Ooh, good question! The only other character I can think of is Lilia, but he wasn’t as confusing as Malleus: his design threw us off, but the moment Lilia opened his mouth, we figured him out lol

We really very rarely have problems with that, because it’s more about feeling the vibe of a character than anything else.

There you go, another interesting way to make Kalim overblot! I like how it’s still related to him feeling responsibility + despair because of Jamil’s death, it seems like this is the main trigger for Kalim to get an emotional reaction of this magnitude.

Also regarding your recent post (I hope im not overstepping here, please feel free to ignore or tell me to mind my business lol I will not be offended) I wouldn’t worry too much about being seen as rude- i have an auditory processing disorder so I miss people talking to me or need them to repeat themselves all the time and I’ve found that people usually get that it’s not an intentional thing just a mistake if you just let them know you didn’t hear them and are not ignoring them on purpose.

I’ve found headphones are fairly easy to explain and a lot of people like to wear them in public so I’m sure most understand and I doubt anyone thinks youre rude for it (especially seeing as it is a common honest mistake) unless they’re weird about manners or kind of a dick or something in which case I don’t have an answer tbh

If you want it to be more clear that you are listening to music you could try getting some cheap overear headphones as they tend to be more visible though some people find them uncomfortable to wear.

PS re-reading some of your old stuff (the one with asking the jjk characters about a bite mark tattoo) and the reader calling Mahito a biter made me giggle really hard and also I 100% agree that’s something he’d do. Also sweet gods your dialogue is all so in character and widely varied character to character in ways that fit really perfectly and I also like the way you write the reader themself quite a lot and good lord you are so good at this I am impressed every time I re read your work

Animal Well!

My Review: "ANIMAL WELL! well well this game was. so very good. i REALLY enjoyed it like, a LOT it is the game that leaves you hungering for more. It is like, hm. Not Surprisingly Deep but it uses the things in its toolbox so very well. I love a game that makes me Think and Plan and write things down on paper and not be so Overly hard that I can't bring my ideas into fruition. The perfect level of difficulty basically. I don't think I was ever frustrated by a puzzle until the like, VERY ending where I was running around trying to discover the Last Few Secrets. So for JUST PLAYING animal well i have to say it is excellent. Probably the best single player game I have plaeyd this year. the Aesthetics and Vibes are Imacculate, the music isn't STANDOUT but certainly Good Enough to Fit, and the gameplay is all like, mostly pretty Simple with some challenging moments that are mostly optional. A great chillout game that i DO MOSTLY BELIEVE catbrooks would love. I both enjoy the game having Meta Elements and yet Resent Having to Look Anything Up.The post game True Ending or whatever doesn't really, have a Payoff. its just extra Stuff you Can Do but only really via reading a guide quite literally in some cases. Which annoys me. i never like that. SO, the Actual Game? excellent, near flawless, fantastic. the optional Secrets? Not really worth it. I felt smart to figure out the few i did but i simply Dont like looking them up. And thats what i spent the last of the game doing so thats what is fresh on my mind. Animal Well is like a hybrid of Hollow Knight and Tunic, kind of. The Vibe vaguely unsettling atmosphere and sense of discovery of HK (except with 0 NPCs or explainations) and the kind of, secret filled 'oh you can DO THAT?' that Tunic sometimes imparted. I would say really it has taken the best Elements of both of them and made somethign Better than them both. Except it doesnt have Tunic's booklet...... that thing was incredible......" Runner up: Crow Country!

