I also think Falena might not be all that either. There's an episode in the lion king talking (singing?) about Scar's past and I can clearly see that Mufasa was at fault for what happened (I mean the other lion and Scar's actions were wrong too but Mufasa was kind of like the trigger)
It made me really frustrated with how everyone blames the villains and never the heros. The same thing in the live action of Alice in Wonderland as the white queen was totally responsible for how her sister ended up and yet she even hesitated to apologise to the red queen at the scebe were they were taken to the sisters' past
NAH, OKAY LETS BE FOR REAL. This event I'm hearing about (only hearing about because it's only on the Japanese server right now so maybe everything I hear isn't true now keep that in mind), is making me rethink a lot of things about Leona. Long rant below.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm low-key hyped to finally see Falena (he better have a good amount of melanin, I swear to god), I'm personally hoping he's a bit of a himbo but I realize that probably won't happen. Anyways, I've been hearing a lot of theories from people who are able to play the new event. Here are a few that I really want to believe so I'm choosing to believe until proven wrong:
I saw some people upset that when we finally got a Savanaclaw event, Leona and Jack were in it, but not Ruggie. I thought it was a little strange, until I saw someone suggest this: What if the reason Ruggie didn't come, is because Leona knows that Ruggie probably doesn't like the royal family due to how they rule the country and forget his people, the hyenas? That makes complete and total sense to me. I'll come back to this point in a second.
If you analyze Lion King lore, apparently Scar was often regarded as a weak and sickly lion and was thus not fit for even hunting. So he was kind of seen as useless, no matter how much he tried. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a similar dynamic with Leona being disliked for not being as strong as his elder brother Falena. Which is messed up, because there's more to a person than just physical strengths.
Apparently in the new event, Leona mentions how he wants to use his fourth year at NRC to look into technology that might be used to improve the lives of people in his country. Which speaks VOLUMES. Especially when it's also mentioned that Falena, the current king, thinks the opposite. He thinks people should be focused on connecting with nature again. This brings me back to point one. I think the people Leona wants to help are those most in need, aka the hyenas, but as a second prince never listened to, he has no power to help with this. And maybe that used to torment him a lot and might've been a role in his overblot. Please tell me, is Falena even concerned for the hyenas? I seriously think he doesn't even care for them. In fact, I wouldn't even be surprised if Falena doesn't really approve of Leona and Ruggie's friendship.
As for Alice in Wonderland, I didn't even like the White Queen in the first one. Turns out my dislike towards her was totally valid. Like, if the White Queen had just told the truth the Red Queen would've never gotten that head injury, countless people wouldn't have died, they never would've had that huge conflict and war. You're telling me that after watching her sister get tormented, become kinda crazy, all this due to her mistake, and she never said a word? She never even apologized? Nah, be for real. The White Queen was so wrong for that. I totally get why the Red Queen was angry, because her sister's lie literally ruined her life.

here's a long and non exhaustive list of things i want to see in a totk dlc (big spoilers btw)
i want to learn more about the zonai. people in hyrule spend the entire game trying to learn more about them and in the end when purah sees the temple of time and says "just when i thought i started to figure out the zonai!" there's still sooooooooooo much we don't know about them that i wish we could learn somehow.
ganondorf and the gerudo. in the story we learn that he is the king of the gerudo, he's evil, he wants power and loves darkness. that's all. i want to learn more about who he is in this story, his motives, his relationship with the gerudo, etc. are ALL the gerudo of that time with him? are they all evil? do they leave him once he becomes the demon king? when he gets the secret stone we don't see the gerudo warriors anymore, what happened with them?
KASS. WHERE IS HIM???????????? IS HE OKAY? ARE WE GONNA SEE HIM AGAIN? MY BOY MY DARLING PLEASE COME BACK. i truly can't believe nintendo would leave out such a beloved character without an explanation. even his family is still there. i would've preferred him having a minor role than completely disappearing :(
the connection between ganondorf and calamity ganon. are they related at all? [tangent warning] my guess is that ganondorf/demon king happened first, from there god knows when ganondorf's evil leaked in the form of malice (in botw it's said that he came from the depths of hyrule castle so that checks out) then creating calamity ganon (the one 10000 years prior to botw), which is evil in its purest form, from there he gets sealed away and 10000 years later he comes back and the great calamity happens which destroys hyrule castle and that's what weakens rauru's power therefore gloom spreading more and more and making people sick, and then totk happens. [tangent end]
who's the ancient hero??? okay hear me out here's another tangent: the ancient hero set is a reward after a huge task, so it definitely cannot be only a fan service, right? it is the look of the hero that defeated calamity ganon 10000 years ago. he's obviously not a hylian, at first i thought he might've been a zonai but he doesn't quite look like one? granted, the only zonai we've seen are rauru and mineru, maybe the others looked different, BUT if he's a zonai then calamity ganon must've happened BEFORE ganondorf??? bc by the time ganondorf appears the zonai are pretty much extinct so my theory above would be wrong. BUT if he's not a zonai THEN WHAT IS HE WHO IS HE I WANT TO KNOW! ofc 10000 years is an insane amount of years, that's longer than the entire documented history of humanity, so maybe he's a completely different race that disappeared long ago and hasn't been mentioned yet. if that's the case i wanna know about that too.
naydra, farosh and dinraal. i actually don't think this one's gonna happen lol, but i'd love to know more about them. we know that they represent the triforce and in totk we learn about dragonification. i've seen theories of them being zonai sages who swallowed their secret stones long ago. it would be so much fun to learn if that's the case and why they did that.
