Rick Majerus
Physique: Heavyset Build Height: 6'1"
Richard Raymond Majerus (February 17, 1948 – December 1, 2012; aged 64) was an American basketball coach and TV analyst. He coached at Marquette University (1983–1986), Ball State University (1987–1989), the University of Utah (1989–2004), and Saint Louis University (2007–2012). Majerus's most successful season came at Utah in the 1997–98 season, when the Utes finished as runners-up in the 1998 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. Majerus was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019.
Majerus was a fan favorite and cult figure around college basketball, known for his portly, rotund figure and his quirky, jovial personality. The portly coach was unabashed in his love of food, always quick with a restaurant recommendation for whatever town his teams were playing in. He enjoyed bratwurst, a sausage popular in his native Wisconsin which is fitting as I would have loved to feed him my love sausage.
Born in Sheboygan, Wis., Majerus graduated from Marquette University High School in 1967, attending Marquette University. After graduating from Marquette in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in history, Majerus was hired by McGuire as a full-time assistant in 1971. After three years as head coach at Marquette, he became an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks for the 1986–87 season. After a stint at Ball State University for two seasons, Majerus accepted the position at Utah in 1989, leading the "Runnin Utes" to a 1996 sweet 16. Majerus worked as a game and studio analyst for ESPN from 2004 to 2007 before accepting the head coaching position at Saint Louis University.
Majerus, married once for two years in the mid-1980s, childless and dated the same woman the last 25 years of his life, famously lived in a Marriott hotel near the University of Utah campus; everyone knew where to find him. Majerus has been in a state of health risk for many years before dying of heart failure in a Los Angeles hospital on December 1, 2012. From what I can tell, he was a jovial, crude, basketball-obsessed coach who had nice tits, packing something big and didn’t mind being nude around people. Sounds like my type of guy.
Head Coaching Record Overall: 517–215 Tournaments: 19–12 (NCAA Division I) 8–4 (NIT) 3–1 (CBI)
Accomplishments and Honors Championships NCAA Regional—Final Four (1998) MAC regular season (1989) MAC tournament (1989) 6 WAC regular season (1991, 1993, 1995–1997, 1999) 3 WAC tournament (1995, 1997, 1999) 2 MWC regular season (2000, 2003)

Milestone Monday
Impeachment Redux
On this day, January 13, 2021, Donald Trump was impeached for a second time, facing a charge of incitement of insurrection in connection with the attack on the United States Capitol that occurred just a week earlier on January 6. Trump’s second impeachment was unprecedented in U.S. history. He became the first president to be impeached twice. While the event was historically significant, it also became the subject of pointed commentary and criticism.
Following the impeachment, the House of Representatives gathered to discuss and vote on the articles of impeachment, which saw a significant number of bipartisan votes. A group of ten Republicans broke ranks to support the impeachment, highlighting a rift within the GOP over Trump's behavior and influence. The Senate trial that followed included intense debates and emotional testimonies, focusing on the implications of the Capitol riot and the dangers of political violence. Ultimately, Trump was acquitted by the Senate, not reaching the two-thirds majority required for a conviction. The aftermath of the impeachment led to widespread discussions about accountability, the state of democracy in the United States, and the responsibility of leaders to uphold the Constitution.
To observe this occasion, we included images from:
Bury My Heart at Chuck E. Cheese’s (University of Nebraska Press, 2019) by Tiffany Midge, a Native American poet, editor, and author. The book includes a foreword by Geary Hobson, a scholar, editor, and writer of fiction and poetry. The featured poem is titled Ars Poetica by Donald Trump.
Twitter FEED (Grand Climacteric Publishing, 2017) by Barbara Ciurej and Lindsay Lochman. The work is “a compilation of Tweets excerpted from the Twitter account of a rogue White House Senior Advisor (@RogueSNRadvisor) chronicling Donald Trump’s fast-food binges in response to the stresses of his first presidency.”
Masquerades & Misdemeanors [Hartford Avenue Poets] (Pebblebrook Press), 2013, a collection of poems by Milwaukee area poets. The poem featured is Donald Trump Sr. by Mark Zimmermann. He serves on the Wisconsin Poet Laureate Commission and is a member of the Hartford Avenue Poets.

Wally Clark's Pre-Exuent Headcanons
He preferred baseball to football. Not that he dreamed of being a pro athlete after graduation. But if you asked him which he'd want to play more, he'd always choose baseball over football. Fewer risks of getting tackled to death...
He learned to drive when he was 10. His grandfather taught him. Mostly to get the kid to focus his energy on something. Wally had a lot of energy. His grandfather would take Wally to work with him on weekends and school breaks. Taught Wally how to fix things and how to operate a tractor mower. He died 4 years after the '83 homecoming game.
One summer, Wally and his bff Jerry worked at the youth center as day camp counselors. Another, he was a bus boy at Donna's mom's restaurant in midtown. Then he worked for the local mechanic, Bud Binns. His last summer alive, Wally worked as a gravedigger in the church cemetery.
Wally wanted to be a mechanic. Wanted to travel across the States and work where he was able. Had the whole thing planned with his buddy Rodney. Post-grad road trip. Wally would make money fixing things when they needed the cash, and Rodney would work as a dishwasher in whatever diner would hire him. It was going to be awesome.
He never applied to college or university. Kept procrastinating. Felt that it wasn't really for him. Besides, if his mama had her way (which she usually did), he'd be scouted and it wouldn't matter anyway, so what was the point?
He lost his virginity to Lisa Jenkins when he was 16. In the back of his dad's pickup at the drive-in. It was embarrassing and awkward and kind of funny and he wouldn't change a thing.
Wally was a B student. He excelled in math and science. Was decent enough in English to understand a metaphor. Was naturally talented in phys-ed. He hated history. He took Spanish and French. He fucking slayed home economics.
In his free time, Wally learned to play guitar (because it was cool) and drums (because it was gnarly) and harmonica (because it annoyed the shit out of Jenny McKinnon and she was cute when she got mad).
He rode his bike everywhere he couldn't drive and drove out of town regularly to check out events in Milwaukee: Bands. Food festivals. Themed discos. Comedy shows.
He had a busy social calendar, but always made time for his grandma, spent time with his mama, and went camping with his dad when the weather was nice.
Wally knew he was going to die before he turned 21.

