What got you into rainworld?

It's been 2020, middle of autumn, i tired from playing same 3 games on repeat (hollow knight, sundered and undertale (? i'm not sure)) and looked in my steam library, in search for something i haven't played. I had i think 3 games i bought and never played, and Rain World was one of them. I had no fucking clue what is this game, i didn't even remember how i got it (i got it same year spring with 80% off, as my purchase history says). So i downloaded it and jumped right into, without watching any trailers or rewievs.

It was... something. I didn't expect anything, but i was surprised anyway. I had no idea you could pick different character, i didn't know you supposed to play as white slugcat, so i started as Monk.

First thing that surprised me is how HEAVY slugcat felt. Compare to Hollow Kinght where you can jump 10 times your height... yeahh. And second thing - controls, which i changed immediately, because i ain't playing on arrows! ALSO at the beginning i had a thought for a moment that maybe i'll get some upgrades, but even then i felt like it's not gonna happen

And after that i lost track of time. And when i woke up, it was 5 am and i was in shoreline. Then i was stuck in the first room of subterranean with centipedes killing me all the fucking time and i thought that i can't go back through the gates lol

I also remember miros birds breaking my overseer in meme crypts and how i thought that it was gone forever

Does anyone have some general tips to get through the Artificer campaign?

So y’all I’m getting back into Rainworld and if you know anything about me I like to take the easy route in games, but I’m dying to dig a bit deeper into the game then just the campaigns I found easiest.

I played Monk and liked it, Survivor too, skipped Hunter, played Gourmand, tried Artificer but hated it, played Rivulet, surprisingly loved Spearmaster the most, and got stuck halfway through Saint.

So even though I had 3 campaigns I technically could keep trying at I felt like I just hit a wall. I played a lot of arena rounds and got decent at combat, since my previous playstyle was mostly patience and praying the game is nice to me lol.

So after months I tried to get back into Artificer and omg guys, the wall is very much still there and I can barely make it through a cycle after hours. Does anyone have any general tips for that campaign?

Maybe it’s just more brute force than I’m used to? Ig I usually see YouTubers play like that but is that just because of their familiarity with the game or is that really the way to go with this slugcat? Or should I use the new abilities a lot? I remember Rivulet was very different because of its different movement should I be using the new explosion jump like, all the time? I’m super confused, any guidance is appreciated!

I have an idea for one but I fear it's too bland since I've seen the general idea done and I don't know how to make it interesting enough^^;

I think you should just go for it man. My au started off with me throwing my ideas out there and eventually it caught on and gets build up as people start asking questions that made me expand it more.

Also aus can literally just be anything, could be your interpretation of canon or theres a twist to it. Just have fun

If you feel like your au isnt interesting enough then you should either have 1) character dynamics or 2) a specific gimmick. So maybe ask yourself what is YOUR interpretation of the characters and how would they interact with each other? Is there anything different from canon? Is there any specific event that might change that dynamic? Etc.

My AU's gimmick is Travel puppets. But i also added my own interpretation of characters. Like my UI for example is a bitch and works with poison and my Suns has wings. Just lil things like that can add character to your AU. If youre having trouble with characterization then you should ask yourself what exactly is each characters motivation at the moment. It helps steer their intent and how they act.

Of course this is all imo. Not all AU has to be super deep or anything. These are personally what helps me write the stories in my AU. I hope it helps

Here is a Rainworld Iterator OC originally created from an inside joke between me and my friend (shout-out to @sneakiestbeakiest for her name) , Two Spheres Ascendant!

