You begin to panic a little as you can only think of the likely possibility of Solar turning you down and just as you are prepared to shut down, Solar grips your hand a little tighter, looking somewhat stunned before looking almost…relieved?

“Y/N….do you really? Feel that way about me?”, she asked, her voice shaky, filled with uncertainty.

You take a deep breath and look at her seriously and slowly nod, “Yes, I have never been more sure about anything”.

To your surprise she sighs in what seems to be relief and smiles, almost shyly. “I’m glad, I was a bit afraid I would put you in a tough spot but…I kinda have a crush on you too”.

Huh….did you hear that right? She said she has a crush on YOU?! Your mind raced with thoughts again but at the same time was blank as you were in so much shock. “What?”, you asked in a small voice.

“I like you too”, Solar answered, confidence returning to her voice as she now knows you like her too. It was commonly known that your girlfriend was the hottest thing in kpop and you were very much aware of that. The glint in Hwasa's eye told you she had done all of this on purpose and you didn't know what to do. Hwasa strut around the stage, nailing the vocals and showing off her playful personality. She then started making her way into the crowd and made a beeline for you. The fans of course all went crazy and Hwasa played with them all before stopping in front of you. She made out like it was all random and she didn't know you. She sang your favourite part of the song to you, holding onto your hand and you wanted so badly to kiss her...but then Hwasa was back on stage and you thought you were safe but no. A sudden dance break was added and Hwasa performed some very hot choreography driving you crazy. When the number finished the other members all appeared and laughed muttering things to Hwasa. "That was on purpose right?" Moonbyul's girlfriend whispered in your ear. Hwasa made eye contact with you and winked making you laugh "totally on purpose". “Next week-”

“Next week?!? C’mon, we’re going out. You have plenty of time to study and be shut in next week.” Solar manages to pull you out of the chair, and you yell as you fall on the floor.

“Solar!” You yelp before fixing your papers. “Fine, I’ll go with you, but let me organize my shit and get changed. I’ll be out in ten or fifteen minutes.”

“You better, otherwise I’ll drag you out of here myself.”

You gulp nervously as she seriously stares at you before closing the door behind her. Although she was sweet and bubbly most of the time, there were moments where she could be really scary if she wanted to.

You quickly organize your desk, plug in your computer to charge, and close your notebook before grabbing an outfit from your closet. You get changed, comb your hair, and put on some deodorant before meeting Solar in the living room.

“Are you ready to go?” You ask as Solar nods. “Where are we going anyways?”

She smiles before winking at you and grabbing your hand.

"You both know why you're here."

The security girl fidgeted with her fingers, avoiding looking at you two from her seat near the CEO.

Yes, you knew as soon as you stepped into the meeting room with Solar. Realization poured into you like the rainstorm outside, big windows showing a darkening sky with lightning in the distance. The company got fancier with your hard work; that was the truth. During debut times, you'd be oblivious to the outside climate since it used to be settled in a modest basement. There were no cameras around, too — so upper management was also oblivious to the inside climate. Completely unaware of any mishappenings between Solar and you taking place at the practice rooms.

"For formalities sake, for the record," he said while turning his chair around, remote control in hand to close off the blinds, "let's go over it. From the start. Have a seat, please."

Solar sat down first. You felt an uneasiness crumbling up your throat as you finally acknowledged her presence there. She walked by your side the whole time, yet, since your last kiss, you treated her like a ghost — not looking, avoiding being near. Keeping your head down. You approached it as a way to save your energy to tenfold interact and put on a friendly face once promotions begin.

Was it smart, considering you'd been caught? Probably not, and you could hear Solar going on about it inside your head — "We could've come up with a plan, we could've planned what to say" — but instead it just solidified your current behavior. You wouldn't bear her treating your feelings like a work matter ever again, albeit it being the rational course of action.

Just let me be the selfish one, for once.

"Hey," she called up to you, breaking the silence, saying your name in a lower tone. Solar made an effort to accompany the direction of your gaze, eventually locking both in the same place. "It'll be okay. Come on. Sit down too."

You widened your mouth, "What...?" not understanding a thing. Her tone and her sweet demeanor seemed so foreign. You watched Solar, expecting to find the same old traces of nervousness, regret, and anger, but none of it showed while she calmly poured water on an empty cup and slid it in front of the chair you were supposed to sit on. By her side.

"What the hell, Solar..." you whispered, pulling the chair to sit down. It was hard to keep your eyebrows from frowning when her affection finally came, just when you least expected it. Or wanted it.

