“Please, Steve, I’ll give you a week's pay.” You lean across his desk, genuine desperation in your voice after an hour of begging.
“Not gonna happen.” He doesn’t even bother looking up from his computer.
“A month.” Your voice is starting to pitch up, something similar to anguish in your tone. Your offer finally gets a reaction out of him as his eyes widen, head tilting up.
“Jesus, you can’t be serious.” He’s examining your expression, trying to determine the sincerity of your claim.
“My entire Christmas bonus.”
“Okay, stop.” He sighs, giving you a sympathetic look. “We’re not allowed to switch.”
“When did you become such a stickler for the rules?” You cross your arms in front of your chest.
“It’s just a secret Santa. He’s our friend, whether you like it or not, you two are close and this shouldn’t be this big of a deal, now go, please, I need to finish up here so I can leave at a reasonable hour.” He loosens his tie as you sigh.
“It’s not just a secret Santa, Steve. It’s an opportunity for him to tell me that I once again didn’t do something right. No matter what I get him, it isn’t going to be good enough.” Even as you’re saying it you can see that he isn’t going to change his mind about this.
“He’s a dick to everybody. That’s inevitable, it just means he’s comfortable with you.” He’s already turning back to his work.
“Please, Steve.”
“No.”
You glare down at him, giving him your angriest look as his gaze tilts back up to meet yours.
When it’s clear that he isn’t going to switch you turn and leave, slamming his office door in the process.
“Don’t forget, I need you here early to help set up for the party!” His muffled voice seeps out into the hall as you walk away.
Once you’re out in your car and far away from prying eyes you unfold the damned slip of paper you’d drawn earlier today.
Javier P.
Of course, you got stuck with fucking Peña, a nickname you’d given him a few months ago. He absolutely hates it but the entire time you’ve worked for the DEA he’s gone out of his way to bother you. Sure, he’s your “friend”, in a strange, complicated way. But he still drives you up the wall with his constant need to one up you and the way he’s constantly making passes at women around the office.
And it’s not like you have any problems with him sleeping around, lord knows you’ve had a fair amount of one night stands, but he just has to hit on every woman you work with.
Every single woman, except you.
You’d never admit it of course but a part of you will always be self conscious about that fact. It doesn’t help that Javier absolutely adores bothering you at every possible moment. He loves nothing more than to pester, annoy, and mock you, spending nearly half his day leaning over your desk despite the million complaints you’ve sent Steve about his persistent partner.
He’ll sit on your desk, doing an endless amount of things to cause you distress. Like crowding you with his cigarette smell and vanilla cologne as he tells you you’re filling papers wrong, or telling you what colors to paint your nails, or solving your cases before you can even get to them, or teasing you about your shitty car. Today he wouldn’t stop bothering you about your weekend plans like he doesn’t already know exactly where you’ll be.
“Are you doing anything this weekend?” He’d asked with that devastating smirk and eyebrow raise combo.
“I have to go buy my secret Santa gift, just like everyone else.” You’d turned away, avoiding eye contact as he scoffed.
“What about Saturday?” He continued to pry, you wanted nothing more than to shove his perfect ass off your desk.
“The Christmas party, Javi. Just like everyone else.” You had sighed, squeezing the bridge of your nose as Emilia had walked past your desk. Javier immediately forgot your entire conversation as he turned to her.
“I love your nails.” He’d pushed his hair out of his face, holding his hand out to take hers, getting a closer look at the well manicured designs.
You had tuned out after that. Not wanting to be involved in the exchange as you went back to typing. Acutely aware of your own nails.
Red chipped paint.
You couldn’t help but wonder what it must be like to be the object of his affection.
It wouldn’t matter if he did hit on you, you would probably reject him anyway.
Probably.
It doesn’t matter, it’s never gonna happen so why let it bother you?
With a sigh you toss the paper into your cup holder, reaching to turn on the radio, maybe some Christmas music will make you feel better. Of course nothing happens as you turn up the volume knob but it makes you want to scream regardless.
Stupid fucking Peña.
Stupid broken radio, stupid shitty car.
“Fuck.” You mumble under your breath as you shift into drive.
Tumblr media
Before you know it you’re back in your car in the DEA office parking lot, this time a few things are different though.
You’re dressed nicer, trading your slacks in for a skirt and your dress shirt for a sweater. And of course you now have a small wrapped box in your lap.
Since you had yesterday off for the holiday you spent your Friday at the mall, searching for a gift for Javier. Eventually you had settled on three little things; Nicotine gum, mostly because you’ll get more work done if he isn’t constantly dragging you outside for his smoke breaks. He complains too much about going alone and it’s always been easier not to argue, now he can stay at your desk with his gum. Beard oil, the fancy stuff he always insists on using in his mustache. You’d bought him the wrong kind last year for his birthday and you still haven’t heard the end of it. And a lighter, you had to beg the shop owner to make an exception and do a same day engraving of his birthday.
Jesus.
You know way too much about him.
You arrived two hours early as requested by Steve to help him set up. With the wrapped box tucked under your arm you anxiously tap the patterned wrapping paper with your freshly manicured nails.
“You should paint your nails green, I love green.” He had said through a drag of his cigarette.
Why did you let that idiot's opinions influence this decision? You feel foolish. The green chrome polish shimmering in the street lights in the parking lot as you step into the building. You had extra time while you were waiting for the engraving and you just couldn’t help yourself when the salon was just a few stores away. The image of Javier holding your hand and examining your painted nails while telling you how nice they looked was just too tempting. Maybe he’d even ask if you did it just for him, and you could drag him into a closet at the party, the exact situation you watched unfold last year. Except in that scenario you weren’t the lucky lady he’d run off with that night.
There’s no time to be thinking like that.
You shake off whatever filth you were imagining as you look around the hectic mess of garland and glitter.
Steve is already stressing, setting up tables as you set your gift under the tree before getting to work. The office is already mostly decorated but with his new position as supervisor Steve is insistent that everything be perfect his first Christmas in charge. So you plate food, and you mix drinks exactly as he wants them, and you hold the ladder steady when he insists on putting more lights up. When you’ve got about a half an hour before guests start arriving you’re finishing up and last minute touches, the two of you crowded around a drink tower.
The tension from your conversation yesterday seems to have fizzled out as you become engrossed in your work, when you’ve both finished he gives you an appreciative look.
“Thank you, seriously, it means a lot.” You help him adjust his tie as he straightens out his shirt.
“Anytime, although I’m surprised you didn’t just ask Javier.” You pat his shoulder as you finish, brushing a stray blonde hair out of his eyes.
He laughs, a nervous chuckle that makes you raise an eyebrow but when you open your mouth to comment on it he lets out a relieved sigh as the first of your coworkers arrive.
Tumblr media
More people show up than you could have expected.
You stay near Steve for most of the beginning until he gets dragged away by one of the higher ups who had made an appearance, leaving you alone to sip your drink against the back wall. You hum along to a Christmas song that plays loud enough to drown out any conversation you might eavesdrop on to entertain yourself in his absence, your eyes scan the crowds as you try to match up the people you work with with their spouses.
You’re getting ready to find another group to talk to when you catch a glimpse of him standing against the opposite wall, talking to Bonnie, the woman who works in the cubicle next to yours.
Fucking Peña. Dressed in a stupidly tight green dress shirt.
You should leave them alone, especially if he’s trying to make a move on her. But you can’t help it as you make your way around the room towards them, a vague sense of jealousy settling in your stomach.
String lights twinkle across the ceiling of the office, creating a warm ambience throughout the space, just as you’re about to tap him on the shoulder you overhear their conversation.
“I had to beg Steve to switch with me, took an hour of convincing and a week's paycheck but it’ll be worth it to see the look on her face.” His back is to you as he leans in closer to Bonnie.
He’s probably talking about one of the other women from the office. Steve probably had someone Javier was trying to impress and that’s why Steve didn’t want to trade with you, he had already promised his pick to Javier.
Whatever, you can’t be too bothered about that. It does make you want to return to your spot on the other side of the room but you don’t get the chance to as the music is turned down rather suddenly.
One of the secretaries, Benjamin, stands on a chair, making an announcement that it’s time to do the secret Santa. You manage to twist through the crowds so Javier never sees you, finding his gift and bringing it to where he now stands, simultaneously keeping an eye out for your own gift.
You hand him the box, watching the way his face lights up.
“You picked me?” He grins as you nod, carefully peeling back the wrapping paper as you feel a tap on your shoulder. Benjamin waits behind you, leaning in to whisper while you watch Javier open his gift.
“It was short notice so we didn’t have time to get you a back up gift but your secret Santa told us at the last minute that he forgot to get you something, he promised to bring in something after New Years, I’m so sorry.” You feel a little disappointed as he murmurs but it isn’t that big of a deal, it’s a busy time of year and people can forget things.
“No worries, do you know who it was? I’d like to at least tell them it’s fine.” You turn away from Javier as he smiles at the nicotine gum, Benjamin's eyes flicker from your face to Javier’s before he gives you a sympathetic look, walking away.
Javier traded for your name?
As your head tilts to look at him now you can see the smirk he’s now sporting.
“ …but it’ll be worth it to see the look on her face.”
Javier had made a conscious effort to get your name just so he could not get you something.
Huh.
That doesn’t feel great. The look he gets to see on your face is betrayal and then just sadness. You don’t really care what the reason for his decision is, you turn and walk away from him regardless. If he tries to say something to you it’s drowned out by the music that starts once again.
Why are you so upset over some stupid joke? If it had been anyone else you wouldn’t have cared, you’d have brushed it off as a harmless accident but this wasn’t an accident.
Maybe he didn’t really think of you as a friend.
Maybe all of the teasing and one-upmanship really was from a place of animosity and you were just too blind and too infatuated to see it. You want to cry but you don’t want to give him the satisfaction so you sift through the bowl of keys, searching for the Star Wars keychain attached to your lanyard but you can’t find it. The combination of the blaring Christmas songs with the frustration you’re currently feeling only makes you more emotional.
You don’t want to go to the bathrooms where you might run into someone and you can’t go to Steve’s office because he might be talking to his supervisor, so you go to the only place you know there won’t be people.
Javier’s office.
You walk as quickly as you can, slipping inside as you slam the door shut behind you, clicking the lock in place before turning around, resting against the door as you feel tears spilling from your eyes. It isn’t until he clears his throat that your head snaps up.
Today is just not your day.
Did he know you’d come here? How the hell did he beat you here? He’s fidgeting with the lighter you bought him, watching it light and go out as he sits with your keys in his other hand.
Your face feels hot as you take in the sight of him.
“Give me my keys.” You hold your hand out, wiping your eyes with the other as you wait. Of course he doesn’t hand them over, that would be too easy and today is insisting on being difficult.
“I really liked your gift. Seriously, this is… outrageously thoughtful.” He murmurs, seemingly unaware of your mood until he takes a closer look at you, his expression shifting as he realizes your eyes are rimmed with red. “Why are you so upset? What happened?” He slides open a drawer, tossing your keys into his desk while you consider calling a cab.
What a foolish question.
How could he possibly not know?
“I want to leave, I’m sick of this party.” You turn to leave, maybe Steve can drive you home.
“Come on, the parties barely started.” He’s on his feet, he doesn’t try to corner you, if anything he sets himself against the wall.
“And I want to leave.” When you reach for the doorknob he grabs your wrist, holding it as he stares at you, a look of impatience crosses his face.
“Don’t tell me you’re mad about the secret Santa.” His brows furrow.
“This isn’t about a stupid secret Santa.”
“It sure seems like it is.” He’s still holding your wrist, why is he still holding your wrist?
This isn’t about the secret Santa. It’s a lot more than that, and after ages of keeping your thoughts to yourself in front of him you just let it out.
“This is about the fact that you don’t even care about me enough to make any sort of effort. I know you deliberately chose me, you specifically chose to do this to me and I don’t care that it’s just a stupid prank. It still- It’s still a shitty thing to do.” Your voice starts cracking half way through and you can feel your eyes welling up again but it doesn’t matter anymore, you were wrong, the two of you aren’t friends.
“So this is about the secret Santa.”
Of course he wouldn’t get it.
“You’re an idiot.” You finally pull your wrist from him.
You aren’t sure what else to do so you shove him, his back hitting the wall with a soft thud as you push past him to get to his desk, hoping to grab your keys but he catches your waist first.
“Can you stop being so stubborn for five seconds and just let me explain myself?” You can tell his patience is wearing thin, his voice is strained as he pulls you back against him, caging you against his chest with his arms.
“Fuck Javi- let me go-” You try to kick his knees but he anticipates it, shifting his legs to avoid you.
“Just wait- listen to me.” He swings you around a bit as he tries to still you, you can feel his breath hitching, the buttons of his shirt digging into your back. The two of you thrash around for another moment until you freeze, feeling something poking your hip. When he realizes why you stopped putting up a fight he lets you go in an instant. “Shit- I-I’m sorry.” He stammers as you turn around towards him, eyes wide.
You never thought you’d see Javier Peña flustered yet here he is. When you take a step back his cheeks are burning red, his fingers twitch nervously at his side, and as much as you try to ignore it, his pants are tighter than usual. (And considering how tight they usually are this is quite a feat.) He won’t look you in the eye.
“It- It’s fine, Javi.” You adjust the hem of your skirt, trying to fix your hair. You just can’t catch a break today. “It was an accident, there was a lot of- of friction and it happens. I think I should just go.” You stutter a bit trying to find the right words. This entire evening has been catastrophic, and you’re more than ready to call it a night.
“It’s not an accident.” He mumbles, finally looking at you, not bothering with subtlety as he adjusts himself. “You should probably go.”
If it’s not an accident you don’t want to go.
You want to stay and keep making accidents, starting with rushing forward into him, taking his face in your hands and kissing him. Which is exactly what you do. At first he doesn’t react and you worry you read the situation wrong but when you pull away, just an inch, his hands envelop you.
Hips, waist, back, shoulders, hair. He’s everywhere, all consuming as his teeth graze your lips, in an instant your backside hits his desk.
When he finally does remove his lips from yours his are slick and a tiny bit swollen, his pupils swallow his irises whole.
“I loved your gift, I wasn’t joking, it’s perfect and the last thing I want is for you to think that I don’t care about you. Of course we’re friends, you-” As he rambles on you ball up the end of his tie, unceremoniously shoving it between his teeth.
“Talk later, this now.” You grab the bottom of your sweater, pulling it up over your head, watching his jaw tense at the sight of your chest, his hands playing with the strap of your bra as you hop up onto his desk. Hiking your skirt up, he slots himself between your legs, your own fingers push your panties to the side as he reaches behind you, easily twisting the clasp of your bra to release it, tossing it to the side as his enormous palms engulf your breasts.
You dip your fingers into the wetness between your legs, briefly taking a moment to wonder how you found yourself here. Just moments ago you were ready to leave and consider your friendship with Javier over, yet now you’re spread out on his desk, on display for him as you sink your fingers into your eager cunt.
You don’t get to linger on the thought for long because he groans into the fabric of his tie and you’re pulled back into the moment.
Jesus you’re soaked.
You have no trouble pushing two slick digits into yourself. You can feel the outline of him against your thigh and you know that you need to warm yourself up to take him. He’s too engrossed in your tits to do it right now and you’ve waited too long for this, you don’t want to wait, you just want to have him.
He’s tender at first, squeezing and softly tracing the outline of your areola until he seemingly can’t control himself any longer and he pinches, rolling your nipples between his thumb and pointer finger as your whine. Back arching of the oak of his desk as you curl your own fingers. Even through the tie his moans are still somehow louder than yours, you’re briefly worried about someone hearing as you let out a whimper while he tweaks your nipple but the music’s so loud at the party you can hear Mariah Carey from here.
You don’t stop for a second, putting your focus on reaching the peak that you find yourself already getting startlingly close to. You can feel yourself pulsing as you pick up the pace, reveling in the way his eyes devour the very sight of you. You’re agonizingly close when he grabs your wrist, removing your fingers carefully as you try and resist, wanting to finish what you started, you’re about to whine when he begins unzipping his pants. You can feel your pussy clenching at the very sight of him, of course he isn’t wearing any underwear under his dress pants so the second his zipper is fully down his cock springs free.
Javier fucking Peña has a gorgeous cock.
Standing stiff and proud without either one of you even having to touch it. Pretty and pink on the tip, already leaking down the shaft. And heavy, as he takes it in his hand, his other hand gripping your waist as lines himself at your entrance. He takes a moment, eyes scanning your face, silently asking for permission.
You can’t nod fast enough but the second that you do he slides into you.
You could never conjure up something this good in your fantasies. The way he fills you, stretching you open as he whimpers into the fabric of his tie, you like that he listened, that he kept it in his mouth this long. His strokes are needy and fast, like he’s been waiting for this for so long and now he can’t help but be ravenous. You were already painfully close before he filled you with his perfect cock, it takes only a few minutes for you to be right back there. His fingers dig into your waist so hard that you’re certain he’ll leave marks as he slams in and out of you, pulling out almost entirely with every thrust.
You’re vaguely aware of the sound of his trinkets rolling off his desk and onto the floor.
“Javi, Javi, Javi.” Between gasps you chant his name, the sound encouraging him as he pushes in deep, his pelvis grinding against your clit until you see stars. Your cunt clenching around him as your orgasm is ripped out of you. Messy and loud and blurry, he fucks you through it. You’re so blissed out you can barely focus on the persistent pounding into you until you manage to come back to your senses and his hands leave your waist, instead intertwining with your fingers as his hips twitch forward and you feel him hastily pull out of you.
He spits his tie out, opting to instead bite your shoulder as he comes, the groan that leaves his throat is obscene. Raspy and filthy as he collapses down on top of you, the two of you sweating and gasping amongst the paperwork and pens now scattered across his desk.
Did that really just happen?
He manages to collect himself first, leaning back and tucking himself into his pants before quickly tending to you. He grabs a few tissues, wiping your stomach where the product of your activities lay, before redressing you, slipping the flats that had slipped off, back onto your feet, pulling your skirt back down to cover you as he slides your panties back into place, and retrieving your bra and sweater, lifting you into a sitting position as he redresses you, kissing your cheeks, nose, and forehead the entire time.
“All good?” He whispers, gentler than you’ve ever heard him as you nod, grinning.
“Good enough to make me forgive you for not getting me a present.” You reach into his drawer, grabbing your keys before sliding off of his desk.
“Maybe this was your present.” He tilts his head, kissing you again, smiling all the while.
“That was the perfect gift then.” Probably the best you’ve ever gotten.
“Are you gonna stay for the rest of the party?” He takes your hands in his, his thumbs absentmindedly rubbing circles into your skin.
“I think I need to go to bed after that.” You laugh as you jingle your keys, turning towards the door as he catches your lips in another kiss.
It makes your heart flutter. The continued affection makes you think this isn’t a one time thing. You want more. You want conversations about feelings, and to talk about what just happened, you want to feel him inside you again, and the look in his eyes tells you that you’re going to get all of that. But right now you’re tired, so the rest can wait.
“Can I walk you to your car?” You nod as he murmurs.
He doesn’t let go of your hand, walking you out of the building towards your car, opening the door for you and giving you one last kiss with a promise that he’d call you tomorrow, before you watched him walk back into the building.
Your phone buzzes as you turn your key in the ignition, the sound of Wham! fills the car, Last Christmas playing softly. You take your phone out of your pocket, checking the text notification from Javier.
[ i forgot to tell you how pretty your nails are. merry christmas hermosa ]
Your head turns up in surprise as you realize your radio is working. A new radio system is installed in the center of your dashboard, with a little green bow taped to the top, and a paper tag with Javi’s familiar messy handwriting.

