me, kicking myself in the teeth:
“One day, when we have a mission near the D’Astan Sector, we’ll sneak away afterward and I'll show you the big dragon skeleton in the natural history museum in Serenno City.” I try to look at Dooku over the takeout boxes he keeps balanced on the armrest like a little fortification. “Why are you sad about dragons?” “Because he always wanted one as a pet and Master Yoda said he couldn't have one. No room in the Temple.” “Master,” I huff. He’s disassembling again, weaving a story of epic proportions that might have some truth to it, if I put it in a mass spectrometer to separate it out. Sifo-Dyas closes his eyes and holds up a hand, waving it as if wafting the smoke of entheogenic herbs toward his face instead of the mixed vapours of takeout from Dex’s. “My vast powers of precognition are telling me how often you will be using that tone with me in the future.” This time I groan and slap at his knees. “Master.” “You are going to be the most patient person on this planet by the time I'm finished,” he says, reorganising his own takeout boxes on his thighs, making sure not to pull them entirely into his lap. “But now is the only thing that exists. The past is dead and the future,” I pause, a phrase flitting into my head. “The future is still slouching toward us to be born.” “I think there may be some truth to that idea of possession, after all,” Dooku says gravely.
