihime's face and body over Rukia to make it look like an IchiHime moment to parallel Isshin and Masaki LMFAO. And it bewilders me that IchiHime shippers look at the original IchiRuki panel and moan, “Ichigo literally threw Rukia to Renji, so he wasn't carrying/holding her!” and then they edit this panel and several others for their agenda...the sheer hypocrisy!

Not surprised 😒. They edit official IchiRuki art & panels to fit their ship, as well as use IchiRuki quotes, symbolisms, & parallels, only to then have the audacity to claim IchiRuki is platonic 💀. Some of them also use IR official art as templates for their other ships but still deny IR has any romantic connotations (boy, I witnessed such drama with another ship of mine from a different fandom once. Someone drew that ship posing as IR in the Vol. 74 cover, even giving it the Death & the Strawberry title—tbh, that title amusingly fits that ship as well—& a bunch of ppl who ship both pairings praised the art & stuff.

However, that person then clarified they will NEVER ship IR & that their art wasn't supposed to reflect such a thing, as they're an IH fan 💀. This sparked a bit of drama between that certain ship's fandom & IR, which I was sad to see 😞...)

Like...? So why use IR content for your ship? Make up your minds. IH's wanna be IchiRuki so bad... 🤷‍♀️

☾ For the IchiRuki Archive ☀ -> Deathberry.com: a website that ran for a few years (approximately 2012 to 2017) & served as a forum for ichiruki fans to discuss and chat with each other, both about IR as well as other topics/manga. The first two images are what the site looked like, the first version and then updated. The last one was my signature. They had a very fun option for users to submit their favorite bleach chapter, quote, and image and have it turned into a stamp you can use in your signature. The top left corner was your favored chapter, top right is your favorite quote, bottom left was the Deathberry logo, and bottom right was your username (mine was Mira-hime), as well as your birthday (04/21) and your number. I was user 160. ♡♡

This might end up a little long but bear with me:

So the story goes back to the times when the manga was still in progress and an ongoing work. Ichiruki was a fandom favorite ship with a majority of readers and watchers shipping the pairing. Because of the overwhelming number of IR shippers, the discourse was dominated by us and pretty much everyone was convinced that if Bleach had endgames, IR was IT. The pairing even had a dedicated separate forum website that was very popular among the fan base and it was used for other bleach related topics to discuss as well. These two was favored by studio pierrot executives as well, that created many IR scenes that fueled the love for the pairing in the fandom. Ichihime did have some following, but nowhere close to what IR was, hence most of the times they ended up dominated by the rest of the fandom that believed it had no future. Hell, during the Hueco Mundo arc, even Ulquihime had more following and love in the fandom than IH.

Then one day, the final chapter releases and lo and behold, to many fans' suprise IR isn't the endgame. We ended up with pairing that had far less following and hype around than Ichiruki ever did. That caused a huge uproar in the bleach fandom - many readers that loved IR left the fandom, the forum got closed and some Japanese fans, unfortunately sent Kubo death threats. All in all, what you see today of active Bleach fandom, are IH shippers that still till this day hate IR shippers and IR (I mean, why the hell would I be bothered with a noncanon pairing, my pairing is literally canon and living happily ever after. But whatever....) and so called canon warriors who think liking anything that isn't remotely canon is a big sin.

So yeah, unfortunately today Bleach fandom is not a safe place for people to like IR and I say this with a huge sadness, as someone who was active years ago, shipped the pairing and absolutely enjoyed the discourse and beautiful fan content it generated. Why does IR look/sound so threatening to these people? I'm not gonna answer that, their behavior and aggression towards it speaks for itself. The rest is just trivialities.

ok as someone who's quite a casual bleach enjoyer (i've only seen the anime, haven't read the manga), i had no idea ichiruki was so hated 😭 i posted an edit on tiktok and people are Not happy. anyone know why?

See, as multishipper, most that I found are either gay & lesbian ships only or het ships (like the one who said the above) only, but you really saw the dynamics a d chemistries of the characters. That is why I love your top 30 ships post.

Like, at first I thought you'll ship IzuOcha (like most people who love het ship) in BNHA but you ship BakuDeku (amazing) or IchiOri (bland) in Bleach but you ship IchiRuki (great) which both (later) ships have the best dynamics in the series (more than the former ships)..!