"Together forever..."
Tumblr media
⋆°• ☁︎ - Celebrating Christmas and his birthday
Feat. Michael Kaiser
AN: Happy Birthday, Michael Kaiser, and Merry Christmas!!<3
Tumblr media
For Kaiser, December 25th was nothing special. To most people, was it Christmas, and even for him, his birthday? Of course, but growing up with his dad, the day meant nothing, another day of abuse and wishes that he believed would never come true. Well until this year, the first year he had celebrated Christmas with somebody else, somebody that he loved and cared about. All starting off with a late morning, even if you were up early there was no way Kaiser was getting up that early, even if it was 9 AM. Then heading downstairs to start on breakfast and gather around the tree, you, him, and the stray puppy you two adopted when you first moved in. The second you handed him a present after he had given you a couple himself he looked, shocked, before it melted down to a little bit of confusion. “..For me..? You didn’t have to get me anything, you know that right?” Even after many months of him saying how much he hated gifts, and didn’t want anything for Christmas you still made an effort to try and get something he would like, even if you gave no clues about any potential gifts. “Well yeah, but come on, it’s Christmas! And not to mention your birthday, I had to get you something…”
He only gave a small nod, as you helped your puppy get her gift before she ran off into another room with the new toy.
His present however was a pretty flat gift, even as he looked it over the tag had just said “Michael” on it. You could only notice his confusion and come sit down by him “It’s from Santa, silly!” “Santa’s not real.” “Not with that attitude he’s not!” He rolled his eyes as he unwrapped the gift, now sitting in his hands was the Desperado - 180G Vinyl, signed. Kaiser could only look in disbelief at the vinyl in his hands, his favorite band, with his favorite song, signed. It must have been a Christmas miracle. That was before another gift was handed to him “...This one is from me..” He looked back up at you, placing the Vinyl on the cushion next to him before grabbing the envelope from your hands. Turning it over, he unfolded the flap and grabbed something out of it. 2 tickets. Cruise tickets. “You said when you were younger all you asked for was freedom… What better way to get that than traveling all over, being free from responsibilities, and free from the world, being able to stay in your own little space while you see everything you never got to see before, only downside is your stuck with me the whole time” You laughed a little as he tossed them to the side, standing up and hugging you.  “Liebling, I didn’t need anything… you’ve already given me everything I asked for.. I just need you..”
The puppy soon came back into the room, yipping about something, the toy long forgotten as the dog came and pressed their head to both yours and Kaiser’s legs.
This wouldn’t be a day either of you would be forgetting soon, your happy family finally teaching Kaiser that December 25th could be a good day, if you spent it with the right people.

11th Dec. - Temptation
It's a bustling atmosphere, a wry cocktail mix of merry Christmas songs playing overhead and a grouchy Dean cooped up with you in the fitting room. “Maybe I should get the other tie…” you mumble to yourself, mentally going through different outfits for Dean.
“Please don‘t…” you hear Dean interject next to you, but you ignore him, focused on the task to get you both through this. With a contemplating hum, your eyes scan the assortment of outfits you had picked for him for the upcoming Christmas dinner with your family. You decide to start out with the white shirt, your hand running along the fabrics to smooth out some wrinkles.
Dean suddenly drapes his muscular arm around your neck, heavy and warm against your cheek before he pulls you in close to tuck your head under his chin where he places a soft kiss on your head. “Can we please go home?” He mutters against your hair, still keeping you close to distract himself with your scent (and to keep the clothings out of your reach).
You push a bit into his sides, turning in the narrow cabin to face him. “Nope, we‘re not done yet,” you chuckle as you tilt your head to glance up at him with a teasing smile. But your amusement dies down the moment you see his face; His eyes briefly pull shut before they go wide again in an effort to hold your gaze, his head visibly hard to keep up. Dean looks exhausted. You both didn't get much sleep lately, and on top of that, you know he is bored out of his mind, not being a fan of the holiday shopping spree.
“That bad?” you ask, although you already see the answer in his half-lidded eyes.
“Mhm,” he lets out a tired hum while he nuzzles his nose against your hair, sniffing the sweet smell of it. His voice is hoarse and quiet, seemingly left of any energy to speak properly, “‘m real tired…”
“Just this one, then we‘re done. Okay?” you insist while you reach up to gently tug at the front of his jacket, pulling it off and dropping it onto the small plastic stool in the corner of the cabin.
“You’ve been sayin’ that for the past 3 hours…” He groans and drops his forehead to your shoulder, “Please.” He begs now, his thumb gently caressing your upper arm.
Yeah, okay. You might have overdone it a bit. But it was the first day in months where you had a day - an entire day - with no hunting business whatsoever. So, naturally you took the chance. You‘d been running from one shop to the next since the early morning. Which wasn‘t that much of a deal for you, but clearly you overestimated Dean‘s shopping-stamina.
“Come on, we’re almost done,” you coo softly while you wiggle yourself free from his grip. “You wanna look good, don't you?”
His arms reluctantly slide off your shoulders to fall heavily next to his sides and his head drops forward for a moment. With a low grunt, he catches himself mid-air just to slump with his shoulder against the mirror, almost knocking into you in the process. “You kiddin' me? I look fucking great in anything...” he rolls his eyes and tries to argue cockily, but his tired words lack his usual bite.
Unperturbed, your hands effortlessly work their way down his buttons. He watches your stubborn determination with a frustrated look, but he’s too tired to put up any fight. “Up with your arms big baby.” You instruct and without waiting for his reaction, you first pull his shirt off and then unbuckle his belt to pull his pants off as well, stripping him naked for what feels like the twentieth time today.
You turn around to fetch a white shirt and marine blue pants off the hanger, matched with the first one out of the six suits, all waiting to be tried on. Meanwhile you hear him grumble something about ‘relentless damn woman‘ as he‘s rubbing the space between his eyebrows. You roll your eyes but keep going, pulling one outfit off the hanger after the other while Dean’s muttering disgruntled words under his breath. The entire time you try to navigate around Dean, but it was a difficult task with him almost keeling over and burying you alive in the narrow cabin at any given moment.
After a while you turn away again to finally fetch the last piece. “Your cute ass still red from all the whippin’?” he asks out of nowhere. And this time all of sudden his gravelly and slurred voice was way louder than before, enough to get you to whirl around with a panicked expression. A lazy, cocky smirk forms on his lips when he realizes that he‘s finally found a way to throw you off course and draw your attention away from the clothings, “I bet it is… the way you were whimperin’… an’ me whipping an’ fu-” your hand darts out to clasp it over his lips, mouthing a silent “shut it!”, praying that no one heard him. But he just continues to mumble, his words now muffled by your hand. You shoot him a glare, watching how he enjoys your flustered state with a tired version of his trademark cheshire grin, standing there in nothing but white boxers – tenting big time.
You had learned a while ago that when Dean is exhausted and practically running on steam, he has four phases; First he turns grouchy and irritated. When you won’t give in, his annoyance soon crumbles and he’s desperate and pleading. Still no luck? He’ll huff and puff and grumble in frustration like a child. You’re still relentless? Dean will lose every bit of the little inhibitions he has, and turn into a tired ‘n horny mess.
He gently grabs your hand on his mouth and places a kiss to your palm before his tongue suddenly darts out to lick it. You almost screech at the unexpected wetness on the inside of your hand and instantly pull it back. Dean grins mischievously with a hint of pride at his dirty move. “Y’know… I could use some juice,” he drawls out before he pulls his bottom lip back to graze his teeth across it. You stare up at him with raised eyebrows, the realization dawning on you; Dean has entered the fourth phase.
“Heh-heh,” Dean lets out his typical cocky chuckle in reaction to your lack of response. His half-lidded eyes glint with mischief when his hand trails down your back - but you swat it away before it reaches its destination.
“Dean, focus! Not here.” You hiss in a low voice, trying to get his mind out of the gutter. But despite your slight annoyance, you can’t fight off the small amused smile creeping up on your face.
“Oh come on baby, gimmi somethin’... please.” He mutters, leaning closer again to shower your scrunched up face with little kisses now. His strong arms are loosely draped over your shoulders, still heavy as they caress your back with slow circles. “I’ll be good… I promise…” He nudges your cheek with his nose before he drops his head to your shoulder, mumbling against your neck, “I need you… please….” His voice takes on that desperate, pleading tone which for some reason always slips into a sudden extra thick Texan accent when he’s this deadbeat. “‘m serious… I’ll be good… an’… an’ I’ll try on whatever you want… an’ be yer mule for the rest of the day…”
That earned himself a chuckle of yours to which he lifts his head to look at you with a lazy smile. For some reason you can’t help but feel like this cuddly, touchy, needy and hella knackered Texan-boy version of his has got something incredibly endearing.
He goes back to pepper your exposed skin with kisses and despite his half-comatose state, he manages to hit every single right spot on your neck all the way up to your ear, sending a shiver down your spine, right to your core. His stubbles brush against your jawline while you nuzzle your nose against the side of his face, the smell of him suddenly much more intense and tantalizing. Without realizing it, you tilt your head to the side, gaining him more access. Meanwhile his hands travel down your back once more, but this time you allow him to move on, to squeeze and massage your ass. You have to stifle a small moan against his bare chest and moments later your lips start planting kisses all over his abs before you can even register it. Dean groans into the crook of your neck, his hot breath tingling your skin while his fingers dig into the fabric of your jeans.
But then you suddenly tense up and pull slightly back as you could’ve sworn you heard a noise from outside the fitting room. Wait - Shit. Right. You curse inwardly when the realization of you being in public slaps you right out of your mindless state. “Dean, wait-” you mutter in slight panic and Dean freezes instantly, his lips still pressed against your skin while he glances at you from the corner of his eyes with a raise of his brows.
“What if somebody hears us?” You continue, your rational mind clinging to your fear of getting caught.
Dean raises his head, just enough to whisper softly against your ear, his hoarse voice rumbling and reassuring despite his state, “s’okay… there’s no one else down here… nuthin’ to worry, sunny.” You raise an eyebrow at the new version of ‘sunshine’ but don’t get to comment on it, as he continues in a teasing tone. “An’ if anyone does happen to hear us, they’ll jus’ know we’re havin’ a real fun time.”
“But…” you start out, your increasingly clouded mind desperately trying to come up with some argument but ultimately giving in to the lips on your skin and the pooling heat between your legs.
It’s an interesting thing, how quickly the fear of getting caught can turn into excitement, only fuelling one’s desire to go on. The temptation to test the limits. Just a bit more. Just a kiss more, a touch more - okay, one soft moan won’t be enough to get anyone's attention, right? Yeah alright, that was a bit loud, Dean, but if we keep it down we can keep this going… just a tad bit longer.
“Nothing more than a little hanky-panky - okay?” You state between kisses.
“Nuthin’ more than a little hanky-panky.” He repeats huskily.
Minutes later that poor stool of the corner creaks under the combined weight of Dean, and you straddling his thighs, bouncing up and down on his thick cock. Your forehead drops to rest on his head, your teeth tugging at strands of his dark blond hair whenever he pulls you down by your hipbones. He groans into your shirt, his face dug between your breasts in a weak effort to muffle his sounds. You stifle a whimper when he suddenly grazes his teeth along the fabrics, pinching your nipple with his teeth. Your nails claw at the skin of his bare back and his neck, and your lips are firmly pressed against his hair as you try to hold in your own moans and your frantic panting.
The stool squeaks in protest when your rhythm picks up its pace and Dean starts to buck his hips to meet you halfway. A loud guttural moan escapes your throat when the tip of his cock hits a sensitive spot, but your sound is quickly muffled by Deans hand. “Shhh… let’s not alarm the staff…” He whispers into your ear with a sly smirk. You nod and he pulls his hand away again to clash his lips with yours, swallowing each other’s exclaims of pleasure while you both feel the need to go harder, deeper. Dean tightens his grip on your hips and you hook your feet around the stools legs. He slams you down on his cock, feeling it grow harder with each thrust when you start clenching your walls around him and feel yourself grow closer to that sweet release. A few moments later, all three of you are trembling and groaning, so close to the breaking point that - Hold on a second.
But it’s too late, you’re both too far gone to form any thoughts now, your bodies working mindlessly to get you over that edge. At last, a deep, muffled groan echoes through the room as you both come undone and collapse on the stool, shaking and panting heavily. Unfortunately that’s the last push needed to send the stool over the edge as well; before either of you realize what’s going on, its legs give in with a row of shuddering cracks and you all three crash into the floor in a cacophony of plastic snapping, a high pitched scream, and a half-strangled “Son of a bitch!”

announcing your relationship!!
*christmas album schlatt ahead*
you and schlatt had been dating since the end of 2021 when you met in texas
when he decided he wanted to move back to new york, you immediately knew you wanted to follow him there
but here was the issue
no one knew you two were dating.
ofc there was speculation, but it was never confirmed, and you guys werent stupid
if the both of you randomly moved to new york you would never hear the end of it
and you both always knew you wanted to announce it in a fun way rather then through rumors
so when schlatt had announced he would be releasing a christmas album you knew it was time
you two had been friends for a long time as far as the fans knew, but you both felt it was time to finally announce your relationship so you could move on and live your lives, rather then hide from people
schlatt was going to move back in late may, and your plan was to join him in early august
the three months you guys spent apart only confirmed that this was the right decision for the both of you
when initially recording the songs of you two together, ill be honest, it was a fucking struggle
laughter, voice cracks and some small segments of yelling were filling up the recordings, rather then actual singing
but eventually when the album was released, fans immediately noticed the ft. of their favorite creator next to three different songs
fans went wild.
(understandable, i would too.)

