I just love the irony of the faunal switcheroo that occurred between the Mesozoic and Cenozoic.
Like, for the longest time, mammals were the highly diverse small fry, with some notable big ones, lots of different small ones, and ones who do some weird things. And the dinosaurs and their kin (plesiosaurs, pterosaurs especially) were the large and ecosystem dominating organisms, wild and varied and BIG. Then in a blink of an eye in geologic terms, the roles have since switched.
Now the birds are the small but highly diverse small fry a few big members and lots of weird ones. And the mammals are the big and dynamic ecosystem dominating organisms.
I should note however that it isn’t a one to one reversal. The most speciose group of mammals are still relatively small in overall body size with a few outliers. Unlike Mesozoic mammals that had a few outlying genera of large bodied hunters of small dinosaurs, there whole clades of predatory birds who still hunt small to mid-sized mammals.
So I guess I’m saying the trends overall have reversed, but the relationship is much more dynamic than that.

Dragons in a Trail of Cryptids
Tumblr media
I don't care if this technically was posted in march i uploaded it to deviant art in time this is a february art post lmfao. This was meant to be a birthday gift for @jennywolfgal and her other project Trail of Cryptids. Enjoy!!!
The world of Trail of Cryptids explores an evolutionary history for life on earth. One in which the beasts of our folklore are more fact than fiction. Cryptids and mythological creatures exist and evolved naturally through both expected and unexpected origins.
One such group of organisms are the legendary dragons of countless tales of our world. Here they only recently diversified, but their ancestry dates all the way back to the beginning of the triassic.
Their earliest ancestor was a third offshoot of the Avemetatarslians, the same group of archosaurs that gave rise to the dinosaurs and pterosaurs. Ancient Silesaur-like Paradrakoans lived under their brothers’ shadows for the entire mesozoic period. Only scraping by through the smallest niches and farthest corners of the world like the equally unfortunate mammals.
Once the asteroid hit the earth 66 million years ago and wiped out the dinosaurs and pterosaurs. Only 2 representatives of this once great clade remained. Birds, and a single paradrakoan. A small burrower classified as Fodermasaurus superstes, cheekily named by paleontologists as the spug.
It took a long time for the Drakoans to grow their wings and spread it. At first climbing trees and making burrows, then gliding to ease the falls from the canopy. Then longer webbing on the hands to change direction. And finally learned to flap them to gain height. Countless now dead lineages, finally producing the first Drakoan over 40 million years ago during earth’s late eocene.
Nowadays the Drakoans are a fairly small group. They only consist of roughly 1,116 species. A far cry from their far more successful avian cousins. But nonetheless a monumental achievement relative to their entire evolutionary history.
Some common traits that distinguish the Drakoans from other vertebrates are developed egg-teeth that some species retain well into adulthood. Large auricles or external ears, Keratin horns. And most notably powered flight, evolving independently from their avian cousins.
We’ll start out with the order Avidrakoa. An order of Drakoans unique for possessing fully developed beaks derived from their egg teeth. And a unique wing structure made more out of fur bristles than a tough skin membrane. The Avidrakoans first split the moment the class as a whole first evolved powered flight. Allowing their wings to be this derived
They are not too common, numbering in 148 species in total. Most of which are split between basal bipeds such as thunderbirds and the more derived quadrupeds which include griffins.
The species here is an actual griffin. Gryphon tropicus to be exact. They are apex predators of the rainforests of indonesia. Their deep warm coloration and disruptive stripe conceal them in the forest scenery to ambush prey. And their powered flight lets them hop across islands, making them not only a formidable predator, but a widespread one too.
The most famous members of the Drakoan class are the Eudrakoans, the true dragons. They are characterized by their strong parenting mentalities and a natural ability to breathe fire. Through 4 orifices in the corners of their mouth they spew out a liquid biofuel into the path of a similarly regurgitated and highly reactive gas, igniting the fuel into a stream of flaming liquid.
They are the most widespread group of dragons, totalling at 447 different species. Most species are either small sprawling quadrupeds such as the European forest dragon to erect striding quadrupeds like the legendary Eurasian mountain Tsar
The species representing the True Dragons. Megaloros thereusicthys is a close relative to the Eurasian mountain Tsar. Although unlike their apex cousin this species is a wading piscivore. Using their stilted legs to practically hover over the water and their flexible necks to pluck fish out of the rivers they tread through.
Next up is the order Wyverna, a group of Drakoans distinguished by the development of poison laced quills found in certain places along the body. All interconnected to a set of poison glands in the upper mandible. These glands oddly enough share the same ancestry as the biofuel tanks in the Eudrakoans. And a stiffer wing structure making them obligate bipeds
They are the second most common order of dragons. Numbering at 335 documented species. Including the cockatrice surprising many.