My review: "after the first 4ish hours im really enjoying this! The Setting is VERY good - i'm kind of surprised afaik this like, Exact Idea hasn't been done yet. It kind of hits a very Current gameplay/aesthetic trend - kind of backrooms/analog horror/creepypasta. which is great for me because i LIKE those things when they are well executed.I also like how it very much feels like this is a spin off game where you just ARE in black mesa after half life kicks off lol.

the gameplay itself is good too! It is a Little overwhelming just HOW many recipies there are - i think maybe if they were split between different tables it would be Less 30 recipies at once for sure. but then youd have to MAKE them so probably NOT. its not a real complaint just a fot. i like the gameplay loop where there are Distinct Places to go. it kind of has a rougelite FEEL like it remind me of the feeling i wanted to get from the minecraft mod we played where you raided vaults.

anyway fun so far :)

after MANY more hours and i am kind of led to believe many more Yet - its VERY good. i really enjoy the gameplay loop and i think the resources are Fun and pretty plentiful that you never feel like 'ugh i need to go grind cuttign trees for 5 hours to build a house' which i suppose is because you CANT BUILD a house. there isnt any Base Building which is fine i think? it Works for the game they have made you are in a building you just need to find a good spot in that building to Live.

i like how fully comitted it is to being Weird and SCP Half Life. It MIGHT be just Early Access but i think they could have leaned More into the SCP-ness of it? Idk maybe just the journal is SO bad to try and look at that it makes me not Want to Learn about their Fun Scary Objects! Which is always my favourite part. I was thinking about how its a shame so many of the SCPs are Uninteractable (which might not even Be True could just be we havent got them Yet) but i guess that is potentially endless DLC and Update option so! Thats fun in theory

haigvng played ALL that there is to play (55 hours) i am VEry sd its over! the last zone hydroplant got a LITTLE exhausting. it was just a bit too confusing? and the enemies were HARD! but then i thought secuirty was a Bit Lame and Lacklustre so. cant have it both ways.

It's neither of Crowley's two standard miracle sounds. He does have the ability to do stuff without making noise, like when he blows the paint off Azi's coat in S1, and several other times. This hiss type thing shows up a couple times in S2, along with other whoosh sounds.

I suppose it's possible the hiss is his miracle sound, if you muffle it? It's really too short even for that though, it would have to be just a small sample of the sound. It COULD be that, but idk. Like an echo. There are other places I've though there were echos, but I don't know how one would fit here.

Maybe they're God's miracle sounds? It doesn't seem like the characters can hear them, and they're not on the music tracks, so that would seem to mean they're "extra dimensional" aka for us the audience, just as God was addressing us in S1 but nobody else could hear her.....that we know of. We're God's fellow audience watching all this, so we hear what she's doing, everyone else doesn't. If it's God's, then it would make sense that God would have sounds similar to but different from the angels and demons, hence why God's sound similar to Crowley's but not quite the same. For this to fit, logically there would need to be quasi-chime sounds somewhere too that sound like miracles but aren't quite. Maggie does have that, but my theory is she's a nephilim or has weird effects from being killed last season and doesn't know she's doing miracles; I don't know if there's stray unexplained chimes anywhere.

I would propose it could be Adam messing with reality, but the few times he did anything, there weren't noises, things just happened. Except at the end when the bush dies so he can leave the garden to chase Dog, there is a short chime that isn't the same as other miracle sounds. It does sound angelic, but it's not the same as the other angel sounds, it lacks the boom and isn't the same chime.

I don't hear Azi having a different chime than the other angels. If you listen to the Metatron and Gabriel's, they all sound the same.

Thanks to this post documenting every miracle sound in good omens, I realized upon the latest rewatch that Crowley does a miracle here when he takes off his sunglasses. Has anyone else written about this yet? Does he do a miracle on Jim here that causes the Gabriel channeling of God’s line from Job? If Crowley can miracle Jimbriel into remembering why doesn’t he do it at any other times?? WHAT DOES IT MEAN??

ok sorry this took so long here we go my btr x glee crossover event. post dedicated to kingsley @brobecker feel free to yell at me in a bad or good way after reading this idk. lol. keep in mind im basing this entirely off when i rewatched btr last summer and im only like halfway thru season 1 of glee so.

ok to start i still havent quite figured out how they would exist in this universe. itd be funnier if the band just visited the glee high school for like a week but also not as fun to think abt so for our purposes today, let's say they (the band) all transferred to wmhs at the same time for some reason. the band doesnt exist but they still grew up together and are besties blah blah blah.

