Ashley was not one to let anyone touch her guns--let alone someone she really didn't know well. Sure Garrus had been on the Normandy for a while, and they'd spent some time talking shop about guns, it wasn't enough for Ashley to trust him with her hardware. She'd begrudingly let Kaidan help her calibrate a concentration module she'd picked up on the Citadel last week, but not after a lot of coaxing on the Lieutenant's part. Fortunately for Kaidan... well, he was sweet and friendly, and he damn well knew how to manipulate it.

Garrus... was more like Ashley. Blunt, tactically apt, and straightforward. A little rough around the edges, too. In this situation, their similar personalities weren't helping; it was just a matter of which of the two of them was more stubborn than the other. Ashley held the rifle in her hands with a narrowed gaze, like it were her baby (and it was--she treated her guns with expert care).

"I don't care who certified it. You're not touching my weapons." She was firm on that point. It wasn't even that it was Garrus; she just didn't want anyone touching her stuff. "And I certainly don't need anyone to do it for me. If I want it, I'll do it on my own." She turned back to the bench, setting down her rifle that she'd been working on and carefully pulled it apart, cleaning each of the internal mechanisms with care and delicacy.

"And if you think it's 'just a scope', then you don't know your gun tech very well, Vakarian," she shot back, eyes narrowed. "It's a Cipritine Armory X-51C scope designed in collaboration with the Kassa Fabrication line of Harpoon rifles. It makes the Harpoon wickedly accurate, but the calibration changes the penetration power of the Harpoon to be significantly lower to make up for the accuracy given by the scope. I've got a Rosenkov Materials Volkov rifle, and because of the Volkov's design, the loss of stopping power from the Volkov's penetration capabilities makes it worse than the Harpoon if you add the X-51C. I don't like how the Harpoon handles, and I can manage the Volkov's kick to maintain nearly the same level of accuracy the Harpoon gains from the enhanced scope."

Garrus looked absolutely unamused with her answer; though a Turian face was harder to read the way his hands sat at the crooks of his hips was sort of a universal language. 

“I’m offering to help, Chief,” he started slowly, though a bit impatiently. “Palaven-certified tech upgrades will give you an advantage with long-range fire. It’s just a scope.” 

“I’ll even do it for you.” Now that last one was a little snotty of him.
