My thoughts while watching…
Young Royals, Season 2
It was EVERYTHING
I don’t think you understand how much i adored this season. I think I liked this one more than the last season two be honest. But maybe that’s because i lowkey thrive on drama.
First things first:
My lil’ Crowned Prince?! best character this season. i love him so much The pure chaos wille brought this season was GOLD.
they had my boy leaning against fences and looking out at the sunset with a sad song playing in his ears like he was the female protagonist of a 2000s romcom.
they had my man scheming and orchestrating august’s downfall like a young swedish doofenshmirtz. (as he fucking should, but we’ll get to his pasty behind in a minute)
they had my dude jumping on a desk renouncing his claim to the throne because he saw ex singing karaoke with someone on insta.
they had my baby point a RIFLE at his cousin to defend his man’s honor like a champ.
Ok ok but in all seriousness, the emotional range from wilhelm this season was staggering. watching him navigate his rocky relationship all while having quite literally the weight of the country on his shoulders was a lot. shoutout to edvin for that performance.
I have surprisingly little to say about Simon, other than the fact that his voice is angelic and makes me cry and he deserves to be protected at all costs.
Now August….
*sigh*
You have to understand, I try my best to give characters the benefit of the doubt. We’re all human, we all make mistakes. But I’ve truly had it trying to quell my intense dislike of this dude. At first I went between hatred and pity, but the minute they named him Wilhelm’s successor I KNEW there was no going back. This man is a selfish and self centered prick who cares more about himself and what others think about him then he does the people around him. And I’m tired of trying to like his bitch ass, cause it’s just not gonna happen at this point.
And while we’re on that note, let me break a couple bubbles here:
For any August/Sara shippers out there… the only reason you like them together is because they are both attractive people.
Name one reason they work together… I’ll wait.
Their relationship was built on August outing her brother and Wilhelm’s relationship. So it’s already flawed to begin with. Add on top of that the fact that they both could use a lesson in a little something we like to call “loyalty”. i think it would benefit them greatly seeing as they both were too quick to betray family for personal gratification. but hey 🤷🏾♀️ maybe that’s just me.
Other hot takes:
Alexander is stupid af. the hell is wrong with that kid. this herd mentality thing that he’s got going on is not it. he needs to start thinking for himself if he wants to get anywhere in life. when they said he got back in, i thought we were gonna see some type of evil storyline with him… nope, he’s just an idiot.
Felice was absolute perfection, as usual. she did nothing wrong and i love her. i wish we got more of her, tbh. In fact, that entire friend group is the cutest thing, we love it alllll. (and i saw that lil bestie in love with bestie thing they had going on 👀👀)
Marcus is boring. I forgot his name, so i had to look him up… he was too sweet, to the point where he made me uncomfortable. Although that scene with him and simon and the fish tank had me screaming laughing. This just goes to show that I can’t do the sweet nice boring white guy thing anymore, netflix, do something different.
Ok this is getting long. these are just something’s i had to get out the minute i finished watching the series.
8.5/10, could round up or down depending how i’m feeling later - it needed to be longer. six episodes is not enough time

Winter time- Marcus Rashford Imagine
Family was the most important thing in the world to Marcus. So when he found out that you were pregnant with your first child, despite him only being 21 and you only 20, he was over the moon. He was even happier again at 23 when you have your second and 25 when you had your third. Nothing brought him more joy than his children.
“Come on boys we are going now” Marcus shouted up the stairs to his two boys who he was still waiting on, to take to the park, with his wife and daughter. “Boys we will leave without-” “We are coming daddy” you’re oldest boy giggles out as he bum shuffles down the stairs.
Your oldest boy Xander was the sweetest 5 year old you had ever met. He had a heart of gold. He loved to help out his mum and dad. He often got quite jealous of his siblings and was a real mummas boy. Xander loved nothing more than when you would send his siblings to nana’s for the night and it was just Marcus, you and him.

“Ethan no pushing” You told your second eldest off as he shoved Xander out the way of the shoe rack. “Kind hands or no park trips for anyone” It had snowed the night before so the whole family were going for a winter walk. Ethan was particularly excited. It didn’t snow last year so now he was 3, it was his first time properly playing in the snow.
Ethan was quite often a naughty toddler. He was still learning boundaries and the right vs the wrong things to do. Despite being a bit cheeky he was such a big softy. He went from playing rough with his brother to cuddling with his baby sister in seconds. He never failed to make you smile.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a778fa4ebc3a6081b89bbdef0e104e64/15b560d29814146c-29/s540x810/df1db8c185de5941bdd4a84eddb8f92bfdc632d0.jpg)
“Daddy! laces!” Ethan demanded. “What do we say when we want something Ethan?” “Pwease” he replied, not entirely mastering pronunciation of the word yet. You pushed the pram with your babygirl Isla in it, out of the front door. She was completely silent despite the circus happening around her.
Isla was now 6 months. Marcus knew how badly you wanted a daughter. He always said that he would have 20 boys with you if it meant you got your girl. Luckily it only took 2, you didn’t think your body could handle 20. Isla was a quiet baby. She loved to just watch what was going on around her. She would happily watch you do washing for hours or the boys colour in all day. A peaceful girl. Its what you deserved after the boys. You still love them all the same though.

“Hold daddy’s hands when we cross the road okay boys?” You heard mumbles of agreement coming from both boys who were kicking the snow off the ground and laughing hysterically.
Marcus only just grabbed Ethan by his hood and pulled him back as he forgets to stop at the pavement edge. “Ethan you have to stop with your toes on the grey bit or you’ll be flat as a pancake” Xander explains to his. Ethan looks at you and you nod wide eyed in agreement. He shifts his eyes to his dad and stretches his tiny hand to reach his before shuffling his toes to the edge and checking he was the same as his brother.
Once at the park you check the boys still have hats, gloves and scarfs, and let them go play. They desperately wanted to build a snowman so you might aswell let them. You find a bench and place the rug over it so you and Marcus don’t get wet bums. Isla was getting fussy so you decide to get her out.
“What wrong with my babygirl?hmmm whats got you grouchy?” Marcus coos at her. You hold her up sitting her on the bench table as she rests her feet on your knees. Isla lets out an “ahhh” as she holds her arms out for you. You pull her into chest then lean yourself against Marcus’s chest.
Once Isla wasn’t fussy and Marcus had made her laugh again, you put her back in her pram and let her watch the world go by. You cuddled into your husband as you watched your boys run about building a little snowman.
“You not freezing babe, where are your gloves and hat?” Marcus quizzed you. “Gave my gloves to Xander and hat to Ethan. We didn’t have enough winter stuff for them yet.” Marcus tuts and pulls off his beanie, pulling it right down over your face making you laugh. He pulls it up enough so only your mouth is on show and you can only see a tiny bit through the fabric. He places a long kiss on your lips in which you return. “Sorry I saw the boys were coming back and i had to save the last free moment with you” You giggled at how dramatic he was being a turned around to see your boys complaining they were cold and tired.
Quickly they explained about how the snowman was for izzy (isla) as “she can’t play right yet so we made one for her” Xander explained making you want to cry at his thoughtfulness. “I’m sure Isla appreciates that Xan.” You reply grabbing his hand to walk home. Your excited to post the pictures of today as you know you got some beauties.