The State with the Black Stain
—————————————
A horror-mystery fic
~Warnings~
Mentions of violence, scopophobia, uncanny valley, true crime, sexual content
—————————————
Your alarm goes off at 6:30am. You really don’t want to go to work, though it’s all you have to look forward to for the day. That is, if you want to keep food on the table. Your job, a 9-5 at a VHS store in Milwaukee Wisconsin. You had been working there for a couple of years now. It didn’t pay much, but that doesn’t matter when you live alone.
It wasn’t that difficult of a job, either; Restock the shelves, work the register, know the genres of movies, and where to find them. Check in on time and clock out appropriately. There wasn’t much to hate about it, but you did hate how late you’d get out sometimes. You didn’t live too far away, but you didn’t live in the nicest part of your neighborhood, so being out late at night made you nervous.
A lot of times you wouldn’t be doing any work at all, so you’d read the newspaper. What else were you supposed to do? After a while of reading, you started to notice that the headlines all had the same focus: disappearances.
Was there any explanation for all of the disappearances? No. All that law enforcement knew was that 17 had gone missing so far without any indication of where they could’ve gone. You wondered how that could happen in such a small town. But, it can happen anywhere, right?
It was slightly disturbing to hear about all those disappearances and made your nightly trips back home even worse than they were before. Eventually, though, your mind wandered elsewhere and was able to forget about it.
That was, until a particular customer gave rise to the notion all over again. In the worst way possible.
“will that be all, sir? Just this film right here?”
“Yeah that’s it. I have a coupon for it Lemme get it.”
The man dug through his pockets as he looked for the coupon, “Oh, by the way, have you heard about the disappearances lately?”
Oh boy. Here we go.
“Y-yes I have. Why?”
“Well you remember that guy that died all those years ago? I can’t remember his name. All I know is that…” he leaned in closer to you, “People think he’s still alive. You know, the Milwaukee Monster.”
The name sounded familiar to you.
“Oh yeah- uh… W-wasn’t he a cannibal, too?”
“Mhm.” The man said, “He killed a bunch of black men around here… They took down the apartment building, but I don’t trust it. Mm-Mm. Not for a second. This state has a bad mark on it…”
You shut your eyes tightly remembering what happened 30 years ago. His face was still plastered in your memory. “Have a good day, sir…”
That memory was enough to set your paranoia into full swing. That man was one of the worst serial killers in American History. Sure, he was dead, but that didn’t mean that Milwaukee was over the tragedy.
Instead of trying to forget about everything, you decided to do some digging to jog your memory. You remembered having an old box full of old newspapers and magazines in your house. Eventually you found what you were looking for; an old newspaper with the headline: Cannibal-killer: Jeffrey Dahmer confessed to 17 murders.
The name made your stomach churn. Amidst your nausea, however, you made the shocking connection that the number of disappearances lately had directly matched up with the number of the monster’s victims;
17.
Just as you made the horrible realization that something wasn’t right, your radio began to play on its own.
‘Babe, I love you so.’
The radio sang as you stormed over to shut it off,
‘I want you to know, that I am gonna miss your love, the minute you walk out that door.’
“This isn’t fucking funny…”
‘So please don’t go-‘
You shut the radio off. The song name showed on the display, ‘Please don’t go, by: KC & The Sunshine Band.’
“Goddammit. How am I supposed to get any sleep now?” You thought, heading to bed. Surprisingly, you were able to fall asleep. Not without conflict from your mind, of course.
No one could’ve been playing tricks on you. You lived alone. And why would they? You were a young man that worked at a VHS store who wasted half their money on buying cigarettes. That’s about as generic as you can get. Hiding in plain sight.
Your last customer of the night walked up to the register.
“Just this, please.”
The man handed you a copy of the movie ‘The Exorcist III.’ You cocked a brow at the title as you scanned it, knowing how gruesome it was.
“That’ll be ten…”
Something caught your eye.
“T-ten ninety nine…”
Your eyes were glued to what appeared to be a man’s face, staring at you from behind one of the shelves. A white face.
“Is something wrong?” The customer asked.
“N-no I just… it’s nothing.”
When you were done scanning the movie’s barcode, you slipped it into a bag and handed it to the man, to which he left.
Something told you that you needed to get the hell out of that store. So, you did. You went straight home and didn’t look back.
‘What the hell even was that?’ You thought, ‘Maybe that bastard’s ghost is running around here still. I know what I saw wasn’t a fucking person.’
You lock your doors and windows out of paranoia and try to head to bed. That is, until your radio plays again. The same damn song as the night before.
Now you really know something is fucking with you. You get up to go shut the radio off,
“Alright, where are you, shithead? Get the fuck out of my house! You’re not welcome here!”
The radio plays again and you continue to shut it off every time it turns back on. At this point you were completely defeated and terrified, but you didn’t want to leave. Inside there was better than out on the street. You slid down the wall of your living room and covered your face, about to cry.
Between your fingers and your tear-blurred vision, you see him. The white face you saw earlier, standing in the doorway, his eyes peering down at you.
“Fuck!” You yell and cover your face, shutting your eyes quickly.
As you do so, you hear footsteps getting closer to you.
‘I’m so dead I’m so dead I’m so dead’ your thoughts ran amuck. After a while there wasn’t any response. So you uncovered your eyes.
Big mistake.
There he was, standing right in front of you. Jeffrey Dahmer. His ghost, rather. You wondered how he could look so real, despite being dead.
“Wh-what the fuck do you want?” You squeaked out.
The man grinned, a sharp-toothed smile stretching across his face, “You.”
To be continued…

Nick Visser at HuffPost:
Former President Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 charges in his hush money trial on Thursday after a jury of 12 New Yorkers unanimously agreed he had falsified business records to cover up allegations of a sexual encounter with porn star Stormy Daniels. The verdict makes Trump the first president in U.S. history to be declared a felon, which is historic on its own but is also unprecedented as he is currently running for reelection as the presumptive Republican nominee. Judge Juan Merchan of the New York state Supreme Court set a sentencing hearing for July 11, just four days before the Republican National Convention begins. So what’s next for Trump and the GOP?
Will Trump go to jail before the convention?
Trump’s sentencing is set for July 11, just four days before Republicans are set to convene in Milwaukee to select the party’s nominee for president. All 34 charges are Class E felonies, the lowest class in New York, and are each punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 and up to four years in prison. Judge Juan Merchan will decide what punishment to impose and will take Trump’s history into account. That could work in his favor as he has not been convicted of a crime before. Options besides jail include probation or a fine. And those punishments could be delayed until the former president has exhausted all of his appeals, a lengthy process that could end up at the Supreme Court.
[...]
Can he still run for president?
Yes. There are only a few requirements to be eligible for president ― to be at least 35 and a natural-born citizen and to have lived in the United States at least 14 years. A criminal record does not preclude candidacy on a federal level.
Can Trump even vote in November?
He will most likely be able to cast a ballot, but it could depend on his sentence. Trump is a resident of Florida, which restricts the voting rights of anyone convicted of a felony until they complete their full sentence, including parole or probation, and pay off any fines or fees. But the state defers to the jurisdiction where a person was convicted to determine their eligibility, according to Election Law Blog. “A felony conviction in another state makes a person ineligible to vote in Florida only if the conviction would make the person ineligible to vote in the state where the person was convicted,” Florida’s Department of State writes on its website.
[...]
If he does face jail time, where would Trump serve it?
It’s another complicated question and one that has never been dealt with before. If Trump is forced to serve time behind bars, a Secret Service detail would have to go with him. The agency has already been game-planning for what that would look like, but keeping the former president safe in New York’s notorious penal system presents a fierce challenge: The New York Times notes he would need to be kept from other inmates and have his food and personal items screened for safety. He could be held in a facility that has been closed or is partially empty so he and his protective detail could be housed safely. For normal defendants, a sentence of less than a year is often served on Rikers Island, while those longer would be served at one of the 44 prisons run by the state’s Department of Corrections.
July 11th will be 34x Convicted Felon Donald Trump’s sentencing date, just a few days before the RNC is set to begin.

