Wayward Academy

Heya, finally actually posting the story where these weenies came from. It’s in a script like format beginning with a narration bit, because i kinda want it as a visual novel or comic or something. Shrugs. Anyways I'd really appreciate any interaction with this post, I worked hard and I'm a little sad I don't have many people to yell about my Ocs with lmao. This blog is strictly art writing and oc rambling if that's interesting to ya!!!

It all started with a turtle. Yes, a turtle. No, I don't know why it caught my eye and no I don't think it's destiny or anything of the sort. Just... The right place at the right time? Or... Wrong place at the right time? ...Maybe it was the right place? Whatever. It all started with that turtle.

It wasn't the kind of night you'd expect it to be off when this sort of thing happens. It wasn't- It didn't- it *was* normal. Warm with a cool breeze, the kind of night that gently reminds you that colder seasons are coming, the heat of a summer day giving way to a cool, refreshing night. It was nice, is what I'm saying. Just a nice night. Peaceful, quiet. I was walking along a fence that marked the edge of a private hunting property, listening to the last crickets and peeper frogs singing their last songs of the season before they slept. Or died. For the crickets at least. It had been a long day at a mindless, soul crushing retail job, and I just wanted to get back to my flat.

Then I noticed that turtle.

It was stuck on its back, i-i always heard they can't really get up once they're stuck like that but I never actually saw it. You'd think after, like, millions of years of evolution they'd learn how to flip themselves back but, whatever. It was a pathetic little thing, waving its little feet in the air and rocking back and forth.

Obviously I wanted to do something, why wouldn't I? I'm not, not some, some ass who just leaves a poor animal in trouble. But what was I to do? The fence stretched for as far as I could see in either direction, and the top was fitted with some nasty looking barbed wire to keep out trespassers. I remember kneeling on the damp ground, ignoring the chill and looking at the poor thing, trying to think of what to do. Was there a stick nearby? Maybe if I... Just tried to get my hand through the chain link? No, no, it was too far for... Either of those things. And then I.. I..

You... You ever drop something when you're younger, and you try to just... *Will* it back to you, like maybe you have some sort of latent super power you'll suddenly realize by making your pen or-or remote fly over to you? I guess I was trying to do that, as I watched it struggle, imagining a mental push from underneath, enough to nudge it over.

And... It did.

At least, I think it did. I saw a blue... Swirly bit of light, kinda like those orbs on those... um, paranormal.. video... Things. It started next to the turtle, and-And it moved up and towards it, it actually moved *up* and the turtle, it... he Moved with it!

I think I kind of... Dissociated there. Maybe? Or just a regular panic attack. Or shock, I guess. I remember... Staring, at my hands, just, staring, trying to... To see if maybe, I dunno, they looked different somehow? Glowy like that blue mist too? But no, they were normal.

Then I remember a shadow passing over me, and getting up way too quick, and tripping backwards over the curb and... Then nothing. I guess I passed out? There's... No way to really know I guess, but I'm pretty sure I did. It's really disorienting to be doing one thing and suddenly be snapped to another moment, like no time passed at all between me falling and me groggily listening to the conversation around me.

Voice 1

*Dry, uninterested* you killed him.

Voice 2

No! He erm, he's just uh, I...

Voice 3

It's my fault anyway, I should of been more... Humany when I went to greet him. The look on his face though? Like he never saw a giant lizard before! Hilarious.

Voice 4

Well, we can't do anything about it now--

Voice 2

H-hey I think, I think he's coming to! Is.. that the right word? “Coming to?”

Voice 1

Ugh...

*M.c. (main character) opens his eyes, wincing as he slowly sits up, groaning weakly*

T-turtle...?

Voice 2

Oh yeah! The turtle!

Voice 4

Keep your voice down Dylan, poor thing probably has a headache from that tumble.

Dylan

Right right right right *backing away and getting quieter*

Voice 4

Hey there .... Buddy? Are you doing okay, ah... That wasn't uh, what we meant to do-- do you even know what happened?

M.c.