With Isla and Ethan down for their nap, it was time for some Mummy and daddy time. Your youngest had passed out in her bassinet beside where you sat with Marcus. Ethan had passed out on the fluffy rug in the middle of the room, both of you too worried if you move him he’ll wake. And Xander had disappeared to his room and not been down in 30 minutes so you assumed he fell asleep too. Playing in the snow is tough work.
You and Marcus snuggled on the couch, a box of chocolate infront of you that you were trying to convince Marcus he was allowed one of despite his strict diet. “hello” a soft call came from the living room door. “hello gorgeous” You reply to your oldest already knowing exactly what he wants. “Can I have a cuddle?” he says rubbing his eyes with his blanket. You smirked up at Marcus who budged up so Xander could lie on you.
“Daddy” “Yes Xander?” “want to cuddle with you not mummy.” Marcus looked at you in shock. Xander had always been a mummas boy who would do anything for a cuddle alone with his mum. “O...okay buddy c’mere.” Marcus shuffled so that Xander could be on one side with you snuggled under his arm on the other.
“Daddy” “Yes Xander?” The conversation repeats. “I’m glad your home, mummy gives good cuddles but I missed your cuddles” He mumbled out as he started to fall asleep snuggling into his dads chest. “I missed being home too buddy, me too” He said in a low voice, kissing his sons head and bringing his blanket up to cover his shoulders.
Marcus turns his head to you, “I promise I’ll spend more days like this, will make sure Ole gives us less meetings on training days or some-” “Marcus babe, it’s okay just enjoy the moment.”

Ten Songs Playlist Tag
Like both @notanotherhour and @deadlyessencewhispers, (I was tagged by both of you, thank you) I don’t have a specific playlist for any of my WIPs, but I do have a playlist for when I am writing. Thus, a lot of my scenes and characters are influenced by these songs. So here we go. I’m restraining myself just to The Others Book #1, because #2 could get...odd.
Adding a “keep reading” CUZ FAM THIS GOT LONG.
Tagging @qchromanite, @undinisms, @mellow-stories, @ruins-of-gold, @silas-fenderson, and anyone else who wants to!
1. Ariana Grande-God is a woman
I'll tell you all the things you should know So, baby, take my hand, save your soul We can make it last, take it slow, hmm And I can tell that you know I know how I want it But you different from the rest And boy, if you confess, you might get blessed See if you deserve what comes next I'm tellin' you the way I like it, how I want it
I think we all know that this is Bane, Caleb and Divinity. Those kinky little shits worship the ground she walks in. She is as close to god as they can believe in.
2. Lorde-Magnets
Never really felt bad about it As we drank deep from a lie Cause I felt melting magnets babe The second I saw you through half-shut eyes
Okay this is a spoiler I’ve never given, only hinted at with Divinity’s last names, but...Nathaniel Gray and Divinity. Just sayin’ fam.
3. Lindsey Stirling & Peter Hollens-Skyrim
There are no lyrics, well not in English or that I could spell, but it’s just a really good action and battle song. I listened to it and others when I wrote the final boss battle between Marcus’ army and Divinity’s army.
4. Two Steps From Hell-Victory
Omg yay so this is another lyricless song but again it is SO. FUCKING. GOOD. ORGASM FOR THY EARS. I listened to this too, while writing the final battle.
5. Ellie Goulding & Kygo-First Time (R3hab Remix)
We were lovers on a wild ride Speeding for the finish line Come until the end of our time, yeah Started off as a wildfire Burning down the bridges to our empire Our love was something they could admire, yeah
.........Fuck I’m not even gonna go there. I’m not going to cry over my own characters. Suffice to say, there’s a certain pairing this makes me think of.
6. Selena Gomez-Wolves
Your fingertips trace my skin To places I have never been Blindly I am following Break down these walls and come on in
I wanna feel the way that we did that summer night Drunk on a feeling, alone with the stars in the sky
Same couple as before.....whom shall remain unmentioned. I’M SORRY.
7. Evanescence-Lies
Honestly, the whole song is just pure Darkling. But I choose these lyrics, even though the whole thing is just...perfection. And dark as fuck.
You will never be strong enough You will never be good enough You were never conceived in love You will not rise above They'll never see I'll never be I'll struggle on and on to feed this hunger Burning deep inside of me
8. Xandria-Nightfall
Here it comes, the story of mankind´s final glory Into the nightfall The showdown now has come, this will be the last curtain Before the Night falls We are rising higher, closer to the fire Let the final dance begin
This fits Book #2 a bit better but I listened to a lot of Xandria through all my WIPs so... Another Marcus vs. Divinity song.
9. Danny Lohner-Death Dealer’s Descent (from the Underworld soundtrack)
No words, but a badass song. Always helps me write those boss-protagonist-strutting-into-battle scenes.
10. Halsey-Hold Me Down
I sold my soul to a three-piece And he told me I was holy He's got me down on both knees But it's the devil that's tryna Hold me down, hold me down Sneaking out the back door, make no sound Knock me out, knock me out Saying that I want more, this is what I live for
Well that ended on a dark note... probably a Divinity song just because...well, Divinity backstory.