starting a new tag on the blog for world development in saints row. So, I'm redesigning both Stilwater and Steelport to better fit my fanverse (aka BriDomverse) and bring them to a more realistic front. So I rolled a number generator to see which area to tackle first and I got Magarac Island, here's some lore and notes I have to kinda give a scope to how things in the tag will work.
------------
Magarac Island Description
Welcome to Magarac Island, an icon of Steelport's industrial history. At its core stands the magnificent Magarac Statue, a towering tribute to the famed steelworker, Joe Steel. Shaped like a radiant star, the island unfolds its points like spokes, with the colossal statue taking center stage. Explore the Magarac Statue Museum to unravel the riveting history of Joe Steel and the city's industrial saga during his era. Surrounding the island are gift shops offering steel-themed souvenirs, while the Magarac Statue's Ladle Cafe invites you to savor Steelport delicacies inspired by the city's signature craftsmanship. Enjoy a lovely view of Steelport's skyline from Steel Plaza, and pay respects to those who propelled the city into prosperity at the Joe Steel Memorial, commemorating the enduring legacy of generations of steelworkers. (Magarac Island is currently closed to the public due to extensive renovations)
------------
General Notes
I personally found it odd for homeless people to find refuge on a national landmark with no real access to food/shelter etc.
I wanted to keep it under renovation during the events of the game so there's not much to change on that front.
Liberty Island was clear inspiration for the locations on the island.
Even though the city benefits heavily from sex tourism, gambling, and overall more adult forms of entertainment, there's no reason for it to lack regular tourism through landmarks, monuments, and general things to do
I'm also headcanoning it as a much bigger city than Stilwater, using Chicago's size for reference while Stilwater is more like Milwaukee, IL or Cleveland, OH.

Evicted, A Book Review
Has a book ever made you so uncomfortable that you wound up reading faster? Because I read this book in about a week (last year I read 14 books. I'm not one of those Booktok people that reads 5 thousand-page novels a month).
Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond is a non-fiction book published in 2016 about the affordable housing crisis. More specifically, it examines the lives of several poor families living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and tells their stories. This book examines how and why people become trapped in cycles of poverty and what constant eviction does to people physically, financially, and psychologically. It also suggests ways our wellfare system could be overhauled to alleviate this.
Time, care, and empathy was put into this research. Desmond made an effort to look at both white and Black families during his project, analyzing the racial discrimination and segregation that is still very much a part of everyday American life. The families in these stories had problems such as drug addictions, criminal records, and a history of poor choices (you know, the kinds of things Fox News likes to rant about), but still portrays them in a sympathetic light. There is one person in this book, Crystal, who was prone to erupting into fits of violence when under exreme stress due to a history of severe childhood trauma. She hurt people, but I still came away from this book firmly believing that she deserved a roof over her head.
One of the chapters that really sticks out in my mind is titled "Lobster on Food Stamps." It tells the story of a poor woman in a trailer park who spent her entire monthly allotment of food stamps on a single, indulgent seafood dinner for one. Stories like this are a very common talking point for political pundits that like to demonize poor people. But Evicted uses this woman's story to explain why this happens: when you are extremely poor, it is next to impossible to dig yourself out no matter how much you save and what choices you make. There is no way out. Genuinely. Indulging will make the pain go away, at least for today. It is, ultimately, a very human choice.
Evicted is a difficult read, emotionally. Every time I sat down to read this thing it was always "Oh, great, Arleen's getting kicked out of another place for some bullshit reason." This isn't a fun book, but it's important. I've also heard good things about Desmond's followup Poverty, by America.
Now, nonfiction can't be spoiled, so let me end this review with the last line of the book:
"No moral code or ethical principal, no piece of scripture or holy teaching, can be summoned to defend what we have allowed our country to become."

478. 93 things about 1993, part 4
(part 3)
(source)
18. ValuJet flies for the first time (October 26)
ValuJet's first flight was from Atlanta to Tampa on October 26, 1993. By 1994, the planes with their silly mascot on them had made 15 emergency landings! 1 On June 8, 1995 one of their ancient planes had an engine fire on the tarmac in Atlanta.
We all know what happened to ValuJet just 2 1/2 years later.
19. Kenneth Junior French kills 4 because of "gays in the military". (August 7th)
He got four life terms + an extra 35 years tacked onto his sentence.
Newsweek, February 8, 1993
20. Socks Mania
People went absolutely feral over Bill Clinton's cat, Socks. There was merch:
Such as this Socks cat food container (eBay seller passalong)
This Socks watch that I still remember seeing at my local Kmart in 1996. Yes, the battery was dead. (eBay seller ha-340226)
This socks doll I also remember seeing at Kmart on a family vacation in Ohio that I desperately wanted. (eBay seller 13navybeans)
I don't have the date on it, but here is a clip of kids petting Socks at Christmas.
21. Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett get married (June)
When Roberts returned to the set of The Pelican Brief following her wedding, the cast and crew (including co-star Denzel Washington) threw her a party in which they all wore shirts that read: "He’s A Lovely Boy … But You Really Must Do Something About His Hair" on the back. 2
They only lasted til 1995, but they were cute together.
22. Base Closings (March)
Growing up, I thought this was the first time bases closed in the U.S., ever. No, a whole bunch closed just a couple of years prior!
(source)
23. Florida tourists killed
The state government ordered that all company logos be removed from rental cars, and it abolished special license tags for such vehicles. Rental car agencies now give customers detailed safety brochures in English, Spanish, German and other languages, and they play tape recordings with similar messages over the public address systems in their rental offices every five minutes. 3
There was even a bit in the SNL episode (hosted by Shannen Doherty) where Phil Hartman played Disney's Michael Eisner, alerting tourists that you'll won't get murdered in northern Florida where Disney is:
Hi, I’m Michael Eisner, speaking to you from the Magic Kingdom here in Orlando. You know, for the last few months, Florida has been victim to a terrible tragedy: the horrific murder of nine foreign tourists in Southern Florida. We here in Northern Florida express our sympathies.. to the families of those murdered hundreds of miles away.. in Miami, the capitol of Southern Florida.
8 tourists were killed in 1993. 4
24. Miller Clear
Faced with lackluster sales, the Miller Brewing Company has ended its market test of Miller Clear, the brewing industry's first clear beer. "We're not manufacturing it any longer for the near term," Eric Kraus, a spokesman for the Milwaukee-based brewer, said on Tuesday. "We had a tremendous initial trial, but repeat business was not necessarily as good." The beer that has been made will be sold, but no more will be brewed, Mr. Kraus said. In April, Miller began test-marketing its clear beer in Richmond, Minneapolis and Austin, Tex. 4
(there's some more about it on Weird Universe)
25. Tonya Harding's dress pops (January)
Earlier this year, a snap on her costume broke at the United States championships. At the 1992 Olympic trials, her blades were mounted slightly out of position, leaving her stranded with a broken axel. Skate problems also delayed her arrival at the 1992 Winter Games in Albertville, France, where she finished a disappointing fourth. By 1993, fourth was the best she could do at the United States championships. 5