The species pictured here is Ouranodyno chrysokephale. A generalist omnivore with a generalist range across Mexico with a rather extravagant hunting method. They dive-bomb towards their prey and catch them with their mouths. More as showmanship for mates than an actual means to survive. They also have extravagant coloration to warn would-be attackers of their poisonous tail quill that could kill a bison in under a minute
There is the order Wurmiza, the most derived group of dragons recorded. They are distinguished by a near complete lack of hind legs. Fully internalized ears, a streamlined annelid-from body plan, and aquatic to semi-aquatic lifestyle. They are the 2nd rarest order of dragons. Consisting of only 124 documented species. Consisting of the smaller seafaring Ladons and the larger Oceanic sea Serpents. The species used to represent the Wyrms, Pachaktevenator horribilis. Is a medium sized sea serpent found in the Indian ocean. They are notable for their extreme aggression and their mating season being spent on the beach. Draconian elephant seals if you will.
Lastly, despite only being a family. This last group of dragons is peculiar enough to warrant it's own highlight in this introduction. The Neosaurs are in a way a twisted mirror of the beasts of the past. They are notable for a complete lack of wings, reduced horns and aurica. But are most recognizable for the Theropod-like body plan most Neosaurs display. Which is speculated to be a consequence for their ancestors having stiff wings like their Wyvern cousins.
They are a very rare order, there are only about 62 species documented. Most of them are found across africa as smaller generalists. But a few can get big enough to recapture what the original dinosaurs had lost
Representing the Neosaurians, the Kasaii asymneter is a south african desert dwelling relative to the legendary Kasaii rex of the southern congo rainforest. They are both pursuit hunters and act relatively similar. The main difference is the prey selection and differenc coloration.

The fact Adam will fall to Hell when he died and the fact he died way before Lilith and her husband got banish is hilarious to me because it implied that Adam will be the first in Hell and that to the angels(and Lucifer), Adam just disappear and absolutely no one can find him, he's just off the radar
Meanwhile, Adam gets to explore a new biome without having to deal with people again, or if there are imps and hellhounds already there, start or join a civilization
||🍃🔱 BUTTERFLY EFFECT MESOZOIC 🔱🍃||
Lucifer will completely lose his mind when he can't find him anywhere.
While Adam is having a quiet time exploring hell and creating a more "normal" civilization with the resident demons.

First of all, let me start by saying, Geshtu is absolutely, completely, and irrevocably insane.
Of the three, he is the least sane. Now this isn’t me saying “HAHA HES COOKOO HAHA WOW WHAT A MANIAC” No it’s not like that at all. You see, the thing about Geshtu is that he doesn’t seem “insane” at all, in fact, compared to Nergal and Dumuzi he comes across as perfectly put together.
The thing about Geshtu is that he is completely convinced by his own delusions. And he has convinced himself so fully of these delusions that he has not only sold them to himself but also to others. The voices he hears, to him, are completely real. He believes so wholeheartedly that he is a vessel for Theias voice that he puts on this complete and divine demeanor. He seems more sane than the others because he carries himself that way.
Dumuzi knows she has problems and she hides from them. Nergal definitely knows he has some screws loose but he embraces it. Geshtu, meanwhile, instead of pushing down his insanity like Dumuzi or embracing it like Nergal, he strides side by side with his.
Now let’s go back to the late Cretaceous where Geshtu grew up. Small groups of family camps were common throughout the Mesozoic, even moreso than villages such as where Cro, Dumuzi, and Nergal were raised. These groups would travel to trade with other family camps, exchanging information, intermingling, ect. But afterwards they’d return to their own family burrow to live their lives. They were foragers and hunters. Geshtus family in particular specialized in fishing and insect hunting.
Tumblr media
Geshtu was still Geshtu. He was always a little more quiet and methodical than his other siblings, traits he’s kept with him.
So I’ve mentioned on the backstory posts before how most mammals during the Mesozoic lived nocturnally for their own safety. The large reptilian predators at the time were mostly diurnal so there was less risk of being ripped apart and eaten at night. But there are always exceptions.
One night, as the family was waking to begin their evening routines, there was a scratching above the burrow. And then the ceiling fell through.
Tumblr media
A pack of stenonychosaurus, a species of Troodontid, had dug their way into the burrow. They had been invaded. The Stenonychosaurus pack flooded into the burrow and made short work of maiming and devouring the entire family.
Geshtu got hurt, not horribly but enough to cause him to fall and become temporarily disoriented. He would be next if he did not find a place to hide. As he frantically looked around, he noticed a beam of moonlight breaking through the torn overhead of his families burrow. The light washed over a bundle of rocks and debris that had fallen from the ceiling and there was a small gap between them. Small enough for him to fit.
Tumblr media
While the troodons were preoccupied with their current meals, Geshtu managed to crawl over to the small opening and discreetly push himself inside it undetected. And he hid there, unable to do anything but watch and wait as his family was torn apart in front of him.
Tumblr media
Eventually the troodons finished feeding, were filled, and left. Not much was left behind, save for a few bodies still intact. Geshtu cautiously creeped out of his hiding spot after the coast was clear and went to check on what bodies he could, hoping to find survivors. He found one body that seemed fairly intact, he dragged it out of the pile of death and tried to lift it up into a sitting position. It fell back over with a heavy thud. Blood was everywhere, his tail dragged in it, it coated his hands. No one but him was left alive among the wreckage.