objectively gustavo was my favorite to think abt because he just fits in this school perfectly because hes insane. he'd probably be a band teacher or something else related to music but he'd be Best Friends with sue sylvester bc they love tormenting children. him and mr schue have a reluctant working relationship bc sometimes gustavo has to help with glee club for music stuff but don't be fooled -- they absolutely despise each other. i like to think one time schue was sick and gustavo filled in to lead a glee club meeting and it went so bad schue never took a sick day again.

kelly was way harder to pin down bc i feel like she fits the "exhausted assistant" trope way too well to exist in this universe. i think she'd probably be gustavo's TA or something and he'd def make her grade all his students' papers so he doesn't have to do any actual work except "teach." sadly she's the only responsible adult in the entire building but shes still kind of crazy (because who wouldn't be when you have to deal with gustavo rocque 24/7).

james would obviously be the first person in the group to join glee club and he'd probably join within the first week of transferring. at first a bunch of the girls are obsessed with him (bc when you live in the middle of nowhere and someone who looks like That walks in you have to nab him like your life depends on it. speaking as a semi small towner) but then when he joins glee he's obviously pushed to the bottom of the social ladder so no one ever makes a move. he's still a hot topic though wink wink. rachel has a not so subtle crush on him bc he fits her male lead fantasy. james doesn't reciprocate but he also doesn't explicitly turn her down bc he likes the attention. however after a while they do become Best Friends. james admires her passion and drive and can relate to her desire to be a star. he's quick to stick up for her but not afraid to tell her when shes being an ass too lol. back to romance i think he tries to flirt with brittany or maybe even santana (bc obviously) and he gets slushied the next day. it's tragic. kurt shows him how to get the stains out of his clothes. speaking of kurt, when i first tried figuring out who the guys would be friends with, he was the first person to come to mind when i considered james. however, i think they're wayyy too similar to be friends. i kind of see them as caricatures of each other in a way. they still have a mutual respect for each other though. i like to think kurt indirectly helped james come to terms with his sexuality bc kurt's awesome lol (i personally headcanon James Diamond The Character as bisexual bc 1. have you seen him and 2. im bisexual and i like him). also i think james really looks up to mr. schue unfortunately. like he doesn't see him as weird (even though he is) he just sees him as a Fun Teacher. it's the kind of thing he'll look back on a while after he graduates and just be like "....wait what the fuck?" sorry this got long james is just my fave.

kendall is next to join glee club and i think hes recruited the same way finn was. i also think it happened similar to the way he won gustavo's singing competition. he was probably meeting up with james after rehearsal or something and was just fucking around making fun of him (as friends do) and schue was like Hey Kid. Have You Ever Considered Joining Glee? and kendall's like "nah i'm not a singer..." and thankfully schue is past his blackmail stage but he still desperately wants kendall in the club so he enlists james to convince him. antics ensue but he joins eventually. he immediately clicks with finn bc they're both jock types with a heart of gold and even though btr doesn't exist, they're still able to bond over being quasi-leaders of their respective friend groups. speaking of which, kendall is way too nice for this school it's tragic. of course he's not against a good practical joke but he's also not against getting into fights if it's necessary and so even before he joined the club the glee kids would hang around him like ducklings in order to avoid getting slushied. kendall's also the only one who would see through schue's antics.....if glee were a mockumentary he would be looking straight into the camera in every scene. he'll also go toe to toe with sue if the need arises. he's like the cheerio's union representative basically.

after kendall joins logan and carlos quickly follow suit. carlos is more hesitant to join than logan is but it still doesn't take that much more convincing. idk why, but i feel like logan would join the school newspaper but quits after 2 weeks bc the editor (the guy sue blackmailed into running the quinn pregnancy story) is an asshole. logan gets an entire episode's subplot dedicated to him staging a coup and becoming the new editor. they perform a song from newsies at the end of the ep. its emotional. its tearjerking. im weeping just imagining it. i think he'd be good friends with artie, just because they're both kinda nerdy? they're super similar but they don't clash like kurt and james would.

i think carlos' life would be pretty similar to his life in btr. i think he'd go after pretty much every girl in glee club but nothing would come from it. out of the 4 of them, he's the least serious about glee. he's just there to have fun. he tries out for the football team since he's a jock and i doubt wmhs has a hockey team. he gets in but quits soon after because he hates everyone on the team. i feel like he's on friendly terms with most of the people in the club but doesn't really connect with them like he connects with james, kendall, and logan.