what happened to the sheikah technology that was so prevalent in botw? it would make sense that all the guardians in botw just died after ganon is gone. their parts were used for the skyview towers and i saw someone making the argument that they do explode when they die, so that would explain how they were completely erased from the world, although it still baffles me how despite most of the world is still in ruins, there's absolutely no trace of the decayed guardians ANYWHERE not even in the most remote parts of the world. what happened with the towers? they raised from the ground, we see the one in the gerudo canyon came all the way from a chasm which we can now explore. i wish we had more of an explanation of what happened to them.. and as for the divine beasts, it is implied that they've stopped working in the end of botw, but these machines were huge, where are they now? did they bury them again? so many questions that are probably never gonna be answered honestly :/

You know, I actually wonder if, at any point, the bos might've tried to recruit Hector. Or if he's had any run-ins with them during the years on his own, whether bc both he and them were interested in the tech to be scavenged somewhere, bc they found/heard about stuff he had and wanted it for themselves, if he just ran into some randomly, or anything else
Also imagining a patrol finding one of his hideouts and trying to convince him to go work for them, but ends up killing them bc they make it clear they intend to steal all of his stuff whether he agrees or not
Nsdgjds I’m so sorry I didn’t reply to this earlier
You’re absolutely right that some sort of confrontation is extremely likely to happen. I’m still speaking about this in relative terms because I’m not so sure about making a decision about what exactly happened, but I have some ideas at least that we might be able to build up on.
I kinda figure multiple of the things you listed could have happened since there’s a lot of available time. But for the sake of there still being a progression that makes some sense, I’m leaning towards something like this:
The BOS recruiting Hector sometime in the earlier years after the bombs dropped when preservation of technology was a more pressing issue (and more accessible than after 200 years of scavengers). And there’s also the factor of the BOS as a military structure offering aimless people some kind of purpose in life and this false hope of ‘restoring the world to its former glory’. It’d make sense for Hector that this is how he tried to deal with the war and its aftermath, by trying to help ‘fix’ it.
Could be that Wandering Doctor Hector ended up giving treatment to some BOS guys that were having a battle over yonder and they decided he’s good actually, he should work for them. And for the aforementioned reasons that seems like a pretty sweet deal and he joins up (falling right back into the trap of government work, in a sense). Maybe first working as a doctor, but when he demonstrates some in-depth knowledge of technology he gets to change branches and work as a scribe instead. in which we make the science scribe outfit canon 👍
And maybe things were fine for a while, maybe the particular branch he was in wasn’t so bad, he just didn’t know the things going on in the field as a scribe / was in denial about it, or the BOS as a whole was a little more willing to actually help people back then (idk I didn’t check my facts). Or Hector actually believes they’re doing the right thing, having gotten brainwashed a little and being full on in the ol’ Ad Victoriam mindset? Because after all, he’s pretty easy to influence.
Then something happens that gets him disillusioned with the bos’ methods. Maybe something big and dramatic that gets him into trouble, or just quiet realizations that he can’t do this anymore. and in true hector fashion he probably ends up stealing some shit while he takes his leave
That ends the first chapter of his business with the bos and leaves him a bit wary to deal with them from then on (as far as he remembers anyway).
Of course the BOS doesn’t quit or care about leaving people alone, and with Hector being as interested in technology as he is, it’s only a matter of time until their paths cross again. And y’know, why not multiple times? Hector out on a scavenging run after getting some intel about useful technology that he wants, runs into the bos who’s there for the same thing and is forced to back down from his treasure even though he was there first >:((( and another case in which he’s just late and sees guards out front and BOS insignia plastered all over the building he was gonna explore and it’s very >:((
Last but not least, I’m definitely into your idea of Hector having a well-established hideout someplace and having his day ruined by a bos patrol. I imagine that happening a lot later on, maybe it was even the one place he’s lived in for the longest in all his wasteland adventures. Then a patrol shows up, acts all friendly at first but it gets progressively more tense when Hector refuses to budge. Or he pretends to agree, invites some people to come again the next day so he has time to pack his things, but actually uses that time to set up traps and shit to ambush them. Depends a bit on how well armed that first patrol was I guess.
Whatever way it goes exactly, Hector defends his home and the bos suffers some casualties. Except the problem with that is that now the bos has an even better reason to come after him. It’s not just about confiscating important technology anymore, now it’s about getting justice for their fallen brothers and sisters. So……. Home defense failed either way.
Then there’s an option of getting more dramatic and having Hector captured by the bos and escaping later or facing his punishment and he’s okay but he died or some shit who knows. Or a more sensible thing and Hector realizing early enough that him just killing some bos dudes was actually a bad idea and having to leave his home behind after all if he doesn’t want to end up captured or worse. Either way, he is now an Official Criminal according to the bos (if he wasn't already from the first time). Which is bad in terms of Hector having to deal with them but it’s also not like most of the wastelanders care about their crusade, nor would he be on a ‘most wanted’ level or anything. Also, I’m just imagining some scribe trying to make a new entry in the database for Hector to mark him as hostile or whatever, only to find there already is one from wayyy back when. They just figure it’s a mistake but huh that was weird.
Anyway. Hector has to leave [location] to get away from the bos, is like ‘fuck you guys I’m going to the commonwealth’ only for some giant airship to show up after he got settled in don’t know if that works with the timeline but I thought it was funny so here we are
#back on my shit with the lengthy posts#also adds another angle for the conflict between the raiders and the bos#hector already having had a bad experience with them taking his shit#and how he's sitting on some crème de la crème top tier stuff out in nuka world#so naturally he gets extremely defensive over it#lives out his villain dreams when it comes to conflicts with the bos#some scribe is like 'oh shit this overboss dude is actually a wanted criminal from a while back'#but all the others just go 'well duh' he's a raider what do you expect'#hector messerli