Tumblr media
Realizing the hopelessness of his endeavor he backed up against the burrow wall. He covered his eyes with his hands, hoping that by not being able to see the wreckage anymore, it would disappear. Maybe when he removed his hands it would have turned out to all be a nightmare. But when he did, everything was still as it had been.
Tumblr media
The moonlight shone down on him from the burrows exit. Its guidance had saved him from the slaughter, so he decided to follow it again. He limped out of the burrow into the open night and made his way to the family creek that sat just outside to wash the blood off his hands. It was then that he caught his reflection in the water. The blood from his hands had marked his face and he could see it now. And, reflected above his head in the water, he saw the moon. Full and bright and comforting. He took this as a sign that the moon had marked him, and he was reborn under it. So he ceased washing it away, stood up, stared at the moon, and began to follow it.
Tumblr media
And so Geshtu walked. And walked. And walked. Staring up at the moon the entire time. He needed to understand. He needed to know why this happened and why it had saved him. He walked for a long time. And when the moon dipped below the atmosphere and the sun rose, he’d slink into whatever shelter he could find to rest. But when the moon arose again, he’d come out, and continue his pilgrimage, always staring directly at the moon, resulting in him moonblinking himself.
Tumblr media
The more he walked, the more the pain faded. He grew more at peace the longer he walked and stared. Like the moon herself was taking away all the hurt for him. His circumstance began to feel less like a tragedy and more like fate. Eventually, he could hear her singing. First just a light humming, but eventually he began to hear words along with it. Crisp and clear and ringing throughout him. She spoke her name, Theia.
He walked for a very long time. Probably a few years. Just him and the moon. He traveled far, restaining his markings whenever he had the opportunity. He was born in blood and would be forever stained by it. On his journey, he’d occasionally run into passerby’s and other burrows, but these meetings were short and fleeting.
One night though, the moon led him into a small village. And when Geshtu entered, he knew he heard Theia say, “Here.”
Tumblr media
At first the villagers were unsure of him but helping other mammals traveling through was not unheard of for him. And Geshtu looked rough. He was a strange foreign vagabond with even stranger markings. But he showed them no hostility and they took him in and fed him. He was quiet but otherwise was grateful and polite.
Eventually he started murmuring prophesies to the people there. Little ones like “theia says the ridge to the west has the best seed gatherings” or “Theia warns not to go near the badlands on this night, there’s something malicious there…” and, by complete chance, almost all of these ended up true.
So now people were convinced that he really could hear the moon speaking to him and that the Theia was their friend. She was looking out for the little creatures of the night, who lived hiding in fear of the monsters of the daylight. And so Geshtu became trusted as the Villages Shaman, sent by Theia herself. He was the one people went to for divine advice
Tumblr media
And that’s how he found his place there. He was convinced that his family HAD to die for this greater purpose. It was all supposed to happen. He was meant to come here and he was meant to save these people. The voices guide him to protect these creatures of the night, he is simply an agent of Theia. He believes wholeheartedly in everything Theia tells him. And…they say if you believe something hard enough the energy can manifest itself into reality. And so they eventually would. He, Dumuzi, and Nergal would eventually will themselves into godhood and bring forth a horror unlike any other.

Weird question, but I'm in charge of my job's (library) big fall book ordering event this year (for adults). One of the categories is science/tech, and I've noticed that our nonfiction section is seriously anemic in terms of paleontology. Are there any books you'd recommend from the last year or two to pick up? The ones I know are just a hair too old to be able to justify to the director.
The entire "Earth Before Us" series by Abby Howard
"Dinosaur Behavior" by Michael Benton comes out this october
there's "Birds of the Mesozoic: An illustrated Field Guide" by Juan Benito
there's Darren Naish'es new book "Ancient Sea Reptiles" but also his "Dinopedia" and "Dinosaurs" that he wrote with Paul Barrett
there's also "Dinosaurs Rediscovered" by Benton or "Dinosaurs: New Visions of a Lost World" (again by Benton)
of course "Locked in Time" by Dean Lomax also "Dinosaurs 10 Things You Should Know"
"Dinosaur World" By Evan Johnson-Ransom
"The Future of Dinosaurs" by David Hone
the "Dinosaur Facts and Figures" series
whatever edition "The dinosauria" is up to now
you can get Greg Paul's books, I guess, but I have critiques
there are art books, too, like "Mesozoic Art"
and probably way more, but that's a good starting point

Out of curiosity why is there no winter? Was it a complication of too many asset/model changes/amount? Was it the fear of not having much to due during that kind of season? (which some crops actually do grow in winter, feel like a lot of farming games don't think of that.). It just felt a bit weird to go from fall to suddenly it's spring again.
Here's some info from our game director!
"The original inspiration for the game was childhood summer, so at first we didn't have any other seasons. But actually, we thought other seasons would add a lot. And winter did present extra challenges that we simply didn't have the capacity to take on - something else would've had to give - but it also felt like it would be contrary to the spirit of summer that the game was about. And lastly, having the seasons named after the three mesozoic periods also fit perfectly."

