NBA 2020s: the USA vs World Era
Tumblr media
In nba 2k the past two games they named 2010-14 the Lebron Era and the Steph era being apparently from 2017 to Iā€™m guessing 2019?
There been some talk about the division and timeframe like would it not all be Lebron era for example or why specifically 3-5 years and so on like I would just say 15-19 to make it even with Lebron or just call it Lebron vs Curry era
But I want to discuss the current era of 2020-24 and potentially onwards
I want to call it the USA vs the World Era
Tumblr media
Championships
Unlike the past decade the 2020s have had no repeat champions so canā€™t say a team dominated like Lebron Heat or Superteam Warriors
Itā€™s been a different team each year and not in the 2010 way where every year has either Lebron or Steph in it
Something I noticed is that the main player of each team has been alternating between a U.S. player and a foreign player
2020: Lebron & AD (US)
2021: Giannis (World)
2022: Stephen (US)
2023: Jokic (World)
2024: Tatum & Brown (US)
So itā€™s been back and forth this decade so far and while we donā€™t know 2025 and on at this time if an era is 5 years like 2K did then this is a good frame to go off of
Foreign player dominance
Tumblr media
Players such as Jokic Giannis and Embiid if you count him as foreign have won the past 5 MVP awards showing to at least a lot they have been the best players in the NBA
Not even counting Luka Doncic, Shai, and even Wemby now
And there has been a talking point about foreign players both positive and negative because of their dominance recently
To the point where the negative can be seen as xenophobic
Which has created a sort of USA players vs foreign player debate
Rivalryā€™s
Tumblr media
While in a sense team rivalryā€™s are dead in the nba theyā€™re are some player rivalries that make it a point touching on
Doncic vs Booker (Suns vs Mavs)
Doncic vs Kawhi/PG (Mavs vs Clippers)
Lakers vs Nuggets (Lebron vs Jokic) (I know those fans might deny it but they played three times in the playoffs in 5 years two of them in the conference finals and both teams are definitely trying harder against each other than others)
Bucks vs Heat (Heat with Butler has been one of those teams that stop the Giannis Bucks or at least give him trouble and theyā€™re matchups in the post season has been consistent)
All these have a world player against a U.S. player
Thereā€™s other rivalries like Celtics vs Heat but these I feel are consistent and fit the theme in the past 5 years
Plus itā€™s a still a US dominated (in number of players) league so just lower odds for other rivalries with foreign players
Olympics
Tumblr media
This isnā€™t technically the NBA but a big thing that occurred was the Olympics and is a good ā€œfinaleā€ for this 5 year era
Not even discussing the ā€œWorld Championsā€ / best in the world topic brought up by Noah Lyles
It was questioned if they could win Gold due to how much better a lot of countries have gotten and it was definitely tested in the 2024 Olympics
This while putting a pin in the U.S. vs World debate for Olympics since USA won, does bring up that when Lebron Steph & Durant retire the scales seemingly heavily tip in the worlds favor in some eyes going forward as it took 3 top 15 players ever to squeeze out those wins against the other top teams like Serbia and France
Plus other talking points like Tatum the recent nba champion barely playing, is Anthony Edwards ready to take over, and so on
Miscļæ¼
Until 2022 the rising star game was USA vs World
Thereā€™s been a want for that to return and be applied to the main All Star game
More foreign players coming over to the NBA now more than before including top draft picks
NBA being more global by having games in Africa and other places in the world
If you include 2019 the champions were the Toronto raptors which is the only non US team in the NBA so while not led by a foreign player it is the ā€œforeignā€ team and continues the back and forth pattern
All these make the aspect that narratively itā€™s been USA vs World players believable to me
I do think if a team like the Celtics repeat as champions it could skew some points here but overall at just these five years I prefer this than just calling it the Jokic Era because he has three mvps

im under instructions to spam u with doncic related asks,,, so as someone who genuinely only knows abt doncic due to like one (1) doncic/heiskanen fic,,, can i have a primer on doncic or a link to one? he is v tall and i am 4'10" so there is an Appeal šŸ‘€
did u come here from emma jdkfjs
i wrote a lot more than i meant to, so iā€™m putting it under the cut. if youā€™re seeing this on mobile iā€™m sorry idk if read mores work on mobile anymore tumblr is wack
tl;dr
Tumblr media
luka is v tall. if you came from emma youā€™ve probably seen the pic of luka and miro with each otherā€™s jerseys, but thereā€™s a video. and also this article. lukaā€™s like 6ā€™7ā€. miroā€™s in his skates. ( also imagine if dallas had both the nba roy and calder trophy winner, but miro wasnā€™t even a finalist and b*nnington was, haha yes iā€™m still bitter )
ok so
first things first iā€™m not a hundo percent knowledgable on basketball. what i know about it is v elementary. but either way here is this draft profile on reddit my cousin sent me way back when. and there are actually SO MANY video essays/analysis on his basketball on youtube. hereā€™s one. hereā€™s another one. hereā€™s one from last season. thereā€™s also thisĀ docu on the euroleague channel
basically:
at 13 signed with real madrid and moved to spain. pro debut at 16 ( like me n him are the same age. yā€™know what i was doing at 16? almost failing my driving test n crying abt it ) won euroleague finals with real madrid in 2018 and named euroleague mvp.
