Merfolk au Arno, as voted upon on my Patreon!

I really appreciate the support and this was really fun to do and get out of the way 💖 I’m not super familiar with Arno’s character but my partner helped me a ton so thank you and shoutout mwagh

Some lore reasons for this species assignment:

Picked a lightning maroon clownfish bc while they do occur in nature, they’re mostly aquarium fish/bred as ‘designer clownfish’ but for the sake of the au he’s just this species by happenstance.

Thematically it’s bc he’s a little more ‘domestic’/was raised as a ward (low key a glorified servant from what I’ve been told).

He’s resistant stings and venom, and that’s kinda like. His capacity to put up with toxicity from other characters around him and that kind of bullshit i guess??.

He’s a highly mutualistic guy (with a fondness for cnidarians). He depends on that kind of bond to survive, and his arc with Elise is like that kinda,, but it’s fated to not to be in canon (clownfish can’t survive well outside of their reefs and rely on symbiosis, Elise would be epipelagic and much more independent)

Good parental instincts !! I don’t know much about the dead kings dlc but I heard despite his conflicts with Léon he does pull through and protect him in the end. Clownfish are particularly good and attentive fathers towards eggs, protecting and fanning them

Idk how this happened. I was just brain rotting about mers and an octopus with dark purple and bright red palette. And people on discord were brain rotting about sj eclipse. And it clicked... And I just started drawing it on a stream. We also were thinking how we can make him have a fucking unbuttoned shirt lmao. And Bean did come up with a good option but I didn't know how to add it while we face his back so he's kinda nakey here fldnnekfkd. Nevermind, I just like how he turned out and I'm excited <33

Merfolk.

It is Mermay after all lol. But anyway!

Danny? Can't remember why he reincarnated, or quite how old he was when he died a second... third... fourth... however many times. He thinks he was an adult- or adult adjacent? But now he's not.

In fact? He's tiny, with pudgy little hands that press against glass and it's weird how he's somehow breathing in the liquid which is freezing. Which is what honestly drives him to hit it- and it shatters.

Which brings him to realize? He has no legs. None. Nadda. He's like, like some sort of seal-person, if they had stripes and spines and a too-long tail. And some medical equipment still attached that he practically rips away with a jolt of terror, even if he isn't sure why.

He's in a hall or room, with lots of other tubes, some empty but most... not. Most have things in them, things that look sort of like him but also not... He tears his gaze away from them, already knowing they're dead even before reading the terminated in front of them.

Oh. He has... information? Information in his head, downloaded into it almost like burning a CD. He's a clone. No, not a clone, it's something more like... a test tube baby? Three donors, though he isn't aware of what their names mean.

If it is names and not like, codenames or code words.

His movement is so very slow, it's obvious that while he's able to go on land he's very much not designed to do so. But eventually he makes it somewhere, not an exit but something he's so very happy to have not missed.

There's another alive person, labeled 1 instead of 9 and bigger than him but missing the spines he has. A sibling. A brother. And he's going to get the both of them out of here- there's water tunnels, he knows that, it's part of the information in his head.

.... Okay it's not fair that he has a scruff he can be grabbed by. Like that's so not fair. Look, they have to go that way if you want out, c'mon.

Extra Info? -Technically the merfolk of the world are more akin to selkies, able to take on a human form via shedding their skin -Danny & Match aren't aware of this, hence why they don't just start walking -Around 2/3 of the entire world is merpeople or other similar fantasy creatures -Yes, this is after the not-sidekicks break Superboy (#13) out & before the episode where he learns about Match

LATE MERMAY POST - Because last month my job was very hectic and this weekend happens to be June already 😔

I wrote a quick small drabble below that goes with this drawing, enjoy

Sebastian is a magical shark merman that loves exploring new places and has a voracious appetite for adventure. While exploring the Greenland Sea, he encountered and fell in love with Winter, a rare mythical species of Betta mermaid that could live in icy seawater. He discovered after talking with her that there are currently only three of these Betta merfolks in the entire Arctic ocean, including her.

He could only see her a couple of times a week because his body could not withstand the icy temperature and his self-warming spell could only last for a day. During the remainder of the time, he would have to return to his home in the Northern Atlantic Ocean.

When she first met Sebastian, Winter was enthralled with his vast knowledge and intellect, as well as his witty and charming attitude. He has a kind and loving heart, despite the fact that he could be rather crafty at times and his stubborn disposition occasionally left her shaking her head.

Sebastian adores her quirky personality and caring nature, and he became even more enamored with her when he discovered that she possesses both intelligence and curiosity that rivals his. And Merlin’s bloody tail, while he finds her beauty captivating, her desire for knowledge is as powerful and forceful as the Gulf Stream, and he’s a goner for her. When he comes to visit her place, they always spend time together, whether it's going on long swims exploring places or simply chatting for hours.

Driven by a desire to see each other frequently, he trained his body to become more tolerant of the cold while she increased her tolerance to warmer waters. He would teach her spells to keep her body chilly while he practiced his self-warming charms to last even longer than before.

Even though their training allowed them to spend days or even weeks together, their enchantment doesn't endure long enough for their liking.

Nevertheless, they are resolute to search for a way to remain together, indefinitely, without the use of their magic.