The thunderstorm outside was loud but not enough to prevent you from hearing the CEO's frustrated sigh. The papers next to him resembled the contract you signed years ago, but you didn't dare stare at it to confirm.

"There's no use in denying anything here, I must warn you. It was sufficient damage to our trust already that you two hid this from us," he said, eyes going from Solar to you and you-to-Solar nonstop. "To guarantee that, let's hear from the security camera's person. What were your findings, Byulyi?"

She put her hand on her chest as if to defend herself from an accusation, "I-I-I-I didn't find it, I just gave their manager the footage when he demanded it..."

"Ahem, right, you didn't snoop on them. Just say what was on your monitor. What the cameras recorded when these two were alone in the practice room."

"Well, kissing. And arguing. Then, crying." Byulyi spoke with pauses and mouthed a sorry when the CEO diverted his eyes from her to Solar and you.

"We can't afford a crisis just before a comeback. Doing his job, your manager realized the change in behaviour after that one practice session and went after the footage," he explained. "So, save my time here. You're not denying it, are you?"

You gulped. It felt like instinct to deny since, after all, you denied even your own feelings related to her. But the words couldn't come forward this time around.

"No," Solar said with an unshakable ease. "It's true. All of it. And there's more to it than what you saw on camera."

Under the table, Solar grabbed your hand and pressed it. She was scared, you supposed, despite her attitude. Scared you might open up with a different story, ruining whatever cold plan she came up with to save her skin. You could see where that was going; you imagined she wouldn't deny it and would proceed to throw you under the bus.

Would she be wrong, though? You were the only one who cared. Who cultivated pointless feelings. If someone was to blame and suffer the consequences, it probably should be you.

But there's nothing more to it, you thought, and would've said if brave enough to, because you never wanted anything to do with me, Solar.

"Okay, more than that? Are you saying it's a relationship, Yongsun?" the CEO asked. "Even in office jobs you would report this sort of thing to HR, you know. Pff," he scoffed.

"I meant more feelings wise," Solar explained. A single tear rolled down your cheek while your hand felt lighter as your fingers escaped her grip. "Not a relationship. No, I'm too stupid for that. I've just been dragging this situation along and don't deserve to be with her."

He crossed his arms at his chest. "Look, I'm not here to hear your drama. Just tell me what is this that you two have exactly."

You looked at Solar, unexpectedly finding out that she'd been crying in silence just like you.

"We have nothing. I like her and that's all, it's irrelevant if she likes me back or not. Heck, I'm not even sure if she does or not." It seemed like she would say more, but the tears got in the way. Byulyi, who seemingly wanted nothing to do with the situation, appeared to be emotional too.

The CEO was the only one with a dry face.

"You just said it's irrelevant if she likes you back or not. Let's get to the point."

"Yes yes, I'm just reaffirming — she has nothing to do with it. As the leader I should've known better than being so unprofessional. The punishment should be on me and accordingly to what's expected of my position."

"So? You're both adults and I watched the footage. It didn't seem like an one-sided thing as you're painting it to be."

Solar sighed. The tip of her fingers found your hand again and caressed it.

"I'm just saying that —" she stopped to dry her tears "— if you're planning on cancelling our contracts, cancel mine. Only mine."

The surprise, the confession, the sacrifice she'd put herself up for because of you. The overwhelm in emotions made you a bit sick for just thinking the opposite, struggling to find the words to stop Solar from what she was trying to do.

The papers on top of the desk, supposedly your contracts, seemed to be growing in size as the CEO's fingers tapped on them. When his eyes diverted from it to you, you knew there was no need to say anything else.

Solar is the only one who's been quiet.

"Are you excited for tonight, Solar? We've got a nomination and a big night of fun ahead!" Moonbyul said but Solar just shrugged her shoulders.

"I'm ready!" You yelled out as you started to come down the steps, making everyone except Solar get even more excited.

Moonbyul was practically speechless when she saw you.

You've kept your outfit for the night a surprise from everyone, since you knew it was going to wow them all, especially your girl.

It might seem a bit over the top at first but you knew ahead of time that everything Solar says isn't anything to take personally. It's all just to see Moonbyul's reaction to this prank.

"Not really," Solar said and suddenly, everyone was looking at her.

"You don't like it?" You asked with a frown. "I picked it out special for tonight because I thought this outfit looked beautiful."

"It doesn't."

You pretended to be taken aback by her words while Moonbyul actually was.