at eurobasket 2017, he played for slovenia and won gold
at the 2018 nba draft he was selected third overall by the atlanta hawks and was traded to the dallas mavericks in exchange for trae young and a 2019 first round pick.
he won nba rookie of the year for the 2018-19 season.
he recently passed jason kiddā€™s record for the most triple-doubles in mavs franchise with 22 and has already accomplished so much
luka is just!! itā€™s so much fun watching him play. even my old roommateā€”who knows nothing about sports, had probably never watched a sport in her lifeā€”would be excited to watch games. he has fun out there. heā€™s v passionate. sometimes one might even say a little ā€œā€œā€œintenseā€ā€ā€. like you can tell when heā€™s frustrated, heā€™s ripped his jersey twice out of frustration. (Ā the last time he did it they were wearing the city jerseysĀ so likeā€¦. i donā€™t blame him jfkdjf )
he speaks four languages. FOUR. slovenian, serbian, spanish, and english. hereā€™s luka doing a postgame in slovenian. hereā€™s luka ( and kristaps! ) doing media for the mexico city games. hereā€™s luka speaking to the crowd before the mexico city game.
some other videos you should check out just because:
name that tune: dirk & luka
this 3 pointer to force ot
luka micā€™d up at 2019 rising stars
luka micā€™d up against the pelicans
sounds from the baseline: 2020 all-star weekend
lukaā€™s half court shot in the 2020 rising stars challenge
straight to the cup: luka, maxi & boban
nikola jokic jokes with luka doncic at all-star weekend
highlights vs. denver nuggets ( jalenā€™s reaction at 0:46? same )
luka falling on a kid and then check if heā€™s okay
2019-20 highlights
ALSO DOGS. if you like dogs, luka and his gf have two and they are the cutest!! here is their instagram. the pomeranian is named hugo and gia is the white swiss shepherd and they are adorable.
so yeah, stan luka. stan the mavs.
ok edit: bc joce wants me to talk abt his tattoos ( joce i swear me and emma did talk abt it ) hereā€™s luka getting his eurobasket tattoo. he has ā€œnon desistas/non exierisā€ a number ā€œ7ā€ and a tiger on the inside of his forearm. on the other side he has an eagle and the eye of providence. he has a tat on his back/shoulder but i canā€™t tell what it is

Kristaps Porzingis - izjave u okviru inicijative #NBATogetherLiveĀ
Letonski koÅ”arkaÅ” Kristaps Porzingis, saigrač naÅ”eg Bobana Marjanovića i Luke Dončića u Dallas Mavericsima,Ā  juče je uživo odgovarao na pitanja u okviru kampanje #NBATogetherLive.
Ispod je transkript celokupnog razgovora u kome Kristaps priča o danima u izolaciji, interesovanjima van koŔarke, o Dirku Novickom i sadaŔnjim saigračima, o domovini, a uputio je i i snažnu poruku ohrabrenja NBA fanovima u Španiji (slike u prilogu: NBAE/Getty).
Kristaps Porzingis Quotes
On what heā€™s been up to while in quarantine ...