Mmmmnnnoo? *Still out of it*

Voice 4

Good! Uh. Forget everything I said just then. I'm sure that won't be hard to do, you seem uh... Not quite ready to understand words just yet.

Voice 1

Maybe he's just stupid.

Voice 4

Lucas!

Lucas

*Shrugs with a grunt*

Voice 4

... Rude asses aside... *Focuses back on mc* I'm Josephine

....

Voice 3

You're 'supposta tell us your name now.

Lucas

*Quietly, in a slightly sing song voice* told you...

Josephine

*Glares at lucas, who seems to not care in the slightest, then turns back again to mc* you can take your time, love. Ignore these louts

Voice 3

Hey...

Dylan

*Quietly* What's a lout...

I-- my name is- uh... Faust. Call me... Faust.

Josephine

Ooookay then... Faust? So uh... What do you ah, what do you remember?

Dylan

*In background* I think it's a type of fish...

Faust

*Groaning again and rubs his head* theeere... was a tuuurtle...?

Lucas

Riveting.

Dylan

*Continuing in background* why are we fish...?

Josephine

Okay.... Okay you know that's good, actually. I know uh, some people with head injuries only remember half their day. At least you uh, probably aren't too damaged? Maybe. We hope so. We had nothing to do with it by the way.

Dylan

Wait, I thought Riley--

Josephine

Shush, shush shush...shhh *covering Dylan's mouth who says something muffled but that vaguely sounds like "what about the fish?"*

Voice 3, probably Riley

*Muffled laughs*

Faust

Uh... Can I go home now? *Unsteadily getting to feet*

Josephine

Maybe that's for the best--

Dylan

*Loudly interrupting* We gotta talk about the thing!

Faust

Wh..what? Thing? I .. what?

Dylan

*Getting louder* the thing you did! We saw you do the thing! *Excited pointing*

Josephine

Dylan....

Riley

He's right

Faust

I don't-

Dylan

The-- the turtle thing, you made it go... Woosh? No no, not a woosh. More like a... A... Little... Tap...?

Faust

Look, I don't know what you saw, but it's not anything you need to... Do anything about. A turtle was stuck on his back, I... I watched him, some wind or-or something blew and he walked away. You can't... *Prove* anything else happened

Riley

Ain't getting away that easy bud, I asked the turtle, she said she was good and stuck before she felt a gentle push over. I asked about the wind, she said there weren't any.

Faust

... You asked the--

Riley

Doesn't matter. ... So do ya know the x-men?

Lucas

We are *not* the x men

Dylan

I'm more of a y man myself.

Josephine

*Urgently* You guys are gonna overwhelm him...

*Incoherent chattering and bickering as the group discusses what they're going to do. Some words are discernable, such as "how are we gonna tell 'im" and "the professor said..." "hey what about the fish"*

Faust takes advantage of this by edging along the wall of the alleyway they had taken him to before breaking into a sprint when he clears the group.

Lucas

... Should we chase him?

Josephine

NO!

Riley and Dylan (overlapping with each other and Josephine)

Yes!!!

Riley

Majority rules! *She breaks into a sprint into the darkness of the night, her form shifting into a sleek four legged beast as she runs*

Dylan

Yeah! *Runs towards where Faust went as well*

Josephine

Wait-- no, stop. Ugh. Can you believe these guys *she turns to Lucas, but sees that the spot he was in is now empty*

*Muttering* dammit...

Faust is breathing hard as he runs, finding himself in a nearby shopping district. He loops around a few times, coming face to face with a giant reptile like creature with glowing markings that he fled from with a scream

Faust

*Between breaths* I... Have... *No* idea where I am.

He ends up at a dead end and looks around, it's empty and seems like a safe place to bunker down. He turns to the entrance of it and takes a peek out, seeing no one but hearing running in the distance. He turns back around to see if he can hide behind something, only to literally run right into Lucas.

Lucas

Hi.

Faust

OH JESUS F-- what, Why, ...How?

*Lucas shrugs, his face indifferent as he leans against the wall of the alleyway, sliding down and sitting on the ground.*

Faust

Um... Aren't you gonna like... Grab me and take me back? That's how this works right?