"This is the biggest award show in all of kpop and you chose to wear that?" Solar asked with a disgusted look on her face. "You could've done better."

"Solar!" Moonbyul scolded.

"What? Sorry, am I the only one that's going to say the truth?" She scoffed. "It's nothing personal, Y/N. I just don't think it looks good on you."

"Solar, what's wrong with you?" Hwasa asked with a fake angry expression on her face.

"Y/N is dating Moonbyul. Look at how beautiful our Moonbyul looks! I think her girlfriend should try and do the same."

"Solar, stop it!" Moonbyul yelled.

"Moonbyul, calm down. I'm sure she didn't mean it." Wheein said as she tried to reason with her friend, but Moonbyul wasn't having it.

"Well, she shouldn't say it! Whether she means what she's saying or not, it's not cool! You're being mean to my girlfriend and for what? What did she do to you?"

Solar lowered her head with a sad sigh.

"Tell me, Solar. When is the last time you went in and got your vision checked? Because you think my girl looks bad? You must be blind. She looks stunning. She always does! You're just mad and jealous that you don't have a girlfriend as hot as mine."

Moonbyul pulled you into her arms and kissed your cheek before she began to apologize as she rubbed your shoulder.

But the sound of her friends laughing made her eyebrows furrow in confusion.

"What's so funny?"

"Nothing." Hwasa smiled as she shook her head. "We just had a feeling that you'd react like this."

"What?" Moonbyul spoke.

"Moonbyul, you actually think I'd be that mean to your girl?" Solar asked in disbelief. "It was a prank!"

Moonbyul looked between the four of you in shock.

That had all been a prank?

"Are you serious?" Moonbyul scoffed.

"Yeah!" Solar chuckled. "I adore Y/N, you know that. I'd never say that stuff to her unless it's for something like this. She was in on it! We all were!"

"You were in on this?" Moonbyul asked you as she gazed at you in disbelief.

"Yeah." You giggled. "The girls wanted to see how you'd react if one of them said something like this about me. They knew you'd be all sweet and protective."

"That's mean." She pouted at you until you kissed her lips, kissing her adorable pout away.

"Sorry, baby." You said as you put your hands on her shoulders.

"You swear that you don't mean anything you said about her?" She asked as she looked over to Solar.

"I swear," Solar promised. "Y/N knows it too."

"Of course I do." You said as you pulled away from Moonbyul as Solar came over to you to give you a hug.

The sight warmed Moonbyul's heart and despite everything, she found herself smiling and happily dropping it all.

It was all just to see how she'd react to someone saying that about you and she knew you and the girls had no bad intentions behind that.

Something about that was super sweet to Moonbyul.

"We're all good, right? You know I was just messing around?" Solar asked Moonbyul, who nodded before pulling her friend in for a hug.

"Yeah. Just know that if you ever say anything bad about her and you're not joking around or pranking someone, I will hurt you." Moonbyul said.

Everyone laughed but, deep down, they knew she was being sorta serious while messing around.

"I believe it. But don't worry because that will never happen." Solar promised. "But you should know that if you ever let her go for any reason, I'm stealing her away from you."

You giggled as you put your arm around Moonbyul.

That was never going to happen.

But at least Moonbyul had a fair warning if it did.

Solar - She becomes an adorable mess

You'd liked Solar for a while now and admired so many things about her. How good a leader she was, how powerful her voice was, how loud and excited she got when playing a game and also how great a friend she was. She was always there when you needed her no matter her busy idol schedule and that's how you fell for her. All her members were aware of your crush on her and encouraged you to ask her out assuring you she would say yes but it took 3 months of them hyping you up for you to do it.

They'd even helped plan it for you and arranged for Solar to be in the practice room all ready for you when you "forgot your phone" and had come to look for it. Solar spotted you as soon as you walked in and shot you a big smile which made all her members smirk. You tried to pretend you hadn't seen them and smiled back at Solar. "Hey Y/n, what’s a nice girl like you doing here?" Solar called. That did make you blush but if you stopped what you were doing anytime Solar made you light headed you'd never get anything done. "I've lost my phone and I was in here rehearsing this morning" you said. Solar was immediately in leader mode "hmm well I haven't seen anything but let's search together yeah?". You thanked her and started looking in all the obvious places, the plug sockets, the corners, the mats etc. You felt slightly bad considering your phone was in your pocket but the members all gave you the thumbs up and conveniently left the room. After exhausting all the possible options Solar sighed "maybe it fell behind the sound unit? If you help me I bet we can totally move it" she said prepared to rearrange the studio for you but you stopped her. "No it's okay...I've been a few places so I'll have a look for it there". Solar nodded "do you need any help?". You shook your head "no I've wasted too much of your time already but I do have a question for you". Your heart was hammering in your chest but Solar just nodded "oh yeah? What is it?". You could feel yourself shaking and felt like it was 100 degrees in here but swallowed that fear and stared at the beautiful girl in front of you. "So I really like you, as more than a friend and was wondering if you'd maybe want to get dinner with me sometime?".