Porzingis: ā€œI try to do what I can. I have a little room with a lot of the stuff that I use to stay in shape. ... I have a little weight room here, a bike and stuff so I can do some cardio and I do a little bit of boxing, I try to work on my boxing skills, too. ... We donā€™t know when weā€™re going to restart everything so Iā€™m just making sure I do the max I can to stay in shape and stay ready.ā€
On some hobbies heā€™s trying to pick up with all the extra time ...
Porzingis: ā€œIā€™m trying to build up the patience to read. Thatā€™s been something that Iā€™ve had trouble with, but I think Iā€™m getting better [at] reading books. I love boxing, Iā€™ve always been a big fan of boxing and martial arts, so Iā€™m keeping myself entertained and doing a little bit of that myself here at home. Just little things that I like and Iā€™m a YouTube guy, so Iā€™m on YouTube just watching videos and learning new stuff. Like I said, just trying to keep myself busy.ā€
On his love of boxing and mixed martial arts ...
Porzingis: ā€œIā€™ve always been a big fan of Mike Tyson. ... Also now with the MMA scene growing and Conor McGregor making it a mainstream sport, I also became a big fan of MMA and thatā€™s something I would also love to work on a lot in the offseason once Iā€™m not playing. So, weā€™ll see. I donā€™t know when, but Iā€™ve always been interested in combat sports.ā€
On what profession he would have pursued if not basketball ...
Porzingis: ā€œThereā€™s a lot of things that Iā€™m interested in, itā€™s just I donā€™t know if I have the talent or capability of doing that. As I said, boxing, MMA, I probably wouldnā€™t be a great fighter. But thatā€™s something if I was a different body type or whatever, I probably wouldā€™ve loved to do. Outside of sports, Iā€™m really interested in business and entrepreneurship. Thatā€™s something I probably wouldā€™ve studied much deeper.ā€
On what the Mavsā€™ trainers have done for the team in quarantine ...
Porzingis: ā€œThey made a plan for us. We have an app that we can go on and we can have the workouts there and we donā€™t really have to do anything, we can just follow the workout and do our work and they made it really simple for us. Iā€™m just doing what Iā€™m supposed to.ā€
On if the team is keeping in touch ...
Porzingis: ā€œWe have the group chat going on. We pretty much text each other daily. Everybodyā€™s bored. ... I think weā€™re going to have a group call tonight as a team also. Iā€™m sure that will help us keep our spirits up.ā€
On being teammates with Dirk Nowitzki last season ...
Porzingis: ā€œJust his presence in the locker room and around the team. Everybody loves him. Just to see his energy and see his passion still and motivation at that age, at that point of his career, still putting in the work before practice, it was pretty crazy to see, actually. That just shows what type of person he is, what type of work ethic he had throughout his career. It definitely gave me more motivation, more hunger to keep working and to try to emulate things heā€™s done in his career to be such a great player.ā€
On the situation in Spainā€¦
Porzingis: ā€œItā€™s a tough situation, and I donā€™t understand a lot about whatā€™s going on. But what I can say is itā€™s important for people to just follow the guidelines. Whatever people that understand this whole situation are telling you to do, thatā€™s what we should all do, and I think thatā€™s going to help us beat this situation or get past this situation as fast as possible. For the people of Spain, stay strong and make sure you do the right thing.ā€
On the Mavericksā€™ reaction to the news of the NBAā€™s suspension during their game vs. the Nuggets ...
Porzingis: ā€œWe all were kind of in shock. At that point, I didnā€™t realize the magnitude of this whole situation. It was kind of a shock.ā€
On Mark Cuban leading the charge in helping those impacted by COVID-19 ...
Porzingis: ā€œWe have a great leader in Mark whoā€™s pushing all of this, whoā€™s making sure people around us are taken care of. Thatā€™s what he does and I think thatā€™s why the city of Dallas loves him so much. And Iā€™m sure weā€™ll keep doing good stuff for the people around the organization and in the city.ā€
On how things are in his native country of Latvia ...
Porzingis: ā€œThe situation in Latvia is good. Iā€™m making sure daily that mom and dad are good and just away from people and make sure they stay safe. We stay in touch every day. I miss my family, miss my parents. Hopefully, I get to see them soon.ā€
On what heā€™s most excited to get back to when things are back to normal ...
Porzingis: ā€œProbably just playing at home, playing in front of our fans again and having fun out there. I feel like me and Luka were really getting in a good rhythm playing with each other right before this whole thing happened and hopefully, we can get back to that as soon as possible.ā€

NBA Playoffs 2022: Schedule and predictions for Eastern and Western Conference Finals
Tumblr media
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports
Hereā€™s our picks for the conference finals.