PERSONAL:
Full Name: Dylan Gregory Altomare Nickname: None Do they like their nickname?: He’d hate any nickname, to be fair. He and his brother were baptized as babies, due to pressure from his mom’s parents, and because his mom was a horror movie fanatic and didn’t want to risk her kids getting possessed, as has been explained to him. Pets: None, but he really wants a dog. Major: World History Minor: Education Current Occupation: Fighter at the Conclave, Bartender at the Trench Sexuality: Pansexual Relationship Status: Single Do they drive? What kind of car do they own?: Dylan and his brother saved up for a car they bought together, a maroon Jeep, but he surrendered his portion of ownership when he went to the Institute.
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE:
Height: 6′4 Body Type: Lean, still muscular Hair Color: Sandy brown Hair Type: Wavy Hair Style: Never gets longer than his jaw. Eye Color: They are 3/4 blue - he has sectoral heterochromia in his right eye, making half of it brown. Glasses/Contacts?: No, but he definitely needs them. He doesn’t have the best eyesight. Prominent Features: Very square features Scars: Dylan has a myriad of scars on his back, from belts when he was a teenager. A few on his shoulders as well. Tattoos: He has the initials “LC” under his left collarbone (Liam, his twin, has “DG” in the same spot), XI.II.MMXVI on his left wrist, a falling Icarus and angel on his right forearm, and a wilting rose on his right tricep. Piercings: None Health Problems or Conditions: None that he’s aware of Style: Very casual, typically choosing to go shirtless or just a jacket, or a tank top - he runs pretty warm, so the less the better - along with cut off jeans or basketball shorts. He never wears open-toed shoes. Notable Jewelry: None really. Grooming: He showers every day, shaves once or twice a week. That’s enough.
PAST:
Mother’s Name: Genevieve Mother’s Maiden Name: Altomare Status: Alive Relationship: Not the best - he really wants a relationship with her and tries a bit harder than his brother was, but she has a lot of her own problems that makes that sort of connection difficult. She’s not someone that should have ever been a mother. Father’s Name: Unknown Status: Unknown Relationship: As far as Dylan is aware, he has no father. Siblings: Liam is his twin. Dylan is four minutes older. They are mirror twins - the only way to tell them apart is that they present themselves very differently - Dylan’s rough around the edges where Liam is a bit of a hippie. What was their childhood like?: Dylan and Liam were best friends, thick as thieves. They did everything together as kids, playing at the park, the stairwells of the apartment they lived in, basically everywhere. It was tough at home, with TV dinners and cheap takeout - they had a lot of pizza and fast food when they were kids - because their mom didn’t make a lot of money and had a slight alcohol/drug problem she tried to hide. Rotating boyfriends that didn’t care so much for kids, and while Liam was polite, Dylan was always a bit difficult with them. Three times they were taken away into foster care, but never separated. It was never bad, just confusing and left them with some feelings of abandonment. Earliest Memory: Halloween, when he was 3 years old - Liam and Dylan were ketchup and mustard and Liam nearly choked on a peanut M&M. Happiest Memory: Getting reunited with his twin after being missing for seven years. Saddest Memory: Celebrating his twelfth birthday. Education: He didn’t go to middle or high school, not really - he did one year of middle school, then he went missing. But he did get his GED, it just took him a few months of studying for it. Past Jobs: Dylan’s had a lot of odd jobs - he worked at a pizza shop for awhile, he was involved in an underground fighting ring for money, betting for or against himself. He taught ballroom dancing for a long while, because it paid good and they’d just teach him the week before. Plus, it kept him in shape. He’s worked at breweries, been a bartender, bar back, waiter, he stocked overnight at grocery stores, he’s been a bouncer at local clubs, security at theaters. Police Record: Sort of - he definitely did a lot of stupid things that would have warranted likely serious jailtime - trespassing, vandalism, breaking and entering - but the detective who had his case when he was a missing child always helped him out and bailed him out of the serious stuff. He only has light vandalism charges. Major Past Trauma/Illness - Are they still affected?: Dylan spent seven years in the captivity of a man named Mack Jacobi, in a half-finished basement. He was tormented and assaulted for a long time and that has lingered with him for years after. He doesn’t ever bring it up, or at least really tries to avoid it - sometimes, when he’s really tired or really inebriated, he’ll talk about it, but that doesn’t often happen either. He’s very claustrophobic, he hates blindfolds, and flinches still at loud noises. As far as anyone is concerned, Dylan just has a “rough past” - he can’t completely come to terms with how that portion of his life turned out. The only reason he got out is by building trust and then being allowed to cook - with a gas stove. The proximity to the flame gave him the go ahead to light the house on fire, giving him an escape. Mack survived, while burned, but got life in prison with the possibility of parole. Knowing there’s a chance he could be out in Dylan’s lifetime gives him a lot of anxiety. He gets night terrors sometimes, has a very fast temper.
SEX & ROMANCE:
First crush: A girl in his third grade class who was new - he can’t remember her name, but he did kiss her in the playground in the second week of school. First sexual experience - Was it a good or bad one?: It was a bad one. As Dylan puts it, he wasn’t taken because the man wanted a young friend. Sexual Type: Dominant, sometimes Switch Turn Ons: Giving/Receiving Oral, Bondage, Sensory Play, Exhibitionism, Multiple Partners, Orgasm Control, Rough Sex, Choking, Marking/Biting, Turn Offs: Bathroom Play, Vore, Gore, Blindfolds Love Type: Dylan is a secret sweetheart. He doesn’t have a lot, but he’s big on gestures and is pretty touchy when he’s with someone - hand holding, dancing, kissing in public. But he can definitely be the jealous type. He’s a big flirt, but once he’s with someone and has that dedication, he is only theirs. Significant Past Relationships: He had a longtime girlfriend, Billie, who he knew since they were kids. They reconnected when they were older, but they were either in extreme highs or extreme lows. It was clear to everyone but themselves they weren’t right for each other, but those two didn’t want to admit it. They both seemed to like the drama that came with that territory, enjoying loving each other and pissing each other off all in one.
MENTAL WELLNESS:
Psychological Issues/Mental Illnesses: Psychologists have told him that he has PTSD, he disagrees (he’d be wrong). He does have dyslexia, though. Gets bouts of anxiety. Outlook on Life: Basically just to say “fuck it”. He felt like he got a second chance at life when he was 18, so he’s gonna live it. Throw caution to the wind, and do whatever the hell you want. Myers-Briggs Personality Type: INTJ Temperament: Phlegmatic Sun Sign: Aquarius Moon Sign: Libra Rising Sign: Sagittarius Venus Sign: Capricorn Alignment: Lawful Evil Hogwarts House: Gryffindor What/Who do they value most?: Liam. His freedom. What/Who are they willing to die for?: Liam. His mom. Personal Philosophy: A man makes his own luck. Biggest Fear: Small spaces. Are they superstitious?: Not anymore. Greatest Strength: Resilience. You can really put him through a lot and he’ll keep up a hardened exterior. Greatest Weakness: He has a bad temper. With some things, if he’s pushed too far, it can be disastrous. He’s bad at reigning that in - to be honest, he can get overemotional at some things, and it gets him in trouble. Good Characteristics: Dylan is a bit of a flirt, and that’s putting it lightly. Some see it as a bad thing, but for him, it’s pretty rewarding. He’s very booksmart, absorbing a lot of what he reads or hears. Bad Characteristics: He doesn’t like accepting help from people, thinking he can usually do everything on his own. He’s a good liar and can weasel his way out of a lot of things - but that means deceiving people close to him. And worse yet, he doesn’t care a lot about it. He’s a little on the pessimistic side. Favorite thing about themself? Why?: He’s always been good with kids, or younger individuals. He’s had to go through group therapies and classes and sessions after he escaped, and he was usually one of the oldest ones. He’d volunteered at places that helped at-risk kids, and kids with troubled pasts. It always made him feel better that they had someone to talk to about what they’d been through, that they had an ear who understood. Least favorite? Why?: That he still carries around the traumas he’s endured. If he had it his way, he’d be able to drop that like extra weight. Biggest regret: Leaving Liam. Twice, when he was taken (though, logically, he knows it wasn’t his fault) and not trying harder to get him to come to the Institute with him. Proudest moment: Setting Mack Jacobi’s house on fire. Secondly, threatening to beat up the defense lawyer in the case after asking Dylan inappropriate questions, and the judge allowing it to stay in the record. Quirks: He only buys one brand of cigarettes, and loses the lighters a lot - he still is used to lighting them with his fingertips, so if you catch him snapping randomly in the air, no you didn’t. How are they in crisis? Dylan is very good in crisis. Things can always be worse and he’s been in enough tough situations to handle a lot and know what not to do. What do they wish to change most about themself?: His past.
SPEECH & COMMUNICATION:
Pace: Slow and deliberate. Voice Tone: Often questioning, with an air of slight condescension. A little nasally. Accent/Dialect: He has that Milwaukee native accent, don’tcha know. Speech Patterns: He ends a lot of sentences with a “yeah?” or a “does that make sense?” Favorite Words/Phrases: Fuck. Every meaning of it. Mannerisms/Demeanor: Keeps his fingers in his pockets - when he’s annoyed or scared, his fingers twitch, as if he’s trying not to bolt. Posture: A little hunched, like he’s being protective, or sneaky. Unsuspecting. Gestures: The classic manly head nod - he does it for way too much. How good are they at lying?: Pretty good, but it took years of practice. He’s not one that even lies often - but when he does, it’s hard to tell.
BEHAVIOR:
Finances: Growing up never having a lot of money, Dylan’s gotten used to it. He still doesn’t have much, so he’s learned to hold onto it. Alcohol Use: Not sober, but he doesn’t drink heavily, or very often. He really doesn’t drink to get drunk - if he’s drunk, that’s a sign of an underlying problem. Drug Use: He’ll smoke cigarettes like a chimney, but he’ll take edibles or smoke weed usually to fall asleep or when he wants to chill out. He doesn’t like taking it when he’s anxious or irritated, not wanting to have to rely on it. Morning/Night Person?: Morning person. Morning Routine: He gets up early to go on a morning run, or some sort of morning exercises. Before the sun is up is even better. He showers, sometimes he falls back asleep if he has time before breakfast is served in the slave’s cafeteria. Day Routine: If not class, he’ll spend time at the library. He likes the quiet, the openness, and he’ll find a spot to read. He does really like to explore, so he’ll go swimming or hiking. Evening Routine: Sometimes he’ll go out at night, usually to score, not to party. For someone who really doesn’t want to share a cell with people, he typically aims pretty high. Night Routine: He goes to bed early, but sometimes he just can’t sleep and has no choice but to stay up. He’ll usually be up stewing, thinking, or play games on his phone. Sleep Habits: Dylan’s a very light sleeper and he wakes up a lot in the night, especially with the creaking of the cells. Special Skills: He’s a very good dancer, and a pretty good singer, but he’ll disagree. He’s a fast runner. Has a mean right hook. Historically, pretty good at finding parking spots. Unskilled at: Music. He wants to play an instrument so badly, but his fingers don’t seem to work in that way. He can play the bass, sort of, but that knowledge is slipping away. Hobbies: He’s a big sports fan, especially the Green Bay Packers. He watches Milwaukee sports teams, or WWE. He likes documentaries, fascinated by history. He’ll go hiking, or he’ll go exploring. Dylan’s a big fan of horror movies, and once he finds a franchise, he has to watch all of them in order before he can move on to something else.
FAVORITES (AND OTHER MISCELLANIA):
Book: D’Aulaire’s Book of Greek Myths Movie: Halloween TV Show: Midnight Mass Album: One X by Three Days Grace Artist: Linkin Park - he cried the day Chester Bennington died Song: Something in the Way by Nirvana Sport/Sport Team: Football’s his favorite, and he’s a die hard Green Bay Packers fan. Color: Orange Meal: Buffalo Wings with a side of Ranch Drink: Vanilla Cream Soda Snack: Sweet Potato Fries Outfit: No shirt, cut off black jeans, ankle-high Vans. Quote: ““Never trust a survivor,” my father used to tell me. “Until you find out what he did to stay alive.”“ Prized Possession: A first edition copy of The Shining.