The few seconds before Solar responded seemed to go on for an eternity but when she responded it made it all worth it. Solar's eyes widened and then an unmistakable blush spread across her face and she stared at the floor unable to look at you. "Yeah I'd love that!" she said her voice breaking and she winced going even redder "I really like you too so would definitely want to do that...with you. On a date" she said mumbling and you couldn't believe 1. that she'd said yes and 2. that the unflappable leader was a blushing mess because of you! You always saw Solar as confident and cool but this was a totally new and unseen side. "Sorry" she said "I know I'm acting really uncool right now I've just been wanting to ask you for ages and I can't really believe this is happening". She was so damn adorable you took her hands and squeezed them "well it is, I think you're one of the kindest, smartest, most fun people I've ever met and I can't wait to pursue this with you". Solar went pink again but she nodded not looking away from your gaze "me too, I promise I'll be a great girlfriend...wait shit you didn't ask me to be your girlfriend just to go on a date dammit Solar! I'm sorry" she said to you and you laughed "Solar it's okay I love seeing this side to you". "You do? You're not regretting asking me out?" she asked and you shook your head "not for a second, so are you free Friday?". Solar nodded "yes" and you smiled "great I'll text you some places we can go" and waved goodbye. When you got out of the studio you both collapsed with huge goofy grins on your face.

 Moonbyul - She thinks you're joking

Let's be honest Moonbyul was a woman magnet, so there was really no questions of if you'd fall for her but more when and the answer to that question was within 1 month of meeting her. You thought you were a pretty slick gay, you didn't panic over a pretty face and were calm and collected but then you met Moonbyul and that all changed. She flirted with you 5 times in your first meeting and although you calmly flirted back with her on the inside you felt like your legs were jelly. Every meeting with her was like that as Moobyul was the queen of flirting. All her members claimed she'd met her match in you because you did flirt back with her and the two of you had a very cheeky friendship. The only problem with that is, you weren't joking. You meant every word you said to her but Moonbyul didn't realise that and you were too scared to tell her until eventually one day it just slipped out.

You were over at Moonbyul's house getting ready to go out shopping when as usual you got sidetracked. Moonbyul's new single came out and she asked if you wanted to listen to it and of course you said yes. You loved when Moonbyul rapped but adored her singing voice and smiled the whole way through it. "So what do you think?" she asked "I wasn't sure how my voice came across because you know it's not as strong as the other girls...." when you cut her off. "Moonbyul, it was amazing". "Really?" she asked and you nodded "yep, the beat was great and the lyrics were so truthful and so many people are going to connect with them. Plus your voice is beautiful just like you are". Moonbyul pushed your shoulder and stood up to get her coat "can you stop joking with me for 2 seconds?". "I wasn't joking with you" you said and Moonbyul shook her head laughing. You were tired of pretending so you were finally honest.

"I'm being serious, I think you're very beautiful and I really like you" you said and Moonbyul paused. She had her back to you so you couldn't see her reaction but could see how tense her shoulders had become. "You do?" she asked and you nodded "yes, I've been serious this whole time but never worked up the courage to tell you...you've never been a joke to me Moonbyul". Moonbyul still hadn't turned around and you had no idea what was going through that pretty head of hers. "I understand if you don't feel the same way, that's totally fine" you assured her "I just wanted you to know". "No" Moonbyul said and your heart froze, when she didn't reply you prompted her "no what?". "No, I want you" Moonbyul said turned around and you saw the shocked expression on her face but also the big smile. "This was never just a joke to me either and I'd love to take you out some time". You grinned before shaking your head "take me out? I asked you out! Surely it's me who gets to take you out". Moonbyul smirked "technically you just said you liked me, not that you wanted to take me on a date so when people ask I get to say I was the one who asked you out" she said poking you in the shoulder. You shook your head laughing at her "you're unbelievable!" and she laughed "I know but you're the one with a crush on me" making you blush. Moonbyul wrapped her arms around you in a hug and you gave in hugging her back "I am the person with a crush on you" and Moonbyul giggled which was the nicest noise you'd ever heard. You vowed at that moment to make her as happy and laugh as much as you possibly could.