The conference finals are set for the 2022 NBA Playoffs. In the East, the top-seeded Miami Heat will take on the No. 2 seed Boston Celtics. In the West, the No. 3 seed Golden State Warriors will face the No. 4 seed Dallas Mavericks. The winners of each series will meet in the 2022 NBA Finals.
The Celtics are the hottest team in the NBA right now. Boston was sitting in ninth-place in the Eastern Conference on Feb. 1 before closing the regular season on a tear behind the leagueā€™s No. 1 defense. After beating Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets in round one, the Celtics took out the reigning champion Milwaukee Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo in round two in a thrilling seven-game series. The Heat never needed a late season surge. Miami has been near or at the top of the East all season, and theyā€™re back in the conference finals only two years after reaching the NBA Finals in the bubble in 2020. Many of the main characters in Miami remain, with Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and head coach Erik Spoelstra still squarely in the spotlight. The Heat punched their ticket to the conference finals after outlasting Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks in round one and a talented Philadelphia 76ers team in round two. Miami also finished in the top five in defensive rating this year, but their offense ā€” which finished No. 12 ā€” has occasionally ran into problems scoring in the halfcourt.
The Golden State Warriors failed to make the playoffs last season, but theyā€™ve been one of the leagueā€™s best teams since the start of the season this year. Stephen Curry and Draymond Green remain franchise pillars, and Klay Thompson is finally back from injury after missing two straight seasons. The new Warriors sensation is 22-year-old guard Jordan Poole, who gives Golden State a necessary injection of speed, creation, and shooting. The Warriors beat an injured Denver Nuggets team in round one before beating the Memphis Grizzlies in six games in round two. Meanwhile, the Mavs are the most surprising team still left standing. Dallas just knocked off a Phoenix Suns team that won a league-high 64 games in the regular season to punch its ticket to the conference finals. Luka Doncic feels like the best player remaining in the playoffs, and Dallas has done a great job getting wing defenders, playmakers, and shooters since last season. Head coach Jason Kidd deserves significant credit for creating the game plan that limited Chris Paul, Devin Booker, and the rest of the Phoenixā€™s attack.
Hereā€™s the schedule for the conference finals, followed by a prediction below.
Boston Celtics vs. Miami Heat schedule, start times, TV info, and more
Game 1: Celtics @ Heat, Tuesday, May 17, 8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
Game 2: Celtics @ Heat, Thursday, May 19, 8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
Game 3: Heat @ Celtics, Saturday, May 21, 8:30 p.m. ET, ABC
Game 4: Heat @ Celtics, Monday, May 23, 8:30 p.m. ET, ABC
*Game 5: Celtics @ Heat, Wednesday, May 25, 8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
*Game 6: Heat @ Celtics, Friday, May 27, 8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
*Game 7: Celtics @ Heat, Sunday, May 29, 8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
*Games 5-7 if necessary
Golden State Warriors vs. Dallas Mavericks schedule, TV times, and more
Game 1: Mavericks @ Warriors, Wednesday, May 18, 9:00 p.m. ET, TNT Game 2: Mavericks @ Warriors, Friday, May 20, 9:00 p.m. ET, TNT Game 3: Warriors @ Mavericks, Sunday, May 22, 9:00 p.m. ET, TNT Game 4: Warriors @ Mavericks, Tuesday, May 24, 9:00 p.m. ET, TNT *Game 5: Mavericks @ Warriors, Thursday, May 26, 9:00 p.m. ET, TNT *Game 6: Warriors @ Mavericks, Saturday, May 28, 9:00 p.m. ET, TNT *Game 7: Mavericks @ Warriors, Monday, May 30, 9:00 p.m. ET, TNT
*Games 5-7 if necessary
Boston Celtics vs. Miami Heat NBA Playoffs prediction for 2022 Eastern Conference Finals
Celtics in 6: The big question going into this series is if Miami can score against Bostonā€™s set defense. It seems unlikely. Boston is equipped to guard the Heat in the halfcourt with almost no weak defenders in the rotation. On the other end, it feels like Boston has enough spacing to stretch out the Heat defense and let Tatum go to work against a Heat defense with more weak spots. Miami star Jimmy Butler will put together a Herculean effort, but Boston just feels like the more complete team.
