Okay so luigi's arc on the surface is gonna be about how mario's always underestimating him, BUT it's really gonna be about how mario constantly undervalues luigi and how bowser is the first person in luigi's life to see him as a whole person
This is to say there WILL be a few short scenes where luigi's attempting to ask bowser out but keeps getting his ass kicked by the mushroom kingdom's various flora and fauna (he attempts to pick a bouquet of flowers and is overwhelmed with the side affects of the various powerups, he tries to catch a fish for a romantic dinner and ends up getting bit by a cheep cheep/catches a bone fish, etc.)
#random thoughts#nintendo#mario#okay so like the undermining thing right#the main conflict is that mario like doesn't value luigi and only sees him as a cowardly little brother he has to protect#but like. luigi's actually angry because he feels mario doesn't value him? and takes him for granted?#like luigi does all the 'feminine' chores and has girly hobbies or something and mario doesn't view them as actual work or actual interests#mario is. basically sexist and homophobic. which i think is fitting since he's voiced by crisp rat#and at the end of the movie luigi does this big display of heroism and mario is like 'wow my cowardly little brother?? can do hero things?'#meanwhile when luigi turns up at bowser's castle he's not only appreciated he's REWARDED for doing things which were ignored at home

Like you know how sci fi tends to view robots as people with some things missing, like empathy or a sense of humor, and most stories about robots end with them developing a sense of empathy?
Mario views luigi like one of those robots. He's an incomplete person. He could do all the things mario does if he just APPLIED himself. He could get over his cowardice if he just WORKED HARDER.