Heya, @niexigo! I'm your Secret Santa! I hope you enjoy this little fic focused on Moon and a little romantic moment of seeing Christmas lights together! I had so much fun writing this and I hope you enjoy! Merry Christmas! <3
Lights on the Water
Moon x Reader Word Count: ~2,000 Warnings: N/A
Tumblr media
Winter in the city means lights. Christmas lights, of course. The LED hues have begun to pop up like poinsettias along every home and elegant crystal white displays are out in front of every store. This is the best time of year—and there is much reason to celebrate.
A lot has changed since robots, animatronics, and any machine that wished to breathe gained recognition of their sentience. The last few months have been a swirling storm. Protests and hatred bring a cold shiver around the world, but it has not stopped the evolution of new life.
You are grateful. Without the chaos, you wouldn’t be here, holding an animatronic’s hand.
Your Moon. His digits are long, painted in silver and blue hues. He cradles your mitten wrapped palm in the pocket of his silver wool coat. It’s almost comical how much bigger he is than you.
Standing well over your height, with limbs and hands to match, he engulfs you against his side in a bid to keep you warm against the December chill. You’ve seen so many models of animatronics, both humanoid and entirely machine, but Moon slots somewhere in the middle with his discus shaped head and deceptively thin limbs. His expressions are a bit more advanced, his mouth being able to move and his eyes able to crease and expand to emphasize whatever he may be saying.
You stand together at the entrance of the city park. It boasts an impressive size, with plenty of acres for dogs, joggers, and little children who need to expel vast amounts of energy from their wiggling bodies. There’s even a sizable pond featuring a bridge crossing its width and holds tiny fish and ducks—though you doubt you’ll catch a glimpse of those animals in this frozen season.
The darkness is steep even in early evening, and carries a blue tinge that seems to spread like frost through the winter. Yet, it is perfect. The lights in the distance wrapped around trees, poles, and shaped structures are warm beacons.
You lift your free hand to tug on Moon’s scarf. The silver and deep blue stripes wrap snugly around his spindly neck, but you fear the cool air might be hard on his inner workings. It is well below freezing. He tilts his head. His nightcap swings softly over his shoulder with a soft trinkle of a bell. The low glow of his red optics softens upon you.
“My internal regulation is a lot more advanced than yours,” he rasps, touched with mirth.
“I know that, but you weren’t built to be outdoors.” You tuck one end of the scarf into his wool coat. The thick and warm material reassures you while your fingertips are seized by the bitter cold air. “Let me know if you need anything, okay? A kiss to warm your cheek, an embrace to melt any ice in your system. As a human, I am naturally above the freezing temperature, and at your service.”
His scarlet-hued gaze crinkles in humor. He lifts a hand. Though you’ve found that he tends to run cool (thanks to his advanced internal regulation system) he can warm himself up to a decree that makes it all too easy for you to fall asleep in his arms on movie nights.
“Hm, yes, you are very rosy-cheeked,” Moon murmurs. He palms your cheek, and your eyelids immediately flutter against the blissful heat of his touch. “Whatever would I do without my darling human to save me?”
“You’d freeze and become a pole or something. They might hang wreaths on you.” You snort at your own joke.
“Har har,” he says dryly. “Snowball, leave the comedy to me.”
You lean deeper into his touch. His thumb caresses softly along your face, drawing underneath your eye before sweeping back a strand of hair that fell out of your beanie. This close, his optics dust you in a soft red glow.
Your favorite color of late has been red. His red eyes. The red ribbons he ties around his wrists with golden bells. The red ruffles around his neck. He’s bundled now, but he still looks at you with the scarlet light that makes you melt.
“Come on. The lights aren’t going to see themselves.” You force yourself to straighten out of the delicious comfort of his temperature. He chuckles, a mischievous sound that now fills you with a giddiness.
“Lead the way, Rudolph.” He boops your nose and turns to the entrance. Though, he doesn’t take a step without gathering your hand back in his and setting it within the safe confines of his coat pocket. He squeezes your palm once. You squeeze back.
He’s never seen the lights before. He told you this once as the holiday season approached, and it appalled you. Of course, how could he have seen any Christmas decorations and displays outside of the Freddy Fazbear Mega Pizzaplex? From what he’s told you, and from what you’ve gathered out of his selected details, the work conditions were not humane. Why would they be for machines? But regardless, you made him a promise, and he shared his enthusiasm.
Through the twinkling blue evening, you and him stroll inside the park. The very first lights are trees engulfed in lights. One purple, one yellow, one green, one red. You have not the foggiest idea how painstakingly long it must take to wrap each bough and the whole trunk of the tree until it’s a blazing torch in the night. The path winds softly through the burning bright trees.
Moon turns his face up towards the light. You subtly watch him from the corner of your eyes, trying to study his reaction without making him feel like the focus of your attention. You’ve visited the park many times over the years to see the lights. Your only hope is that he finds it as beautiful as you do.
His optics are low in comparison to the bright bulbs. The light beams onto his faceplate, highlighting the curve of his shadowy crescent and coloring his pale other half. It catches on his cheeks. His teeth grin but there is a glimmering awe to the edge of his constant smile.
You hold his arm, your other hand still smugly dipped into his pocket.
“There’s so much more,” you whisper to him, “but it’s pretty, don’t you think?”
“Yeah, pretty,” he answers in a gentle crackle of static.
He turns to look down at you. He stops a moment, and stares. You blink. Is there something on your face?
His expression softens before he pecks your cheek with a kiss.
“Come on,” he tugs you further down the path, “There’s more, right?”
Your face heats not simply due to the warmth of his mouth. The tip of your boot almost snags on your other leg as you try to step in time with him. In a hot haze, you force yourself to inhale a great frosty breath and bring yourself back into focus.
The animatronic knows exactly what he’s doing to you.
Deeper into the park, the displays begin popping up along the path. Instead of twinning around trees and filling the fronds like a forest fire, the lights take shapes after candy canes, reindeer, snowflakes, and Santa’s sleigh.
“The kids would love this,” Moon says as you pass by a golden row of bows and ribbons twisting down the sidewalk. His job as Daycare Attendant remains a preference of his. The daycare he owns and runs, no longer attached to the Fazbear name, is just down the road from your apartment and his.
“Oh yeah, I always see families here,” you nod. You two arrived later—after the early rush in the hope of not being crowded and forced to move quickly to let others have their turn. It seems to be working for the most part.
He hums thoughtfully while continuing down to a section dedicated to Christmas toys. An elephant with polka dots and a dolly with red braids and blue bows in her hair smile at you and Moon walking along.
You shiver once. Your poor fingers are exposed to the elements, even with the defense of a glove, and suffering. A low chuckle emits from Moon. Before you can protest, he steps around your, freeing your one hand to stuff the other into his coat pocket.
“What will humans become if they freeze?” he asks, deadpan. You pull a face at him. He breezes past your pout. “Popsicles? I could sprinkle sugar on you.”
“Ew,” you say, but laugh. “But probably. A human popsicle sounds about right.”
“Sorry, but I can’t let that happen,” Moon shakes his head. “You fragile humans.”
“Not fragile,” you announce, but he pulls your beanie down over your ears all the same.
The display continues into a little north pole display featuring polar bears and igloos and sliding penguins. (You’re pretty sure penguins don’t live in the north pole, but who are you to criticize art?) Moon points out an ice fishing hole. You ask if he has any wanderlust for the great outdoors. He pauses and considers that he might want to experience a camping trip, but that’s more of Sun’s thing.
You make a mental note of that.
The path darkens as it winds further along. Moon walks closely beside you. His stride is considerably slower, thanks in part to you and your comparatively short legs. He doesn’t seem to mind. His digits interlock between your fingers. Cradling your hand, you sight at the sweet relief of his warmth easing the numbing sting of the cold. Your other hand, however, is beginning to freeze once more.
You can hold out. You’re not fragile. No matter how much Moon likes to tease.
Around the bend, the path lowers into a curving circle around a great pond. Moon lingers in the slightest as you watch him again. His eyes roam over the floating lights set in the shape of trees upon the water. The colors gleam and dance along the surface, reflecting yellow, red, silver, and soft blues in a bright effect.
“This is my favorite,” you say softly into his shoulder.
He dips his head closer to you, though his eyes don’t wander from the beautiful displays. The twinkling lights reflect off of the water. You tug Moon further along the path following the edge of the water. Walking slowly, you allow him to drink in full view, enjoying the peaceful calm of a winter’s night with such warm lights.
“Beautiful,” Moon says once you finish a full loop around the pond.
You make a soft sound of content and lean closer against him. He releases your hand to wrap an arm around your shoulder and tug you in close. For a blissful heartbeat, you both watch the dazzling display, two mirrored versions of lights divided only by the waterline.
Moon suddenly laughs. You lift your head up in confusion to stare at him.
“You’re shivering.” He squeezes you a little tighter into his embrace. Indeed, once pressed against his wool coat, you realize your muscles are working hard to bring your body’s temperature back up.
“I’m fine,” you say, but pause, “They always sell hot chocolate at the very end of the path.”
“Alright,” he turns and lowers himself to you. He smuggles softly against your neck, and you breathe out in solace as the heat of his faceplate finds the cooled parts of your skin just under your chin. “Let’s get you some hot chocolate, then I’ll take you home.”
“Sounds good,” you murmur, your jawline bumping against his nightcap slightly.
Moon rubs your shoulders in soothing circles, his heat slipping through your coat.
“Thank you,” he murmurs.
You smile though he cannot see it.
“Your welcome, sweetheart.” You think for a moment. “Does that mean you had a good time?”
“I did, and I still am,” he straightens. His grin is gentle in the darkness. The red of his eyes fills you with a molten adoration. “I think we should get going before you become a human popsicle.”
“Yeah, yeah,” you try to wave away his concern. You, however, grab his hand and press it to your mouth. Your kiss holds softly to his palm. His fingers curl gently against your cheek.
“Merry Christmas, Moon,” you whisper once you release his hand.
“Merry Christmas, snowdrop,” he answers in kind.

Merry (early) Christmas! May I request Kaeya, Childe, Ayato, Neuvillette, and Wriothesley finding their s/o, who gets cold easily, wearing their jacket/coat?

⌗:, pairings: kaeya, childe, ayato, neuvillette & wriothesley w/ gn!reader
⌗:, extra: happy late Christmas I couldn't finish it because I was worn out </3

˗ˏˋ ꒰ KAEYA ꒱ ˎˊ˗
Its a little secret that none knows about. The coat he wears and what you wear on cold wintry days are his as well. It's quite noticeable but according to him, "Nobody's gonna know!". He goes crazy whenever he sees you wear his big coat. It makes you look so cozy...and soft...like a warm fireplace in winter morning which always have a welcoming feel to them.
The trip to Dragonspine was, as usual, extremely cold. The fire that Kaeya made from the dry firewood wasn't enough to keep you warm. "You want me to make the fire more big? I can find some more dry wood for you" He asked voice laced with concern. You knew that no matter how big the fire or enormous layers of cloth, you won't be able to keep yourself warm...unless Kaeya offers you his comfortably warm chest...and hands too.
As if able to understand your gaze since your shivering form really gave it away, he walked up and sat behind you. He wrapped his arm around your body gently and said, "Lay on me. It'll help you keep warm" you relaxed your body and brought your knees closer to yourself and making yourself feel at home. You heaved a sigh of relief as if you've finally been able to stop the piercing cold wind from affecting you any further. "Thank you Kaeya" he smiled at you, "As long as you're comfortable". He sealed the conversation with a kiss upon your forehead.
˗ˏˋ ꒰ CHILDE ꒱ ˎˊ˗
He has been born and brought up in Snezhnaya. A nation with only snowy landscape all around. Naturally he was quite well adjusted himself to the cold atmosphere of any place that you visit. While he should be having big long coats in such a dry and chilly climate, he refuses to wear it because, "You can't get this cold anywhere else! it's a test of courage!".
You had a cup of hot chocolate on your hand as you flipped through the pages of the book. The big bear blanket and the brightly lit fireplace did make you warm but not enough. You shivered "Brr...its really cold if only he was at home..." during the coldest of days you ache for his comforting presence and his big warm arms enveloping your body as you two cuddle in the plush couch often times drifting off to sleep unknowingly. You missed him so much that you quickly sprinted towards his closet and grabbed the biggest jacket of his. You scurried inside the multiple blankets and drew his big fluffy jacket around you. His familiar scent filled your senses. He smelled like the ocean, no matter how faint the scent was, it was refreshing.
....the door of the room opened, and the wooden floor dreaked beneath his boot-like-shoes. "Babe?" he quietly asked, hoping to receive an answer, but as soon as he was about to go find you, he saw you laying comfortably on your stomach with his big jacket enveloping you as you softly snored. He felt himself falling for you adorable antics all over again. He slowly picked you up in his arms and carried you to bed. He murmered, "Sweet dreams, sweetheart..." with a kiss.
˗ˏˋ ꒰ AYATO ꒱ ˎˊ˗
The ocean breeze can get quite chilly right? With the layers of clothes you had on you, the coat was barely enough to even keep the piercing cold win from making you whole body numb. Sure, you acted impulsively and decided to sit down near the railing. You started off into the vast ocean. Ayato wasn't here most of the time and your time of respite to soothe your heart from missing him. "He's taking care of matters....he will come back soon..." you mumbled and hugged your knees close.
You felt an already warm blanket being draped around your figure from the back. Looking at the delicate fabric and the seam's design you turned your head back a little too quickly. There he was...the one who you waited so long for...He chuckled softly seeing your bewildered face. "You'll catch a cold if you sit here in the cold like this with barely enough layers dearest" He kept his hand on your shoulder blades gently. "Ayato...I thought you'll come..." "Let's say I did a few little things here and there which allowed me to spend some more time."
You smiled at him sweetly and got down from thr railing. You intertwined your hands with his and with a peck on his cheek, " I missed you so much..."
˗ˏˋ ꒰ NEUVILLETTE ꒱ ˎˊ˗
"Not done yeeetttt?...." you slumped on the couch as you waited even longer for him.
With a chuckle, he said, "It's almost done... just a little bit longer, dear." Then soon he went to work and correct the piles of paperwork. He has been avoiding them for quite a while now, and it had to be done one day. He may be the cold and formal Iudex of Fontaine, but even he loses the grip on his stoic personality whenever he's with you.
The evenings are quite cold in Fontaine, and he saw how you tried to warm up your arms. You didn't want to disturb him since his pending work's deadline was tomorrow in the afternoon.
While you were busy staring into space, he wrapped his coat around you. "Hm? Suddenly?"
"I saw how you were trying to warm yourself up and I apologise. I can't be the one to warm you up but I hope my coat suffices?" He said chuckling, a hint of blush on his fair cheeks. You grinned from ear to ear, "It's quite enough Neuvi, thanks for caring about me so much" you cupped his cheeks gently with your hands.
"I love you" you said as you touched his forehead with yours. A sign of the utmost affection for one who is the Hydro Dragon Sovereign.
˗ˏˋ ꒰ WRIOTHESLEY ꒱ ˎˊ˗
"Sigh... I know it's cold, but that's no reason for you to stay under the covers... it's 9 pm, now how long do you plan to do it?"
Concern lacing his voice as he saw how you tried your best to warm up your feet with whatever you could find. "It's too cold and I can't keep bothering you for so long, you've got work to do" you tried to sound as if you were alright but in reality, fighting the cold was really taking out all your strength from you.
"Wait—" you felt the covers being lifted from your head. He swiftly carried you on his arms and ploped you on the plush couch. Upon inspecting your surroundings, you saw how he had prepared everything from A to Z... there was a warm tea, leg warmers and special fur on the couch, which was especially sold during winter and the fireplace. "Wriothesley? You prepared all this for me?" You spoke bewildered.
"Yes. All the things that will keep my beloved warm and happy while I'm unfortunately working, " he spoke gently, holding your hands. "Wow...looks like I won the lottery when I received a boyfriend," you said while ruffling his soft hair.
"It's good thank you... but" you smirked maybe something other than this can keep me more warm?" "What are you imply?— Oh...I see" he chuckled on realising your intention.
He slithered his hands on your thighs and seductively said, "I don't mind that warm treat on such a cold day"

