your favorite character is bedridden for a while. they've been sick for about a month or so and it's been getting worse and worse at an exponential rate.

you go to their house that morning to check on them when you see them out of bed. they had a surge of energy.

they obviously still look sick and are still actually sick, but they're doing stuff and they're out of bed.

they're currently doing whatever task around the house suits their character (looking at old photos, sorting laundry, cooking, cleaning, etc)

"hey, what are you doing out of bed [character name]?"

"hey! i'm [doing task]."

"oh, thank you!"

you smile and they continue what they were doing before. eventually they tire themselves out and ask to be put back to bed.

you decided to stay with them until morning as a surprise.

that night, before you and them fell asleep, they began to speak

"i love you, [name]."

"i love you too, [character name]."

"will you always be there for me?"

"yes, of course."

"be there by my side?"

"no matter what."

"even if we get separated, will you come back to me?"

"always."

you hold their hand and intertwine your fingers. they smile happily at your response and drift off. you do the same shortly after.

[character name's] hand was cold and lax in yours, which was warm and a bit moist from sweat.

you felt your heart drop into your stomach and cause a nauseous feeling to start to bubble up. you hoped they had only just gotten chilly in the night.

you slowly and dreadfully looked up at their face, hoping for the best.

the best did not come. they were not breathing. they were paler than usual, and their face was relaxed into a calm expression.

they were dead.