Sorry, I'm not really a fan of most m/f ships (it's easier for me to love m/m & f/f compared to m/f) but the ones that you love are all great!

I'm sorry you discovered my blog due to such a distasteful comment, but I'm glad to have encountered someone with such great tastes in ships. I rarely manage to encounter someone who likes so many ships that I do. Oddly enough, I haven't managed to find that specific comment, so it's likely that person blocked or subsequently deleted their comment without giving me the chance to respond... Oh well...It's not the first time I've gotten criticised for my tastes in ships, and unfortunately, it definitely won't be the last...

Moving on, I'm glad you enjoyed the Hanakotoba metas! They're my favourite types of posts to make, even though they're the most time-consuming. Unfortunately, I probably won't be making another one for a while since I haven't encountered any material to work with in the shows I've seen recently. Here's to hoping The Apothecary Diaries S2 gives me something to work with... But if anyone has any suggestions, I'm keen.

Most people are very rigid about their tastes in ships. Admittedly, I used to be, too, but over time, I've become more open-minded and contemplative—though I still have a long way to go. When it comes to shipping, I prioritise development, character dynamics, and aesthetics in that order. Gender and official status (i.e., canon or non-canon) are unimportant to me.

This is honestly the first time I've seen someone else who ships IchiRuki and BakuDeku... Honestly, I'm so happy! IchiOri/IchiHime is literally the bane of my existence. I could write a full-length essay on what I ship IchiRuki and dislike IchiOri/IchiHime. These days it's especially difficult being an IchiRuki shipper, as we receive nasty comments on most Ichigo/Rukia-centric posts and edits. Just because another ship was made canon doesn't mean you're not allowed to ship anything else. The great thing about fandom spaces is that there is a place for everyone—so I don't know why they can't let us be.

As for IzuOcha, it just lacks the development and depth that BakuDeku and a lot of other BNHA ships have, and consequently, it seems bland in comparison. BakuDeku was actually the very first M/M ship I supported—so I have a lot of attachment to them—and it becoming such a beloved ship has made me immensely grateful and happy. Inexorably, the brighter light shines, the more shadows it casts... As its popularity has increased, the ship garnered more detractors, making things more difficult recently. Seeing people condemn and degrade BakuDeku shippers because of recent events is incredibly hurtful.

The double standards I've seen from some of the people who disapprove of non-canon ships like BakuDeku and IchiRuki are insane. These same people who disapprove of the age gap between IchiRuki will happily use Isshin/Masaki's dynamic to bolster IchiOri or will go on to ship other couples with age gaps like Inuyasha/Kagome. These same people who use Bakugo and Deku's or Ichigo and Rukia's friendship as a reason not to ship them then go on and fawn over the friends-to-lovers trope elsewhere. Perhaps I've ranted a little too much... However, I didn't intend to insult anyone; I was merely trying to point out things that didn't add up. If anybody here doesn't ship BakuDeku or IchiRuki but is respectful towards their shippers (i.e., refrains from antagonising them unjustly) and can recognise the basis for both ships, please know that my irritation isn't directed at you.

I probably mentioned this already, but you have great tastes in ships. Just a few things I wanted to note as I went through your list and comments... ❉ You're right Hualian truly has the greatest love story ever!

❉ Wei Wuxian is in my top 10 favourite characters too! Each member of the MXTX protagonist trio is so well written tbh.

❉ Akatsuki no Yona is my favourite shoujo manga. I'd love them to animate the rest of it. I'd ascend if we got a Fruits Basket-like remake!

❉ Coincidentally, I also started shipping BakuDeku in 2019, which is when I started BNHA.

❉ As for the ObiYuki vs. ZenYuki debacle... My heart is torn in two, which is why I haven't read the manga yet. I started the show and shipped ZenYuki, but over time I started drifting towards Obi instead. ZenYuki is a solid ship, but ObiYuki really packs in all of my favourite tropes. So, I ultimately included both ships, knowing that both sides of the fandom might not be pleased with me. I've never been an OT3 person, but I feel like that might be the direction I'm heading towards...

