I'm seeing a massive increase of people saying George is trying to distract from the point but this is exactly right. George is not just a workplace snitch scrambling for something to say to make himself right, he's a practiced representative, and while, admittedly this is not this best work, the only way to make your point in this case WOULD BE to point out a frequent pattern in behavior to show that this isn't a new concept.
"George's arguments have nothing to do with what happened. "
I fear you just do not think critically.
The reason why George is bringing up possible past incidents is because he is talking about patterns. Patterns form from a repeated behaviour, a repeated action.
When George is bringing up possible past events it is because of pattern recognition.
He is not going off track, he is deliberately bringing them up to show a pattern where Max has not only driven dangerously and gone unpunished but also reminding people of instances where he has said similar comments to what he apparently told Max.
George is bringing up the past to show that this is not a one-off behavior but rather part of a series of behaviors that Max has exhibited multiple times when he was angry.
George isn't going off topic or picking wildly different scenerarios, he is using them to make his point.