❅ but! regardless! he wakes up super duper early because he wants to surprise you. he's bought you the perfect gift and of course he's extremely excited about it <3 something you'd been wanting for months but never got around to buying, as a necessity, but also on top of that he'd bought something he knew you'd like. + a note. yeah his love language is gift giving because he's a fucking sap
❅ anyway. he makes you your favourite breakfast because he knows youre tired after the last night YOU WENT TO A CHRISTMAS EVE PARTY WITH UR FRIENDS GUYS its pg 13.... (i mean. i leave it upto your imagination). anyway. he wants to impress you even if youre already his.
❅ but halfway through trying to make pancakes that seem to be sticking to his pan, you wake up because he'd accidentally been making too much noise :') nothing he plans ever goes well but its endearing.
❅ he wishes you a merry christmas and tries to coerce you to go back to bed until he finishes his plans, but you insist on helping him. he lets you. somehow your pancakes dont stick to the pan. "you werent putting enough butter," "i was scared of it burning," he argues, but he notes down the improvements for next time :3
❅ and then he guides you to sit on the floor next to your tiny lil christmas tree that the two of you had decorated, excitedly putting up all the ornaments. a couple of them were given as a housewarming gift by his mother and sister, a couple were a hand-made activity with his neice (air dried clay shaped into gingerbread men with...eery smiles and a couple paper snowflakes) and some given to you by sasha (sanrio themed. because @ppushable made me think about it too much. thx) right.
❅ hes a sucker for tradition. makes you sit down, relax, babe, ive got this, and then turns some christmas music on, sets the tv up so theres a loop of the same fireplace video, sits infront of you criss-crossing his legs.
❅ its perfect. hes perfect, even if he's still in his pyjamas (his cars themed pants, mind you, a secret santa gift from connie) and an old grey hoodie, hair untamed, uncaring of how it was viewed as long as it was seen by you, and he's wearing these fuzzy socks that you had given him last christmas that had surprisingly still held up pretty well. its just the two of you.
❅ anyway. you play rock paper scissors to see who gets to open their gift first. he wins (which is not what he wanted. he loved winning but he wanted to see your reaction first). your smile is worth it, he thinks, because even as youre trying to contain your excitement, its very visible on your face. or maybe he can just read you too well.
❅ you feed him bites of the chocolate chip pancakes as he opens his gift. hes one of those people to both carefully wrap and unwrap presents :3 and he very gently pries the wrapping paper open, finding the exact points you had taped it shut. your work is a little sloppy, but he somehow finds his way around it.
❅ i hc that he cries relatively easily but hates showing it but he also cant hide it from you, so when he opens your gift imagine him immediately teaaring up because he loves it and then hugs you and burries his face in your neck. when you try pulling away he doesnt let you because hes embarassed :') what a sap i hate him
❅ after both your gifts are open and recieved you settle onto the couch with a warm cup of coffee to watch your favourite christmas movies that he claims he doesnt like but come on. look at him. he (begrudingly) puts it on because he wanted the fireplace recording to play for the whole day.
❅ at one point before you start the movies his mom calls to wish you guys a merry christmas!!!! its very cute she's very adorable and tells you that she's made you guys her famous tiramisu and buche de Noel (had to search that one up lol) and tells you that shes packadged and kept it in the fridge especially for you guys for when you visit <3 she tells you that she'd give you the recipie when you do come and then asks jean when hes going to "finally ask you to be a kirstein-" before he takes the phone from you and cuts her off. later on tells you "hey yeah so,,, you dont have to take my last name btw,, like when we do get married... i mean ive thought about it, ofc, and haha... like i'd completely understand if you dont want to take my last name-" and it turns into a cute lil conversation about you guys' future before he spirals more about you taking his name?? he was tweaking over NOTHING
anyway. complimentary moodboard because this is such a cute ask <3
Tumblr media
hope you liked this!! v cute ask now i cant stop thinking about it <3

hello, everyone! merry christmas! happy holidays! new years is coming up! i hope everyone is having the best festive season! i am so sorry that i promised a lot of things and couldn’t post them. i wanted to post something for my birthday, last october, as a gift to everyone, and on the 25th too.
but well, in case you guessed it, i am sick. again. 😭 i got sick around early december, and got sick last week again. i get a lot of notifications and messages, and i just want to apologise because there were so many things i wanted to write, but my body hasn’t been bodying for the past few months. i think there was a time in november where my head was just super fuzzy every morning from the lack of sleep (studied until 3 AM in the morning, woke up at 7 AM. . .) and i‘ve been having bad migraines too for the past few weeks.
but when i read the little reblog tags, the messages, and asks, i feel so so so much lighter—i want to be able to reply to everyone soon, and actually write. again, i apologise for the lack of anything on the blog :') the ber months haven’t been kind, but i hope that everyone is taking care of themselves!
let’s all have a safe and healthy 2025!!!! 🤎🤎 i am so so grateful for everyone who read my stuff and liked it, i will lock in as soon as i get better!!! 🥺🥺

have a bunch of requests, suggestions, and other cas-related 4t2 conversions that i've had lying around (and previously unuploaded to tumblr) for awhile now! these aren't specifically related to one another, thematically, but it felt wrong to space out their uploads over months and months when i've got so much time on my hands now, so i just threw them all in one big dump and you can have them all at once! yay! merry early christmas 🎄
there are 10 items total, 5 for males, 5 for females. 4 accessories, 6 hairs. some have been uploaded previously in the requests channel of the simscord, others i made over time to add to my veronaview playthrough. most are for teens to elders (one of the hairs is for kids, too) and i've included previews in all of the folders for each item. more info under the cut; this is going to be a very, very long post!

✮⋆。°✩⋆˙ a christmas miracle
a 'when i kissed the teacher' spinoff.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: you and steve were in a weird situation. you weren't actively trying to get pregnant, but you weren't exactly being safe either. so, how will steve react when he opens his final christmas present?
warnings: dad!steve. mom!reader. fem!reader. afab!reader. 90s!au. mentions and allusions to sex. mentions of pregnancy. pet names. kissing. tons of crying. alena being too young to understand pregnancy (kinda cute tho). alena being a cutie pie as always. some worries over steve's reaction. but mostly fluff and comfort!! [1.9k].
author's note: hi everyone!! i am back!! my first semester of uni is finally over, so i can get back to fic writing a little more! i couldn't neglect my happy family like this, so i've tackled a pregnancy fic! i've never been pregnant, but i do wish to be in my life, so all of my research has been for my own benefit and utilised in this fic. if i'm inaccurate in any parts, please let me know for the benefit of the readers and myself!! ♡
Tumblr media
It was hard not announcing the news to Steve. Having to attend your first scan without him was heartbreaking, but the look upon the nurse’s face after you told her you were going to wrap up the ultrasound photo, along with a card saying “Merry Christmas Daddy” and a pair of small, cream, woolen socks, just confirmed your decision was the right one.
You and Steve were in a sort of weird situation. You had stopped using protection, but weren’t in a position were you were actively trying to get pregnant. You agreed that any time from now was an okay time for the two of you to have a child, but also weren’t bothered if the pregnancy tests came back negative.
But, a little Christmas miracle decided to form inside of you, the test showing two lines on December 11th, 1999.
Steve and Alena had gone grocery shopping for an hour, the perfect opportunity for you to wrap Steve’s gift.
Rolling out the wrapping paper, you placed a grey, fluffy blanket in the centre, before laying on top the Christmas card which read:
Hi Daddy.
I’m six weeks old today!
I can’t wait to meet you soon! I’m planning to enter the world on August 20th, 2000.
My mom is keeping me very safe right now as I grow, but I’ll still be listening out for you from inside my home.
See you in nine months.
Love, your future child <3
And as you were about to place the ultrasound photo next to the cream baby socks you previous put underneath the card, your eyes started welling with tears once more.
Was it the hormones? Maybe. But, something in you felt this was all natural. You were growing a human life inside of you, one that has half of your DNA and the other half the love of your life’s. That was something to bask in the intense emotion of.
With everything laid out neatly, you reached over for the sellotape, folding over the edges and carefully sticking them in place.
Wrapping the gift in a pretty cream bow, matching the socks inside, and adding a label reading “To my darling Stevie,” you added it to the pile of increasing gifts in the corner of yours and Steve’s bedroom.
Now, just a week to go until he gets his surprise.
You cradle your stomach, despite the size not increasing at all yet, and whisper to your unborn child “A week and he’ll know, my love. Your beautiful existence will be known.”
Tumblr media
“Mom! Dad! Wake up! Wake up!”
You are awoken by the sound of your bouncing ten-year-old, aggressively rocking your fiancé as he groans loudly, his eyes adjusting to the light peaking through the window.
“Mornin’ pumpkin,” he murmurs, you opening up one eye as Alena’s full set of brand-new adult teeth smile right at you.
“And what are you doing up so early, missy?” you ask, the clock on the bedside table next to Steve shining a bright 6:00 in the morning, illuminating the room in a red glow.
“Mom” she drags out, rolling her eyes playfully, “You know what day it is!”
You tap your chin lightly, playing along with the joke, “Hmm… I feel as if I may need a reminder.”
“It’s Christmas Mom! And I may or may not have seen all the presents you left underneath the tree…” her vocal pitch increases, looking away in a guilty look as Steve reaches up and pulls her down into his body, the girl screaming as he ruffles her hair.
“Did someone be naughty and peak underneath the tree?” he grits through his teeth, Alena shouting in a reply, “I didn’t mean to, I promise! I saw it on the way to your room!”
You begin to tickle her sides as Steve holds her in place against his chest, making the girl scream in delight loudly, “Is someone now on Santa’s naughty list?”
“Mom…” she pouts her lips, a grumpy expression adorning her face as you sigh sadly, “I know sweet cheeks, you don’t believe in him anymore.”
“I’m sorry…”
You hold out your arms as you wrap her in a warm hug, “Don’t be sorry, baby. I knew you would realise eventually. You’re getting too old!”
She gasps and looks into your eyes, crossing her arms over her chest, “I am not old! You and Dad are old.”
You start giggling in shock as Steve just opens his mouth wide, “You better watch yourself, pumpkin.”
“Yeah,” you hold up a finger in warning, before pointing it over to Steve, “Dad doesn’t like being reminded he’s in his mid-thirties.”
And now it is Steve’s turn to attack you, but instead with aggressive kisses, littering them up your neck and across your face lightly, Alena now old enough to understand the playful love between the two of you. “You’re almost thirty as well, you know.”
“Two more years to go, babe. I’m still in my prime development decade,” you smirk at him.
And it wasn’t just you who was developing.
Tumblr media
A loud gasp can be heard along with the shredding of paper as Alena holds up her latest gift, “You actually got me it?”
For such a small gadget, the Barbie Digital Camera cost you $70, the most expensive gift yet, but maybe not the one which will cause the biggest reaction.
“Of course I did! It’s the one thing you kept pointing at in the magazine!”
She giggles with a bright smile, “Thank you! Thank you!”
She launches herself at you, the motherly instinct in you clutching onto your stomach to protect your unborn child, hoping Steve didn’t notice the movement. The surprise would be known in the next half an hour.
“And after you’ve taken your photos, we can connect it to Dad’s computer and see it come to life! How cool is that?”
“Can I take it to school?” she asks, clutching the box in her hands.
“I assume you can! But, just ask Mrs. Critchley before you take it in, okay?”
“Okay!” she smiles, plopping herself back down on the carpet to open the rest of her gifts.
Tumblr media
Your hands began to sweat. Alena was all done opening her presents, patiently waiting for you and Steve to unwrap yours.
Steve let you attend to your gifts first. Everything from a brand-new necklace designed with a rose quartz, matching your engagement ring, to the latest Nokia phone, you were thankful for everything he had bought you, praising him with many gentle kisses and warm hugs.
Now, it was Steve’s turn. You specifically told him to leave one present until last, leading him to give you an eyebrow raise and a shrug before simply agreeing, used to your weirdness by now. You got him everything from a new cologne to a new pair of Nike shoes, the soles of his old pair wearing thin from how much he was working over the Christmas holidays.
But, after one final kiss, it was finally time.
“Can I open this now?” Steve jokes, the nerves deeply settling in your stomach. You don’t even know why you were worried, you had stopped using protection in mutual agreement, knowing kids could be a possibility from that result. There was just a voice in your head trying to convince you an awful reaction would occur.
“Uh, yeah… Yeah, you can.”
“Hey,” he puts an arm on your shoulder, “Why are you so nervous?”
You lightly chuckle, “You’ll find out once you open the gift.”
Even after all of these years, Steve still wasn’t the smartest. Verbal cues were not his strong suit, but my God could he read body language like a champ.
He gives you a confused look before unwrapping the cream-coloured bow, delicately tearing apart the paper as his eyes immediately notice the ultrasound scan.
He may be oblivious, but he isn’t that oblivious. He has one very similar in his bedside table drawer of his sweet ten-year-old daughter sat next to him.
The tears form at his eyes before he can even recognise them. Small sniffles enter the atmosphere as his hazel eyes make contact with you, “Are you serious?”
And the tears follow suit for you, nodding frantically as he leans across the floor to collect you in his arms, crying into your shoulder.
“How far along?” he mumbles into your shoulder, tears dripping onto the red fabric of your dress.
“Read the card and you’ll find out.”
Steve was too drawn into the ultrasound scan to even notice the card you had gotten him. Releasing from the hug, he keeps a gentle hand on the small of your back, picking up the card and carefully opening it, reading the words you had written, the tears increasing as he noticed it was from the perspective of his baby.
“Wha— How? When did you get this done?” he stutters out, still in complete shock of the entire moment.
“Pregnancy test has been in the bathroom trash can for two weeks. I was scared you were going to notice it for a while, but then I remembered it’s you, and you don’t notice anything,” you giggle, Steve not even bothered by the joking insult, too caught up in his own emotions, “And two Thursday’s ago, I didn’t go to work. Went to the hospital and got the scan, and just hung around Starcourt until the time I would normally come home.”
“Well, you fooled me,” he chuckles, leaning in for a kiss which you gladly accept, cupping his cheeks as you smile into it.
“I love you so much, beautiful girl. And I love the baby who is growing inside of you. You’re so strong. Your body is so strong. I just— I can’t wait. I can’t wait to meet them.”
His hand had migrated down to your stomach, gently cradling the unborn child inside of you.
Alena had finally looked up from her Etch-a-Sketch, noticing the tears falling down both yours and Steve’s cheeks, your hands holding tightly onto each side of his head as your foreheads were leant against each other, kneeling on the soft carpet of the living room.
“Mom? Dad? Why are you crying?”
Steve turns around to face his daughter, you looking softly into her eyes, “Because Mom is having a baby, sweetie.”
Steve passes her the ultrasound scan, her face scrunching up in confusion as she points at it, “Why is it just a black blob?”
Steve begins laughing as his head falls onto your shoulder, sweetly rubbing up and down the sides of your waist.
“Because when a baby is first made, it starts out as a black blob and then grows into the full size baby we all know and love,” you explain gently to her.
“Hmm…” she takes in, before asking her next question, “But how did it get there?”
Your eyes widen as Steve’s hands stop on your waist, refusing to lift his head and look at his daughter.
You smile through the awkwardness, remembering that her sex education lessons would start in a matter of months, “You’ll find out soon, baby.”