Chapter 3
We're not lovers We're just strangers With the same damn hunger To be touched, to be loved To feel anything at all I miss the mornings with you laying in my bed I miss the memories replaying in my head I miss the thought of a forever, you and me
Halsey - Strangers
@pathybo @beautifulramblingbrains @tigpooh67 @jojuarez26 @iammarylastar @lets-play-truth-or-dare @deepfrz @carefultheyspit @feminamortem @mom2reesie @kellieabro @lauraaan182 @you-wont-let-me-let-you-go @beltz2016 @frecklefaceb @tomarisela
I was woken up way too early and I opened my eyes, immediately hit with a terrible headache, eyes red and completely exhausted, not having gotten much sleep to begin with, the sun hadn’t even risen yet. I felt like a zombie.
Natalie had come into the room, shaking us awake one by one, waiting in the hallway while we got up. Almost falling out of my bed, I rubbed the sleep from my eyes only being able to guess how I looked like. What I would have given for a hot shower, a mirror, a little make-up to hide the bags beneath my eyes and Eri–
No, don´t even go there.
Looking up through burning eyes I found Susan staring at my nightgown and following her line of sight, I realized that the once white gown was almost completely stained with green and brown on the bottom, making it obvious that I had been outside last night. I just hoped there was something to hide the bite marks on my neck with – and suddenly I was thankful for the high-rising neckline of my dress.
Giving her a tight smile, I shrugged my shoulders.
“Couldn’t sleep…”
Reciprocating, Susan´s expression was soft as she tightened the stocks on her legs before slipping into her shoes, her appearance immaculate while I struggled to get the dress over my head.
“I thought I heard something last night. I´m sure it be easier this night. We have a long day in front of us.”
Scrunching up my face, I ran a hand through my hair mourning the lost strands. Watching how Susan did her bun with ease, I tried to mirror her movements but mine was way too lose, falling apart instantly. After two more tries, I gave up, looking over to her in despair, holding out a hair clip. "Can you help me, please?"
“Of course.” Hurrying over, Susan gently took the clip and twisted my hair up with one turn of her wrist, pinning it tightly to my head so it wouldn’t be in the way later.
“Thank you.” I gave her a tired but genuine smile that she returned and after I tied up my shoes we followed the other two out of the room, this time punctual.
Natalie waited in front of the door, immediately leading us into the foyer where the boys already stood, ready to face the day.
The first thing we did was preparing breakfast for ourselves which even I managed. It was a tasteless mush consisting of oatmeal and milk, cooked until it was grey and resembled baby food more than actual food. Forcing it down my throat, I suppressed every thought of muffins, scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausages, knowing it would only further my frustration. There was almost no conversation on our table and for once I didn’t care, too tired to fully keep my eyes nonetheless actively participating.
Not without coffee.
I was only shoving the food from side to side with my spoon when Marcus arrived, freshly shaven as he told us to get up and follow him. Doing as we were told we first had to do the dishes before each of us received the clothes they had taken from us last night, tightly bundled up and held together with cord. Leading us outside we were met by the first rays of sunshine and I closed my eyes, for a moment just reveling feeling the warmth on my skin –
Until Marcus´ voice disrupted the tranquility of the scene.
“What you have in hands,” he started, hands folded in front of him, a content smile on his face. “is your old life. Instead of burning and throwing it away, which would be a waste, you will gift it to a person of your choice, choosing to let go of the life you are used – is it dependent of our faction, or another – you are a part of us now, adults, honorable members of our society. And we expect that you behave as such.” His dark blue eyes flitting over us, stopping at me a moment longer before addressing us all again.
“Once you have completed initiation, visiting day marking the end of the four weeks, you, that are from here, can return home to share dinner with your parents as equals, not having to wait until you are allowed to speak. Those who come from different factions will have the opportunity to show their families around – if they should come.”
Hearing that the children here weren’t allowed to speak up, I furrowed my brows, asking myself why anyone would want their children to be quiet but when he mentioned visiting day, my heart fell. There was no way even a single member of my family would come to see me, to see the embarrassment, the shunned human I had become.
Lost in thought, I didn’t realize Marcus had stopped speaking and led them away, rooted to my spot, gnawing my cheek. Looking up, I saw that they were already several feet away and I hurried after them, the bundle tucked safely under my arm.
Falling into step with Susan, who shot me a questioning look, I gave her a smile and waved it off.
Maybe, Abnegation wouldn’t be so bad as long as I had one friend by my side.
It took us only fifteen minutes to arrive at the factionless shelter where abnegation gave out food, clothing and sometimes medicine. It was only logical that they would stay so close to their only food source, only starting to become a threat when the stronger ones thought they deserved more than they received. I had seen it, accompanying my brother on patrols frequently. I just prayed he wasn’t there this time.
The shelter was like I remembered it, mostly woman and elderly, the odd kid that was condemned to live this way without having a chance to redemption all because of its parent’s fault. The whole warehouse was full of scrap, old tables and metal wires, lots of blankets building tents and separating segments from each other.
I know, for the ones that had to search through assembly points like this it was pure hell. The fluttering clothes hiding potential dangers and movements, every piece of metal could be used as a weapon and if you didn’t pay attention or when you´re caught off guard you could shot a child instead of the attacker you assumed hid behind the next wall.
It had happened before and it will happen again.
Additionally to our old clothes, we had been given a small package consisting of food I was sure was tastier than the stuff we got this morning and I asked myself if they really deserved it after all the stories I´d been told. Then I remembered that my whole life would be devoted to helping them from now on and I forced every one of those tales, every prejudice against factionless to the back of my head, locking them in tightly.
Strolling the rows of factionless, still weary, I had not the slightest idea who I should give the stuff in my hands or how to even approach them until I came across a girl close to my age and statue, her black hair skillfully braided but her clothes tattered.
But the way she held herself as she sat cross-legged, fiddling with a piece of metal in her hand reminded me so much of dauntless that I deemed her worthy of wearing their colors.
Approaching her carefully, I waited until she looked up with a questioning expression until I handed her the items expecting her to rip them out of my hands.
But she merely raised one eyebrow, slowly stretching her hand out to take them from me, her face betraying nothing as she stared at the black fabric.
“I thought they would fit you. The boots are new so they should last for some time or you can trade them for… whatever.”
She stayed silent and I was already preparing to leave, angry at myself for giving the last things that reminded me of home to someone so ungrateful when she did speak.
“A dauntless transferring to abnegation. How the hell did that happen?”
“That´s none of you fucking business.” Turning back to her, I smiled sickly sweet, the audacity making my blood boil. But instead of getting up, ready to fight me the girl just started smirking, her face promising nothing but mischief.
“Couldn’t be because you´re meek, that much´s clear.” She winked at me but a movement from behind me had all traces of amusement vanish from her face, going back to the stony way it was before. A person stepped up to us, his hawk-like eyes narrowing in at the bundle on the girl's lap, his lips curling up into a smile that looked wrong seeing on his face.
“I see, you understand what it means to give, Casey. But we don´t swear, never. Do you understand?”
“Of course, Marcus. I´m sorry.” Bowing my head, I avoided his gaze, the frustration inside me running high because he seemed to always be there when I was making a mistake. He tutted once at me before bowing his head to the girl, walking away without a glance back. I watched his back disappear further down the hall, stopping beside one of the boys who was giving an apple to a little boy.
Until she spoke, I´ve had no idea that the girl was doing the same, her face contorted into a sneer as she watched him patronizingly lecture the other initiate, too.
“Be careful of that one.” Her voice was quiet, but commanding, laced with something akin to distrust. “He´s not all he seems. Behind that posh exterior of his, he doesn’t hide a pile of gold.”
“Believe me,” I assured her, watching the smile on Marcus' face crumble the second he thought no one was watching him. “I know.”
After we had helped giving food to the factionless that had been brought by other members, we went back to the headquarters to prepare our meal – steamed vegetables, chicken and mashed potatoes once again – this time diverting into two groups: the first would cook, the second do the dishes.
Following Susan´s lead, we were the ones responsible for the vegetables and cutting the carrot into tiny pieces, even the knife felt wrong in my hand, the kitchen void of any small talk like it was usual with the dauntless cooks where their knives doubled as ones to throw at the head of the person you had a misunderstanding with. I can´t count how many of them Eri– the leaders had to punish because of it.
It had always been fun to watch full-grown man shrink a size when one of them approached, suddenly not able to hurt a fly.
Those cowards.
After we ate, we were ushered outside again without a break, claiming that personal time was wasteful and therefore selfish and before I knew what was going on I had already been ordered to help an elderly lady clean her house, a mop in hand.
Seeing me stare at the thing as if it was a torture device, she started laughing slightly and grabbed it from my hand, showing me step by step what to do.
With a few mishaps, I managed to get the whole house cleaned just in time for dinner, the nice lady who I got to know as Mrs. Miller secretly placing a piece of candy in my pocket, claiming with a wink that we deserved a treat sometimes too.
Her little act of kindness made my whole day and I didn’t even ask Susan why she behaved strange at dinner, fidgeting around while avoiding my eyes, dismissing it as exhaustion after the long day we had.
But when I arrived at the dorms as the last one, having used the bathroom while Susan had excused herself ten minutes prior, claiming she had something important to do, I realized why she had behaved so strange.
Marcus Eaten was standing inside our dorm, his hand tightly closed around a white piece of fabric, Susan behind him, eyes lowered to the floor, hands fidgeting. She looked guilty.
The other two were standing beside their beds, both too not daring to look up as Marcus turned towards me.
Watching the whole scene in confusion, it took me a moment to figure out what was happening, the scene too close to the ones at home shortly before someone was punished. That was until Marcus held out his hand, scrutinizing me with narrowed eyes while I tried to understand what he wanted with the cloth and I realized with a sinking stomach that it was the nightgown I had worn yesterday, the strains on the once snow-white fabric a stark contrast.
He knew. He fucking knew.
“Come with me.”
I was sitting in an uncomfortable chair in Marcus´ office facing the desk he was behind watching me with folded hands while I stared at the floor, his intense gaze on my skin making me uncomfortable. We had been here for over ten minutes without one word coming out of his mouth since he commanded me to follow him and I obeyed not without shooting Susan a dirty look, knowing exactly where she had been when she had claimed to have something important to do that couldn’t wait.
I was familiar with this tactic of intimidation, Eric used it all the time, just like my mother who had me sweating in fright every time she pulled this act even when I wasn’t aware I had done something wrong.
But with the man in front of me, it was something different.
He was an unknown force, I had no idea if I was here so he could simply lecture me if I would be punished… or worse. Scraping away on the remaining polish on my nails, I tried to think of anything else but the man in front of me, like how I was disgusting myself acting all meek when all I wanted to tell him that it was none of his damn business.
Of course, I didn’t.
Marcus cleared his throat and my head whipped up, for the first time since coming into this room meeting his eyes.
“There were reports of an incident last night. Have you heard anything about them?”
“No, Sir. I was too busy today to make much conversation.” I replied respectfully and honestly. I had heard nothing, abnegation wasn’t exactly known for gossip.
“Well, then let me enlighten you,” Marcus spoke patronizingly, but his voice held a sharp edge indicating that he was less than pleased. “last night around one am one of our members thought to hear noises around the perimeter. He said he was afraid factionless were trying to break into the supply building, but all he spotted was a member of dauntless. I think we both know why he was here.” I turned my head away until the movement of his hand had me look back towards him, where he placed the once white nightgown on the desk.
“This explains enough. But what I would like to know from you, Casey, is why he was here and why you thought it would be a good idea to leave the dorms after curfew and with a man nonetheless.”
“He just wanted to say goodbye.” Was all I muttered, staring at my feet slowly blinking. Just thinking about last night and the way I send him away physically hurt – but speaking it out loud was sheer agony.
“I didn’t understand you. Speak up.” Imagining to detect a small undertone of glee in his voice, almost undetectable, I gripped the fabric of my skirt in my fist to restrain myself, eyes hard as I looked back up at him.