Jurassic World Dominion — My Edition — News Reels
After the prologue and the additional scene involving the baby, news reals come up in a montage and show what the world was going through the five years since the eruption of Isla Nublar and incident at the Lockwood Manor.
Dinosaur-caused casualties: Ever since fall 2018, dozens, maybe even hundreds of people were killed by dinosaurs, where the it’d be accidentally scaring herbivorous dinosaurs like Stegosaurus or Brachiosaurus… or intentionally being killed by carnivorous dinosaurs like Compsognathus or Allosaurus if said dinos are hungry or desperate for food.
Dinosaurs eating crops: Several herbivorous dinosaur species start eating crops like corn or wheat, mostly out of curiosity as dinosaurs never ate crops before.
Dinosaurs spreading across the world: From a combination of migration, natural breeding, illegal breeding, overseas transportation, etc., more dinosaurs are spreading across the world.
More dinosaur species appearing: Throughout the five years since the Lockwood Manor incident, more dinosaur species have been appearing, as well as spreading across the world through migration, natural breeding, illegal breeding, overseas transportation, etc.
Dinosaurs suffering heavy poaching: With dinosaurs appearing around the world, illegal poaching becomes a threat to all dinosaurs, herbivorous and carnivorous alike. Ceratopsians and stegosaurids start to suffer from the poaching that elephants and rhinos go through.
Dinosaurs impacting ecosystems: Ever since fall 2018, reports came in on dinosaurs negatively impacting ecosystems with the herbivorous dinosaurs eating much more flora and leaving barely anything for modern animals such as deer and such. And carnivorous dinosaurs were eating more modern animals like deer and such than natural breeding can replenish.
Dinosaurs dealing with invasive plant and animal species: Not all about dinosaurs in the world is bad as large reports of carnivorous dinosaurs like Carnotaurus, Velociraptor, and several others are eating invasive wild boars in America. And marine animals like juvenile Elasmosaurus and even sea scorpions have been observed eating invasive lion fish in the Atlantic. Not to mention pterasours feast on invasive Asian cod in American rivers.
Biosyn’s aid in the matter: Now having the ability to clone and release dinosaurs, Biosyn provides aid in relocating captured dinosaurs to the Biosyn Sanctuary or wildlife reserves. Thus allowing Biosyn to receive billions of dollars in government grants. On top of that, Biosyn aims to study dinosaurs for beneficial purposes for the dinosaurs, modern wildlife and humanity.
Biosyn helping restore forests: Using genetic modifications, Biosyn helps in restoring forests around the world; including the rainforests & mangrove forests of Central America, South America, Africa, Southeast Asia, Indonesia and Australia. And native tree species are obviously being used in these projects, and therefore the trees are native to the areas they’re being planted and grown at.
Biosyn terraforming several deserts: Biosyn is also bringing tropical rainforests and lush wetlands into barren deserts like the northern part of the Sahara Desert, with a good number of plants/trees being cloned from fossilized Mesozoic flora.
Status on Isla Nublar: News on Isla Nublar reveal that most of the island is utterly destroyed, and Mt Sibo is nothing but a large deep crater. That reveals that Sibo’s eruption in 2018 was as large & destructive as Mount Vesuvius’s eruption in 79ad, maybe more powerful. And the huge amounts of ash, fire, and lava have utterly destroyed much of Nublar’s greenery, leaving the island with barren wastelands unable to provide for any dinosaurs.
As an extra, during the montage, several recordings are shown. With one being a flock of (JWE2-looking) Cearadactylus roosting/nesting atop the White House in Washington DC. Another recording shows a mixed herd of Tenontosaurus and Pachyrhinosaurus eating a corn field. A third recording shows (TLW) Velociraptors hunting herds of invasive wild boar.
And that’s all the news reals topics regarding the dinosaurs and the changes going world. And yes, i do plan on making & releasing posts talking about several of these news reals, so stay tuned.

Holiday season :)
Word count: 1727
Warnings: None, fluff
I'm trying out tumblr! This isn't very good but you can find some of my other stuff on Wattpad here! I posted this a while ago there, but I'm too much of a pussy to start a new account from scratch. Hope it's okay!
Tumblr media
You've been at the airport for almost an hour waiting for him. Your eyes scan the sea of people before finally, a familiar face catches your eye. "Otto!!" The man's head starts turning and looking frantically before landing on you. He smiles, waves, and starts parting through the crowd as you do the same, giggling the whole time. "You're back!! You're back, You're back, You'reback, You're finally back!!!" You yell as you close in on your best friend and wrap yourself around him as he drops his bag to catch you. He stumbles backward before falling with you on top of him. A few odd stares float as people continue to move around you both in the usual bustle of things. "How was it? Did you have fun?? Was it warm?" Otto begins to laugh, "Y/n, slow down, you're going to choke on your own words." "Right! Sorry!!" You stand up and hold out your hand to help him to his feet. He steadies himself before brushing himself off and picking up his bag. "You're so wound up, it was only a few days. It wasn't bad, I wouldn't say fun and warm? With all due respect, it was Ohio in mid-December." He adds smiling.