Warnings: None
Words: 2.1k
Read over on Ao3, or below the cut
Malls had freaked her out ever since the case with Katie Jacobs. Especially when she was in one with her children, the memory of all the places a little kid could hide, or be hidden, making a shiver run down her spine every time she thought about it. It didn’t help that Aaron wasn’t here with them, that she was on her own and thinking of every terrible thing that could happen to Jack, Hazel and Oliver, but he was on his way.
The jet had landed back in DC all of 45 minutes ago, and he’d called and told her he’d come and meet her at the mall. He’d sounded tired, worn down by whatever horrors he and the team had seen when they were away. She told him they could just meet him at home, that he didn’t need to come and wait in line with her so the kids could meet some random guy dressed as Santa, but he’d insisted.
This kind of thing, the achingly normal parts of being a parent and part of a family, were as important to him as they were to her. The extraordinary ordinariness of it all made her emotional sometimes. Love and joy filling the space in her chest that she thinks must have always been waiting for them. Waiting for the man she loves and his son who would one day be hers, and the little girl and boy who would follow.  It was beautiful and hers and everything she never thought she’d get.
Which is exactly why even though her feet hurt from standing in line for so long on Christmas Eve, and her back hurt from holding Oliver on her hip since she’d lifted him out of the car, she was able to find the joy in waiting in line at the mall for her kids to see Santa.
Oliver grumbles in Emily’s arms and rubs his face against her neck. She hums and turns to kiss the 10-month-old’s forehead, “I know sweet boy,” she says, kissing him again, “It’s almost nap time, huh?”
Hazel turns to look at her, her hand still wrapped up in Jack’s where they were standing barely a foot in front of her, “Mommy, I’m bored.”
“I know, baby,” she says, Emily smiles at the absolute weariness in her four-year-old’s voice and she adjusts her hold on Oliver, so she can run fingers through the little girl’s dark hair as she looks at the line ahead of them and slightly too enthusiastic elves at the front, “But it’s almost our turn.”
“Santa has a lot of people to talk to,” Jack says, winking at Emily before he turns his attention to his little sister, “It’s only fair everyone gets to talk to him.”
One evening, back in November, Jack had announced to his parents that he knew Santa wasn’t real. He’d delighted in being in on the secret as much as they’d been sad that he was, a strange mix of sadness spreading through them at the thought of their eldest growing up and pride because of the person he was becoming.
“Exactly,” Emily says, smiling at Jack, “It’s Christmas Eve,” she enthuses, looking back at her little girl, “He’s a busy guy.”
“Emily!”
She turns at the sound of her husband’s voice and feels herself relax the moment she sees him walking towards them. She leans in to kiss him the moment he’s close enough, her lips stamped against his, “Speaking of busy guys.”
“Hi, sweetheart.”
She can hear the weariness in his voice, the tiredness brought on by the job they once shared and coming so close to missing Christmas. She’d left the BAU when she had Hazel, something she had never regretted for a second, and she now led the Counterterrorism unit. She’d sent her team early and had her work phone tucked into her pocket in case of an emergency, but it was important to spend Christmas with her kids - especially when they were so young - because her parents had never really spent it with her. It was why she loved Christmas so much, because she saw it through the eyes of her children, the magic of it stronger than it had ever been as she watched them enjoy it too.
Hazel throws herself at Aaron, excited to see her father after a few days apart, her apparent boredom now forgotten, “Daddy!”
“Hi princess,” he says, hauling her up into his arms and kissing her cheek before he settles her onto his hip, “Are you excited to see Santa?”
She nods, “He’s very busy but it’s almost our turn.”
He smiles and ruffles Jack’s hair, his smile getting wider when he tries to doge his father’s affection, “Hi buddy.”
“Merry Christmas Eve, Dad.”
Aaron then leans in to kiss Oliver’s forehead, “Hi Ollie,” he furrows his brow when Oliver grumbles and leans in closer to Emily, his tiny hand tangled up in her necklace. Aaron looks up at Emily, “Is he okay?”
She nods and rubs a circle on Oliver’s back, “He’s okay, he’s just tired.”
“The next family can come forward.”
Emily smiles at the elf in front of them and nods her thanks before she looks at the kids, with genuine enthusiasm in her eyes, “Come on, let's go meet Santa.”
Hazel goes first. She sits on his lap and tells him what she wants - a princess castle which was currently in the home office waiting to be built - and then smiles for her photo. Jack does the same, a knowing look in his eyes as he goes through the motions for the sake of his parents and his sister.
As Emily expected, the moment she puts Oliver down on Santa’s lap he bursts into tears. He stays there long enough for a picture, something that makes Emily feel a little bad because of just how much it amuses her. She picks him back up again, shushing him as she tries to soothe him, her lips against his temple as she whispers words of comfort in English and French.
“Why did Ollie cry?” Hazel asks, one hand in Aaron’s and the other in Jack’s as they walk back to the car, “It’s just Santa.”
“You cried when you first met him too,” Jack says, his smile getting wide when Hazel furrows her brow.
“No, I didn’t.”
“You did, princess,” Aaron says, smiling as he meets his wife’s eyes, the memory of their little girl, who had only been 6 months old at the time, and the way she’d burst into tears just like Oliver had.
“But I love Santa,” she says, her lower lip stuck out in a pout.
“Now you do, sweet girl,” Emily replies, “But you were very little. Even littler than Ollie,” she turns to Aaron, sighing when she sees him dig through his pockets for his car keys, wishing more than anything they were driving home together, “See you at home?”
He nods, “I’ll grab dinner on the way back.”
“It’s okay, you’ve been at work all day,” she says, “I can-”
“You’ve got all the kids with you, sweetheart,” he says, leaning in to kiss her cheek, “It’s easier if I go.”
She smiles and nods, stamping her lips against his, “Okay, see you at home.”
___
She sneaks out of Oliver’s room, making sure she’s careful as she pulls the door closed behind her, sighing in relief for managing to get all the kids to sleep, something that was no mean feat on any day let alone Christmas Eve.
She yawns as she walks down the hallway, seeking out her husband and the rare and precious alone time she wants with him. She walks downstairs and smiles as she comes to a stop outside of the home office when she hears a muttered curse through the door. She knocks and then steps inside, her smile only getting wider when she finds him sitting on the floor surrounded by pieces of the princess castle they’d bought for Hazel. Most of it is still in pieces, with only the base built, and Aaron’s hair is all over the place from where he’d run his fingers through it in frustration.
“How is going in here?” She asks, pressing her lips together to hide her amusement when he looks up at her, more frustration written across his face than she’d seen in a long time.
“Did you know that this thing needs three different types of batteries?” He asks, shaking his head as he looks at the instructions again, “Why does anything need three different types of batteries?”
She sits on the ground next to him, “Do you want any help?”
“No,” he says, shaking his head as he grabs the instructions from the floor in between them, “I can do it. You wrapped all the other gifts, I can build this.”
She finds herself trying to suppress a smile again, her love for him and his love for their children thrumming under her skin. He was tired. Weary in a way that seemed bone deep, and he was insistent on building one of their daughter’s Christmas presents so she didn’t have to wait for him to do it tomorrow. She leans in to kiss his cheek, and she wraps her hand around the back of his neck, pressing her fingers into the muscles she knew ached the most.
“That’s because I enjoy wrapping presents, honey,” she says, smiling at him, stamping another kiss against his chest, “No one likes to build these things.”
He hums and hands her the instructions, “You can see if you can make any sense of this if you’d like?”
She takes the piece of paper and immediately frowns at it, the instructions and the accompanying diagrams making no sense at all. She turns it over and tries to read them on the other side, “Well, if it makes you feel any better, honey, they don’t make sense in French or Italian either.”
They end up working on it together, figuring it out mostly through trial and error as they slowly but surely build the castle they know will delight their little girl in the morning. When it’s eventually done, Aaron switches on all the lights and smiles in delight and relief when it works.
“Thank fuck for that,” he says, sitting back to admire his work and blowing out a slow breath, “I was very close to telling Hazel that Santa was all out of princess castles.”
“No, you weren’t,” Emily chuckles and leans in to kiss him, her lips catching the corner of his as she cups his cheek, “You’d have stayed up until the morning if you needed to. Because you’re the best dad in the whole world.”
He hums and kisses her, “And you’re the best mom.”
She smiles so widely that her cheeks ache and she once again wonders how this was her life, how she’d got so lucky to have him here with her with their children all safely tucked in their beds upstairs. She thinks of the Christmases she’d spent alone, how she had ached for a life where she’d stay up all night to build a present for her kid just to see their smile in the morning.
“Our kids are lucky to have us,” she quips and he smiles, leaning in to kiss her again.
His watch beeps as he pulls, indicating that it was midnight, and he smiles at her, his dimples carved out deep in his cheeks, “Merry Christmas sweetheart.”
She pulls back just enough to speak, her nose knocking against his as she replies, “Merry Christmas, baby,” she kisses him again, “I love you.”
“I love you too,” he says, “So much.”
She kisses him, her hand tangled in his hair as she holds him in place before she rests her cheek against his chest, curling herself up against him as she sighs contentedly. She turns her head to look at the princess castle, her eyebrows furrowing as she finally takes in the size of it.
“Aaron?”
“Yes, Em?”
“How the hell are we going to move the castle to the living room?”
He tightens his hold on her for a second, and she feels more than hears his resigned sigh as it passes from his chest to hers.
“Well shit.”

merry and happy - soobin !
summary : yn’s first merry and happy christmas finally occurs !
warnings : not proof read, wc: 1.1k
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you weren’t sure if it was the fact that it was so early and the sun was already setting or possibly the fact the entire day had been so gloomy, but something in the atmosphere was just completely ticking you off. you tried to brush it off, but it didn’t work, going to sleep and waking up feel the same for the next day. those days turned into a week. a week straight of feeling weirdly miserable.
each and every year, when you turned your calendar to december, you found yourself with an unknown feeling of emptiness in your chest. and each year, for every single day in december, you tried ignoring that feeling, you tried acting calm. but nothing could possibly calm you down, one the verge of snapping each second. christmas carols unknowingly bringing tears to your eyes.
you remembered why you hated this time around, the month of december was when you broke up with your previous boyfriend. or he broke up with you. he left you all alone on christmas, promising to give you his new years kiss, making so many false promises. he knew he was going to break up with you so why make so many promises.
you sat there in your apartment, wrapping paper on the floor and a box full of goodies set apart. it was the 23rd and you were just ready to get the holiday season done with, you were wrapping soobin’s last gift, you had around 3 gifts ready for him and you decided, very last minute, to give him one more gift. you weren’t sure why the idea of soobin made you automatically want to gift him so many presents, and as much as you hated the holiday season, you couldn’t help but warm up to the idea of shopping for your boyfriend.
speaking of your boyfriend, you heard the door of your apartment open, automatically looking over your shoulder and rushing to wrap the rest of the gift before he could make his way over. carefully yet quickly finishing the gift, placing a little sticker on the box ‘to : soobie <3 from : the love of your life.’ you couldn’t help but let out a little giggle as you even placed a heart next to your name. soobin eventually stood right behind where you were sitting looking at the weirdly perfectly wrapped present.
“another one? didn’t you place one under the tree for me the other day..?” soobin couldn’t help but let his curiousity begin to run rampant, had the two of you made a deal to give each other more gifts than planned. he watched as you nodded your head, placing the present down underneath the christmas tree that the two of you decorated a few days ago.
“i did.. but i found a few things that i thought you would like, so i couldn’t help but buy it..” soobin walked up next to you, admiring the lit up christmas tree in all its glory.
“it that so, baby.. but you know.. just spending christmas with you would be so ideal.. we can stay inside, apparently we’re supposed to get a white christmas.. so i was kinda planning that we bake cookies on christmas eve, eat dinner together, and maybe— if you want— we can spend the night together, and then on christmas day we could spend time together and watch a christmas movie.. lounge around a bit… only if you want to..” soobin shyly commented, he knew about your peculiar negative feelings towards the christmas season and he truly wanted to play it safe. he couldn’t bear to lose you, he really loved you and he was happy to see where your relationship was headed.
“ooh! on christmas eve, maybe we can make a list of all the christmas movies we want to watch and then we’ll spend all night watching the trailers and seeing which one is the best !” you highlighted, feeling soobin’s arm wrap around your waist. he felt your entire attitude towards christmas completely changed. why was it that you weren’t complaining at the idea of watching a movie together, especially knowing that there would be a few christmas carols in them.
when christmas eve arrived, soobin was outside of your door by evening, the sun already down, the moon partaking as its part of the whole ordeal was occurring. soobin was dressed in a red sweater, black pants keeping his sweater a bit tucked in. you ran to open the door, soobin noticing that the two of you were matching. the only difference was that
you wore the opposite color, and a black skirt. he saw cute little ribbons in your hair, a small yet meaningful chuckle leaving his mouth as he admired your beauty. going down to leave a small kiss on your lips, “how’s my baby doing?”
“good ! i was just preparing a few things. i put all the baking supplies out- oh ! and after you left yesterday, i went to the store and i got these cute cookie decorating kits !” soobin could’ve sworn, in the past few years when he was nothing more than just a friend, he had never seen you so happy for christmas. he loved it, he loved seeing you enjoy such a jolly season.
“really baby? why don’t you go ahead and show me?” you couldn’t help but blush at soobin’s use of pet names. there was just something in your heart that fueled the love you already had for soobin. you let him into your apartment, and immediately led him into the living room, grabbing an open box. you pulled out the contents of the box and showed soobin the cookies that were precut, sprinkles that came in a separate container, and icing along with piping bags. soobin felt a tug at the corner of his mouth, his arm sneaking around your waist. “what’s got you so eager this christmas, baby?”
“i dunno.. usually i just don’t really like it.. but i don’t know.. this year, you’re here… it doesn’t feel as lonely as it usually does.. i dunno.. even the lights look so pretty, and when i hear the carols.. they don’t make me want to cry.” you commented, small joyful tears reaching your cheek, fully pulling soobin into a hug. shit. he didn’t expect your heartwarming response, it was all so overwhelming, but in a really happy way.
“thank you so much, baby.. my christmas is merry because you’re by my side.” soobin pressed one last kiss to your lips. before placing an apron on you and himself, wiping your tears and kissing them away. he was ready to have such a beautiful christmas with you, starting off by decorating cookies.

In the waning light of late afternoon, the world softened, painted in hues of amber and gold.
On the grassy bank of a secluded stream, a quiet intimacy unfolded.
Much younger than she was now, Caterina lay sprawled across the tender earth, her golden dress cascading around her.
Waves of hair framed her face, loose and untamed, catching the occasional glimmer as the dappled sunlight filtered through the canopy of leaves above.
The melodic trickle of water nearby mingled with birdsong, weaving a cocoon of tranquility around the pair.
Beside her, a young man reclined, his gaze steady and warm as it lingered on her.
His hand, strong yet tender, intertwined with hers.
Their fingers fit together effortlessly, the connection between them as natural as the breeze that rustled through the grass.
Here, hidden from the world, they seemed suspended in their own secret universe, both in place and in time.
Caterina tilted her head, the soft curve of a smile gracing her lips.
She turned onto her side, leaning on one elbow, her other hand still entwined with his.
Slowly, she reached out, her free fingers tracing the contours of his cheek with a feather-light touch.
The familiar planes of his face, the warmth of his skin beneath her fingertips, ignited a quiet joy within her, unguarded and complete.
His eyes softened, their depth reflecting something unspoken but deeply felt.
The air seemed to still as she spoke, her voice a quiet murmur, carrying both the playfulness and vulnerability of youth.
“Will you love me forever?” she asked, tinged with a hesitancy that only deepened her sincerity.
A part of her already trusted the answer, though she longed to hear it aloud.
He smiled, his hand lifting to brush a stray curl from her face. His fingers lingered for a moment, caressing her cheek as if committing every detail of her to memory.
“Forever, my beautiful,” he whispered, his voice rich and steady, a promise etched into the golden air between them. “My love for you will never end.”
Laughter bubbled from Caterina, soft and unrestrained, a sound as light and natural as the breeze around them.
She tilted her head closer, her eyes sparkling with a joy so radiant it seemed to outshine the sun.
Her laughter danced in the air, weaving into the symphony of nature that surrounded them.
Then, as her laughter ebbed, she leaned down, her lips meeting his in a kiss, soft and unhurried.
His hand cradled her face, his fingers tracing delicate patterns along her cheek.
For a moment, the world melted away, the grass beneath them, the sky above, and the stream murmuring nearby, all fell silent.
There was only them.