"He just wanted to say goodbye. I send him away." My voice was sharp when I began but at the end, it almost cracked, the image of running away from him after he proposed in a way that was just so Eric… I wanted nothing more than to curl back up in my bed and cry – and almost never cried.
“Right.” Marcus raised one eyebrow, clearly not believing me. Aligning the sheets of paper on his desk until they were in a neat stack, his voice was reprimanding as he spoke after a few moments, his unnervingly blue eyes making me feel vulnerable – as if I was nude in front of him. “One thing you have to know, Casey. We don´t take lightly to adultery.”
Silence, then…
“Adultery?” I exclaimed unbelievingly sure I had misunderstood him. There was no way in hell… “How…. What?!... I´m not even married!”
"And if you won´t stop these escapes you may never be." The audacity. Fueled by rage I jumped up, the chair almost topping over by the sheer force of my movements. Right now, I didn’t give a fuck where I was or who he was.
Still, I held back. I dauntless his jaw would already be broken, shattered in at least three places. No one fucked with me like that.
“With all respect, Sir,” I spat, voice shaking with the force of my anger, the form of address just mocking the title he would never deserve in my eyes. “I don´t think my love life is supposed to be any of your interest.”
"Well, if your lack thereof isn't proven you may be right. Because then, unfortunately, you will no longer be a part of our initiation.”
I froze, his words making my whole body run cold. Factionless was worse than death, definitely worse than this and I suddenly realized that the bastard in front of me had all right and all the power to throw me out right now, just for my outburst alone not to mention the act of intercourse he hopefully knew nothing about. But looking at him, I realized he at least had a strong presumption as to what had happened last night.
I let out a shaky breath.
“If you calmed down enough, you may sit down again so we can discuss your options.” Marcus stayed calm, his expression not once betraying what he thought of my performance and I only nodded, silently taking my seat, the white-hot rage diminished by the ice running through my veins.
“Thank you.”
Too afraid to blurt out what I really wanted to tell him in the most elaborate version, I kept my mouth shut, waiting for Marcus to go on and he did, all business as he pulled out a record, flattening on the desk in front of him. Folding his hands, he watched me over the rim of his fingers.
“I understand that you may still have problems fitting in here but acting on impulses will only get you in more trouble than you´re already in.” I bit my cheek until I tasted blood, refraining myself from telling him that he had no idea what he was talking about. “And because you´re new and showed today that you are a reliable force, I will overlook this unfortunate incident for once. But –” Raising his eyebrows at me, he interrupted my relieved exhale and I tensed again, the expectant expression on his voice promising nothing good.
“you will still serve your punishment – even though I would consider it more of a chance for you to get used to the humble life we´re living here.” He gave me a smile. “ You know how much of a busy man I am, so I along with other members decided it would be good for me to have an… assistant of sort, if you want to call it that. And that´s where you come into play." Marcus watched me expectantly and even though it sounded like an offer, in reality, it was a command.
I gulped, sensing where this was heading and continued gnawing on my raw cheek. The prospect of working with Marcus for the whole four weeks of initiation – and maybe even after – were nauseating… but wasn’t that my chance?
Wasn’t this exactly why I was here, to get closer to him, win his trust?
If, then I had just come my goal a lot closer – and with that my freedom.
An anxious feeling grew in my guts, working under the leader of the government meant I had to attend meetings with leaders from all factions but it was basically the perfect opportunity for me so I swallowed down my inhibitions, looking him into the eyes.
“What would I have to do?”
“Well,” Leaning back in his chair, Marcus folded his hands in front of his stomach. “ for the last four years, since the person that run the household… resigned, there has been a number of members who helped clean and brought meals whenever I ate at home. That would be your field of duty but since I need someone here and occasionally for notes in meetings, too, you would also accompany to those.”
"So I would basically cater to your every whim?" I slipped with my words without noticing but when I tried paddling backward, he just chuckled.
“I´m a man who is easily satisfied, Casey, which you will soon know.” My skin started to crawl, the sentence too suggestive for my liking. Not noticing my disgust, Marcus sat up straight again, laying his hands on the desk.
“Of course, Sir.” I gave him a tight, insincere smile, slowly getting off my chair since I had the feeling that this ‘meeting’ had come to an end. “Is that all.”
“I think so.” He replied, already absorbed in the report lying on his desk, not sparing me another glance. Nodding to myself, I awkwardly turned around ready to flee the room. But Marcus seemed to have changed his mind and I froze on my spot, turning around with a questioning look.
“Casey, one last thing: I can´t trust you not to leave through the window again, even though you surely learned from your mistakes you won´t be staying in the dorms for the duration of those four weeks.” He reminded me of the principle who always liked to call me into his office, expressing his displeasure towards my actions, sitting in front of the sturdy desk like that, not fully giving me his attention but expecting mine.
“And where am I supposed to go?” I asked alarmed, ice running through my veins, afraid he had changed his mind and let me fail initiation after just one day. I´m sure that would be some sort of record.
The patronizing smile on his face didn’t help to relieve my unease.
“Since we will be working closely together and I have two free rooms in my house you will stay in one of those. That way it will be easier for me to keep an eye on you.” For a second, my world stopped spinning as I stared at him, unbelieving until it started turning again, faster and faster until I had the feeling I was losing my footing, slipping right of the edge, just floating in space, being drowned by moonlight.
“Won´t that be unseemly for me to live with you alone, Sir?” My voice was slightly hysterical even though I tried my best not to show any emotions. It was one thing to work closely with Marcus Eaton but living with him? No, no fucking way.
Eric was an excellent judge of character, he hated the leader of our government and I trusted him, trusted the only man I ever loved.
But seeing the serious expression he wore, the warning for me to keep myself in line I knew there was no way out of this hell.
Maybe never.
"I´m one of the most highly regarded members of this faction and I sadly have too much to do to take care of my household on my own," Marcus spoke, his voice coolly and tolerating no dissent. “You living with me will be a win-win situation for us both Casey. I will show you how to master the act of selflessness and you provide me with your assistance in whatever I may need. You will see, many would be honored to be in your position.
You have ten minutes to get your clothes, then we will leave together.
Hurry,” He said without glancing up from his paper. “letting others wait for you is selfish.”
By the time, I arrived at the dorm, I was furious, fuming, but I was also aware of the fact that one more transgression would mean Marcus would throw me out into the streets. Maybe the girl from earlier would give me back my clothes even though it was not likely. Once they had something in their hands they would let go only over their dead body.
Throwing the door open, I marched into the room ignoring the two´s shocked faces and Susan who jumped off her bed, her face contorted into worry I knew now was fake. She took a hesitant step forward, wringing her hands violently as she looked up at me with her doe eyes. Shooting her a glare, I walked right past not even bothering to acknowledge her existence. But she obviously didn’t get the memo that I wanted nothing to do with her, walking after me.
“Casey, listen, I – “ Whirling around, I took two quick steps towards her getting right into her face. My eyes were blazing with fire and she flinched back obviously afraid. Good.
“Let me tell you something, Susan.” I spat, dragging my gaze over her, disgusted. “That innocence act doesn’t work on me. So take your misplaced sense of moral and shove it up your ass. Where I came from, you don´t snitch on people.”
“Casey, I´m really so-”Sneering at her, I turned towards my former bed and grabbed the handful of stuff I had been given, wanting nothing more than to get out of here. But when I turned around she was still in my way, looking all doe – eyed as if she couldn’t hurt a fly. But I knew better.
“Go. To. Hell.” Slamming my shoulder into hers, I left the stifling atmosphere of the room with a few wide strides, sending the two gawking bitches a glare that made the red-head, Grace, fall from her bed with a loud squeal.
Rolling my eyes, I refrained myself from throwing the door shut because it would have been heard throughout the whole headquarters, leaving it wide open instead as I made my way to the front door, (im-)patiently waiting for my tormenter to come lead me into my personal hell.
Obviously, letting people wait wasn’t selfish for our great leader because I had to wait over half an hour until he arrived, walking with Andrew Prior, who I recognized as a man on the council, obviously discussing leader business. They were so engrossed in their topic that they only realized I was standing in their way when they were right in front of me.
“Casey. Good, you´re here.” Marcus exclaimed with a small smile, gesturing for me to follow as they walked out of the building completely disregarding my existence as I trudged after them. Staring at their backs, hands full of clothes, I asked myself if they ignored me because I was an initiate – or because I was female.
Prior seemed to be alright but in the short time, I knew Marcus he got creepier with every minute I spent with him. With men of power, you never knew.
Feeling low, I was sort of happy when we finally arrived at Marcus´ house that resembled a big slab of concrete, like every single house in the abnegation district, and he stepped in first, turning on the light to expose a minimalistic furnished hallway leading towards the living room. He gave me a short tour of the downstairs, only consisting of the living room, a kitchen and dining room, everything held in grey. Even the holding cells in dauntless were more appealing.
Leading me upstairs he showed me the bathroom and with horror, I realized that I would have to share it with him but Marcus was fast to reassure me I wouldn’t see as much of him as I had feared.
“I mostly leave the house between 6.30 and 7 am.” He explained, slowly pushing open the door to the room I was supposed to stay in. “You have to report at the headquarters every day at quarter to eight, so if you get up early enough you can do the chores before breakfast or just after noon. In the mornings, you will mostly assist elderly members or those who need help, while most afternoons will be spent with council meetings and errands I need you to run. If you ever should end up in dauntless, I expect you to behave to our standards.”
I nodded, showing him that I had understood his warning and he went on, pulling a wrist watch out of his pocket.
“You can have this one, your alarm is already set for 7.15.”
Taking it cautiously as if it could bite, I said a small thank you before fastening it on my wrist, having to use the last hole to clasp it shut.
"Have a good night." Nodding once, Marcus left the room and for the first time this day I felt like I could breathe, the solitude refreshing. Whenever I was forced to be around people 24/7 I got so grumpy, even their breathing annoyed me. Changing into my new, clean nightgown, I scrunched up my face, disgusted that I couldn't take a shower tonight. But with Marcus right down the floor, it would have to wait until tomorrow morning when he was gone.
I realized with a start what this meant: that I was more than just lucky.
Not only had I a room all to myself, I was alone in this house almost every day, meaning that I had enough time to search for the evidence Jeanine wanted to eliminate her strongest opponent. But what if he hid them in his office?
The meetings… he surely would have me by his side in the afternoon, filing in reports of some sorts. He´d just have to leave the room for ten minutes max. With that, I could work.
Letting myself fall back onto the bed that was more comfortable than the ones in the dorms, I smiled my first genuine smile since I arrived here, knowing that the goal that seemed so far away was manageable for me, that I could protect my family and everyone dear to me.
The only reason why I made my sacrifice.
For them, for Eric.
Eric… Knowing that I may be able to be back in his arms again sooner than I thought, I allowed my thoughts to drift to last night, the way his muscles had rippled against my bare skin, his hand on my throat, his member inside me… My hand slowly wandered downwards, bunching up the white fabric from my calf up to my tight until my fingers lightly skimmed the waistband of my panties, slipping under the unspectacular fabric, finding what they were searching for.
Slow, light circled turned faster and harder as they mirrored our favorite movements, the images of Eric surging through my head. Him shirtless, sweating after a notorious workout of his, nude, chest glistening with tiny water droplets as he stepped out of the shower, fingering me under the table while my brother was sitting opposite of us, or just the way he growled my name as he released inside me, his whole body rigid in pleasure as I writhed beneath him.
That was all it took and I came, his name just a breathless whisper on my lips, my climax bringing me just a fraction of the pleasure that racked my body yesterday. And still, it was enough.
Curling up into the grey blanket I turned to my side and soon sank into blissful sleep.
Somehow my chapters seem to get shorter each time… but after dropping that bomb on you I think it´s enough.. I also wanted to post another one since it has been three weeks since chapter two..
I´m not expecting that you like where this is going but I still hope you like the story itself :D I´m a little blown away by the response, the first chapter already has over 100 notes on tumblr, so thank you to everyone who liked/ reblogged & reviewed the chapters, it means so much to me! :)