❉ Regarding Taichi/Chihaya I actually have a funny story concerning them... As I was bingeing S3, I saw some spoilers, which led me to believe they weren't canon, which upset me so much that I refused to finish the anime—whereas, before this, I'd been planning to start the manga immediately. After a few months, I realised I'd been misguided, and they were in fact canon! I subsequently finished the anime but haven't gotten around to the manga yet.

❉ I'm never going to get over the ending of Bleach. Before the TYBW arc, all the development and symbolism pointed towards IchiRuki becoming the endgame... The switch-up was insane!

I've been trying out a lot of new anime recently. I actually only started watching new anime seasonally from the first episode a year ago, so keeping up with 12 anime this season has been challenging. ❉ I'm currently watching Nina: The Starry Bride as it airs. Since I heard good things about it from manga readers and had been itching for a fantasy shoujo anime for a while now, I checked it out as soon as the first episode dropped. It's definitely been a journey, and I'm still formulating my thoughts about it... In all honesty, the first episode was lowkey disappointing—but I think that's because my expectations were too high. I feel like it lacked the drama and intrigue that Akatsuki no Yona's first episode had—which was what people had compared it to. However, 8 episodes deep, and I'm really enticed! I really look forward to it every week and am excited to see where the story goes! Are you rooting for Azure or Sett?

❉ I'm also currently watching Yakuza Fiancee. The show really shook me to my core. Like damn, these people are crazy! It's really entertaining though, and for once I have no idea where the story is headed since the show is so unpredictable to me. However, I'm not sure I can commit to shipping Yoshino with Kirishima yet. I kind of want her to stick to her plan of up and leaving in a year... But we'll see...

❉ I watched Cherry Magic as it aired as well. It was pretty funny and sweet—but sadly, for some reason, I didn't really form a solid attachment to any of the characters... It's possibly because at the time other shows gripped me more, but I can't say for certain. I might revisit it again sometime when I'm under less stress. ❉ Lastly, I haven't seen I'm in Love With The Villainess...

IR / IH related thoughts (ship & shipper)

People who actively participate in IR/IH discourse aren't welcome, I'm just blabbering because this is my blog and I do what I want. If you're offended over ships that's your problem not mine

it feels like some Ichiruki fans dumb down their relationship to just being a romance. like it's always been beyond a romance, more than a romance, deeper than a romance, and not intended to be a romance. but you're not inherently wrong to see it as such, but it's more than just "they're in love." it's always been more than that. they're soulmates for sure, but that doesn't always quantify as romance and it doesn't have to be. even if they don't fuck their relationship runs deeper than water

There's one problem with Ichihime -- one, and it's a glaring one. Kubo's a misogynist, so he fumbled the bag on Orihime's character. Orihime and Ichihime do have a lot going for them -- The problem is that Kubo just decided to forget why Orihime was so important because he wanted to remind you that she has large boobs, in case y'all forgot.

The ending is abrupt and boring but of course people only rage about it because it didn't have the ship they wanted?? Like there's actual problems with it, with Kubo, and the line you draw is "Ichigo didn't fuck Rukia"??? like I think they're cute and all but that's not the problem here.

Both sides of the ship war are toxic, okay? Can a certain section of IH fans accept that people can like something that doesn't 100% adhere to canon? Like if you hate non canon ships there's literally no point of shipping. you don't have to send death threats over a goddamn manga. Are y'all allergic to fun? And can a certain section of IR fans accept that you can dislike a character or a ship without making it sexist? Like you don't gotta like Orihime but calling her the R slur is super not okay my guy

only semi related but -- shipping Kazui x Ichika outside of the context of A.) A human AU or B.) A puppy love crush that doesn't blossom into anything else that fades away over time is lowk weird. they're gonna stop aging at the same rate by the time they're like 10. then ichikas gonna stay 10 for like 60 years or something. but kazui's probably gonna age like a person so that relationship cannot last.

And no, the same logic that justifies Ichiruki doesn't justify Kazui x Ichika. Cause they were born at the same time. Rukia is 10x older than Ichigo at the start of the story but they're both a similar age in terms of appearance and maturity. So it's not the same with them