Dearest readers, It seems this season has no shortage of delights, surprises, and intriguing visitors! The Medici family continues to dazzle the ton, with each member leaving their unique impression on our glittering society. While much attention has been directed toward the upcoming nuptials of the charming Miss Teresa Medici and the dashing Lord Ducker, another Medici has entered the fray to stir up even more excitement.
Yes, dear readers, the Duke of Lucca himself, Lorenzo Medici, has arrived in London with his enchanting wife and their two young children. Rumor has it the twins, Miss Teresa and Miss Caterina Medici, nearly toppled the household with their joy at their brother’s early arrival, a heartwarming scene that surely melted the hearts of even the most unflappable Londoners. To mark the occasion, the ever-hospitable Langstone family has announced a grand ball in the Duke’s honor, a soiree destined to be the talk of the season. With such a distinguished guest list and the Medici family’s growing influence in the social sphere, one can only imagine the connections and alliances that may be forged on this glittering evening.
But, my dear readers, do not let the splendor of the Langstone ball distract you from the whispers that swirl around one particular Medici sister. Miss Caterina Medici, known for her poise and charm, has been seen promenading with none other than His Grace, the Duke of Richmond. While their conversations appear the picture of propriety, one cannot help but wonder if a subtle courtship is blossoming amidst the preparations for her sister’s wedding.
And what of the ever-elusive Mr. Benedict Bridgerton, whose recent absences have left some speculating whether a certain young lady’s sharp words have cut deeper than she intended? Could there be more to this tale, or is it merely the folly of wishful observers? Time, as always, will reveal all.
Until then, my dearest readers, let us await the Langstone ball with bated breath and polished slippers. Who knows what revelations, romances, and rivalries the evening may bring?
Yours most faithfully, Lady Whistledown
─────────
The morning light filtered softly through the tall windows of Langstone House, bathing the drawing room in a golden glow.
The hum of activity echoed throughout the estate as the Medici family and their hosts began their day.
The spacious room, adorned with elegant furnishings and richly embroidered drapes, bore an air of refinement that perfectly matched its occupants.
Near the hearth, a cheerful scene unfolded as Teresa and Caterina entertained their young niece and nephew, Vittoria and Luca.
The siblings’ joyous laughter rang out as Teresa guided Vittoria through a game of pretend tea, carefully arranging tiny porcelain cups on a child-sized table.
Caterina, meanwhile, knelt on the floor beside Luca, who was determined to build the tallest block tower his little hands could manage.
“You’re doing wonderfully, Luca,” Caterina encouraged with a warm smile.
Luca’s tongue poked out in concentration as he placed a block at the precarious summit. “This one is the roof,” he declared with pride.
Vittoria looked up from her tea set with the superior air of an older sibling. “Luca, towers don’t need roofs. They’re not houses.”
“They do in my world!” Luca retorted, puffing out his chest.
Teresa and Caterina exchanged amused glances before laughter bubbled from them both.
Meanwhile, at the dining table across the room, Lorenzo Medici and his mother, Lady Medici, sat in conversation.
The Duke of Lucca exuded his usual commanding presence, his sharp features softened by the familial setting.
A half-filled cup of tea rested in his hand as he spoke, his deep voice low but firm.
“Madre,” Lorenzo began, leaning back slightly in his chair. “You have told me much about Tess intended, Lord Ducker, but I remain curious. What kind of man is he? Beyond the surface, I mean. Tess seems content, but I want to know if he will truly make her happy.”
Lady Medici’s blue eyes met her son’s with a calm, knowing gaze. “Lord Ducker is a gentleman of good repute, Lorenzo. He is steady and dependable, qualities that will serve your sister well. His affection for her is evident in his manner, and I believe he will honor and cherish her as a husband should.”
“Steady and dependable,” Lorenzo repeated, his brow furrowing slightly. “Worthy traits, certainly. But does he have the strength of character Tess will need? Marriage is not just a convenient arrangement, Madre, it is a union meant to endure through the years.”
A soft smile played on Lady Medici’s lips. “Your protective nature does you credit, my dear. Teresa’s happiness is my priority, as it is yours. You will have the opportunity to judge Lord Ducker’s character for yourself at tonight’s ball. But I trust my instincts about him.”
Lorenzo nodded, though his expression remained contemplative.
He took another sip of tea before voicing a new thought. “And what of Kitty?”
Lady Medici raised an elegant brow. “What of her?”
“I heard that a certain Duke is showing particular interest in her,” Lorenzo said, his tone casual but inquisitive. “Is there something I should know?”
Lady Medici’s smile grew wider, and she set her teacup down with deliberate care. “The Duke of Richmond has indeed expressed interest in your sister. He has called on her several times and shown himself to be most attentive.”
Lorenzo’s brows knit together in a mixture of curiosity and concern. “And what does Kitty think of him?”
Before Lady Medici could respond, the subject of their conversation entered the room, both sisters still laughing over some private jest.
The two young women approached the table, their steps light and their cheeks flushed from the morning’s play.
Lorenzo turned his piercing gaze on Caterina, his question hanging heavily in the air. “Kitty, I was just speaking with Madre about the Duke of Richmond. I heard he has taken quite an interest in you.”
Caterina froze mid-step, her composure faltering for the briefest moment.
The flush on her cheeks deepened, though this time it was not from laughter. “Oh,” she said, her voice unusually small. “I suppose he has.”
“You suppose?” Lorenzo pressed a note of teasing in his voice. “Either he has or he hasn’t. Which is it?”
Teresa, sensing her sister’s discomfort, intervened with a light laugh. “Lori, you sound like an inquisitor! Poor Kitty can’t even have a quiet morning without you interrogating her.”
Caterina shot her sister a grateful look before managing a composed reply. “The Duke has shown himself to be very kind and… attentive. But it is still early days, and I do not wish to rush to any conclusions.”
Lorenzo’s sharp gaze remained fixed on his sister as if trying to discern the truth behind her carefully chosen words. “Do you enjoy his presence?” he asked, his tone both curious and protective.
Caterina hesitated, her fingers fidgeting with the lace edge of her sleeve. “I… I think he is a gentleman of good standing and character,” she said at last. “He is attentive and respectful.”
“But?” Lorenzo prompted.
“But,” Caterina faltered, “I do not know him well enough to say more.”
Lady Medici, sensing that her daughter needed reprieve, stepped in smoothly. “Caterina has always been thoughtful in matters of the heart, Lorenzo. She understands the importance of choosing wisely, and I trust her judgment. The Duke of Richmond is a patient man, and he respects her measured approach.”
Lorenzo nodded slowly, though his expression betrayed a lingering skepticism.
“Very well,” he said at last. “I might arrange an introduction to the gentleman this evening”
“of course,” Caterina assured him, her voice steady despite the turmoil of emotions swirling within her.
As the conversation shifted to the ball’s preparations, Caterina’s thoughts lingered on her brother’s probing questions.
Her gaze drifted to Teresa, who was now playfully helping Vittoria set up a new tea party.
Teresa’s laughter was light and carefree, a stark contrast to Caterina’s own brooding thoughts.
For a moment, Caterina envied her sister’s simplicity, wishing that her own heart could be as easily swayed by kind attentions and steadfast promises.
But deep down, she knew that her heart was anything but simple.
─────────
The sun dipped low in the sky, casting a warm, golden hue across the Medici sisters’ shared dressing room.
The Langstone estate buzzed with activity, the final touches of the evening’s grand ball being perfected by a flurry of servants.
Within the sanctuary of their room, however, the air was quieter, more personal, filled with the rustle of silk gowns and the faint floral fragrance of rosewater.
Caterina stood before the ornate mirror, adjusting the delicate pearl combs in her hair.
Teresa, on the other hand, sat by the window.
Her hands twisting nervously in her lap.
“Tess,” Caterina said gently, glancing at her sister’s reflection, “you’ve been fretting since the moment we returned from luncheon. What’s troubling you?”
Teresa sighed, her shoulders slumping. “It’s Lord Ducker and Lori,” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
Caterina turned from the mirror, her brow furrowing with concern. “What about them?”
“I’m worried about the impression Lord Ducker will make on our brother,” Teresa confessed, her words tumbling out in a rush. “you know well how he could be, What if he doesn’t approve? What if he finds fault with Lord Ducker?”
Caterina moved to sit beside her sister, taking Teresa’s hands in her own. “Tess, you’re thinking too much about this,” she said softly. “Lori may be protective, but he adores you. And as for Lord Ducker, anyone with eyes can see how much he values you. He’ll see it too.”
“But what if he doesn’t?” Teresa pressed, her voice trembling. “What if he thinks Lord Ducker is insincere or unworthy?”
Caterina squeezed her sister’s hands. “Do you truly believe that?”
“No,” Teresa admitted, shaking her head. “Edward is the most honorable man I’ve ever known. He’s kind, thoughtful… everything I could have wished for. But Lori is different. He values strength and forthrightness, and Edward can be so… so reserved.”
Caterina laughed lightly. “Tess, Lord Ducker isn’t shy. He’s measured. There’s a difference. And Lori will appreciate that once they speak. Trust me, our brother isn’t as difficult to win over as you think.”
Teresa looked at her sister with wide, anxious eyes. “You’re sure?”
“Positive,” Caterina replied with confidence. “Besides, Lori has a sharp eye for character. If Lord Ducker loves you, and it’s clear that he does, Lori will respect that.”
A flicker of a smile touched Teresa’s lips, though doubt lingered in her gaze. “I hope you’re right. I couldn’t bear it if they didn’t get along.”
Caterina leaned closer, her tone playful. “Well, if our brother does find fault, we’ll simply remind him of his own less-than-perfect courtship skills. That should humble him.”
Teresa giggled, some of her tension easing. “He did have a rather dramatic proposal to Beatrice, didn’t he?”
“Absolutely,” Caterina teased. “And if memory serves, she made him wait three months before accepting. Lori may be an intimidating Duke, but even he’s had to grovel for love.”
The sisters shared a laugh, their bond easing Teresa’s worries.
After a moment, Teresa’s expression grew thoughtful. “And what about you, Kitty? Are you nervous about tonight?”
“Me?” Caterina asked, feigning ignorance. “Why would I be?”
Teresa arched a knowing brow. “Perhaps because a certain Duke will be in attendance? Or because Lorenzo might decide to interrogate him next?”
Caterina rolled her eyes, though her cheeks warmed. “Lori wouldn’t dare,” she said, a touch defensively.
“Wouldn’t he?” Teresa countered with a sly grin.
Caterina sighed, rising to retrieve her gloves from the vanity. “I’m not concerned about our brother’s opinions tonight. My focus is on ensuring you enjoy yourself without spiraling into a fit of nerves.”
“Nice deflection,” Teresa remarked, smirking.
Caterina shot her sister a playful glare before returning to her seat. “Tess, tonight is about you and Lord Ducker. Let me worry about my own affairs.”
Teresa’s teasing softened into a warm smile. “You’re always looking out for me, Kitty. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“And you’ll never have to find out,” Caterina promised, brushing a strand of hair from her sister’s face.
The door creaked open, and Teresa’s maid entered with a tray of sparkling jewelry. “Ladies, I thought these pieces might suit the young ladies this evening,” she announced, setting the tray on the vanity.
“Oh, how lovely,” Teresa said, her earlier worry melting away as she admired the shimmering gems.
Caterina selected a delicate sapphire necklace for her sister, fastening it around Teresa’s neck with care. “Perfect,” she declared, stepping back to admire her handiwork.
“And for you, Miss?” the maid asked.
Caterina chose a simple string of pearls, their understated elegance complementing her gown.
As the maid secured the clasp, Caterina glanced at her sister, whose eyes sparkled with anticipation.
“Feeling better?” she asked.
Teresa nodded her smile more confident now. “Much. Thank you, Kitty.”
“Good,” Caterina said, rising to her feet. “Now, let’s make our entrance”
Teresa laughed, taking her sister’s arm. “Lead the way, Lady of Confidence.”