I don't know if it's fair to say that Grey's doesn't deserve SAL songs.. they use lots of songs from lots of people and they don't always fit, but like they're not trying to make a fan vid of their characters and sometimes they just like supporting artists and they know millions of ppl watch so the artists get more exposure. Ppl don't need to understand music deeply to appreciate or want to share it, but everyone has their own opinions, sry im rambling. (also i thought they used "touch" well")

like, first off you’re right. everyone has their own opinions which is fine....but maybe i can explain a little? please don’t get me wrong, I’m all for SAL getting played on TV and getting heard. I just would love to see SAL songs showcased better than I think Grey’s does.

I confess I’m not really a fan of the show and when I said GA doesn’t “deserve” SAL I was being unfairly prejudiced. To me GA is nothing more than a soap opera like General Hospital. And I’ve never liked medical dramas like ER or House, so... I will admit I’m biased. Sorry. Although, I have the right to not like Grey’s Anatomy, I’m sorry if I offended those of you who DO.

But as I think about it, there’s a reason I feel SAL and GA don’t quite mix. And it may be subjective, but here it is. It’s how I feel.

okokok, so i haven’t seen every use of SAL’s songs on Grey’s. And I’ll grant you that I had almost no idea what was going on because I don’t watch the show.... But the ones I have seen... fell a bit flat IMO. They were talking and the words and music didn’t mesh. And in every scene I saw, there was this very metallic sound quality to their voices. Probably the sound of being in a hospital... it’s weird, but sound quality is different in different environments like if there was any dialogue it sounded tinny, and hard. And on top of that there was some really annoying white noise.

I just feel SAL is a bit more difficult... There’s a certain level of artistic/emotional/cinematic quality that makes it hard to match and blend with certain scenes unless it’s timed just right... you have to have a really palpable, emotional scene with a lot of empty space and almost poetic camera work, like with sparse dialogue or even silent acting.... And I did feel like Grey’s didn’t quite do justice to the songs. Some better than others...

BUT Actually, you know what... it’s not just SAL. It’s background music in general... I’ve noticed some TV shows (ahem, Teen Wolf for instance) are really really GOOD at blending and integrating songs into the background. It fades in and out and you know it’s there because it’s highlighting the scene... but it feels like it just BELONGS in the scene. 

Designated Survivor threw in a song at the end of episode two that just gave me chills and I ran to my laptop to find it after the episode was over. I never watched Flashpoint a day in my life, but I was in the room with my mom reading while an episode was on... and there was a scene where they played THIS song and my jaw dropped and I started crying and looked up the song immediately. Pair a stunning song with a stunning visual and it can be powerful.

Supergirl did a pretty good job using the SAL cover of Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, it was pretty well done.. but even it could have been faded a little better... At least, even if you didn’t like the scene, it fit stylistically. 

But I just watched the “Japril Divorce” scene from 12x11 and it just... It’s hard to explain but it felt wrong. The flow of the song (”Touch”) and the flow of the scene didn’t quite gel. Sadly. There were dramatic pauses that felt too long, and then a voiceover that was read on top of ryan’s, with a meter that clashed with the tempo, then there was a long instrumental break where the voiceover SHOULD have been, but nope. and then it flashes back and they’re talking all over Ryan to the point that it’s just blah noise. Like, I got frustrated because the timing was just uneven and choppy and dragged out. IDK. it might have been mixed a little better...

I know I’m being super nitpicky and this is just me over thinking it... If I liked Grey’s I would probably overlook it. But since I don’t like Greys and I *DO* love SAL I’m more picky.