Golden State Warriors vs. Dallas Mavericks NBA Playoffs prediction for 2022 Western Conference Finals
Mavs in 6: This is an upset pick, but Dallasā€™ series win against the Suns was just that convincing. For all of Curryā€™s greatness, Doncic feels like the more overwhelming star right now. Dallas has two great wing defenders who can shoot in Dorian Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock, two extra creators in Jalen Bruson and Spencer Dinwiddie, and a head coach in Jason Kidd who pushed all the right buttons against a more talented Phoenix team. It will be fascinating to see if the Mavsā€™ ability to wear down Chris Paul can translate to Curry. Ultimately, it feels like Dallas is well equipped for the Warriorsā€™ perimeter stars while Golden State doesnā€™t have a natural matchup for Doncic.

NBA Play-In Review
After a long season and play-in tournament, we are finally able to see the first round playoff matchups. The play-in featured many goods games, including a few upsets. The first round of play-in games saw the Timberwolves beat the Clippers in a comeback victory and the Nets defeating the Cavaliers pretty steadily. The next two games featured the Hornets and Hawks and the Pelicans and Spurs. The Hawks destroyed the Hornets by more than 30 and the Pelicans survived the upset in a close game. The Hawks moved on to face the Cavs in the next round and the Pelicans moved on the face the Clippers.Ā
In the second round of the play-in tournament, the Hawks won a close game against the Cavs and the Pelicans defeated the Clippers as the Hawks and Pelicans advance to the playoffs. On Saturday, the playoffs begin, with 4 games being played. The Jazz and Mavericks started the action as the jazz defeated the Mavs by a score of 99-93 and take a 1-0 series lead. The next two games were the Grizzles and the Timberwolves and the 76ers vs the Raptors. The Timberwolves pulled off the game 1 upset and now lead 1-0 and the 76ers dismantled the Raptors to also go up 1-0. The last game of the day was the Warriors and the Nuggets. The Annual Premature NBA Regular Season Tiers and Predictions
The NBA season is finally here! With the season slated to tip off today, Iā€™ve made my predictions for the season that surely will end up being wrong but who cares. Also, Iā€™ve made tiers of how I view each team and where they are as they start their quest for the Larry Oā€™Brien trophy. Here they are! Enjoy
NBA Tiers
The Imperial: Warriors/Celtics/Rockets/Raptors/Sixers
The Warriors are on a tier of themselves beyond this list. Everyone else can push them and potentially capitalize on an unfortunate injury we hope doesnā€™t happen.
The Sleepers: Jazz/Pacers/Lakers/Bucks/Nuggets
All fairly young teams who can leap up to the next tier hinging on young players (Donovan Mitchell/Myles Turner/Brandon Ingram/Giannis Antetokounmpo/Jamal Murray and Gary Harris) taking leaps in their games.
The Mercurial: Thunder/TWolves/Wiz/Pels/Spurs
Teams with a foggy outlook. Russell Westbrook is already injured and Andre Roberson will be out an extra couple of months. The Timberwolves hate each other more than any team it seems, though the Wizards will give them a run for their money. Spurs already are down 3 guards and no Dejounte Murray lowers their ceiling. Can Pelicans sustain last yearā€™s success without Rajon Rondo and Boogie Cousins?
The Middle: Mavs/Grizz/Blazers/Pistons/Heat
Teams with little upside were they to make the playoffs. Blazers are the best team of the bunch but can they improve from last yearā€™s sweep by New Orleans? Mavs and Grizz would love just to make the playoffs. Heat and Pistons probably should make it in an underwhelming Eastern conference.
The Outcasts: Hornets/Nets/Magic/Clippers/Cavs
Teams not quite good enough to make the playoffs or bad enough to tank. Magic will find a way to land a top 10 pick like they always do. Cavs should tank with a top 10 protected pick, but likely wonā€™t. Hornets and Clippers could make the playoffs if things broke their way. Nets finally have their own pick, but will be sneaky competitive.
The Tankers: Knicks/Bulls/Kings/Suns/Hawks
#BrittleforLittle. #CryOnforZion. #ScamforCam. #NoPlayforRJ. (These tank nicknames still need to be workshopped)