Otto had been only away for about 3 days or so visiting family for a little bit of break before the holidays. He never had an issue with them, but they were also never his favorite people. He wanted to be back in New York for the holiday break. You guys planned to spend it together.
"Okay okay, now that we've gotten the essentials out of the way, let's get back to my apartment, drop your shit and get some bangin nachos." You match his smile. "Drop my luggage at your place? Since when was I spending the next few nights?" He asks playfully "Since I realized how much I missed you, now let's go!" You practically drag him from the airport (Who am I kidding, It is very literal. You grab his wrist and pull him as he grasps his bag and continuously tries not to trip over his one untied shoelace.) You guys get outside to find the wind has already begun to pick up and the snow has started to come. Not in chunks or flakes yet, but just enough that you can feel it as you make your way towards the subway station. You both stand for a few minutes in silence as you relax at the fact that the noise of the airport rush has faded into a murmur with only a few conversations floating in and out of the doors a few yards away and as people pass by. You both turn your heads towards the sound of the tracks rattling under the weight of the train. As you board, Otto finds a seat next to a sleeping man and you find one diagonal of him next to an elderly woman doing that day's crossword. You smile at Otto, then continue the ride in silence once again, every once and a while peaking over to him or over the woman's shoulder at whatever word she seemed to be stuck on. You heard the breaks squeal and you stand up. Before making your way to the door you quickly turn to the woman and grin, "18 down is Mesozoic, miss." As you leave, you hear a small, creaky "Aha!" and the sound of her pencil scribbling.
You exit and catch Otto snickering next to you. "What is so funny to you?" "Nothing terribly Mesozoic." You slightly recoil. "Now we know why you are absolutely not an English major, that was the worst misuse of any word in the history of ever. And what can I say, I was a dinosaur kid." This only causes him to laugh louder, with you joining him as you exit the station. Your building is about a block away as you walk through the streets. The buildings break the wind, for the most part, however, the sidewalks and roads are now covered with a light carpet of snow as dusk rolls into the dark. "Important question, movie genre?" He squints a little. "Horror?" You smile, "Interesting choice. You know me so well. Next question, how fast can you run?" "What?" And just like that, you're off. Weaving between people feeling the wind against your face, only looking back to find Otto yards behind you. You reach your apartment complex and turn to face it head-on. You throw your arms up in victory. "YE-" Before you can finish you hear a "Y/N-" and feel a solid mass hit you from the side.  You expect to hit the sidewalk headfirst but instead find Otto's hand on the side of your head to soften the blow. Your right hip still hits the cement hard. "You okay?!" You ask, still tense. "I will be, you broke my fall. I just hope I didn't break you?" You hear him give a nervous laugh under his breath. "I'm okay." You don't scramble to get up but take a minute to breathe in the icy city air and the smell of him. He smelled of books and smoke and some kind of cologne that you couldn't quite place your finger on. Slowly, but eventually, he got up, pulling you up with him. "Fucking shoelace." "You're telling me you bodyslammed me because you tripped on your shoelace?" "You know me, a man of grace." You find yourselves finally in your apartment.
Tumblr media
(I am absolutely aware that in New York City you absolutely would not be able to pay for this as a student, but just go with it. Change it up if you want, too!! This is just what I imagine :))
"Make yourself at home, I'll grab some food from the place across the street. Shower's over there if you want one. I'll be back soon."
~time skipppppp~
Your right side still ached from the fall as you came back. You unlock your door and step in, closing the door behind you with your foot. "Hey, I'm back! Guess who got nachoooossss..." You lift your eyes and they meet with those of a half-naked Otto in a towel. "SORRYSORRYSORRYSORRY" You quickly turn around to face the other direction, absolutely beet red. "I'm uh, decent." You turn back around while he pulls his shirt over his head. You head to your own room and return in an old t-shirt and blue and white striped boxers. "Sorry about that. I wasn't paying attention." "Don't be," He laughs "What can I say, I'm that attractive." You roll your eyes and play along. You walk up to him, grazing your hand along his chest. "You're so right, I just can't help it." He stops laughing and looks down at you absolutely bewildered, face bright red. It's your turn to laugh now, "C'mon hot stuff, food's gettin' cold." After grabbing food, he sits on the couch while you place your plate on the ground next to you while you look at the VHSes under the tv. You pull one out, turn and hold it up. "Texas Chainsaw Massacre?" He nods "Sounds good to me." You put it into the player, pick up your plate, turn off the lights and sit to the left of Otto.
While you love horror movies, they always make you jump a little. Every time you would, it landed you a little closer to him. At some point, your thighs touched. "Fuck this." Without hesitating, he scoops you into his arms and places you on his lap. "See? Now you're safe." He places his hands on your hip and you wince, causing him to pull back. "Sorry, did I hurt you?" You shake your head vehemently. "No no, I just hit it a little hard when we, um, crashed." He looks at you in the dim light of the television with a look of genuine apology. "Would you mind if I took a look?" You giggle "You're a biochem major, what are you gonna do?" He looks at you like he was expecting that question. "Yeah," He said rolling his eyes, "Biochem." You continue to laugh and agree, tousling his hair. He hooks his thumb under the waistband of your boxers and pulls them down just enough to see. "Wow, take me out to dinner first." He blushes. "Well, I would but you don't seem to take a hint, love. But you seem to have one hell of a bruise coming in."