Lucas

*Grunts and shrugs again, taking out a pack of cigarettes*. Want one, blondie?

Faust

Uhm... No, i-i don't think they're very y'know, healthy?

Lucas

Well, picking your gums when you’re stressed isn’t healthy either.

Faust, stopping what he was doing

Fair enough....

-silence for a bit-

So uh... What... Kind of music do you listen to...?

Lucas

*Quietly stares* that... Was not what I was expecting you to ask.

Faust sits down next to Lucas, deciding that he was safer in the alleyway than running around a place he didn't know at whatever time of night it was. They sit in silence for a while.

Faust nervously looks at Lucas and then away from him a few times, trying to stutter out words.

Lucas

(interrupting the stuttering) So, blondie, seems like you have a fun little party trick you can do, hm?

Faust

I don't...

Lucas

Riight

Faust

Listen, I don't know what you want but--

Lucas

Listen. *He throws aside the cigarette* There's nothing wrong with what we saw, exactly, but there are people out there who can and will take advantage. If you just... Hear them out, I think it would make a lot more sense. I don't really like being pulled around either, but at least we don't have to deal with fighting government goons or whatever would come after us.

Faust

I-- ... I dont-- ... *takes a breath* o-okay.

Lucas nods as the sounds of footsteps come closer, Faust turns his head to the source of the noise.

Lucas

You never saw me.

Faust

*Turning back* I-- *the alleyway is empty*. .... Right, might as well, I guess. *Sighs*

Dylan is panting and leans against a wall while trying to get his breath back

Dylan

Hey... Faust... Don't skip leg day... Or you'll end up like this. *He half sits down and half collapses*

*Josephine and Riley wave as they walk over*

Riley

Told ya I smelled him over here

Josephine

... So you could of tracked him without giving him a heart attack this whole time?

Riley

*Considers for a second* ... Nahhh.

Josephine rolls her eyes before addressing Faust

Sorry about ... All this *she sweeps her arms around as if referring to everyone* We want to talk to you, truly we do. The rest got ahm... A little excited? We didn't think we'd find anyone like you this soon to be honest.

Faust

It's, it's fine, I needed to get some uhm... Exercise anyway.

Dylan

where's Lucas?

Riley

Probably jumped off a building to get to bed faster

Faust

Wait what, what did you, what? Wait w-wait --wait! Is-is he okay?

Riley

*talking over Faust*. So anyway, We got a proposition for ya. How'd ya like to live with all your living expenses paid while learning how to use your powers n'... Other boring education stuff.

Faust

not going to lie, that sounds like a scam.

Riley

... yea I said that too.

Josephine

It's not though! Truly, the Professor seems like a really nice dude, if not a little...

Riley

he's super weird dude, but not in a bad way, like cool weird.

Josephine

... Eccentric.

Faust: ... Not sure if I can deal with more of that, to be honest.

Josephine

Listen, we really think that it'd help, we... Haven't quite started yet ourselves but... It all seems really nice.

Faust

... So you're bringing me into something that you don't even know

Josephine

I.. uh...

Riley

Sorta.

Dylan

We get extra credit if we help find more people!

Josephine

*grabbing at Dylan to try to quiet him down, he tries talking while muffled by her hand*

Faust

Oh. *Sounding legitimately disappointed* so... It's not me. You just want to get some extra benefits then?

Josephine

*Sheepishly* I... Was going to tell you?

Faust

Alright.

Josephine

Alright?

Faust

I'll try this... This whatever it is out. It's not like anything can get much worse, could it?

Dylan

*Confidently* things always can get worse!

Josephine

*Cutting in* but they won't! *Quietly* I hope...

Riley

*Handing Faust a bit of paper* here, this is supposedly when the first orientation is, we'd really really really like it if you came with us? No pressure.