Artist Research (3/8): Barbara Ciurej & Lindsay Lochman- Processed Views
Barbara Ciurej is a photographer and graphic designer based in Chicago. She earned her BS in Visual Communications from the Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Lindsay Lochman is a photographer based in Milwaukee and a lecturer at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. She earned her MS in Visual Communications from the Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Working together on photographic projects at the Institute of Design, Ciurej and Lochman developed a team. Barbara Ciurej and Lindsay Lochman have been collaborating as a creative team for over thirty years. Both nationally and internationally exhibited, their photographs are part of the permanent collections at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Contemporary Photography, the Walker Art Center, and the Milwaukee Art Museum. Barbara Ciurej works as a photographer and graphic designer in Chicago, while Lindsay Lochman is a Milwaukee-based photographer and lecturer at the University of Wisconsin.
Developing an extensive collection of collaborative work, they have documented the psychological landscapes and social architecture surrounding us. Their work continually explores the merging of history, myth, and popular culture as an ongoing theme. Processed Views is an ongoing, multi-part project that explores the current state of our food systems, examining everything from industrial food production to the fast-food values that have been eagerly adopted across the nation. Processed Views: Surveying the Industrial Landscape, as stated by Ciurej and Lochman, explores the frontier of industrial food production. This piece interprets the alarming and captivating intersection of nature and technology. The work was inspired by Carleton Watkins (1829-1916). The artists believed that Watkins reflected the widely accepted 19th-century belief in Manifest Destiny, the idea that America’s vast, fertile land was destined to be rightfully used and consumed by its citizens.
Barbara Ciurej & Lindsey Lochman
The first piece for Processed Views discussed in this blog will be Fruit Loops Landscape. Fruit Loops Landscape is a 2012 photo that depicts a lake, and mountains made entirely of bright colors and fruit loops. When looking at Fruit Loops Landscape, one can notice the big similarities between this photo and the one of Carleton Watkins. The photo simulates much of the landscape Watkins photographed, including the buildings. However, Ciurej and Lochman chose to use fruit loops as the houses, milk as the water, and colorful material to mimic the patterns of fruit loops. The photo can show a cereal brand's processed and artificial look today, with its color and overall look. Going for the idea of our natural world becoming processed and artificial is shown in the side-by-side comparison of Ciurej and Lochman’s work to Carleton Watkins.
Fruit Loops Landscape, 2012 Carleton Watkins (1829-1916)
The next piece is Blue Dye #1 Precipice which depicts a precipice made of blue sweets. Not only are they colorful, but the sweets in the photo are heavily pigmented, indicating the high amount of blue dye in the things people consume. Blue Dye #1 Precipice, similar to Fruit Loops Landscape, replicates the natural and raw idea of land and nature while still being able to show the artificial and man-made consumptions of the world. The cake can replicate mountains and land while working with the popsicles to simulate trees. The photo also includes water-like fluids to replicate a stream down the precipice. It is hard to tell what the liquid is, presumably water with blue dye or a drink that includes it. Ciurej and Lochman replicate what seems like a common landscape someone may know and create one with artificial and processed food consumed all over. It was not said what work of Watkins was used for this but looking at many of his pieces can show the general idea of what the artists were trying to predict.
Blue Dye #1 Precipice, 2014
Looking through Ciurej and Lochman’s Processed Views: Surveying the Industrial Landscape, it was very interesting to see all the different types of processed food they found and which landscape they chose to depict. There were ten different photos to choose from, but many of their photos ranged from sweets and bread to processed meats. I enjoyed scrolling through both Ciurej and Lochman’s work with Watkins' landscapes. It was interesting to see the new take on older more traditional pieces to the new artificial and technical consumerism the world surrounds itself with now. I recommend looking at Ciurej and Lochman’s work, not just Processed Views: Surveying the Industrial Landscape.