stars moon sun.
Bravenlypso.
Description: AU where Bellamy is in love with Raven Reyes, and then they both fall for a beautiful grounder girl who really likes plants and has a heart of gold. Takes place between season two and season three. ++ FLUFF. FLUFFY FLUFF FLUFF.
Word count: 3,340 WORDS.
The morning sun shone brightly over the blossoming garden of Arkadia, and Calypso was making her way through tall stalks of corn, harvesting them into a hand-woven basket she had borrowed from her mother. Calypso adored this time in the morning, purposefully getting up a little earlier than all her other workers so she could spend some alone time in the sun with the vegetation.
“Calypso, isn’t it?” A deep voice shook her from her own internal monologue, and she turned to look upon a familiar face, Marcus Kane. She knew him as a father figure to Bellamy, and a leader of the sky people. “Or do you prefer Callie?”
“Callie is fine, sir.”
“Oh please, call me Marcus.” He waved off the formal title. “You seem to have gotten much more comfortable with us. I remember when I first met you, you hid behind Bellamy.”
“I didn’t know much about skaikru outside of Bellamy and Raven,” She explained. “I’m sorry if my actions offended you—”
He shook his head, “No, no, not at all. I understood.” He let out a long sigh, running his fingers through the salt and pepper beard on his chin. “I wanted to speak to you about your relationship with the Commander, with Lexa.” Calypso turned away from him, fingers working at the corn stalk to retrieve some of its fruit. “Raven told me it was a sensitive subject,”
She paused her actions, turning her attention back to him. “Lexa made me a warrior. I have respect for her, faith in her.”
“You’d die for her.” Calypso nodded. “Callie, you have to understand…after what happened at Mount Weather, with Lexa abandoning our people—”
“She didn’t abandon your people, she saved her own.” She corrected him. “There’s a difference.” The woman sent down the basket, crossing her arms over her chest. “Marcus, do you intend to ask me if I’m going to be a threat to the safety of your people?” He bowed his head, fingers pressing against his temples. “I love Bellamy, and I love Raven. They love their people. I would never do anything to hurt them.”
“Some people think that because you’re here, and you still have allegiance to trikru and Lexa, that you might be selling secrets. You have access codes, Callie—”
“Access codes you gave me.” She reminded the man, sticking a finger in his chest. “My allegiance lies to Bellamy and Raven. As long as it does, you have nothing to worry about, Marcus.” She lifted her basket again, settling it on her hip. “And not that it’s any of your business, but Bellamy and Raven asked me to move here and I said yes.”
“Don’t get me wrong, Calypso. I am thrilled that you’re making two people who deserve happiness, extremely happy, but I have to think practically.”
Calypso stroked the leaf of the corn stalk, closing her eyes for a moment. “Your people are safe, Marcus.”
“Thank you.” He nodded. “Enjoy the rest of your day, Calypso.” His eyes lifted, glancing behind her with a nod and Calypso turned, suddenly beaming at the sight of Bellamy making his way through the thick rows of corn towards her.
“You and Kane having a chat?” He asked once the older man was far enough away. Calypso nodded. “Everything okay?”
She thought about telling him, but her tongue refused to move to form the words. Bellamy would get angry, he would amount it to Kane questioning the love Calypso had for him. There would be a confrontation. “Everything is fine, mi hodnes.” She pressed her palm to the side of his face, thumb brushing across his cheekbone. “You look well rested.”
“I am, though it was a bit tough sleeping without you. Raven’s so used to it she left a space in the middle for you.” Her hand travelled lower, pushing into his form with her fingers.
“Bellamy, you’re thinning.” She whispered, setting down her basket and lifting up her shirt. Usually, there was a thick pocket of muscle where she now found bone. It didn’t show much in his face, but she had noticed he had gotten a bit leaner.
“We had a bad month, Abby mentioned we were low on rations. I’m not important—it’s better a kid eats than me.”
Calypso pulled him down towards her, her forehead against his. “Mi hodnes, why do you think yourself expendable?” He didn’t answer her. “You still feel guilty for crimes you were forced to commit.”
“No one forced me to kill—”
“The boy that attacked you and Clarke? Yes, you were forced to defend yourself. It was a good kill. An honest kill, Bellamy.” He kept his head down and she kissed the side of it. “Wait for me by the gates, we’re going to my village.”
“I’ll grab a rover.” He offered and Calypso nodded, and then made her way out of the garden, basket in tow.
[ ~ ]
“Blake, where ya headed?”
“Callie’s village,” Bellamy answered Miller, who leaned casually up against the roll cage. “She’s got supplies she wants to hand over to Arkadia.”
“Everything okay between you three? I’ve been seein’ a lot less of her lately.”
“Yeah…she…yeah, we’re workin’ on it.” He sighed. “Things aren’t bad…we’re just stuck.”
“Come home safe, Blake.”
“Yeah, I will. Hey, Nate, I uh…I’m happy you and Bryan are back together.”
Nate paused, but nodded. “Me too.” He took a couple steps towards Bellamy. “You know I’m um, You know I’m always gonna have love for you, Bell. Always. Infinitely. But…I think we’re both…happy—happier, apart.” Bellamy fell silent, running his tongue over his lips. “Those first couple days on the ground…it was fast, and under covers and we fell in love because we were sure we were gonna die.”
“We lived, though, Nate. We lived.”
“Yeah we did. Now we to continue living—and not in that twisted state of panic where I think I’m gonna lose you at any moment.” He gripped Bellamy’s arm, forcing his gaze to his. “I love you, Bellamy. I’ll always know that, that’ll always be my truth, but I don’t deserve the devotion you give me.” He stepped forward, winding his hands into Bellamy’s hair and releasing a tender kiss upon his lips. “Go get your girl, kid, and take care of that spit fire in the metal shop. Be happy.”
“Yeah,” He nodded. Miller left his side and Bellamy climbed into the driver’s seat, heading out to pick up Calypso who was waiting patiently by the door. “Hey,” He greeted her, offering his hand to help pull her into the cab. Once she was secure, he gave her a smile. But, before they could take off again, there was a knock on the door.
“What, you gonna take off without saying goodbye, Blake?” Raven smirked, hoisting herself up on the bar to reach Bellamy’s height. “Hi, baby.” She told Calypso, which brought a deep, peachy blush to the grounder girl’s cheeks. “You headin’ off to Callie’s village?”
“I figured you were busy, but do you wanna come?”
“Well, you know I love to come.” She teased and he shook his head. “But you’re right, I am busy. I’ll see you at home tonight. Both of you, right?”
“Yes, both of us. Though it might be a bit late.” Calypso nodded, which brought a wide smile to Raven’s face. “Ai hod yu in, Raven.”
“Love you too, babe.” She hopped off the rover and offered a wave as they drove through the gates. Calypso reached over and grabbed Bellamy’s hand, holding it in her lap.
They had driven for a few more moments before Calypso squeezed his hand. “Your mind seems elsewhere,”
Bellamy nodded, eyes constantly searching the tree line for activity that could be either helpful or harmful. “I just got a lot on my mind, baby. That’s all.”
“Talk to me about it.” She requested.
He sighed, “When I came down, I came down to protect Octavia and then…she became part of the hundred. I wanted to protect them all, they were my people, y’know?” Callie nodded, “With Clarke being gone I feel like I failed them, failed her. I couldn’t make her stay.”
Her face fell and she turned her head to stare out of the window. “Did you…did you have feelings for her?”
“No, no,” he whispered. “Never, not—we weren’t like that. We’re friends. Terrible friends sometimes, but friends.” He gave a light, sad chuckle. The rover came to a slow stop outside of Callie’s small cabin and she hopped out first.
Staying at Calypso’s was something Bellamy always enjoyed, it brought him peace, brought him joy. Her home was always warm and glowing from the hearth in the center and the minute he crossed the threshold, he belonged to the silence.
“Are you hungry, my love?” Calypso asked, and he gave a shrug, “I’ll make you something.” Piles of some kind of grain and water were dumped into a pot with various vegetables before she went into her smokehouse and pulled some venison from the racks. As the smell began to fill the house, she settled herself in his lap and kissed his forehead. “You are so troubled for such a young head, Bellamy.” She whispered against his hairline, plush lips against his skin. “Eat, sleep, be calm. You deserve moments of peace in the chaos of life.”
“Peace,”
“We all deserve peace. Killers, believers, and warriors. Whether it’s time we take out in our day in life, or waiting until our death, peace finds us all eventually. Either welcome it with open arms or drown in it. Peace is as inevitable as death, Bellamy.”
He stared up at her, and she gazed into twin pools of gold, kissing the space between his dark brows. “What would I do without you?”