Wheein - You have to get through her members

Wheein was the fake maknae of the group and you were aware all her members treated her that way. You found it really sweet how they all rallied anytime she needed anything and took care of her however you never expected them to be so protective over Wheein when it came to you. You'd been friends with Wheein from pretty much the start as you both debuted around similar times and from there your friendship developed into a romance. You weren't very good at keeping secrets so planned to ask Wheein out but also knew her members well enough to know they'd want to know first. So you texted Hwasa asking if you could swing by on a day you knew Wheein was off filming and she said yes.

You walked into the studio and saw the 3 girls messing around while they were supposed to be rehearsing. "Y/n!" Solar cried "tell them two to stop messing around and actually do some work". You raised your hands "I'm not taking sides" and watched as they literally ran rings around Solar before calming down. "So what did you have to tell us?" Hwasa asked and you paused "I'm going to ask Wheein out". They all paused and you knew you'd done the right thing coming to them personally. 

"You are?" Hwasa asked and you nodded "and I figured you might have questions". Moonbyul nodded "that's point 1 to you because yes we do, what are your intentions with Wheein?" she asked. You blushed "I just want to date her, to spend time with her and be around her more and see her smile". "Good answer" Solar nodded "and how do you plan to have a relationship while also being a busy idol?". You were expecting this one so nodded "well Wheein and I already have a successful friendship for a year while being idols. As you know we meet up regularly and I always respond to her messages within hours. I will make Wheein my priority and makes sure every day she at least hears from me virtually is not in person and of course I will discuss this with Wheein and make sure we have the same understanding about communication". "That is important" Hwasa admitted "finally, what are your plans for the future?". "For the future?" you asked and Hwasa nodded "do you plan on being an idol forever?". You thought about it for a few seconds before replying "I love singing and performing so would like to continue with my group for as long as we can but after that I'd like to step down from the spotlight and have a normal life. I'd like to move out of the city and settle down with some pets and just have a content country life". The girls all looked at each before nodding "okay well you've passed the test so we have no problem with you asking Wheein....". "Asking me what?" a voice called and you turned to see Wheein herself. "Wheein, I thought you had filming all day?" Solar asked. Wheein nodded "I did but then the director got called away on an emergency so we finished up and rescheduled. What's going on here? You look like you were interviewing y/n". "Well we kinda were" Hwasa admitted and Solar shot her a look. Wheein looked at you "Y/n? What did you want to ask me?". You blushed but shot her a warm smile "fancy getting a coffee from the canteen?".

Once you were refuelled Wheein turned to you with a concentrated expression on her face that let you know she wanted answers so you told her. "I'm here because I want to ask you if you'd like to go on a date with me". Wheein blinked "I'm sorry what?". "I like you Wheein" you said "and wanted to know if you want to be something romantic with me". Wheein blushed "I...but why did that involve my members?". You laughed "I know how protective over you they are so I thought I'd tell them first and answer any worries they had about me". Wheein's eyes widened "but they love you! I can't think of anyone better for me to go out with" before blushing. You smiled "they did approve but their opinion doesn't matter, only yours does. So what do you think? If you say no they'll be no awkwardness or hurt feelings. Absolutely no pressure". Wheein blushed "of course I want to go out with you!" and she reached across the table and took your hand. You both went pink as you stared at one another and then Wheein's eyes went to something behind your head and her smile froze "give me one minute, I have some members to kill for grilling you". She ran over to them and then ran after them when they fled knowing what was coming. You watched her track them down smiling to yourself because you'd got a date with that girl.

 Hwasa - She makes your sweat

You were known for being the cool girl in your group but nobody could compare to the Queen of cool Hwasa. You'd met through the idol circuit and got pushed together often for your bold stage presence and confident looks. You'd interacted a lot in this way and naturally became friends. You soon realised that while Hwasa was also shy and cute, her confidence was authentic and wasn't an act at all. She was comfortable in herself and loved herself which was one of the most endearing things about her and a reason you fell for her. She was perfect in about a million different ways and you decided you couldn't keep your cool member card and NOT ask her out.