Whether you're a lifelong fan or new to the blues scene, attending a Blues Festival is an experience like no other. History and Origins The blues originated in the late 19th century as an Afro-American folk music form. It emerged from the deep South, particularly in the Mississippi Delta region, as a means for musicians to express their struggles, joys, and sorrows. Over the years, it has evolved and incorporated elements from various other music genres, including jazz, gospel, and rock 'n' roll. Today, the blues is recognized as a cornerstone of American music culture. Lineup and Performances One of the most exciting aspects of a Blues Festival is the lineup of artists and performances. Festival organizers carefully curate a diverse lineup that includes both renowned blues legends and up-and-coming talents. Attendees can expect to witness electrifying live performances that capture the raw emotions and energy of the blues. From soulful guitar solos to powerful vocal ballads, the range of musical talents on display is sure to leave a lasting impression. Workshops and Educational Sessions Beyond the main stage performances, many Blues Festivals also offer workshops and educational sessions. These sessions provide an opportunity for attendees to deepen their understanding of the blues, learn about its history, and even pick up a musical instrument themselves. From guitar masterclasses to songwriting workshops, these activities allow fans to connect with the music on a deeper level and gain insights from experienced musicians. Food, Drinks, and Vendors A festival experience is never complete without indulging in delicious food and drinks. Blues Festivals often feature a wide array of food vendors, offering a mix of Southern and international cuisines. Attendees can indulge in mouthwatering barbecues, soul food, and traditional dishes that perfectly complement the blues atmosphere. Additionally, there are usually beverage stands serving up ice-cold beers, signature cocktails, and non-alcoholic options to quench your thirst throughout the day. Yes, rabies can cause mental state changes, including anxiety, confusion, and agitation. The term "rabies" translates to "madness", and the disease can cause a range of mental states, from maniacal
excitement
to dull apathy. Rabies can also cause other emotional effects, such as mood changes, sleep disturbance,
loss of appetite
, stress eating, depression, panic attacks, and
compulsive behavior
.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
What are the signs and symptoms of rabies? | Symptoms | CDC
The first symptoms of rabies may be similar to the flu, including weakness or discomfort, fever, or headache. There also may be discomfort, prickling, or an itching sensation at the site of the bite. These symptoms may last for days. Symptoms then progress to cerebral dysfunction, anxiety, confusion, and agitation. As the disease progresses, the person may experience delirium, abnormal behavior, hallucinations, hydrophobia (fear of water), and insomnia. The acute period of disease typically ends after 2 to 10 days. Once clinical signs of rabies appear, the disease is nearly always fatal, and treatment is typically supportive.

How Does Rabies Affect Mental Health?
Apr 27, 2022 — Although exactly how each will react is impossible to predict, the possible emotional effects range from mood change; sleep disturbance; loss of appetite, or stress eating to depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and compulsive behavior. Some individuals are so troubled that even after receiving prompt prophylactic treatment, they turn to sedatives in an attempt to ease their anxiety. And since anxiety can go on even after it seems like they're out of the woods, they should seek mental health counseling, especially if loved ones feel they have developed a drug use disorder. Feb 26, 2024 — The mental state of a person infected with rabies varies from maniacal excitement to dull apathy—the term rabies means “madness”—but soon the person falls into a coma and usually dies in less than one week owing to cardiac or respiratory failure. Sometimes rabies is characterized by paralysis without any evidence of excitation of the nervous system. In such cases the course of the disease may be prolonged to a week or more. There is no cure for rabies. The incubation period (the time that elapses between the bite and the first symptom) is usually one to three months but in rare cases has been as long as several years.

Yes, mad cow disease (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, or BSE) is transmitted through the food supply in the United Kingdom. The disease is caused by contaminated cattle feed that contains the prion agent, which is an infectious form of protein. The feed is made from the remains of other animals, which is why BSE is also known as an "efficient" factory farming method. The disease is spread to young calves when they eat the feed, which amplifies the outbreak into an epidemic.

About BSE BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy) | Prion Diseases
There is strong evidence and general agreement that the outbreak was then amplified and spread throughout the United Kingdom cattle industry by feeding rendered, prion-infected, bovine meat-and-bone meal to young calves.

Reporting Foodborne Threats: The Case of Bovine Spongiform ...
In the early 1980s, Stanley Prusiner, the author of this chapter's first paper, proposed that the pathogens that cause two TSEs—Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) and scrapie, a disease of sheep—consist entirely of an infectious form of protein that he termed the prion; in 1997, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine for his work on prion biology. Researchers have since learned that in addition to scrapie and CJD, prions cause BSE and its human variant, vCJD, as well as chronic wasting disease in deer and elk.

Mad Cow Disease: Symptoms, Causes and Treatments for vCJD
Feb 6, 2024 — It also may have come from products from sheep with a prion disease called scrapie. The outbreak spread in the U.K. because young calves were eating prion-infected meat-and-bone meal. Cows don't get BSE from being near other cows that have it. But it can be transmitted through the food supply. An outbreak of mad cow disease peaked in the U.K. in 1993, with about 1,000 cases every week. By the end of 2015, the U.K. had recorded more than 184,500 cases. But BSE is a lot less prevalent now, with only two cases reported in the U.K. in 2015. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has tested hundreds of thousands of cattle for BSE.
NCBI
The legacy of BSE - PMC - NCBI
We do know that it took hold in the UK's national herd because of an “efficient” factory farming method introduced as far back as 1926, when cattle were first fed the remains of other animals. We also know that it was feed containing meat and bone meal made from BSE-infected tissues which amplified what would have been a small outbreak of the disease into an epidemic. BSE has left a remarkable legacy, not least in the form of a cautionary tale that still has the power to chill. As the mysterious disease spread through the UK's dairy herds, ministers and officials did all they could to deny there was any risk to human health.
University of Rochester Medical Center
Mad Cow Disease (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy) - Health Encyclopedia - University of Rochester Medical Center
The disease is related to variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD), which is fatal to humans and caused by eating infected cattle products. A case-control study of 132 vCJD cases in the UK found that eating beef products that may contain mechanically recovered meat and head meat, such as burgers, meat pies, and sausages, increases the risk of developing vCJD.
The outbreak peaked in 1993, with about 1,000 cases every week, but by the end of 2015, the UK had recorded more than 184,500 cases. BSE is now less prevalent, with only two cases reported in 2015. Some say that England and the rest of the British Isles is now the safest place in the world to eat beef.