...
"What was that first part again?"
"You heard me."
"Otto Octavius," You turn around to face him, now straddling his lap, "Is this your way of asking me out?" He puts on an awkward grin, "Depends on what your answer is?" You bring your face closer to his, "Depends, can I kiss you?" You feel the heat radiate off his face "Absolutely. Yes." You close the distance, smiling into the kiss. It isn't lustful or rough, just passionate and loving. The calm in a storm, in a sense. Slowly, a hand makes it under your shirt as it runs up and down your back, bringing you closer. You move your hands up from his shoulders and to the back of his head, weaving your fingers into his hair. You both pull apart for a breath, pressing your foreheads together and giggling before kissing again.  "I have waited so long for you to ask me, you big dork." "Yeah, but I'm your favorite big dork, right?" You kiss him again, "Definitely. And you're cute too, so you get bonus points." You stare at each other for a bit, just smiling and kissing; laughing together every now and then. Both of you eventually lay down, you left to lay on his chest with his arms wrapped around you, drifting off while the snow blows by the window.
Until a shrill scream pierces through the air.
"We should probably turn that off."
"Yes, we should."

I hope you enjoyed it, feel free to request!! I haven't written in a long time and turns out a new hyperfixation is exactly what I needed to kickstart my brain again :) Hopefully see you guys soon!!

With Quentin Trembley III’s proof that peanut brittle has life sustaining properties, as well as the sap that kept dinosaurs in suspended animation for millions of years, it really has me split on what would be funnier/more interesting for deeper worldbuilding purposes:
That the species of trees in ancient Mesozoic Era Gravity Falls had the unique odd property of producing sap that could effectively suspend life infinitely and hardly degrade over millions of years within a cool cave environment. Especially compared to regular tree sap, which doesn’t have such peculiarities. As such, Quentin Trembley in his silly genius created and used a peanut brittle recipe that just so managed to replicate the same effects but with “peanut brittle.”
(Personally, I’m not sure what he actually encased himself in, but it’s definitely not normal peanut brittle, which is opaque and contains the titular peanuts compared to his block of transparent nut-less “peanut brittle”)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alternatively, there is the simpler yet arguably weirder other option:
That regular peanut brittle does have such properties in the world of Gravity Falls, and those ancient trees had the weird oddity of naturally producing peanut brittle in the form of sap. With the weirdness of Gravity Falls, it would not be surprising if there have been plants, fauna, and or environmental events throughout the valley’s history like extinct animals that pooped pizza slices, acorn trees that naturally grow and grow from brown colored size M8-1.25 acorn cap Hex nuts, or deposits of water bottle stalagmites and stalactites in some cave somewhere.
Tumblr media
Either way you put it though, it sure makes me wonder whether the stereotypical movie dinosaur biology inaccuracies hold true for all dinosaurs in-universe, or if these were the weird featherless dinosaurs that were attracted to Gravity Falls…

Pretending End Cretaceous mass extinction event never took place, do you have any thoughts on speculative evolution and how dinosaurs and their contemporaries may have evolved through the years?
Like the explosion of mammal biodiversity probably wouldn’t have taken place, but what else? Assuming other global processes like plate tectonics, and the accompanying changes in currents, oxygen cycles etc, if you only take away the asteroid and it’s direct consequences, how do the dominoes fall?
Well, AFAIK the asteroid wouldn't have had any long term affects on the planet's tectonic activity or the climate. It was an apocalyptic event for sure, but depending on what scientist you believe, the immediate effects of the impact were over anywhere from a couple thousand years to only a few months.
So the plates would still move the way they have in the Cenozoic and the climate would still cool down and dry up due to the Earth's orbit and Milankovitch cycles. There would still be an Ice Age and animals would have to adapt to it.
The main difference would be life of course, and I cannot stress this enough, everything would be different. There would be no placental mammals, plant life would be mostly angiosperms but not in their total domination we see today, teleost fish wouldn't fill almost every aquatic niche like they do today, and of course there'd still be a shit ton of dinosaurs.
The thing about the asteroid was that it basically wiped the earth clean of entire clades, and those vast expanses of open niches is what kickstarted the biosphere we know today. There would be literally nothing in common with our "timeline" if it hadn't hit, except for some extreme cases of living fossils like Triops or Lepisosteus. No Mackerel, no Poison Dart Frogs, no Rose Bushes, no Great White Sharks, no Leopard Slugs, no Bears, no Giraffes, no Komodo Dragons, no Coconut Trees, no Crows or Ravens, etc.
In that sense though, 66 million years isn't that long in the perspective of the Mesozoic, so there wouldn't be anything crazy different from the Cretaceous. I doubt we'd see any dinosauroids for example. There would still be big sauropods and big theropods to hunt them, there would still be pterosaurs and marine reptiles of all kinds, there'd still be Ammonites and plenty of lobe finned fish, etc.