“I think you’d be alright, you’d have Raven.” She chuckled. “The question is, what would I do without you, Bellamy?” She brushed the tip of his nose on his. “I’d be lost.” Calypso lifted off his lap and went back to the kitchen to tend to the food.
Bellamy let silence settle between them for a long while, listening to the sound of the birds outside of the home and Callie humming to herself.
He watched her for a bit, and then spoke up: “Hey, Callie?”
“Hm?” She hummed.
“Arkadia is on its way to being settled. The grounders, they’re…cooperating to a point,” She shot him a look and he held out a hand in defense. “I mean, with Lexa and everything…Clarke being gone, we’ve got some tension.” The man explained as he removed some pieces of his guard uniform for more comfort. “But eventually, we’re gonna be okay. Things will be normal.”
“Eventually,” Calypso nodded.
“When things get normal…I was thinking, me, you and Raven, we could…be normal together.”
“What do you mean?”
“New laws are being written, but—Raven and I have talked about it. We were thinking that we’d…we’d wanna be a family,”
Calypso stopped stirring her pot, warm-toned chocolate hues moving to the man seated in the middle of her living space. “What are you saying?”
“Raven and I decided that when things get settled, we’d…we’d wanna get married.”
“Oh.” Disappointment rolled through her, and she hated that it did. “Well, um, Don carrow flaim lanai.” MAY THE FLAME BLESS YOUR UNION.
He noticed the disappointment, and backtracked, standing up and crossing the room towards her. “But that was before…before you, Cal.” He explained. “But if…if I married you, you could legally be protected by our government. You’d be a part of our people.” Her eyes met his, and a smile spread across his cranberry lips.
“Bellamy, are you asking me to marry you?” She said softly. “What about Raven?”
“We’ve discussed this, Callie. Raven knows. She doesn’t know I’m asking you now and she’ll probably be really upset with me that I did it without her—and in the middle of your kitchen—she wanted a big ol’ event.” He chuckled. “But she knows. We came to an agreement.”
“You’re asking me to marry you.” She repeated, and light sparkled in her eyes, tucking a lock of her little braids behind her ear. Then, the light faded. “Did you ask Lincoln?”
“Why would I ask Lincoln?”
“He’d ask the same question but in our culture, since he’s the last living male in my family, you have to get his blessing. The General will never allow the marriage if Lincoln hasn’t given his blessing.”
“Well, shit.” Bellamy sighed.
“Why are you upset, mi hodnes? You know he’ll say yes.”
“No, this is different, Calypso. Lincoln and I are friends, the things he’s done for Octavia I could never repay him for but…I’m marrying his—basically his baby sister. If Lincoln asked to marry Octavia I’d knock his teeth out.”
She grew confused. “But…you’re friends.”
“I’m also her older brother.” He sighed. “Marriage is different.”
Calypso placed a top onto the pot. “I have an idea.”
“And what’s that?”
“We’re taking dinner to Lincoln.”
“What makes you think he’s home?”
“He’s home.” She assured him, “Let’s go. It’ll cook in the leftover heat on the way over.” Bellamy lifted the pot off the stove and loaded it into the back of the rover, tying it down before crossing to the passenger side of the rover where Calypso was patiently waiting to be helped into the vehicle. He smiled and placed his hands on her hips, lifting her up into the cab.
It was a short ride to Lincoln’s home, but still too far to walk. The minute the rover pulled up, he came out of his home with a concerned look on his face. “Heya, brod.” Calypso greeted him. HELLO BROTHER.
“Strik won,” He nodded. “Bellamy, what brings you to my home?”
“Bellamy would like to speak to you about something.” Calypso clarified. “I brought dinner. We’ll eat. Is Octavia nearby?”
“No,” He shook his head. “She’s out hunting for Arkadia, she’ll sleep there tonight.” He smiled, “Please, come in.”
Bellamy went to the back of the cab, taking the pot out and bringing it inside. Calypso and Lincoln’s home were similar, but reflected their various interests. Lincoln’s home was a little more structured, more based on use than aesthetics. Calypso loved decorations, but her tools were simple. Lincoln directed Bellamy to set the pot over the hearth, and he let out a grunt once the heavy item was released from his grip. The guard settled in, watching Lincoln and Callie interact for a moment. They pushed each other, teased and when Lincoln pulled Callie’s hair, she cried out in frustration and smacked his arm. Bellamy chuckled.
“So,” Lincoln announced, turning and leaning against his counter top to face Bellamy. “What’s going on?” He asked, and Calypso shifted on her feet. The action caused him to change his posture. “Callie,” He began, “Laik yu kom goufa?” ARE YOU WITH CHILD?
Immediately, the girl shook her head. “No, no, it’s not—it’s not that.” The question brought up the idea once more, that Callie hadn’t given herself to Bellamy yet. Something tugged at her, and she feared that soon Bellamy would grow tired of her seemingly prudish ways.
“I’d like to uh,” Bellamy cut in. “I’d like to ask you for Calypso’s hand in marriage.”
Lincoln pushed his body off the wall and paced around the room for a moment. “Ste disha chit yu des?” IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT? He asked the petite woman before him. “Kalepso?” Her name in Tridasleng always made her focus. It rang with the accent that her mother, her father and all her family before her possessed. Now, Lincoln’s tone had changed to that of an authoritative father rather than the gentle voice of her older brother. Bellamy looked between them in confusion, the switch in language concerning him.
“Sha,” YES. She answered quietly.
“Will she still be able to come into the village?” Lincoln asked Bellamy. “If she marries you, will she still able to come home?” He demanded.
“Of course. I’ll make sure of it.” Bellamy answered. “I’d never want Callie to lose this place, it’s her home.”
“Have you met Calypso’s mother, Bellamy?”
“I um, I haven’t had the pleasure.”
“I will give you my blessing, but only after she gives you hers. Calypso marrying outside of her people will not go over well, especially considering her mother has had her eye on another boy from our village since the two were young.” He sighed. “If she says no, it’s over.”
Bellamy nodded. “Well, we’ll set up a meeting. Maybe she can come to Arkadia and we can show her how we live.”
Calypso shook her head. “No, she’ll never go to that place.” She cut in, “I’ll bring you to my village, but you need to dress in Trikru clothes.”
“Uh, okay.” Nervousness radiated off Bellamy like heat, and it made her sad to think of how much stress she was putting him under for a happy union.
“Yu laik smil?” ARE YOU ARE HAPPY? Calypso asked the older man before her. Lincoln sighed, then a smile spread across his face.
“Octavia will be angry that I knew before her.” He answered. “But yes, I am happy.” Calypso broke out into a grin and jumped into his arms, pulling him close. “I trust you are in capable hands. Bellamy will give you a good life, and later, happy, strong children.”
“They will be lucky to have an ontu like you, Lincoln.”
“Ontu?” Bellamy asked as Callie made her way towards him, wrapping an arm around his back.
“Uncle,” She translated. “Ontu Linkon.” The girl pressed a kiss to Bellamy’s jawline. “Let us eat. We’ll tell Octavia the good news after my mother gives us her blessing.”
Later, the sun had set. The smell of their dinner had faded and the leftovers placed outside for the wild dogs that lingered around Lincoln’s property. They were calm, having been around Lincoln since they were puppies. Abandoned by their mother. Calypso was in Lincoln’s arms in a hammock, sleeping after her large meal while Bellamy sipped on the grounder version of moonshine with Lincoln in silence.
Then, he broke the quiet. “How much older are you than Callie?” Bellamy asked.
“There were forty moon changes in my life before Calypso was born,” He explained. “Three years, about. I remember when she was born. She was a tough seed in her mother’s belly. Constantly kicking, like she wanted to be born running.” He chuckled, smoothing back Calypso’s hair. “A day after she was born, my mother placed her in my arms and said, you will have no brothers or sisters of your own, so the flame gave you a cousin to treat like your sister. She is very small, but a wise soul.” He sighed. “True words, I’d come to find out. She didn’t grow as fast as the other children, but she always found the best hiding places. She knew where the animals we used for meat slept. She was an excellent hunter by the time she was a youngling.”
Bellamy smiled, sipping on his drink. “The first time I saw her I felt like she was looking right into me, like I had to be careful of what I was thinking because she could see my thoughts.”
“That knowing gaze she inherited from her father,” Lincoln explained. “Some say he could find a thief just by looking at him, that his eyes could draw out a confession from a mute.” He sighed, “I am happy she has found peace with you and Raven.”
He leaned back in his chair, staring at the sleeping girl. “I think it’s the other way around. Raven and I found peace when we found her.”