Faust, reading out loud

To my momentous delight, it has come to my astute attention that you have the unique requirements to be invited to the brand new prestigious Wayward Academy. This is a place for those who do not belong anywhere else, who could not possibly come to their full potential without the support of our diligent staff... (Jeez these are a lot of big words) ... And we wish to formally invite you to our orientation and interviewing process to find out where you can fit in our family. Any who bring a friend or enemy who also shows potential will receive extra amenities that have not yet been decided upon, but we promise they will be quite a treat! I am excited to also inform you that this letter of invitation also serves as a confirmation of a grant that will be awarded to you if/when you are approved for admittance which will pay for lodgings on or off campus. I would be honored if you would allow me to interview and learn about your talents and how you would fit in here. Please consider a visit!

*As he's walking away* I... Guess?

*after a few more seconds*

... I still don't know where I am.

I found my way home eventually, of course. I guess that's kind of obvious since I'm here and not uh, frozen to death or mugged or eaten by animals. And uh... I-im honestly not quite sure... What else to say...?

Sonic Frontiers Thoughts - Part 1

I recently started playing Frontiers (I know a bit late, I just finally had the time) and have made it to the 3rd island (haven't progressed very far on that island as of yet) and I'm so far mostly enjoying the game, though I have a bit of issues (that are probably things I won't be the first to voice).

To start off with, all of the issues I'll be talking about will be with the story. I don't play many video games outside of some Sonic games and a few Nintendo games like Mario and Zelda, so I don't have much to say on things like gameplay. I'm not particularly bothered with any gameplay elements so far.

Most of my issues are with the character interactions. They started off fine, but sometimes there was some kinda weird/awkward dialogue. I felt on the first island it was most egregious when Amy was talking about wanting to share the love she saw between the 2 Koco/Ancients with the world. What does even that mean? Why does she even want this? Now, I prefer her characterization here over her just being obsessed with Sonic like in previous games, however, despite beings improvement/a move in the right direction, I'm not sure I'd say this characterization is great/perfect. I checked the translation for the Japanese script here and saw she talked about thinking about who she wanted to be, and I think whilst it still feels a bit weird, I prefer that. I feel like her character seems a bit too calm though. I wish she had a bit more spunk/energy (maybe something akin to her characterization in Sonic Boom where she was chill but could go a little crazy (I don't think crazy is the right word here, but I'm having trouble finding the right word)) because it kinda feels she's been defanged. Of course, I don't think there's been any reason for her to show a more energetic side (if she has one) in this story so far, so it's less an issue with writing and more so a concern of what could be.

I find the interactions with Knuckles to be more egregious. The body language, even in English seems kinda weird. I was wondering if this was a translation issue (since I think a lot of Sonic games have their Japanese script made first) but found body language was an even worse issue in the Japanese and that it truly was animated for the English script. Now, I should say, I get what they were going for. I know they wanted to convey a friendly rivalry between the 2. I like the idea of this. However, the execution feels like they're aliens trying to imitate human emotions and relationships. I found the smiles and partially closed eye expressions kinda weird. There's something off about those expressions and don't know entirely what those individual expressions were supposed to convey. I don't know if this was just because of it being difficult to express the emotions they wanted through their models, having weird ideas on how emotions are conveyed, or both. I also really don't like how much they'd bend towards each other, getting their faces closer (that's just a pet peeve of mine though).