The Langstone Ball was an affair of unparalleled elegance, a dazzling celebration of the arrival of the Duke of Lucca, and his family.
The Langstone estate, already known for its grandeur, had outdone itself for this particular evening.
Guests began to arrive at twilight, their carriages lining the long drive leading to the stately manor.
As they ascended the marble steps, a murmur of anticipation filled the crisp night air.
The ballroom itself was a masterpiece.
High, gilded ceilings soared above, their intricate designs shimmering in the glow of countless crystal chandeliers.
The walls were lined with tall, arched windows draped in rich velvet curtains of deep burgundy, their edges embroidered with gold thread.
Through the windows, the faint glimmer of lanterns from the garden added an ethereal quality to the scene.
Beneath the chandeliers, a polished parquet floor reflected the light, creating a sense of endless luminosity.
At the far end of the room, an elevated dais held the musicians.
They played a lively yet refined waltz, their melodies weaving seamlessly with the hum of conversation and the occasional burst of laughter.
The music set a tone of joviality and elegance, urging feet to tap and hearts to soar.
The decorations were a sight to behold.
Garlands of roses and greenery cascaded from the balustrades and twined around the golden sconces.
Ornate vases, placed strategically throughout the room, held arrangements of white lilies and crimson peonies, their fragrance mingling with the faint aroma of beeswax candles.
Tables along the periphery bore platters of delicacies, miniature tarts, sugared fruits, and crystal glasses brimming with champagne, attended by an army of footmen.
The guests themselves were a spectacle, a moving tableau of fashion and refinement.
Ladies floated across the floor in gowns of silk and satin, their skirts shimmering in shades of lavender, emerald, and rose.
Jewels glinted at their throats and ears, catching the candlelight with every graceful turn.
Gentlemen, in their impeccably tailored evening coats and cravats, moved with practiced ease, their polished boots clicking faintly against the floor.
The air was filled with the rustle of fabric, the clink of glasses, and the low hum of conversation.
Lady Langstone stood near the entrance, resplendent in a gown of deep blue adorned with silver embroidery.
She greeted each guest with poise, her warm smile a testament to her role as hostess.
Lord Langstone, standing beside her, exuded a quieter authority, his watchful eyes surveying the room with satisfaction.
At the center of attention, however, was Lorenzo Medici, the Duke of Lucca.
Dressed in a finely tailored ensemble of midnight black accented with gold, he cut an imposing figure.
His wife, Beatrice, was equally captivating in a gown of ivory and sapphire, her serene beauty complemented by her gracious demeanor.
Caterina and Teresa were not far behind their brother, each commanding attention in their own way.
Caterina, in a gown of soft green with gold, carried herself with a quiet elegance, her hair swept into an intricate chignon.
Teresa, by contrast, wore a gown of blush pink and radiated a vivacious charm that seemed to light up every corner she entered.
The sisters moved together at first, exchanging pleasantries with acquaintances and admirers.
The atmosphere was electric, charged with the unspoken currents of admiration, intrigue, and ambition.
Conversations ebbed and flowed, ranging from polite inquiries about the journey from Italy to subtle hints of potential matches being observed and judged.
Young ladies glanced demurely at potential suitors, while mothers watched keenly, their eyes flitting between their daughters and eligible gentlemen.
As the evening progressed, the dance floor became the heart of the event.
Couples glided across the floor in perfect harmony, their movements a blend of precision and passion.
The waltz gave way to a quadrille, then a lively reel, each dance a testament to the refined skill and grace of the participants.
Caterina found herself pulled into the festivities, though her thoughts occasionally drifted elsewhere.
She exchanged dances with a few gentlemen, each polite and charming, though none seemed to capture her attention fully.
As she moved across the floor, she caught sight of the Duke of Richmond, his commanding presence unmistakable.
He seemed to be scanning the room, his eyes narrowing slightly when they met hers.
Teresa, meanwhile, was in high spirits, dancing with Lord Ducker and drawing the attention of more than a few observers.
Their easy camaraderie and mutual affection were evident, their shared smiles and occasional laughter painting a picture of a couple deeply in love.
Lorenzo watched them from the sidelines, his expression softening as he saw his sister’s happiness.
─────────
While every corner of the room was alive, amidst the celebration, Caterina’s heart was heavy.
While her lips smiled and her hands gracefully accepted compliments on her gown, her mind was miles away, replaying a moment she wished desperately to undo.
She had decided early that evening, perhaps before she’d even descended the staircase, that she needed to speak with Benedict Bridgerton.
The guilt had gnawed at her since the day of his proposal, her harsh rejection playing on a loop in her mind.
She knew her words had been unnecessarily cruel, a reaction driven more by her own fears than anything he had done.
Tonight, she resolved to set things right.
As the evening unfolded, Caterina slipped away from the crowded ballroom, her heart pounding.
She’d seen Benedict earlier, a fleeting glimpse of his tall frame moving among the guests, his smile warm yet reserved.
Her eyes had followed him until he disappeared, and now, as she scanned the room, she realized he was no longer among the dancing couples or the chatting groups.
Her resolve grew as she moved through the crowd, exchanging pleasantries but always keeping an eye on the corners of the room, hoping for a glimpse of him.
Finally, after what felt like hours, she saw him slipping out to one of the balconies.
The cool night air kissed her cheeks as she stepped onto the balcony.
Moonlight bathed the stone railing, and the sounds of the ball softened to a distant hum.
Benedict stood with his back to her, the moonlight bathed him in silver, highlighting the sharp lines of his profile.
She hesitated for a moment, her courage faltering.
But then she took a deep breath and stepped forward. “A beautiful night, isn’t it?”
Benedict turned, his expression unreadable.
“Miss Medici,” he said, inclining his head politely, “Indeed, it is. Though I suspect it’s even more beautiful inside, where the company is livelier.”
Caterina smiled faintly, encouraged by his light tone. “I think you overestimate the charm of the company, Mr. Bridgerton. I’ve been among them all evening, and yet I find myself out here.”
He raised a brow, a flicker of amusement crossing his face. “Am I to take that as a compliment? Or are you merely admitting to escaping boredom?”
“A bit of both, perhaps,” she replied, her smile growing.
But then her tone turned serious, “Mr. Bridgerton, I’ve been looking for you all evening to… to apologize personally for what happened between us.”
He studied her for a moment, his posture straightening. “You do not need to apologize, Miss Medici.”
“All the contrary,” she insisted, stepping closer, “I do need to. My reaction to your proposal was… disproportionate. Unladylike. Rude, if not even cruel. I cannot fathom what overcame me that day, but I humbly request your forgiveness.”
Benedict’s gaze softened, though there was a guardedness in his eyes, “Miss Medici, you don’t have to explain yourself. I knew the risk when I asked. You gave me your answer; that should be enough.”
“No,” she said firmly, her voice trembling with emotion. “There were a thousand ways I could have refused your kind offer, but I chose the worst. I said things… horrible things about you, about your family. Words I will never forgive myself for. I hurt you in a way I cannot undo, and for that, I am truly sorry.”
For a moment, the only sound was the faint music drifting from the ballroom.
Benedict’s face was unreadable, but then he let out a soft chuckle, surprising her, “You know,” he said, his tone laced with humor, “when we were children, Eloise and I had a game where we tried to outdo each other in saying the most ridiculous things about people. I think you might have won without even trying.”
Caterina blinked, startled, and then a laugh escaped her, soft and genuine. “Is this your way of sparing me from drowning in guilt, Mr. Bridgerton?”
“Not at all,” he replied with a grin. “I simply think it’s unfair that you’re the only one carrying this burden. I should share some of it. After all, I did propose to you in a rather ill-timed and dramatic fashion.”
She shook her head, her smile lingering. “No, the fault lies with me. You’ve been nothing but kind and patient, and I rewarded you with cruelty.”
She hesitated, her voice softening, “I truly value what we had, Mr Bridgerton. Not as it was, of course, but as friends. I know that the love you feel for me is… perhaps momentary, an infatuation that will pass.”
Benedict gave a soft, humorless laugh. “You’re remarkably confident in your ability to assess another’s heart, Miss Medici. Are you certain you’re not mistaken?”
A faint blush crept up her cheeks, but she met his gaze with quiet determination. “I am certain of very little, Mr. Bridgerton. But I do know that I value your presence in my life and would like to preserve it, even in a different form.”
His expression grew thoughtful. “Friendship,” he repeated, tasting the word. “It’s a peculiar thing to aspire to after a rejected proposal, don’t you think?”
“It is,” she admitted, her cheeks warming.
He studied her for a long moment, then smiled faintly. “You’re a rare creature, Miss Medici. Most ladies would simply avoid me. But here you are, seeking to salvage what you can.”
“I’ve never been one to take the easy path,” she replied, a hint of mischief in her voice.
Benedict chuckled, the sound rich and warm. “That much is clear. Very well, Miss Medici. Friendship it is. But I must warn you, I’m a terrible friend. I tell awful jokes.”
Caterina laughed, the sound genuine and free. “I think I’ll manage”
“Wise of you,” he said with a grin.
The moment stretched, their laughter fading into a comfortable silence.
Then Caterina glanced toward the ballroom, her expression turning wistful. “I should return inside. My family will be looking for me… I'm pleased that things have settled between us.”
Before she could step away, Benedict’s voice stopped her. “Miss Medici,” he said, his tone more serious now. “The Duke… is he courting you?”
She froze, the question catching her off guard.
Slowly, she turned to face him, her cheeks tinged with color. “I… yes, I believe he is ” she admitted quietly.
His expression remained neutral, though his gaze seemed to pierce through her. “And does that… please you?”
Caterina hesitated, the question throwing her into confusion. “I, yes. He is kind and attentive,” she said cautiously. “But I do not think it is proper to discuss such matters.”
Benedict nodded, his eyes lowering briefly before meeting hers again. “Of course. Forgive me for prying.”
She offered him a small, polite smile, her composure returning. “Goodnight, Mr. Bridgerton.”
“Goodnight, Miss Medici,” he replied, his tone soft.
As she disappeared into the ballroom, Benedict leaned against the railing, his thoughts a tangle of emotions.
Her apology had been heartfelt, her laughter genuine.
And yet, as the night stretched on, he couldn’t shake the feeling that there was still more between them, something unspoken, lingering like a shadow beneath the moonlight.
─────────
Benedict remained on the balcony long after Caterina had disappeared into the ballroom, her delicate figure swallowed by the glow of chandeliers and the hum of the crowd.
He gripped the stone railing, its coolness grounding him as his thoughts churned.
The night air was crisp, carrying with it the faint scent of roses from the garden below, yet it did little to calm the storm within him.
Her words lingered like a haunting melody.
“I truly value what we had”
He closed his eyes, trying to make sense of the whirlwind of emotions that her unexpected apology had unleashed.
She had sought him out, searched for him, she had said.
Not for polite conversation, not for obligation, but to apologize.
To make amends.
To heal a wound she had inflicted days ago.
Did it matter that she was sorry?
Benedict wasn’t sure.
The memory of her rejection, sharp and searing, was still vivid.
It wasn’t just the refusal, it was how she had done it.
Her words had been like a whip, tearing into him with precision and purpose.
She had dismissed his love, his sincerity, and him.
The memory still stung.
But tonight…
He opened his eyes and stared into the gardens below, their neatly trimmed hedges and sparkling fountains illuminated by moonlight.
Tonight, she had stood before him, vulnerable and earnest, her voice trembling just slightly as she spoke.
The Caterina Medici who had once cut him down with sharp words had shown a softness he hadn’t seen in her before.
And it unnerved him.
Benedict was no stranger to forgiveness.
In a household as large and lively as his, grudges rarely lasted long.
Eloise’s sharp tongue, Colin’s mischievous pranks, or Hyacinth’s relentless teasing, were daily occurrences, and apologies were often swift and sincere.
But this… this was different.
Caterina wasn’t family.
She wasn’t someone he was obligated to forgive or someone he could easily tease and banter with as if nothing had happened.
She was Caterina Medici.
Beautiful, intelligent, infuriating Caterina.
And she had apologized.
Her words echoed in his mind.
“There were a thousand ways I could have refused your kind offer, but I chose the worst.”
The way she had looked at him, her eyes wide and glistening, had made him believe her.
She had regretted her actions, not just for his sake but for hers too.
Yet, even as he replayed the conversation, he couldn’t ignore the other thing she had said.
The Duke.
Benedict’s jaw tightened as the thought of the man crept into his mind.
He had seen the way her cheeks flushed when he asked about him, the way she had hesitated before answering.
It wasn’t a bashful blush, not entirely, but it was enough to stir something unwelcome in Benedict’s chest.
Jealousy.
The realization hit him like a punch to the gut.
He was jealous.
Not of the Duke’s title or wealth, but of the time he spent with her, the smiles he undoubtedly coaxed from her, the way she might be learning to trust him.
Benedict scoffed under his breath, the sound bitter and self-deprecating.
Of course, she would blush at the mention of the Duke.
He was everything a young woman like Caterina could hope for.
A title, a fortune, and no doubt a charming demeanor to match.
He likely didn’t paint sketches or dabble in pursuits society deemed unworthy of a gentleman.
But did the Duke know her?
Benedict frowned at the thought.
Did the Duke understand the way her voice softened when she recounted stories of her family, or how her eyes sparkled when she talked about art?
Did he know how fiercely loyal she was, or how her wit could both challenge and delight in equal measure?
And then there was her laugh.
He could still hear it, clear and genuine, from just moments ago.
It had caught him off guard, the way her guard had slipped and allowed her to laugh at his teasing.
It had been too easy, too natural as if no time had passed since they were friends.
Friends.
The word felt like both a gift and a curse.
She had offered it so sincerely, her voice steady despite the vulnerability in her eyes.
Friendship.
Benedict let out a long breath, running a hand through his hair.
Could he truly stand beside her as a friend, knowing he still loves her?
Knowing she was being courted by another man, a Duke, no less?
Could he watch her smile, hear her laugh, and not wonder what might have been?
Yet, her words had struck a chord in him.
“I truly value what we had”
what we had.
She had chosen that word carefully, and he couldn’t ignore the weight it carried.
Perhaps she did regret how things had ended between them.
But was that enough?
He thought back to the softness in her voice when she apologized.
There had been no falsehood in her words, no artifice.
Caterina Medici was not a woman who apologized lightly, and tonight, she had laid her pride bare before him.
And yet…
Benedict straightened, his grip tightening on the railing.
The Duke.
Benedict sighed, a mix of frustration and resignation settling over him.
He didn’t know the answer.
Caterina had made it clear she wanted to move forward as friends, and he had to respect that.
And perhaps it wasn’t his place to ask.
But the flicker of hope that had ignited in his chest during their conversation refused to be snuffed out.
As he stared out at the moonlit gardens, Benedict allowed himself one brief, selfish thought: perhaps their story wasn’t over.
Not yet.
And as much as he tried to push the thought aside, he couldn’t help but wonder if Caterina felt the same.
─────────
Caterina stepped back into the ballroom, the vibrant swirl of colors and sound washing over her like a tide.
The chandeliers above cast their golden glow across the room, reflecting off jeweled gowns and polished buttons.
The hum of conversation mixed with the lively strains of the orchestra, and everywhere she looked, people were laughing, dancing, and enjoying the festivities.
Yet, she felt a strange detachment, as though she were merely observing from a distance.
Her thoughts were heavy with her conversation with Benedict.
His words, his tone, the way his expression had shifted, everything lingered in her mind like an unfinished melody.
She had meant every word of her apology and every sentiment about their friendship, but his question about the Duke still echoed in her head.
She shook herself lightly, smoothing her gown and taking a steadying breath.
Focus on the present, Caterina.
Scanning the room, her gaze fell upon a familiar figure.
His brother stood near the far corner of the ballroom, engaged in conversation.
Beside him, tall and impeccably poised, was the Duke of Richmond.
Caterina’s heart gave an involuntary flutter at the sight of them.
Her brother, always charismatic, was gesturing animatedly while the Duke nodded, his expression one of polite attentiveness.
Caterina hesitated only a moment before making her way across the room.
As she approached, the Duke’s head turned slightly, and their eyes met.
His lips curved into a warm smile, and Lorenzo, noticing her arrival, broke off mid-sentence to greet her.
“Caterina,” Lorenzo said, his voice warm. “I was just telling the Duke about your infamous talent for convincing me to get into trouble as children.”
Caterina raised an eyebrow, a small smile tugging at her lips. “Infamous, is it? I recall most of those plans being your idea.”
Lorenzo laughed, clapping the Duke on the shoulder. “Do not believe her, Your Grace. She’s always been far more clever than me.”
The Duke chuckled softly. “I find that entirely believable.”
Caterina felt her cheeks flush slightly under the weight of his gaze.
“The Duke is an excellent conversationalist, though I must say, he is remarkably reserved when it comes to tales of his own mischief,” Lorenzo said with a grin.
“I assure you, I have none worth recounting,” the Duke replied smoothly.
“None worth recounting or none you wish to admit?” Caterina teased gently, her tone playful.
The Duke’s smile widened a faint glint of amusement in his eyes. “A fair distinction, Miss Medici.”
Before Lorenzo could interject, the Duke turned to Caterina. “Miss Medici, would you honor me with a dance?”
The question caught her off guard, though she quickly masked her surprise with a polite smile. “I would be delighted, Your Grace.”
Lorenzo stepped aside, his grin unabashedly teasing. “Try not to step on his toes, sister.”
She rolled her eyes affectionately at her brother before taking the Duke’s offered arm.
He led her gracefully to the center of the ballroom, where couples were already moving in time to a waltz, the soft strains of the orchestra surrounding them in an almost dreamlike haze.
The flicker of candlelight cast a warm glow across the polished floors, and the laughter and chatter of the guests added a lively undercurrent to the atmosphere.
As they began to dance, Caterina found herself acutely aware of the Duke’s presence.
His touch was firm yet gentle, his hand steady at her waist, guiding her effortlessly through the intricate steps.
His posture was regal, as though he were born to lead, and Caterina, in contrast, felt herself falling into the rhythm of his command with a certain quiet ease.
Yet, despite the grace of their steps, her mind drifted, her attention slipping from the Duke for a mere moment as her gaze wandered across the room.
And there, in the far corner of the ballroom, she briefly spotted him.
Benedict.
His eyes caught hers from across the sea of swirling dancers, and in that instant, a wave of emotions rose in her chest, catching her off guard.
So caught up in the sight of him, Caterina’s foot caught on the hem of her gown, and she stumbled slightly, her body swaying dangerously off balance.
Her hand instinctively gripped the Duke’s shoulder for support, and she felt a sharp gasp escape her lips.
The Duke, ever the gentleman, steadied her instantly, his hand tightening reassuringly around her waist.
“Are you well, Miss Medici?” he asked, his voice calm but laced with concern.
Caterina’s heart raced, a flush creeping up her neck.
“I’m fine,” she quickly replied, her words a little too sharp, betraying the sudden flurry of thoughts in her mind. “It was nothing.”
She regained her composure and adjusted herself in the dance, forcing her attention back to the Duke.
The music resumed, and their feet began moving in tandem once more, but her thoughts lingered on the fleeting moment she had shared with Benedict.
His presence always had disrupted the careful mask of composure she had been wearing so tightly.
“You seem distracted, Miss Medici,” the Duke remarked softly after a moment, his tone light but observant.
Caterina blinked, offering him a faint smile. “Not distracted, precisely. There is simply much to think about these days.”
“A fair answer,” he said, his expression unreadable. “Planning a wedding must be quite an undertaking, even if it is not your own.”
She laughed softly. “That is an understatement. My sister has more opinions about flower arrangements than I ever thought possible.”
The Duke chuckled, his gaze warm. “And what of you? Are you fond of such events, or do you merely endure them for the sake of duty?”
Caterina hesitated for a fraction of a second, considering her answer. “I enjoy them, in truth. The music, the dancing, the chance to see familiar faces, it has its charm. But I must admit, there are moments when I long for something simpler.”
“A sentiment I understand all too well,” he replied, his tone thoughtful. “There is a certain appeal in escaping the grandness of it all, even if only for a little while.”
Their conversation ebbed and flowed as the dance continued, light and polite.
His questions were thoughtful, his attention undivided, and yet, despite his charm, Caterina’s thoughts kept drifting.
does that… please you?
Benedict’s question replayed in her mind, unbidden and persistent.
She felt her cheeks warm as she recalled how Benedict had looked at her when he asked it, not with bitterness or anger, but with something deeper, something she couldn’t quite name.
Did she like the Duke?
She couldn’t deny his many admirable qualities.
He was kind, intelligent, and undeniably handsome.
But did she feel for him the same way she felt for Benedict?
The comparison was impossible to ignore, and she chastised herself for even entertaining the thought.
“Miss Medici?” the Duke’s voice broke through her reverie, and she realized she had been silent for longer than was polite.
“My apologies, Your Grace,” she said quickly. “I fear I’ve been a poor conversational partner.”
“Not at all,” he said, his tone reassuring. “If anything, I’m grateful for the respite from questions about the latest political debates or hunting expeditions.”
She smiled, genuinely this time. “In that case, I’m glad to be of service.”
The waltz came to an end, and the Duke led her back toward the edge of the dance floor.
As they paused, he bowed slightly. “Thank you for the dance, Miss Medici. It has been a true pleasure.”
“The pleasure was mine, Your Grace,” she replied with a graceful curtsey.
As he stepped away to rejoin the crowd, Caterina found herself letting out a quiet breath.
She glanced around the ballroom, where she briefly spotted Benedict, and felt a pang of uncertainty.
What am I doing?
She couldn’t deny the Duke’s kindness or the potential of what he offered.
But something about tonight, about Benedict’s words, his presence, and even her apology, had stirred feelings she thought she had buried some time ago.
Taking a deep breath, Caterina turned back to the crowd, determined to face the rest of the evening with poise.
But in her heart, she knew that the questions swirling in her mind would not be so easily silenced.
─────────
The soft glow of the morning sun poured through the grand windows of Langstone’s drawing room, casting a warm, golden light that reflected off the ornate furniture and elegant décor.
It was a peaceful morning after the excitement of the ball the night before, the lingering energy of the evening still hanging in the air like the gentle notes of a sweet melody.
The laughter and chatter of women filled the space, accompanied by the soft sound of teacups clinking and the occasional delighted exclamation from the children playing at the hearth.