-Favorite Thing about them

I really like their relationship to the ancients and how it feeds back into her personality. They’re part of 5 iterators themed after the base urges, and being Karma 2 has given them a very interesting place. She was made to study genetics and conduct breeding programs which is actually very important work, but of course being the Karma 2 iterator means she was generally mocked and laughed at as far as iterators go. This means she’s rather anxious and embarrassed about how she’s perceived, and is nervous about opening up to others. It’s also given them a dislike of their puppet’s appearance and clothes, maybe even their puppet in general

-Least Favorite Thing about them

Honestly, I’m not confident in their design. I feel like it doesn’t fit her personality even if it’s the kind of thing I imagine the ancients would’ve dressed her in. I also think her face doesn’t quite fit her personality and I was thinking maybe her cloak should be closer to a traditional iterator cloak

I have a lot of hcs about Moon I’d like to explore in an ask blog I hopefully open soon >> especially her relationship with ancients, her group and five pebbles in particular hoopefully. She’s a really mild person, because of the way she carries herself, but has a lot to her character. At least I like to hc her that way!

She does feel responsibility over Pebbles, but I doubt she ever blames herself for the situation which they ended up in. I also doubt the responsibility felt forced to her!

Or well I at least enjoy the hc that she loves thinking herself as a big sister! She likes to dote on people and help out when she can. Though her approach does end up being one where she holds your hand a lot (not for proud iterators oops!!!!)

proto gets along with CB and Bubbles a lot better than with Flora, since cb and bubbles actually follow their orders and plans, even before theyre promoted to captain. flora obeys them even less after theyre promoted, for the record

this is very obviously because theyre traumatised child soldiers who were conditioned by both the octarian military and the metro where you explode if you dont follow instructions, but proto manages to delude themselves into thinking it's bc the twins respect their leadership

the twins completely stop obeying them after splatoon 3. granted, they leave the NSS after splat3, but by that point flora and bola have managed to get them out of the "you gotta obey authority figures Or Else" mentality

also because uh. the twins got the rest of their mem cakes back LMAO they remember what proto and the squid sisters set in motion and are NOT happy. theyd be willing to forgive if they had apologised rather than hiding it and hoping the twins wouldnt find out but they didnt sooooo

bola HATES proto so goddamn much. theyve met in person maybe thrice. the first time was when octo expansion had just finished and the way proto was talking to these kids bola's age like they were soldiers rubbed them the wrong way. the second time, proto came across bola while they were stealing something and called the cops on them. the third time was when they came back from alterna and visited flora in the hospital. bola had to be physically restrained to stop them trying to bite out protos jugular. they got one good sucker-punch in at least

Pluto's "Lil' Buddy" is a Horrorboros called Leviathan's Flight over Verdant Pastures (she/her), or levi for short

(idk if that salmonid name makes sense, salmonid naming and rainworld iterator naming have blended together in my mind and i cannot separate them)

theyre actually older than proto! proto is 24 in splat3 and pluto is 27. proto doesnt know this because i think it should be a recurring character flaw that proto just randomly assumes people's ages and doesnt ask ever.

pluto straight up doesn't care about the NSS or proto's commands. they came down into the crater to scavenge, attacked octavio cause they wanted to tear apart and sell his mech, and is basically motivated by the same "i want the treasure" mindset as Deep Cut

unlike deep cut, they have a horrorboros as a partner. they dont fight deep cut so much as they launch booyah bombs until they yield

it's splatlands culture to fight people, shows that you respect them enough to consider them a threat, but also asserts that you're stronger than them and could kick their ass

they are Very offended when the NSS just start USING the treasure that THEY earned, especially when it gets so damaged by the fuzzy ooze that it's basically unsaleable. theres a dramatic moment of proto being like "why the hell are you mad we literally got this to save gramps" and pluto being like "WE??? kid you didnt do shit and i dont care about your grandpa. fuck off and let me do my thing"

the fight with grizz is VERY fast. if smallfry gets that big, what do you think happens to a horrorboros? the moon is permanently coated in salmonid-ink in a suspiciously booyah bomb shaped pattern. they take all the most valuable bits of the rocket to sell and dont even go back down to alterna

as far as they're concerned, they were never a member of the NSS, never wanted to be, and owe nothing to these presumptious assholes. theyve got better things to do than argue with some spoiled inkopolis kids

in this version of canon, deep cut respect pluto and levi (the ones who showed respect by fighting them for the treasure) over the NSS (the ones who stole the treasure for their own purposes without fighting or even issuing a challenge), so they decide that pluto and levi are their bosses instead