And black people should be number one against LGBTQ because of the large amount of incarceration of their population and of white people were Asians have very low rates of sexually transmitted diseases. Prisons with high concentrations have high concentrations of LGBTQ activity. So these prisoners became infected and they get released out into the community, and they're never tested in prison before. And then they're released and have sexual relations spreading the disease through the white black community Very few asians ever go to jail......

So having so many people put in jail for non.Violent crimes like drug related sales transportatit has unbelievably cause the boom of all forms of sexually transmitted diseases and of all forms of communical diseases.... They don't test somebody before they put them in prison. They need to isolate them if they have a contagious disease. But when they put him in prison, they don't test them before they go in the prison and they contaminate the inmates and spread disease. And then that disease is released back in the population...
They sold all this to canada exporting massive amounts of disease to canada's hospital system..... Some got sold in the United States. But this spread disease and are they the only prison that sold plasma.... Is there are other prisons around the world selling plasma? 🤔 And this is why organ donations from prisoners You have to be very careful and check em for all kinds of Contagious diseases... Even if they go to Medical school their corpses. Those corpses carrying contagious diseases may, Infect, the medical students. You see below the sale of plasma spread disease throughout the united states and to any other country we sold it to..... These were shut down after 1982, but they were spreading massive amounts of disease prior to 1982...... And that means there should be class.Action lawsuits against the states against the medical institutions and against the companies that took and were responsible for distributing the plasma without checking it for diseases.... So any of those people that were affected could sue these organizations..... And Health Insurance companies should be helping these individuals. Sue individuals that contaminate them.... Because they want to get their money back for the damages. Those individuals Cos 2 the institutions and making sure the individual is compensated correctly. So health insurance companies should be behind this movement.... Because this cost health insurance companies greatly and costs life insurance companies greatly and disability insurance companies greatly... As these diseases made them sick made them disabled and killed them affecting all forms of human insurance....

And this is the problem with the illegal organ trade market as those organs can carry diseases.....
In the early 1980s, the FDA and CDC alerted the public about AIDS, and most prison plasma programs shut down. In December 1982, the FDA asked companies that made blood products not to purchase prison plasma, since many inmates have either injected drugs or engaged in homosexual acts, making them high risk for AIDS.

Dec 24, 1998 — Most prison plasma programs shut down in the early 1980s, when the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control alerted the public about AIDS. In December 1982, the FDA asked companies that made blood products not to purchase prison plasma, since many inmates have either injected drugs or engaged in homosexual acts, making them high risk for AIDS. The large pharmaceutical companies that were buying from Cummins stopped buying inmates' plasma, a once-valuable commodity because of the large volumes produced each week.
However, some prisons continued to sell plasma to blood brokers, such as Continental Pharma Cryosan Inc. in Montreal, Canada. In 1982 and 1983, at least 72 units of questionable plasma collected from five Arkansas inmates were sold to the company.
The Arkansas prison system profited from selling blood plasma from inmates infected with viral hepatitis and HIV between 1982 and 1994 at the Cummins Prison in Grady, Arkansas. Prisoners “bled” in exchange for $7 to $10 per donation, and tainted blood products were distributed internationally. It is alleged that thousands of people became infected with hepatitis C as a result.
In 1983, the FDA initiated an international recall of plasma likely tainted with hepatitis B, and Cryosan learned that it had been buying plasma extracted from prisoners.
Those that work with dead bodies like corners Forensic people as well as medical students are realright hire risk of transmission From the dead body to them these below diseases and so Countries that have high levels of these diseases Medical schools should be much more careful and social hospitals and doctor's offices.
Dead bodies can pose a substantial risk to health in some cases, such as when someone has died from
cholera, hemorrhagic fevers, or other infectious diseases. However, dead bodies from natural disasters or armed conflict usually do not pose a health danger to communities. This is because victims who have died from
trauma, drowning or fire do not normally harbor organisms that cause disease.

Risks posed by dead bodies after disasters

Sep 15, 2023 — The bodies of people who have died following wounds sustained in a natural disaster or armed conflict almost never pose a health danger to communities. This is because victims who have died from trauma, drowning or fire do not normally harbour organisms that cause disease with common precautions. The exceptions are when deaths occur from infectious diseases such as Ebola or Marburg diseases or cholera, or when the disaster occurred in an area endemic for these infectious diseases.
Dead bodies may contain blood-borne viruses such as hepatitis viruses and HIV, and bacteria that cause diarrheal diseases, such as shigella and salmonella. However, these viruses and bacteria do not pose a risk to someone walking nearby, nor do they cause significant environmental contamination.
People who routinely handle corpses may risk contracting tuberculosis
bloodborne viruses (eg hepatitis B and C and HIV), and gastrointestinal
infections. The WHO recommends that workers handle corpses by: Using gloves once only and disposing of correctly, Using body bags, Washing hands with soap after handling bodies and before eating, Disinfecting vehicles and equipment, and Being vaccinated.
So again medical schools should be very careful and they need to check the animals they're working with as well......
So anyone dealing with dead bodies or anyone in the medical field should be checking and this is why everybody must be mandatory to do full blood work, including the sexually transmitted diseases. If not that everybody in the hospital system the healthcare system is at risk... And the people in the patient's office when they come in are at risk... So it should be mandatory.I think some my annual health check ups... I think there should be full blood work done twice a year. And I believe that we need to move to a buy annual health screening system.... Why we catch things faster? That means they can't incubate for as long and people would live.... I believe a year is way too long.... I believe we need to go to biannual..... And I believe this will help catch all forms of disease earlier..... And that means survival rates from all forms of disease meaning all forms a cancer will go up...... Because yes we can do a lot of blood screenings for different forms of cancer... But we also need to do lymphatic system samples for cancer's way.. I believe if we take a sample of blood with a sample of fluid from the lymphatic system we can catch all forms of disease in the beginning because they'll show up in one of the two systems...

Blood tests can help diagnose cancer by identifying chemicals and proteins in the blood that may be higher than normal when cancer is present. However, blood tests alone cannot diagnose cancer. When used with other cancer diagnostic tests, like imaging, blood tests can help detect abnormalities and guide a diagnosis.