Lady Medici, regal as ever, sat poised in her favorite chair near the window, her fingers delicately holding a cup of tea as she gazed out at the well-manicured garden.
Beside her, Lady Langstone looked equally content, her eyes twinkling as she caught up with her cousin, discussing the success of the previous night’s event.
Beatrice, Lorenzo’s wife, sat near her, her calm demeanor almost a mirror image of Lady Medici’s, but with a gentler air.
She glanced occasionally at the two young children, Vittoria and Luca, who were playing near the fire with their toys, their laughter filling the room with lightness.
Vittoria was especially animated, weaving intricate stories with her dolls, while Luca tried to mimic her in the most endearing way possible.
Cynthia and Olympia, ever the lively pair, occupied a chaise lounge, their heads together in whispered conversation, their eyes twinkling with mischief.
The lively discussion of the ball was at its peak, each woman recounting a detail or a fleeting moment from the evening before.
They spoke of the grandeur of the event, the music, the dances, the gentlemen, everything that had made the night unforgettable.
“You know,” Lady Langstone said, her voice rich with excitement, “I think the ball was one of the finest we’ve had in weeks. The atmosphere was so lively, and the guests… well, they certainly kept things interesting, didn’t they?”
Lady Medici chuckled lightly, her voice low but full of warmth. “Indeed. It seemed as though everyone in town was eager to attend. I dare say the guest list alone could have kept some of the ladies up for weeks, debating who was invited and who wasn’t.”
Beatrice laughed, her eyes brightening with amusement. “And the dancing! I haven’t seen such energy on the floor in ages. I think even my feet are still aching from all the waltzes.”
The lighthearted conversation swirled around Caterina and Teresa, who sat quietly together on a loveseat by the window.
The two sisters, though not speaking, were very much in tune with one another.
They shared an almost telepathic bond, their silent communication enough to convey everything that words could not express.
Teresa looked radiant as always, the excitement of her engagement still fresh in her expression, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
Despite the joy that filled the room, something lingered in the air around Caterina, a quiet restlessness, an unease that she couldn’t quite shake.
Her thoughts kept returning to the conversation she’d had with Benedict on the balcony. His words had stayed with her, even as she tried to convince herself that things were fine.
She had apologized for her rude refusal, for the sharp words she had said to him, and he had graciously accepted.
It was the right thing to do, but somehow, the weight of what had transpired between them remained, unresolved in her heart.
As the ladies continued their discussion, Caterina’s gaze wandered to the children again.
Vittoria had just dropped her doll and was now chasing Luca around the room, laughing as the boy, with his round face flushed with excitement, tried to escape her.
The scene brought a soft smile to Caterina’s lips, though her mind was far from the carefree playfulness of the children.
She turned her gaze back to her sister, who was watching her with quiet curiosity.
Teresa noticed immediately.
She always did.
With a gentle nudge of her elbow, she leaned toward her sister, her voice low enough for only Caterina to hear. “Kitty” she began softly, her tone carrying a quiet concern. “What’s bothering you? You’ve been distant all morning.”
Caterina hesitated, her fingers curling around her teacup as she looked at her sister. “It’s nothing, really. Just… the ball, I suppose. Everything feels like it’s moving so quickly. I’m not sure where I fit into all of it anymore.”
Teresa raised an eyebrow, her gaze sharp and knowing. “Don’t be ridiculous. You fit just fine, as always. What’s really bothering you?”
Caterina sighed, her shoulders slumping slightly as she placed her teacup back on the table. “I spoke with Mr Bridgerton last night. After everything that happened, I felt I needed to apologize for the way I treated him.”
Teresa’s eyes widened in surprise. “You spoke to him? I thought you would never do such a thing, you told me”
Caterina looked down, her fingers tapping nervously on the edge of the cup. “I know. But I had to. It wasn’t fair to him. He didn’t deserve the things I said.”
She glanced at her sister, her voice tinged with uncertainty. “I apologized, and we’ve agreed to be friends. But…” She faltered, not sure how to put it into words.
“But?” Teresa prompted, her voice gentle but insistent.
Caterina hesitated, choosing her words carefully. “But it feels strange, Tess. He’s like changed. There’s this distance between us now, something that wasn’t there before. And I don’t know how to bridge it.”
Teresa considered this for a moment before responding, her voice thoughtful. “You can’t expect everything to go back to how it was. But you did the right thing. You apologized. What more can you do?”
Caterina nodded, though she wasn’t entirely convinced. “I suppose. I just… I don’t want to lose that connection with him.”
Teresa smiled, her gaze softening. “It just takes time. Just don’t overthink it. Let it unfold naturally.” She paused, her tone lightening.
The conversation lulled as the two sisters exchanged quiet thoughts, their connection growing deeper with every shared word.
Soon enough, the conversation turned back to the lively chatter of the other ladies, and the children’s laughter again filled the room.
─────────
The Bridgerton dining room, with its high ceilings and wide windows, was bathed in the golden light of a late morning.
The polished mahogany table gleamed beneath a pristine white cloth, laden with a spread of fresh fruits, breads, and steaming pots of tea.
The sounds of laughter, clinking china, and the occasional rustle of paper echoed through the room, creating a symphony of domestic cheer.
At the head of the table sat Lady Bridgerton, her posture elegant as she sipped her tea with an indulgent smile, watching the lively chatter of her sons.
To her left was Anthony, already impeccably dressed despite the early hour, his dark brows furrowed slightly as he buttered a slice of toast.
Benedict, seated across from him, looked far more relaxed, his cravat slightly askew and a mischievous gleam in his eye.
Colin, perpetually the least serious of the lot, lounged in his chair, occasionally snatching a pastry from a passing tray.
Their cousin, Lord Edward Ducker, sat at the other end of the table, a picture of youthful enthusiasm.
Despite his attempts to appear composed, his animated gestures as he recounted the events of the Langstone ball betrayed his excitement.
Beside him sat his mother, Lady Ducker, who watched her son with amused indulgence.
Edward leaned forward, his eyes bright. “I must say, the Langstone ball was a rather splendid affair. Everything was so well-orchestrated, from the music to the decorations. And the Medici family, what a commanding presence they have.”
Colin raised an eyebrow as he bit into a scone. “Commanding, you say? Is that your polite way of saying they’re intimidating?”
Edward grinned, undeterred. “Not at all. Though I must admit, Miss Medici’s brother, the Duke of Lucca, does have a rather… formidable air.”
“Formidable?” Benedict repeated, his voice dripping with amusement. “Now that’s an understatement if I’ve ever heard one. The man looked as though he could cut someone down with a single glance.”
“Perhaps,” Edward conceded, a slight flush creeping up his neck. “But I found him to be perfectly civil. We had a long discussion about estate management and—”
Anthony interrupted, his tone dry. “You mean he interrogated you about your intentions toward his sister.”
Edward blinked, taken aback. “Not exactly. Though I do believe he wanted to gauge my character.”
“And did you pass the test?” Colin asked, leaning forward with mock seriousness.
Edward straightened his shoulders. “I’d like to think so. He even called me a ‘respectable gentleman.’”
The Bridgerton brothers exchanged glances before bursting into laughter.
“Respectable!” Benedict said, feigning astonishment. “Edward, you’ve truly outdone yourself. To earn such high praise from the Duke of Lucca is no small feat.”
Colin clapped his hands together. “We should have a plaque made: ‘Edward Ducker, Respectable Gentleman, Approved by the Duke of Lucca.’”
Even Anthony smirked, his usually stern expression softening. “I hope you realize that’s the equivalent of him saying he doesn’t actively despise you.”
Edward rolled his eyes but couldn’t suppress a smile. “Laugh all you like, but I’m confident I made a good impression. And I’d like to see any of you fare better in his presence.”
“Oh, I’d fare just fine,” Benedict said, leaning back in his chair. “I’d compliment his fine taste in Italian architecture and steer clear of any mention of his sister.”
Lady Ducker, who had been listening quietly, finally spoke up. “Edward, darling, if you spent half as much time focusing on Miss Medici as you do worrying about her brother, you’d be married by now.”
The room erupted into laughter, even Edward joining in despite his reddening cheeks.
“She’s right, you know,” Colin said, grinning. “You’re marrying his sister, not the Duke.”
Edward sighed dramatically, running a hand through his hair. “You lot are impossible.”
“And you’re easy prey,” Benedict countered, his grin widening.
Lady Bridgerton, ever the voice of reason, tapped her teacup lightly with her spoon. “Boys, let your cousin have his moment. He’s navigating uncharted waters, after all. Engaging with the Medici family is no small task.”
Edward nodded, his expression softening. “Thank you, Aunt Violet. Though I must say, Miss Medici makes it all worthwhile.”
The sincerity in his voice brought a brief pause to the table, and even the teasing Bridgerton brothers couldn’t help but smile.
“That’s the spirit,” Anthony said, his tone unusually approving.
“Indeed,” Colin added, raising his teacup in a mock toast. “To Edward, the brave and respectable gentleman.”
As laughter filled the room once more, Edward glanced at his mother, who gave him a small, encouraging smile.
It was clear that, despite the jesting, the Bridgertons were firmly in his corner.
Just as the conversation began to shift, a footman entered the room, announcing that the carriages would soon be ready for their errands.
The brothers rose reluctantly, their morning banter drawing to a close as they prepared for the day ahead.
As the group dispersed, Lady Ducker turned to Edward, her tone teasing. “You handled that well, my dear. But next time, perhaps don’t give them quite so much ammunition.”
Edward chuckled, adjusting his cravat. “It’s a fine line, Mother. But I’d rather be teased by the Bridgertons than face another interrogation from the Duke”
Lady Ducker laughed softly, looping her arm through his as they left the room. “You’ll be fine, Edward. If you can survive this family, you can survive anything.”
In the sunlight-dappled halls of Bridgerton House, the warmth of family lingered, a comforting contrast to the grandeur of the balls and the weight of impending proposals.
─────────
The Langstone gardens bathed in the golden hues of a gentle afternoon sun, were alive with the laughter of children.
Caterina knelt on the soft grass, weaving yet another daisy crown for her niece, Vittoria.
The little girl sat cross-legged in front of her, her cheeks flushed with delight as she chattered about becoming the queen of the garden.
Luca, her younger brother, toddled nearby, clutching a stick he had declared his royal scepter.
Teresa, seated on a cushioned bench nearby, kept an amused eye on them all, her hands busy embroidering a handkerchief. “Careful, Luca,” she called her voice light with affection. “You might accidentally dethrone Queen Vittoria with that scepter of yours.”
Luca turned and gave her a gap-toothed grin. “I’m the king!” he declared proudly, waving his stick.
“And a fine king you’ll make,” Caterina said, tying off the last flower in the crown.
She reached forward, placing it gently on Vittoria’s head. “There. Now you look regal enough to rule the entire estate.”
Vittoria clapped her hands and twirled, her giggles ringing like bells. “Thank you, Aunt Cat! I shall knight Sir Luca as my royal knight!”
“Knight or not, I think Luca prefers wielding that scepter like a warrior,” Teresa quipped, nodding toward her nephew as he brandished the stick in a mock battle against an invisible foe.
Caterina laughed, brushing the grass from her skirts as she stood.
The scene was idyllic, yet beneath the laughter, her thoughts were far from peaceful.
She had spent much of the day trying to untangle the complexities of her heart, though no answers had come.
As if summoned by her unrest, Lorenzo appeared at the far end of the garden path, his tall figure framed by the dappled sunlight filtering through the trees.
He paused, watching his sisters and his children with an expression that blended fondness and contemplation.
After a moment, he strode toward them, his boots crunching softly on the gravel.
“What a picturesque gathering,” Lorenzo called as he approached. “Queens, knights, and their devoted subjects. I almost feel underdressed.”
“Do you ever feel overdressed?” Teresa teased, setting her embroidery aside as she smiled up at her brother. “I believe your wardrobe consists solely of austere tailoring.”
“I’ll have you know, this jacket is quite fashionable,” Lorenzo replied, mock offense lacing his tone. “But I came here seeking the wisdom of my sisters. Kitty, would you walk with me?”
Caterina’s curiosity flickered as she handed Vittoria her scepter and took Lorenzo’s offered arm.
“Seeking wisdom from me? That sounds ominous, brother” she said with a teasing lilt. “Do you have a particularly challenging decision that only I can solve?”
“You’ll see,” Lorenzo replied, leading her down the shaded garden path.
Once they were out of earshot, his tone shifted, becoming more serious. “I wanted to ask your thoughts about Lord Ducker.”
Caterina raised a brow, taken aback by the question. “Lord Ducker?”
“Yes,” Lorenzo confirmed. “You’ve spent time observing them together. What do you think of him?”
Caterina considered her answer, a smile tugging at her lips. “I think Lord Ducker is… solid. Like a fine oak tree. Dependable, sturdy, and quite rooted.”
“An oak tree?” Lorenzo echoed, his lips twitching in amusement. “Is that your way of saying he lacks charisma?”
“Not at all,” Caterina replied, feigning indignation. “I’m saying he’s reliable, which is precisely what one would want in a husband. Tess adores him, and he clearly worships her. He’s respectful and kind”
Lorenzo chuckled, nodding. “You’re right. He does seem to care for her deeply. But as her brother, I still can’t help but worry.”
“That’s your job, isn’t it?” Caterina said, squeezing his arm. “To worry about all of us endlessly. But truly, Lori, Tess is happy. She’s chosen well.”
Lorenzo sighed, though a smile lingered on his lips. “I suppose I should trust her”
They walked in companionable silence for a moment before Lorenzo turned to her with a pointed look. “And what about you?”
Caterina blinked, suddenly wary. “What about me?”
“What are your thoughts on the Duke?” he asked, his tone casual but his eyes sharp with interest.
Caterina felt heat rise to her cheeks. “The Duke is… a gentleman,” she replied cautiously. “Polished, courteous, and every bit the image of nobility.”
“And yet,” Lorenzo pressed, “your tone suggests there’s more you’re not saying.”
Caterina hesitated, her gaze dropping to the gravel. “I suppose I haven’t spent enough time with him to form a complete opinion,” she admitted. “He is… impressive, but I, well, I find it difficult to know what to think.”
Lorenzo stopped walking, turning to face her.
His expression was both serious and curious. “There’s something you should know,” he said after a moment.
Caterina frowned.
Lorenzo exhaled, his voice lowering. “The Duke approached me last night. He asked for my permission to propose to you.”
Caterina froze, her eyes widening. “He… he asked for your permission?”
“He did,” Lorenzo confirmed. “I told him that while I wouldn’t oppose the idea, the decision ultimately rests with you. But I thought you should be aware.”
Shock rippled through Caterina, leaving her momentarily speechless.
The Duke of Richmond, thoughtful, polished, and enigmatic, wanted to propose.
The weight of it pressed on her chest, and she struggled to find her voice.
“I… I don’t know what to say,” she stammered.
“You don’t have to say anything right now,” Lorenzo said gently. “But I wanted you to know”
Before Caterina could gather her thoughts, Teresa’s voice rang out from the other end of the path. “Lori! Kitty! Vittoria insists her royal court requires your presence.”
Caterina exhaled a shaky breath, grateful for the interruption.
As Luca and Vittoria came racing toward them, Lorenzo stepped back, giving her a small, knowing smile.
Their conversation was left suspended, the implications of his words lingering like a shadow over the garden.
Caterina bent to scoop Luca into her arms, but her thoughts were miles away, tangled in questions without answers.
What did she truly feel about the Duke?
The main reason why she and Teresa are in London.
The Duke was everything a lady of her status should desire: handsome, noble, refined, a man of dignity and integrity.
His courtship had been respectful, methodical, and patient.
And his intentions were clear, he was not merely seeking her beauty or her fortune, but the prospect of a genuine partnership.
It was everything she had been taught to want, everything that made sense for her future.
Yet, even as she stood there, surrounded by the quiet comforts of Langstone House, the warmth of her family’s presence beside her, her mind drifted back to a moment that had stolen her breath and shaken her very foundation.
Benedict Bridgerton’s proposal.
The words echoed in her mind, louder than any conversation she had had with the Duke.
Why, did she find herself thinking of him now?
Why, when the Duke’s proposal was no longer just a possibility but an imminent reality, did her mind keep drifting back to Benedict and his words?
The truth was, that Caterina felt conflicted.
The Duke was everything she could want but Benedict…
Could she move forward with the Duke, allowing herself to be swept into a future of security and respectability, or would she always wonder how could have been if she had said yes to him that evening?
─────────
The fading light of the day poured softly into Caterina’s room, casting long golden beams across the lush rug and furniture.
The silk curtains, tied back with braided cords, fluttered gently in the evening breeze, adding a quiet rhythm to the stillness of the space.
In the corner, Vanessa carefully unpacked the accessories for the evening, a shimmering array of pearls, and a delicate gold necklace.
The gown, already laid out on the fainting couch, was a masterpiece of craftsmanship: soft ivory silk with gold embroidery tracing delicate vines along the bodice and hem.
It was perfect for dinner at the Bridgerton estate, a subtle statement of refinement and elegance.
Yet, amidst all this beauty and quiet preparation, Caterina sat at her dressing table, lost in thought.
Her hands rested idly in her lap, her gaze fixed not on her reflection in the ornate mirror, but on some invisible point beyond it.
Vanessa, ever watchful, paused in her task of untangling a pearl necklace. “My lady” she began gently, “if I may be so bold, you’ve been unusually quiet this evening. are you quite well? Is something troubling you?”
Caterina blinked, her gaze snapping back to the present.
She met Vanessa’s eyes in the mirror and forced a faint smile. “oh yes, I am perfectly fine. nothing troubling” she replied, though the lie was evident in her voice.
Vanessa arched a brow, her hands deftly fastening the necklace onto a padded stand. “Forgive me, but I’ve known you long enough to recognize when ‘nothing’ is quite the opposite.”
Caterina sighed, her shoulders slumping slightly. “I suppose I cannot hide anything from you,” she admitted. “It’s just… tonight feels heavy as if there’s more at stake than there should be.”
Vanessa came to stand beside her, resting a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “Dinner with the Bridgertons? Surely it’s nothing to worry about. They seemed charming and kind people”
“It’s not the dinner itself,” Caterina murmured. “It’s what lingers beneath it all. The expectations, the undercurrents.” She hesitated, her fingers toying with the edge of the lace handkerchief on the table. “Vanessa, the Duke is courting me. And… I believe he intends to propose.”
The maid’s expression didn’t change, though her hand on Caterina’s shoulder stilled for a moment. “I suspected as much,” she said carefully. “And how does that sit with you, Miss?”
Caterina bit her lip, turning to face her maid directly. “I don’t know,” she confessed, her voice trembling slightly. “By all accounts, I should be elated. Becoming a duchess is everything a woman could hope for especially when her partner is kind, dignified, and undeniably handsome.”
Vanessa’s gaze softened. “But?”
“But when I think of a life with him,” Caterina continued, “I feel… hollow. Not because he’s lacking in any way, but because I don’t know if I belong there.”
Vanessa took a seat on the small upholstered stool beside her. “Miss Caterina, it sounds as though you’re trying to convince yourself of something you don’t feel. The heart doesn’t obey logic or societal rules.”
“I know that,” Caterina said, frustration creeping into her voice. “But it’s more than that.”
Vanessa studied her for a moment, then asked quietly, “Do you love him?”
The question hung in the air like a challenge, and for a long moment, Caterina couldn’t answer.
Instead, her mind drifted to another man.
Vanessa must have seen the flicker of something in Caterina’s expression because she leaned closer. “It’s not the Duke you’re thinking of, is it?”
Caterina’s cheeks flushed a deep rose, and she turned her gaze to the window, refusing to meet her maid’s perceptive eyes. “That’s irrelevant,” she said softly, though her voice carried a faint quiver. “I did not come here to fall in love, Vanessa. All the ton knows that.”
Vanessa tilted her head, her lips curving into a gentle smile. “Perhaps, Miss, but I’ve found that love rarely cares for plans or intentions. It tends to bloom in the most inconvenient of places.”
Caterina let out a faint, humorless laugh, her fingers nervously tracing the intricate embroidery on her gown. “You speak as though it’s a blessing. For me, it feels like a curse, a complication I cannot afford.”
Vanessa crossed her arms lightly, watching her mistress with a steady gaze. “And yet, you speak of love as though it’s already found you.”
“I never said—” Caterina started, but Vanessa held up a hand, silencing her with a knowing, almost sisterly look.
“You didn’t have to, Miss. Your eyes betray you,” Vanessa said gently, her tone neither prying nor judgmental. “If it’s not the Duke of Richmond who stirs this turmoil in you, then who?”
Caterina froze, her throat tightening as memories rushed forward unbidden.
She clenched her hands into fists, forcing herself to push the memory away.
She shook her head firmly, her jaw tightening as though to physically banish the thought. “Who it is does not matter,” she said with a strained calmness.
Vanessa’s brows lifted slightly, her expression softening with curiosity and quiet understanding. “Oh, but it does matter. It matters if it’s someone who holds your heart.”
Caterina turned abruptly to the vanity, her fingers brushing over the edge of a silver hairbrush as if grounding herself with the sensation. “No, it doesn’t,” she said, her voice sharper now. “Because my heart cannot afford to belong to anyone. Not him. Not the Duke. Not anyone.”
Vanessa approached slowly, her movements deliberate and gentle. “Forgive me, Miss, but you’re not the type to let fear dictate your choices. Why now? Why deny yourself this?”
Caterina let out a bitter laugh, one devoid of mirth. “Because it’s not about what I want. It’s about what I must do. My family needs me to make a wise match. I cannot…will not be a source of shame or disappointment again. I need to repair for what I did.”
Vanessa’s lips pressed into a line, her eyes filled with a blend of empathy and frustration. “My lady choosing love is neither reckless nor shameful. The events of the past now mean nothing, Don't let yourself become a victim of the past, you are still capable of love”
The words struck Caterina harder than she cared to admit.
Her grip on the hairbrush tightened her reflection in the mirror a portrait of poise cracking at the edges. “You make it sound so simple,” she said quietly.
Vanessa tilted her head, a faint smile tugging at her lips. “It’s never simple. But the right thing rarely is.”
Caterina’s gaze dropped to her lap, her fingers fiddling with the lace of her gown.
The weight of Vanessa’s words pressed against the walls she had so carefully constructed, and for a fleeting moment, she allowed herself to feel the truth of them.
But the moment passed, and she straightened her shoulders, donning the mask of composure she had perfected over the years.
“Thank you, Vanessa,” she said softly, signaling the end of the conversation.
Vanessa hesitated, then nodded, stepping back to give her mistress the space she seemed to need. “Of course, Miss.”
As the maid returned to her duties, Caterina’s mind churned with thoughts and emotions she couldn’t quite name.
The mirror before her reflected not just her image but the storm brewing within, a storm she would have to hide before stepping into the Bridgertons’ dinner.