I'm not very far on the island with Tails so I don't have much to say on that. I did get all the Egg memos from Big though. At first I was fine with them, but when it got to him talking about Sage possibly being his daughter, it felt weird to me. I personally don't like the idea of him having a Bowser and Bowser Jr.-esque relationship. And I should say, I get people, even villains can have many different sides. Hitler liked his dogs. I get it. Having a daughter doesn't make Eggman not evil anymore. That's not my issue. It just feels out of character. Why would he ever feel this way? I would get it if he meant "daughter" as in "the only one good enough to be seen as one of my own" (so as an extension of himself and his genius), but he seems to actually care about her and what she wants (shown when he wonders whether she'd prefer to be referred to as an "it" or "she/her"). Now, I don't think he should be callous to everyone, I would certainly get why he would look up to Gerald for example. However, Sage is his creation, just like Metal Sonic and his other bots, with the only difference really being that Sage is more advanced and more successful (also not fully made by Eggman's tech), so his genuine concern for her doesn't really jibe with me. I think going from who he was to someone who can actually see one of his very own creations as a person and treat them with respect is a MASSIVE development in his character that I simply don't believe could've happened in the timeframe it did. This type of development would be something a movie would be centred around. Though I should say, I think that even if they were able to develop this well, I wouldn't like it because I don't think this is a direction they should go in the first place. The mere idea of the plot point for some reason fills me with visceral disgust and feels kinda fan-fiction-y. It feels kinda trendy/tropey now to give a villain someone to dote over to soften them and give them moments for people to fawn over and go "So cute! UWU". I think quite a few people see one such relationship and think that the character is actually good or "morally grey" rather than evil. I don't really see people being more nuanced and recognize that someone can still be evil and not be cruel and malicious to everyone they interact with (and that being nice to one person doesn't make someone good). Not to say EVERYONE doesn't have a nuanced view. Could just be a loud minority for all I know. I just worry this might taint discourse about Eggman and his character to some degrees (and in turn, possibly taint future characterizations to appease the fanbase).

I'm not really a big fan of the name drops/references to other games. I don't want them to pretend they don't exist, I'm fine with them being cognizant of them, however these references feel more like fanservice/forcible connection rather than something natural. I don't really think fanservice of this nature belongs in Sonic games. Sonic movies? Sure, but those are loosely (very loosely) based on the games. A new game is a completely new instalment though. All references made to previous instalments should be natural. To clarify my views, let's think about a movie. This movie was pretty good and in fact gets a sequel. All references to the first movie this sequel should make should be natural. We should be seeing everything naturally progress from that movie, not have a moment like in Frozen 2 where Olaf dramatically retells the story of Frozen whilst we see some character get super invested in this story (not that this happened in Frontiers, I was giving a more exaggerated example to kinda show what I was saying, however, the references felt more like the writers slapping you saying "Do you remember this?! Aren't you happy we're bringing it up?!" rather than a natural continuation which is my issue).

My last issue is with Super Sonic (though this is a more minor issue). It seems (so far at least) you play as him for every boss fight. Now, I really like flying around, being invincible, and playing as Super Sonic. My main concern is that I wonder where the games go from here. Will this be a one off thing and we go back to the usual of it only being for the true final boss? Also, part of me worries that in so doing this, it makes Super Sonic less special.

Anyways, that's all of my thoughts so far. Haven't finished the game yet, so maybe my opinion might change on some things. This is just what I have for now. I should also say that this doesn't mean I dislike the game. Like I said in the beginning, I'm mostly enjoying it. I like the core story for the most part and enjoy running around the islands and completing cyber space levels (I also think the loading icon getting more sides as you progress (was a triangle when on first island, square when on 2nd island, and is now a pentagon when on the 3rd island) is really cute). I just had a few issues I wanted to get off my chest. If you actually somehow read all of this, I applaud you and hope you have a nice day!

i've heard preacher is super good (tho i haven't read it) but i know this guy has also been credited with doing some incredible superman and justice league work, upholding the characters with major respect. props to that for sure, and reading the boys was honestly just a major eye opener on its own. it was *incredible* critique on the military industrial complex and capitalism, front and center with no holds barred.

as far as i know, this guy's (def a fan of gore lmao butt~) also a huge fan of graphic novel style works like miller's dark knight returns.

there's some intensely amazing stories out there. and when they do this kinda outside the norm/status quo rejecting stuff or don't have a 'disney style' lens or happy end, it just hardcore flies over peoples heads because the concept of 'not that simple' or 'artistic freedom' doesn't seem to stick with some folk. worse is that people have a habit of judging a book by its cover/what they hear through the grapevine (much like people) rather than checking it out themselves/making an effort to understand it first hand.

a lot of people don't want to make the effort to properly analyze and hold their own thoughts on stuff, they'd rather just someone else do it for them, parrot the same ideas they first heard, and declare any disagreement or additional debate wrong (even when you flat out prove them wrong)

it's really telling when we get a confession that says, 'i don't understand why x happened' for this kinda stuff (not limited to ennis but stuff clearly made to make the reader think/absent of an author's personal opinion) because it's a perfect example of someone who never learned how to read context or think for themselves.