I think it's safe to say the arms race between armored Ornithischians and Tyrannosaurs would fizzle out, and much like the Stegosaurs and Carnosaurs of the Jurassic, they'd go extinct to make way for other animals to take their place. Maybe gigantic dromaeosaurs and quadrupedal ornithomimids or extremely armored sauropods and pterosaurs with bone crushing beaks, the possibilities are endless and I'm sure there's a million speculative evolution projects out there trying to answer that question.
Basically, we wouldn't be here making these posts.

Wordplay Wednesday: Barremian
Ever heard a paleontologist use the word Barremian? If not, you will now and if you have, now you get to learn what it means!
Geologists and paleontologists work with deep time and there is frankly, a lot of time to contend with. To make it easier, we break it up into various pieces. The largest is an eon. We have four of those: the Hadean, the Archean, the Proterozoic, and the Phanerozoic. We are in the Phanerozoic Eon.
Tumblr media
We then break those eons down into eras. So, take the Phanerozoic. It breaks down into the Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic Eras.
Tumblr media
Each of the eras then breaks down into periods. For no particular reason aside from personal bias as a dinosaur paleontologist, let's break down the Mesozoic. The periods are Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous. Sound familiar, yes?
Tumblr media
In turn, those periods are broken down into epochs. Take the Cretaceous. It is broken into the Lower and Upper Cretaceous Epochs. Finally, the Epochs are broken up into ages. The Barremian Age is one of these.
Tumblr media
The Barremian occurred between 125.77 Ma and 121.4 Ma and is part of the early Cretaceous. Part of the Cedar Mountain Formation falls into this time frame, namely the uppermost Buckhorn Conglomerate and the Poison Strip Sandstone.

last final today everybody think of me and send me luck. read more is just my review session. don't really suggest opening but you know. raahhhh...
hadaen - archean - proterozoic (ediacambrian) - phanerozoic (paleozoic, mesozoic, cenozoic)
paleozoic - cambrian (explosion), ordovician (end extinction), silurian, devonian (late extinction), carboniferous, permian (end extinction)
mesozoic - triassic (end extinction) jurassic cretaceous (end extinction). of course
cenozoic - paleogene neogene quaternary
WAAHHHH.
permian - Pangaea Connected. woww synapsids evolve to large size & dominant roles! (amniotes w laterotemporal fenestrae) reptiles! ... errgggh.. Dimetrodon. Gorgonopsids. Dicynodon. Cynodon (would evolve into true mammals!).
end permian mass extinction. synapsids go OUGH! WAAAHH!!
triassic - synapsids dicynodon/cynodon rebound. first true mammals appearing.
Diapsids (fenestrae lateral + supratemporal) are evolving. like woah who is she ? Girl thats an archosaur.! diapsids who have Additional fenestrae — antorbital (in feont of orbits) and Mandibular (rear of lower jaw)! one key one to remember is the pseudosuchians who would later give rise to modern crocodilians . the other diapsid that Doesnt have additional fenestra is the. lepidosauromorph...
oldest record of dinosaur-like archosaurs from footprints ~250million years old
- small, bipedal, lacked specializations like true dinosauria (hip socket with hole)
- → dinosauromorphs (some were quadrupedal)
fuck me. ok. pterosaurs. archosaur. avemetatarsalian (ankle like a hinge rather than ball and socket). rhamphorphcynoids. wings w 1 elongated finger. first flying vertebrate yaayy
ichthyosaur - reptile. fish like lifestyle. paddle-like limbs finned tail shark like dorsal fin conical teeth etc. plesiosaur. another reptile. large test/torso, paddle limbs, rel. short tail. ok.
dinosaurs across the world from early triassic - early jurassic r fairly similar bc. pangaea.
first true sauropods (herbivorous quadrupedal saurischian) appear Late triassic with prosauropods but eventually overtake them. examples?! diplodocids and macronarians. diplodocid nipping peg-like teeth macronarians Ermm. munching teeth. less picky.
ornithischian thyreophorans appear. include ornithischian w armour e.g. stegosaurus (stegosaurus mainly known for jurassic)
I dont know where the fuck this goes. TRIASSIC END EXTINCTION!
it hit who?! Really hit the archosaurs but not the dinosaurs..?! both pseudosuchians and dinosaurs were well adapted — dinosaurs got lucky with some biological aspect that made them better able to survive the end-triassic extinction. woah!
anyway. predator wise. .... wuaw. megalosaurids and cretasaurids (theropods) but Late Jurassic had predator shift. To What? allosauroids and coelurosaurs!
allosauroids - vertebrae interlocked more rigid + proportionately longer legs
coelurosaurs - ..small. e.g. compsognathus. long series of sacral vertebrae, skinny light tail etc. would give rise to...?! Birds (first evolved late jurassic I am assuming this refers to the archaeopteryx which as found by hexley is the missing link between dinosaurs and modern birds and falls in the Avialae clade) and Tyrannosaurs! Woah!
early cretaceous has significant regional dinosaur differences. unfortunately i do not remember them! Early cretaceous is genuine fucking blur to me!! copy pasted from notes
- NA + europe: iguanodontians, ankylosaurs, brachiosaurid sauropods
- africa: dominant theropods were spinosaurs and carcharodontosaurids
- asia: coelurosaurian theropods became common, first ceratopsians evolved
erm. new theropods like spinosaurids + carcharodontosaurids, iguanodons become larger and abundant. mosasaur (reptile). bye stegosaurs (rare) hello ankylosaurs. also diplodocids go extinct. SAUROPOD DECLINE!