Ever kissed your faithful pooch goodbye before a long day at the office and wondered what the heck he's planning on doing all day?
Will he spend hours gazing out the window and mournfully awaiting your return? Maybe he knows how to turn on the television and will finish binging Queer Eye. Or perhaps he'll take advantage of your absence and do all the things he knows deep down he's not supposed to — like sniff around your closet or hop up on the table.
If you're curious about what your furry friends are up to when you're gone, there's only one way to find out: Start spying on your pets.

Now the word "spying" sounds pretty hardcore. To clarify, we're not suggesting you hire a private investigator or even spend your lunch break going back home to check on your pet.
Our version of spying is much easier, and pretty entertaining, if we do say so ourselves. Simply invest in a pet monitoring camera so you can tune in via phone or computer from miles away to see how your dog's doing when your watchful eye isn't physically in the house.
Alone time is great, and even animals need their privacy, but installing a security camera to check in on your pet has some serious benefits. Let's examine a few of the most important, shall we?
1. You can see when they're misbehaving
The first perk of a pet cam, of course, is that it will allow you to catch any wrongdoings that might take place in your absence.
Cameras will give you the opportunity to see if your pooch is really the Good Boy you think or if it's all an act. And if you have multiple pets it's very helpful when it comes to solving mysteries like who's to blame for all the shoe munching?
For instance, a camera helped Twitter user @sofreakingsuper learn that her dog's the one breaking rules and chewing up her paint brushes while she's at work, while her cat just naps all day. Gotta love teens.
So I still have my security camera set up and I’m just watching my cat sleep and my dog chew up my paint brushes while I’m at work. He’s also on our ottoman because he isn’t allowed up there but no one is there to tell him no. Typical teenagers. pic.twitter.com/Q0On1EvJI2