which is tragic, honestly. and i get it, part of the problem is the education system.

i realized too that i write almost exclusively with unreliable narrators and aim for the same sorta neutral (mostly heheheheh i got some leans) set up the best writers out there tend to give. not just cause i find it hilarious, but cause i try to get inside the characters heads and define them as their own people, rather than just an extension of my hand fit up their ass for my fantasies or being my sock puppet.

i *WISH* we could have more neutral/morally grey *writing* out there with imperfect characters doing imperfect things or even being shitty people *without* people trying to act like it's a reflection/personal declaration of opinions on the writer. because understanding that helps us reflect on our own imperfections and biases, maybe even be a little less judgy on the world around us<3

but not understanding that *kills* good creativity in the absolute worst way.

i can't even count the amount of times i've seen fans go off, dehumanize and insult (sometimes even harass) a writer in the industry literally producing the content they enjoy for the crime of... not producing it *exactly* the way they wanted like a perfectly mind read script (jesus christ people, wtf do we even have fan fiction for if y'all go off and pull that shit). and that's not to say there isn't bad writing from supposed pros out there (there absolutely is *cough*cough*lookin' at you *endgame*mcu*), that's to remind people that these ain't frickin' robots.

they're not even the ones making all the money (if the recent strikes were any indication, always remember that artists/writers getting mistreated by the industry is STILL rampant, ESPECIALLY with big companies like *disney*, but most of hollywood ain't so good either)

they're also *people*, who ain't you, and ain't fuckin' perfect, and they don't gotta be neither. stories can be flawed or not made specifically revolving around our own ideas, and we can still enjoy them, just like we would from another fan fic author.

granted, we may still show favoritism towards our own work (LMAO), but seriously, how damn stuck up you gotta be to denounce everything that ain't made by you or for you or people like you?? (at least have the decency to recognize your own trashhood~<3 WOOOOOOOOOO--)

lmao prolly why i love neutral writing so much. just tells the story/ lesson in depth, leaves us to think for ourselves.

How do you deal with writer's block?

Hello, your ask is much appreciated!

Typically and personally, when my other options are exhausted and my eyes wander over an empty page or Google Doc, my voice to crack in lamentation and sheer disappointment in oneself, and, oh dear, the aggressive pen clicks—and here I am being well ahead of the question. When one finally recovers from the self-criticisms and the ideals of what your hands could've made for your priceless children in your stories and yet you wasted it...

Be made aware, my dear Sir/Madame/etc., there is still hope! Attempt to recollect yourself (only needed if you have a crisis as I do, but this can also be for fun), brew coffee or tea, consume your favorite beverage without a single care. Go online, read or listen to songs that remind you of your WIP, stories, characters, concepts and everything else; this also can be applied to other works such as poetry, books, social media posts, even art, memes and advertisements and more. Pick up on their language, see what they tell you, and you might be inspired to write about it. Copy some key words you'd like to use in your writing, or sentences or phrases that resonate with you or characters or a general story and save it for when you finish your trek. You now have your drink and you have a new word bank to begin with.

If the above is ineffective, try limiting all distractions and stare into the void as you would on the bus from school. Then, literally just mentally start scripting what you want, or let it all come to you. This may or may not help depending on your level of imagination, level of attention span or otherwise, still worth a shot however! During this, ask yourself what words can be used to describe those actions your characters are doing, what the scene smells, looks, feels and sounds like, think of all the cool words, write them as soon as they come to you. It can be as simple, deep or poetic as you'd like, don't hold back what you'd say about it. Write everything as it comes to you, do not worry about quality nor plot relevance—like how you'd record your dreams on paper when you wake, they never require themselves to make much sense. Making sense is for later in the process when you take what you wrote in order to make it fit a plot. Brain go brr now, edit later.

