sixguns & innuendo
#mantimer#mancomer#tmwnn#douglas mortimer#manco#dollars trilogy#artner#theyre fully clothed but im adding the mature community label bc the phallic innuendo is . quite overt.#hhhhhh i've been thinking a lot lately about gun fetishism in westerns.#the scenes in fafdm where manco and mortimer handle each other's weapons already contain fair amounts of subtext#but i thought.. why not increase the homoeroticism !#sixguns are already practically treated as extensions of their gunslingers. why not let manco give mortimer's buntline a lil kiss? ;0#this was originally gonna be a two-part set with a companion image of mortimer returning the favor on manco's colt#(bc. u know. ''equal partnership'' and all that)#but i spent so much fucking time doing the rendering for this image that i decided to forgo the sequel. sorry + not sorry.#but !!! wow im so proud of the shading on this one. it took me an insane amount of time. please clap.#i might make a separate post later about western genre theory and cowboy gun eroticism but for now.... yehaw for phallic imagery !#for a few dollars more (1965)#westerns#🤠#🍝#art#pardner posts

I just noticed the other day that at the end of the movie, when Mortimer breaks up his partnership with Manco after killing Indio, during the scene Manco is facing the sun and Mortimer stands with his back to it, so we sees Mortimer in shadow and Manco in light. I think this was meant to be a symbolism of sorts, that for Mortimer, Manco represents hope and peace to cling to after fulfilling his life's purpose and avenging what happened to his sister, but he chooses to reject Manco, thus depriving himself of happiness, as we see him then set off on horseback into the void, which probably symbolizes a lonely/dark future or even worse, death itself.
It's very interesting, by the way, that we see the movie from two points of view: Mortimer is out to avenge his sister, and Manco wants to retire, but at the end of the film he offers Mortimer his partnership, and what's more, he offers him something much, much more. His future. He didn't say it specifically, but his words seemed to be an attempt to persuade Mortimer to stay with him and retire with him. That's why he speaks in plural. "We become rich" and "Our partnership". Why else would he have asked what was going to happen to their partnership when Manco told Mortimer during the movie that he wanted to end the bounty hunt after he caught Indio? For me, this movie was about the search for a partner with whom he could settle from Manco's point of view, which may sound strange at first, but if you think about it, it would explain a lot, for example, why he was so spectacularly interested in Mortimer from the very beginning, when he didn't even know who he really was. He simply found him captivating and tried to draw attention to himself (think of the hilarious scene where Manco was peering out of the window with binoculars at Mortimer) with unmistakable flirting. He even went to that train hater old man to try to get more information about Mortimer and that's when he found out his name and the fact that he was also a bounty killer.

well... let's just say I was in a mood for watching a good western one night, watched the dollars triology (and then some) and since then me and my gf have been on a journey.
Absolutely fell in love with Mr. Van Cleef and fully immersed ourselves in the romance of one meddling brat boy and the one wholesome light-of-my-life colonel Douglas.
I implore you, I'm begging go watch "For a few dollars more" bc the only thing missing in this movie is a kiss (but you can definitely pinpoint the time they fucked offscreen). Otherwise it's basically a western romance with a good end.

hey cowboy can I give you my most trusted possession as a gunfighter, my gun/gunbelt, which has saved my life multiple times and I've kept on me for years and I don't feel safe to sleep without. im giving this to you to fight your very personal battle against the man who assaulted your sister, which I reasoned out by getting close enough to you to slip your watch out of your pocket, presumably while you were asleep. please now, accept your watch back from my hand by standing within kissing distance and tenderly brushing your hand along mine as you take it back, and then answering an extremely personal question that you haven't spoken to anyone about in years. then, you'll unbuckle my gunbelt from your waist and hand it back to me while I stare lovingly into your eyes

Manco and Mortimer resume their partnership, experiencing bounty hunter domestic bliss, happy together. Mortimer casually mentions that he had an estranged twin brother who died under mysterious circumstances during the war and how he’d been tracking down leads on that for the past 7 years. Manco laying next to him, eye twitching a little, thinking that if he wrought that kind of revenge on the person who hurt his sister, surely he’d do the same to the man who killed his twin. Mortimer knows Manco is the man who killed his brother. He’s known since they first met. He doesn’t hold it against him. He’s just sweating him.