Sometimes you'll learn your pet's using the wrong bed, climbing on furniture, eating people food, and then dramatically falling off the furniture, which is far from ideal.
so got a Furbo dog camera to have fun with Cali. She’s clearly upstairs on our bed rather than in her own. It’s a dog’s life? I wish! pic.twitter.com/wuvX2m9u9Y

One of my best friends set up a camera to monitor their dogs while they're out. Already paying dividends. #gooddog pic.twitter.com/9jwMydukyX

And pet cameras aren't just for home use. If you leave your furry friend at a kennel or day care while you're traveling for a few days, be sure to check if there's a video feed you could tune in to from afar.
That's what Mashable Culture Writer Marcus Gilmer did when he was visiting our New York office, and he wound up discovering his precious pup Charlie was chillin' in timeout 470 miles away.

Warning: In select cases like theses pet cameras do have the potential to break your heart. :(
2. You can capture pure content gold
Pet monitoring cameras record a ton of joyful, hilarious, and impressive "you have to see it to believe it" moments, too, though.
Allow Mashable editor Adam Rosenberg, who temporarily placed his dog camera in the bathroom to capture his talented dog Fozzie's weird but intriguing AF little toilet-adjacent contortions, to prove us right.
And while they sometimes like to hang out near toilet bowls, your pets are smart, so on occasion they do notice they're being watched. If we're being honest, those moments always thoroughly entertaining to witness.
Got a camera for my apartment so I can see and talk to my dog while I'm working. 10/10 great investment pic.twitter.com/IZWfgVSsis

Good job, pups — you caught your humans being kind of creepy!
3. You can hang out with your pets all day
Perhaps one of the ultimate pet cam perks is that it allows you to hang out with your pets ALL THE TIME.
When you're on a No Pets Allowed trip and feeling guilty about leaving them behind, check the cam. When you're having a bad day and need some cheering up, check the cam. And when you're bored at work, wishing your pets were by your side to make the day more bearable, pull up the camera's feed on your computer screen. It'll almost feel like you're hanging out all day!
Mashable's Executive Editor Annie Colbert, who is a few steps and a pencil skirt away from turning into Angela Martin, the uptight cat lady from The Office, does it all the time. (Annie, if you're reading this, we love watching your cat cam and you are much nicer than Angela).

4. Peace of mind
Maybe you feel your pets totally have things under control when you step out and the thought of investing in a security type camera has never even crossed your mind, or perhaps you've been on the fence about dropping some dollars on even more technology. But whatever your stance is, there's no doubt a pet camera will, at the very least, give you peace of mind.
Cameras give you the convenience of checking on your pet whenever, wherever. And sure, your pet might just wind up sleeping all day or walking around the house, but wouldn't you rather know they're safe then have to keep wondering?
And though their time alone in the house might be totally uneventful, seeing pets simply exist and behave when no one watching is extremely heartwarming. JUST LOOK AT ALL THESE GOOD DOGS! 😭😭😭 They deserve extra treats when their owners return home.
I set up a camera to see what my dog does in her kennel while I'm gone. Found out Crixus keeps her company.😍😭 pic.twitter.com/drtIqVx6kT

There’s really no better progress update to get on an isolation/confinement anxiety pup. This is a frame from the home monitoring camera while his humans are out - note the belly up napping in the bottom left corner. 😍😍😍 You are doing it, Gary & fam!!! pic.twitter.com/u4d0lWEAba

Pet spying 101
If you're so convinced by this persuasive argument for spying on your pets that you're now looking for the perfect pet cam, you're in luck!
There are a lot of great cameras made with pets in mind, and even some interactive cameras, like Petcube and Furbo, that allow you to talk to, play with, or dispense treats to your pets while you're gone at the push of a button.
Though, as several camera owners have learned, the extra high-tech ones may give your pet the false impression you're standing outside the door or inspire them to do nothing other than sit in front of the device all day eagerly awaiting treats.
I called my dog via camera and he thinks I’m at his bedroom door and now I feel bad. And yes my dog has his own room before anyone asks. pic.twitter.com/uYo8Av365j

i work from home yet i bought this fancy camera so i can talk to my dogs and feed them treats for the rare occasion that i’m not home @FurboDogCamera pic.twitter.com/7LRBRpX88v

Another thing to keep in mind is that the camera doesn't necessarily have to be pet specific, which means you can use most any household security camera with a feed, like Google's Nest devices.
What's the verdict?
Pet monitoring cameras seem great, right? I mean, as far as I can see, the only downside to installing one could be that you wind up spending too much time checking in on your furry friends.
You know when new parents go out for the first time and politely keep excusing themselves to call the babysitter 24,659,742 times to see if their baby is lost without them or like still blinking at a normal rate? Yeah, don't use the pet camera for that.
We regret to inform you that your pet is probably getting along just fine without you. The camera is just a helpful way to make them feel a little closer despite the distance between you.
So if you've ever been the least bit curious about your pet's behavior or wellbeing when you're separated, why not take the plunge and start spying? At the very least, you'll have a greater peace of mind knowing you can digitally look out for your pet, and maybe if you're really lucky, your camera will capture an LOL-worthy moment.