You can also have plenty of fun with friends asking questions about your characters or your WIPs, this can occur during questionnaires or while you rant about things, and sometimes this is found in strange formats. For example, me and a friend played DnD to describe a character's day with dice.(@imbadatnicknames if you're curious, they make neat as heck characters). One could be mad libs, just becasue. One I do more than I'd like to admit is "secret cosplay", where I "play" as a character for a while to really get a sense or who they are and how they'd genuinely behave, and you can also see them and yourself develop from this over time. I'll be in my room (my poor, poor parents), exclaiming, pretending to be a tiny arsonist who's husband can barely manage her, or a heavily clumsy lawyer-knight in a secret relationship with a beautiful unisex-dressing prince with their own issues. Really get into it, I mean REALLY into it, like a theatre kid gone crack feral. Kinda reinforces the previous point a bit: let the brain go brr without judgement or hinderance.

If all that still cannot suffice, it seems counterproductive, everyone tells you, but, just write. ANYTHING. Like "haha yeet" on a google doc, just write something, literally anything. Something is better than nothing. And slowly you could possibly fool your brain into working around a scrunkly disaster of random crap into forming something like dialogue, maybe a funky 'lil monologue to use in that feral theatre kid method.

TL/DR: There are many different ways to deal with writer's block, including but not limited to: reading other works, staring into the void and letting your imagination yeet into oblivion and writing what you see in your head, literally pretending to be a character, DnD, typing gibberish to reboot your brain.

Did Legacies' Matt Davis Spoil A Ton Of What Happens To Alaric And Hope In Season 2?

I think he did. The headline, I mean. I think The Vampire Diaries alum Matt Davis (Alaric Saltzman) just went ahead and dropped major spoilers for what's ahead in Legacies Season 2. Granted, he may have added a few things here and there. We won't know for sure until October 2019.

Matthew Davis was just at San Diego Comic-Con, and sat down at the press round tables for a game of "Maybe/Maybe Not." I already dove into what he said about Alaric's twin daughters Josie (Kaylee Bryant) and Lizzie Saltzman (Jenny Boyd), heavily hinting to their uncle Kai Parker (Chris Wood) and how that Vampire Diaries character could be introduced in Legacies Season 2.

But let's go back to what Matt Davis said about Alaric and Hope Mikaelson. It's hard to know what to believe, but the part at the start about Alaric not being headmaster anymore in Season 2? He said the same thing in a video interview with Extra, next to Hope actress Danielle Rose Russell. In that same Extra interview, he also repeated the stuff about possibly getting a new love interest in the new sheriff in Mystic Falls.

Matt Davis seemed to get a dirty look off-camera after that, maybe going too far with spoilers, but he went a lot further during the press round tables, so keep it all in mind. Here's how Davis started his Maybe/Maybe Not spiel when it comes to what's next for Alaric in the 2019-2020 season, picking up from the Legacies Season 1 finale:

“Alaric's been voted off the island, right, at the end of Season 1. He's been kicked out, and so we'll find him now months later, summer break coming to a close. He's been on sabbatical, he's grown out his beard, his hair's grown wild. And he may be butthurt by the fact that the vote didn't go his way. He may have thought he would have been kept on as headmaster, but he's no longer the headmaster”.

Believable. Legacies Season 1 did end with Alaric putting his own fate as headmaster up for debate. Also, during a Comic-Con video with TVLine, Julie Plec said the first episode of Legacies Season 2 would start at the end of the last school year, and then they'd do a quick passage-of-time through summer in Mystic Falls before picking up right before the new school year. That does seem to track with what Matt Davis was teasing. Here's how Davis continued his own SDCC roundtable talk, which CinemaBlend attended:

“So in between jobs, he's looking for a new job, and he may or may not become principal for Mystic Falls High School. And there may or may not be a headmaster replacement for him in the Salvatore School. This replacement may or may not be actually on the level. This new headmaster may see the kids and their powers differently than Alaric does, and this new headmaster may or may not want to remove all the restrictions that Alaric was putting in place to protect them from themselves. And this new headmaster may or may not encourage the students to do things that Alaric would never encourage them to do. And this may or may not lead them in the best place”.