LATE CRETACEOUS! shit is going down.
sauropod decline but Thriving in...?! Southern supercontinent GONDWANA! but they're different from before.. 🤔 it's the Titanosaurs! most robust of All time! for example the argentinosaur the largest animal to have ever lived. also many had armour.
size and armour who could combat them... the Carcharodontosaurs! teeth like great white shark. may be an allosaurus. i think. there were also the ...! abelisaurs! last of the ceratosaurid lineage. short muzzle Short arms Small teeth this guy would go after the Smaller titanosaurs.
But what was happening in Northern supercontinent Laurasia 🤔 well the sauropod decline really hit here. so if there's an underabundance of herbivorous sauropods who is eating the fucking plants (which also differ from gondwana bc of such underabundance)
. replacing the iguanodons is the HADROSAURS! most successful herbivorous dinosaur in the northern hemisphere congratulations. two examples?! lambeosaurine which had a hollow nasal passageway in its crest (music. mating? scaring off?) and hadrosaurines which did not have that. at least some had crests just not from osteoderms. soft tissue?!
second to them is the Ankylosaurs which diverge into two main groups: tail club having ankylosaurids and No club nodosaurids. i remember bc. nodo. no dough? No money. for. ....the cl... the clu
Also second to them. marginocephalians — "fringe head" pachycephalosaurs and ceratopsians. primitive ceratopsians well known in asia but larger derived ones almost exclusive to north america.
And what is happening in laurasia Predator wise 🤔 allosaurs are doing well but they have competition: Its the Coelurosaurs! WOAHHHH!!!
tyrannasaurs, ornithomimids, maniraptorans - oviraptorosaurs + therizinosaurs + dromaeosaurs. maniraptorans had the semilunate carpal that let them sharply fold back their hands. good for u. therizinosaurs are different. theyre freaky little guys /affectionate. their claw was found first and people thought it was a claw of a sea turtle. Alas.! it was this weird dude
dinosaur rise to power was slow, steady, and pushed by misfortune of others
CRETACEOUS END EXTINCTION! grey layer at cretaceous-paleogene border found w iridium tektite and shocked quartz which r all signs of meteorite impact... Where?!
big meteor hit shore of chicxulub mexico (found by odd formation of limestone sinkholes called cenotes). shockwaves tsunamis cloud of super heated rock and dust falls causing wildfires and raised temperatures so large animals without shelter Like dinosaurs die. and then they dont get the sun for years so photosynthetic organisms and plants die. dinosaurs at the top of the food chain go goodbye :(
and despite all of this i feel so incredibly underprepared for this exam because specific details and examples haunt me. if he asks to pick a list of archosaurs i'll start biting my hand. its fine. aim for a 75. am i right guys. guys. like its multiple choice so im just praying i remember. enough. ...??? it's over for me

Wait, how did Charlie end up in Adam care?
Charlie making a rehabilitation place on Earth make a lot more sense, sinners end up in Hell because they are sinful in LIFE, making them repent so they go to Heaven would probably be more sucessful and possibly garner more support, since no one like sinners
||🔱🍃 BUTTERFLY EFFECT 🍃🔱||
Charlie ended up in Adam's care because he is a product of infidelity and depravity (Lilith drugged Lucifer)
Despite Lucifer's pleas, Sera gave the order to take Charlie to hell and give her to the king there (Adam, but they don't know it's him).
Therefore, Adam raised Charlie outside of his bubble in this life. Making her see that the souls that fall there are evil and that they deserve eternal suffering.
Although Charlie is still Charlie. He has a heart of gold, but he knows that he does not have to help those who do not regret his actions, but rather he has to help those who are still LIFE.
In this AU she has almost all the support of heaven, so they let her. Giving her Vaggie as her protector and co-worker.
Adam visits her from time to time at her hotel, his work as king consumes all his time, he hates bureaucracy, everything was simpler in the Mesozoic era.

You have been teleported to various eras but can get an idol for each era. Which idol would you choose for
Mesozoic era (Dinosaur)
Stone Age
Middle Ages
Modern times
Wait, do you mean that I find their version of that era or that they come with me? Lol I assume the second one
In the mesozoic Era I would bring Giselle, because it would really dangerous and I need someone always ready to run and get to action. Her being a gym maniac is a perfect choice.
In the Stone Age I would bring Taeyeon, but dressed as in the INVU MV. She would be stunning, probably the will take her for a goodess, making everything more easy for us.
The middle ages is such a long period, it's like 1000 years. It goes from the fall of Rome to the Renaissance. Probably I would choose someone good in arts like Suzy.
And at the end I Will bring Jiheon with me in the modern times because she's good in studies, and living that era could really help her.
Thank you for the question, Anon ❤️