Moffitt Cancer Center
Can Blood Work Detect Cancer? | Moffitt
May 3, 2022 — Aside from leukemia, most cancers cannot be detected in routine blood work, such as a CBC test. However, specific blood tests are designed to identify tumor markers, which are chemicals and proteins that may be found in the blood in higher quantities than normal when cancer is present. One common example is the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test, which measures the level of PSA in the blood. An elevated level of PSA—a protein produced by the prostate gland—may be a sign of prostate cancer.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America
Lab and Blood Tests for Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment
Blood tests play an important role in diagnosing and treating cancer. Not only are blood tests useful in determining overall health, including kidney and liver function, but the presence of certain chemicals and proteins in the blood can also help your doctor diagnose cancer. While blood tests alone cannot be used to diagnose cancer, when used with additional cancer diagnostic testing such as imaging, they help to detect abnormalities to guide a diagnosis and help determine appropriate treatment options.
Some blood tests used to diagnose cancer include:
Complete blood count (CBC)
: Measures the amount of each type of blood cell in a sample of blood
Electrophoresis blood test: Looks at the various proteins in your blood to find the ones made by your body's immune system
Tumor marker tests: Use a sample of blood to look for chemicals made by cancer cells
Some common tumor marker blood tests include:
Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) Testing
Detects the presence of an antigen that is not normally present in the blood of healthy adults
AFP (Alpha-Fetoprotein) Testing
Detects the presence of an antigen that is not normally present in adult men or non-pregnant women
Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test
Measures the level of PSA in the blood, which may be a sign of prostate cancer
Some multi-cancer early detection (MCED) tests look for certain pieces of
DNA or proteins from cancer cells. If these are found, it might mean that the person has cancer, and it might also show which organ the cancer started in. The Galleri test is available by prescription through a doctor and costs $949. A study published in
the New England Journal of Medicine
in March 2024 showed that the Galleri test correctly detected
colorectal cancer
in 83% of people confirmed to have the disease.
So doing a lymph node fluid biopsy with ultrasound to detect breast cancer....
When the area is numb, they put a thin, hollow needle attached to a syringe through your skin. Then they take a sample of cells. They might take samples from more than one area. You will feel some pressure on the armpit, and it can sometimes feel uncomfortable, but it isn't usually painful.

Lymph node ultrasound and biopsy – under the arm (axillary)
A doctor may perform a
lymph node biopsy
of the
armpit
lymph node to determine if cancer cells are present in the breast cancer. The
sentinel node
is the first lymph node in the armpit and is where breast fluid drains into, making it the first node that breast cancer could spread to. During the procedure, a surgeon may inject a radioactive substance or blue dye near the tumor to locate the sentinel node. The surgeon then uses a device to detect
lymph nodes
that contain the radioactive substance or looks for lymph nodes that are stained. The surgeon usually removes 1 to 3 nodes to see if they contain cancer cells.

Surgery to remove lymph nodes from your armpit
Nov 28, 2023 — The sentinel node is the first node in the armpit, where the fluid drains into from the breast. This means it's the first lymph node the breast cancer could spread to. Your surgeon usually carries out a sentinel lymph node biopsy during the operation to remove your breast cancer. You have about 1 to 3 nodes removed to see if they contain cancer cells.

During the procedure, the doctor will:
Clean the skin
Apply a
local anesthetic
to numb the area
Insert a thin, hollow needle attached to a syringe through the skin
Take a sample of cells
Remove the needle
Close the
incision
with stitches and apply a bandage or liquid adhesive
The procedure can take 30 to 45 minutes. You may feel some pressure on the armpit, and it can sometimes feel uncomfortable, but it isn't usually painful. You should let the doctor know if it is painful, you may need more local anesthetic.
After surgery, you may have a buildup of fluid where lymph nodes were removed, called seroma. Your body will reabsorb the fluid, but it may take some time. You should call your doctor right away if the area becomes painful or shows signs of infection, such as redness, warmth, or tenderness.
You usually get the results within 2 weeks.

community engagement & graphic design: a center street library teen program
audience: teens 13+
program description & justification:
in this ~1h30min program, teens will design a graphic of their choice in relation to a topic they care about in their community.
this program is designed to:
promote teen community engagement
develop confidence in teens' creative skills
activate teen agency, voice, & sense of value
i am most excited about this last purpose: i hope that this program gives teens at least one way to see themselves as a person who can impact their surroundings. one resident of this neighborhood once commented that our youth often get caught up in the "invisible net" of structural racism. So much media coverage of Metcalfe Park has been dedicated to articulating the problems that arise from this ongoing history: segregation/redlining, food deserts, environmental issues, etc. While this is important to elucidate and acknowledge, it can also be overwhelming and make people feel helpless – especially teens, who were born here by no choice of their own. By focusing their attention on one issue/aspect and how to promote/advocate for it well, we can lessen information overload and increase civic awareness – thus not only helping our teens develop, but our community as a whole.
this program is also aligned with the YALSA competencies of:
teen growth & development
fostering learning environments & experiences
specifically, this program addresses several developmental supports for teens, including:
empowerment: youth as resources
constructive use of time: creative activity
positive values: caring
positive values: equity & social justice
budget & additional resources
i have intentionally designed this program to require minimal expenditures by the library. the required resources of laptops/computers, paper/pencils/pens, as well as basic craft supplies such as markers, colored pencils, glue, etc. the items that need to be separately purchased are:
poster board (to be cut into smaller pieces from 22" by 28")
supplemental craft supplies (not strictly necessary)
additionally, it would be beneficial to obtain old copies of milwaukee newspapers/magazines for teens to cut out pictures from. one potential avenue for obtaining these is putting up signage in the library asking for patrons to donate their copies several weeks in advance of the program date.
with all that said, i imagine that the budget for this event should not exceed $40, erring on the side of potentially needing more craft supplies than anticipated.
timeline
planning/prep work needed:
powerpoint creation (on graphic design & milwaukee mural map)
obtain/confirm laptop/computer availability
obtain physical materials
reserve teen space/lab
obtain space/permission to display finished products
work with TAB to advertise, create work playlist
reach out to community partners (i.e., schools), social media to advertise
the program is tentatively structured this way:
introduction & brainstorming (5-7 mins)
i will introduce the topic of the session -- designing a creative work (i.e., poster, mural, etc.) that promotes their individual views on their neighborhood/community - and explain the agenda, which begins with a brainstorming session.
in this session, patrons will, whether on paper or electronic devices, brainstorm on two topics: a) things specific to their neighborhood or community that they enjoy, and b) things specific to their neighborhood or community that they see as problems or would like to change.
2. overview of graphic design (10-15 minutes)
I will go over a few basic principles of effective graphic design (i.e., effective use of space, how to make info. easy to follow, etc.)
I will also introduce them to Milwaukee Mural Map, an interactive resources that allows users to select & view murals, as well as context/history behind them, throughout the city.
3. work time (40 minutes)
teens are free to work on their design; both physical and digital materials will be provided. the TAB will be enlisted to create a playlist of music to listen to while they work, though the teens are welcome to bring their own headphones to listen to their own music as well. they are also welcome to collaborate with each other!
4. shareback & discussion (5-10 minutes)
i'll lead a brief discussion of their work & how they approached it. i also plan to offer them the opportunity to have their work displayed at the library or on the library's website.
other considerations
Opportunities for Partnership
Metcalfe Park Community Bridges - a locally run neighborhood-focused activist group, it could be really powerful to have a guest speaker come and talk about their experiences with activism & Metcalfe Park
Local graphic designers/artists/teachers - for the graphic design basics portion
2. Challenges/Obstacles
this is likely a sensitive and affecting topic for many teens, some of whom, understandably, may not trust someone who doesn't share their lived experience to engage with the program. this is why i think either a partnership with a community organization would be beneficial, as well as involvement of the TAB. we should be intentional in centering teen opinions and concerns on this topic, not our own.
assessment/evaluation technique
the graphics they create will also serve as a deliverable to measure what they got out of the program! these will not be "assessed" based on artistic quality, but rather on whether a clear message was communicated.
for evaluation, teens will be asked to complete a quick google form soliciting what they liked best about the program and things that could be improved.