Boy am I already tired of the may or may nots, but if Alaric is no longer headmaster -- which is a believable next step -- then the Salvatore School would need someone new (unless Caroline finally returns, for heaven's sake -- it's your school, lady). I can buy the new headmaster being some supe-friendly, who potentially leans more toward the Voldemort end of things.

Also, with Alaric as the (possible) new principal at Mystic Falls High School and replaced by this new headmaster at the Salvatore School, Matt Davis said we may (or may not) reignite the high school rivalry and have another football game. The Vampire Diaries has a long history with Mystic Falls High School football, and you'll remember the Salvatore vs. Mystic Falls flag football game of Legacies Season 1. That's an annual tradition, so it would make sense to see it again.

Matt Davis has talked about wanting Alaric to find a love interest. He has the worst track record from The Vampire Diaries, and that bad luck continued into Legacies when he started making a move on Emma Tig (Karen David) right when she started dating Dorian Williams (Demetrius Bridges). Emma is now on a leave of absence from the school.

However, Matt Davis said something about Alaric maybe getting a new love interest who may be the new sheriff in town. That led reporters to joke that the new love interest is Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig), another character from The Vampire Diaries who showed up early in Legacies Season 1 as the sheriff in Mystic Falls.

If this new love interest scoop is true -- and he did repeat it to Extra on camera -- what happens to Sheriff Matt Donovan? Does he leave town? Get fired? Who is the new sheriff in town? That should be an interesting casting announcement.

Now on to how Alaric and Hope supposedly cross paths very early in Legacies Season 2, per more juicy details from Matt Davis:

“We may or may not find Hope locked in the Malivore pit at the beginning of Episode 1, and maybe by the end of Episode 1 she may get out of the Malivore pit. Maybe. She may or may not be wandering through Mystic Falls after she gets out, having been completely erased from everyone's memory, so she's a total stranger that no one recognizes. Maybe a monster got out of Malivore and she's in the process of tracking it down, in spite of the fact that no one remembers who she is. And she may or may not run into Alaric who is also tracking down the same monster. And they may or may not cross paths in pursuit of the same monster. And Alaric probably doesn't recognize when he runs into her. And she may or may not construct a whole identity to give to him, since he doesn't remember who she is. They may or may not partner up to track down these monsters in spite of the fact that he doesn't know who she is”.

Now my head is spinning. Hope already out of the Malivore pit by the end of the first episode? That I would not have expected. We already knew she'd be erased from everyone's memories, wherever she is. Interesting that Alaric and Hope may -- or may not -- end up tracking the same monster. What about Ryan Clarke (Nick Fink)? There's no mention of him here, but Julie Plec had said Hope and Clarke would have a dynamic akin to Bonnie and Damon from The Vampire Diaries.

During Julie Plec's Comic-Con talk with TVLine, she mentioned writing new brother and sister characters who are local to Mystic Falls and they will both have crushes on Hope in Legacies Season 2. So add those two characters to Hope's long list of admirers. Not sure what it means for her own true love Landon Kirby (Aria Shahghasemi) but I have to assume they find their way back to each other at some point.

It's hard to really know how much of this to believe. Did Matt Davis really just sit down and tell reporters every detail from the first two episodes? Because he did add at the end that all of that may or may not happen in the first two episodes. That is kinda believable, since the writers just started working on Legacies Season 2 in June, with production just starting two weeks ago, and the cast just starting filming this Monday, July 22. During the Extra interview, Davis and Danielle Rose Russell said they had read the first four episodes of the 20-episode Season 2 by that point.

There are some things we don't have to guess about. For example, that crazy new vampire coming to Legacies Season 2? He has been cast, and apparently he will indeed be a new love interest for Lizzie. Jenny Boyd said the early scripts for Legacies Season 2 were blowing her mind, and she also said during Comic-Con that the Season 2 premiere mentions Lizzie visiting Caroline. That may be all we get from Caroline (Candice King) in the first few episodes, with no actual on-screen appearances yet, but give it time.

Legacies Season 2 will premiere Thursday, October 10 on The CW. If the new love sheriff/love interest thing for Alaric is true, stay tuned for casting on that front.
