Idk how to say this in way that doesn't sound insulting, but movies push my ability to suspend disbelief when they have hot young things fall in love with 50-60s Jimmy Stewart
#like if all the girls in the movie are somehow into silver foxes that's pushing it kind of but I'll go along with it#but just liking silver foxes isn't going to make Jimmy Stewart work#and like when he was young sure whatever#I still see plenty of women mooning over young Jimmy Stewart NOW#but like#middle aged and on Jimmy Stewart is your dad#your cool uncle at best#an attractive 20-something gal is NOT going to fall in love with him#this is all because it's the second time I've watched Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak paired#and I still feel like the heroine's interest might make sense with some other guy much older than her-- but not with Stewart#like they throw a 20-something at Cary Grant and I'm like ethically I'm against how normally this is being treated but it works ok#and then like Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief feels like she has enough daddy issues that of course she's into him#meanwhile Stewart shows up at the door in Vertigo and it's like your father's sad friend is here#no old man thirst in the world is powerful enough to jump that “hiya pops!” energy#watch me immediately be contradicted by somebody on this site who hasn't hit 30 yet and still dreams of jumping Stewart's avuncular bones