oh yeah i need actual context for pluto and levi not just redescribing the splat3 campaign

theyre both rogues, deliberately unaffiliated with any groups (shoals? schools?) of salmonids or any particular inkfish city. they were raised together with salmonids but levi didnt see any particular honour or value in getting killed and eaten so pluto suggested running away together

they make a living by scavenging in the splatlands and selling to people on the outskirts of splatsville which, in this canon, is a hell of a lot more chaotic than in-game

deep cut also have a lot more actual authority than "the idol group who announces the map changes" in this canon, which pluto is not above using to get them and levi unrestricted access in and out of the city. having minions has some benefits, they guess

Okay so I'm starting to sketch out plan out the possible five pebbles cosplay and what I'll need for it.

The design takes ALOT of liberties but I'm still going to include alot of stuff that makes it the rainworld style.

I'm fairly certain the reason their design is so simple in the game is because the whole ascension thing and being beyond earthly desires but this is my design and I get to go crazy with it

It's still maybe but I'll talk it over with my parents and some friends and see if I can and should do it.

If this ends up becoming too ambitious it's completely fine because I'll just go as the batter.

Hello mutuals following me for dst (gives you all of the rain world lore) *also rainworld downpour spoilers ig* whoops accidentally made a third dst au (the other two being the main one and the triumphant one)

so anyways in rain world there is a slug cat called artificer and artificer is red with a scar on one eye that prevents it from opening. and they can make bombs and stuff. More importantly though is that they had two kids. and lost both of them. so, they go on a murderous rampage to wipe out the species of creatures (called scavengers) that killed their kids and other stuff.

Therefore *puts Jack in artificer's role... sort of...* oh and the antimatter bomb is just a random thing I found in sandbox mode and played with. no clue where or what it is in the actual game.

Maxwell gets antimattered. Very sad.

Also the kids are all slugpups. I love slugpups so much they're so smol. hope nothing bad happens to them. (I haven't decided if Abigail technically gets to live. When the slugcats die in rain world, they wake up in a shelter each time (canonically) so the same thing should happen to her and Wendy? But also maybe she dies in the constant and becomes a ghost pup there. Hmmmmmmm I don’t think any of my favs are all that “unpopular” . Maybe Enot Rainworld, who, when I first got into the fandom, a majority seemed to portray as an incel or just hated them straight up . After spreading around my Enot propaganda they seem to be more popular now (i take FULL credit even if i actually had nothing to do with it.)

Why people should like them more?

Enot is actually more complex than the stupid flirty guy ppl tend to portray them as, notably being socially anxious and very silly :3 in one route getting so embarrassed by something not even that bad that they freak out and run away, they also sympathize with spear and are there for them when they’re upset. The key thing is that enot is both 1. Stupid. Dumb as hell. 2. A player character, meaning you can make them not do these routes

They have comedically bad luck (relatable) with most routes ending up with them dying (and their campaign itself sucking so bad)

I hate that this fandom bullied and drove off so many talented artists... not just pan or emily , to the point some artists are now unwilling to create or share rain world art anymore because of how some people act like that artist is their property and they should keep creating it even if they no longer enjoy or want to deal with it anymore

yeah... like I'll probably still post stuff regardless when I feel like it, but that's just me.

it's completely understandable to just, not want to risk it, which is annoying since rainworld is wonderful, and still has alot of untouched potential.

trying to treat artists like they must be a paragon of grace and never mess up. aswell as making stuff up about them at the same time leads to alot of people just not wanting to touch a community for fear of the while very vocal, very small part of it.

getting harassed sucks. it's never fun, and the risk of it is enough to silence alot of people.

I hope no one reading this expects artists to continue posting no matter how they're feeling.

really from what it seems like this is just a problem in every art community, just ever, I don't think this has ever changed and there'll always be people who think they are entitled to your work.

follow any artists you like elsewhere, even if they aren't posting stuff you are currently interested in, who knows, you might find something new that you love. and even if you do you'll still enjoy their art. maybe even commission 'em if you have the money and they are open to being commissioned.