You had the whole thing planned out. You were meeting up to go out to see a movie and then go for a meal. You purposefully dressed up hoping to impress Hwasa but when you got to her house to pick her up she was dressed in a stunning red trouser-top combo. "Wow" you said as you got out of the car and Hwasa smiled "funny I was going to say the same thing about your outfit, your ass looks amazing in that dress". You blushed "thanks I thought I'd dress up a little tonight and great minds clearly think alike because you did too". Hwasa smiled "we're just perfect for each other aren't we?" making you go bright pink and all you could manage was to open her door for her. Hwasa was usually flirty but this was something else. 

When you walked from the car to the cinema she entwinced your arms and you walked in together like a couple. Then during the film she asked if you could put your arm around her because she was struggling to get comfortable. You did as she said and she nestled into your neck and stayed cuddled up with you the whole film. Then on the drive to the restaurant she touched your leg when she got excited about some gossip she hadn't shared with you and then forgot to move it, keeping it there the whole way there. At the restaurant she kept complimenting you and when her food arrived she insisted you try it, even leaning across the table to feed it to you. So it was fair to say you were well and truly flustered and your plan had gone out the window. 

As you were walking back to the car Hwasagrabbed your hand and a lady commented on how cute the two of you were. Hwasa smiled "my girlfriend is adorable isn't she" and carried on walking as if it was nothing. When you got in the car you turned to her "I...has something happened I don't know about?". Hwasa shot you an innocent look "no, why? Is something wrong?". "No just you've been different tonight". Hwasa tilted her head to one side "didn't you like it?". You blushed "I...I just want to know why you were acting like that, was it for fun or were you being serious". Hwasa smiled "of course it wasn't for fun dummy! I like you and Moonbyul might've let slip that tonight was the night you were finally going to ask me out!". You gasped "she didn't! I made her promise to keep it a secret". "Yeah but you picked the biggest blabbermouth so it's your fault really" Hwasa said laughing. "I can't believe you knew, so all night you were just testing my nerve huh?". Hwasa nodded "At first I just wanted to see if it was true, if you really did like me but after you blushed more than the embarrassed emoji I figured it was true and was just trying to encourage you". "You nearly killed me is what you did!" you cried and Hwasa chuckled "you still haven't asked me". "Yeah well maybe I won't after your games" you teased and Hwasa blinked back at you "you will especially after this" and she kissed you. In fairness Hwasa could do absolutely anything and you'd be near fainting but that kiss was amazing and when Hwasa pulled away you were seeing stars. Hwasa realised you were a little lost for words and stroked your cheek "y/n, will you go out with me?". That jolted you back into existence "but I thought you wanted me to ask?". "I did but you seemed like you needed recovery so I thought I'd ask, so what's the answer? Don't leave me hanging". You said yes of course.

[INTERVIEW] Herald Interview |  MAMAMOO+ hopes to pave new path for girl group longevity

Solar and Moonbyul of MAMAMOO drop 1st EP 'Two Rabbits' as a duo

A decade together has passed already for Solar and Moonbyul of Mamamoo, yet the two singers still feel like fresh rookies, they said in a recent interview.

The interview, conducted with local press on Tuesday in Seoul, came a few days before the duo's subunit return as Mamamoo Plus, with their first EP "Two Rabbits."

Imagining this moment around a decade ago when they first set off as Mamamoo in 2014, Moonbyul said she did not imagine a rosy future just then.

"I thought that my career as an idol singer would not last long, because fame wanes. I'd already been worrying about what I would do 10 years later," the Mamamoo rapper, who has enjoyed quite a stable career as a solo singer, said.

Now she realizes it was all needless apprehension. According to Moonbyul, having accumulated the knowledge and experience of the past 10 years, it is just the beginning for her.

Considering that many new idol singers do not have much control over their career in the early years, especially the first seven when they are tied to the company-friendly contract, Moonbyul's statement may not be an exaggeration.

That's why Mamamoo Plus carries a personal significance for the two, as they willingly chose to come together as a subunit where they could do music to suit their own tastes.

"The two of us always preferred bright and upbeat music, which was what Mamamoo music was in the early stages, but later turned darker. We really wanted to pull up the energy inside us and that resulted in the new song, 'Dangdang,'" Solar said.

"Dangdang" is the lead single on the duet's new album "Two Rabbits," which is set to be released Thursday evening.

The boisterous dance tune with an easy-listening melody and repetitive lyrics was initially intended for a Mamamoo album, but was dropped, the duo explained.

"It was replaced by 'Starry Night.' The situation was complicated, but above all, I had a herniated disk and couldn't dance. Instead of 'Dangdang,' we went for 'Starry Night,'" Solar explained. "Starry Night" led the quartet's sixth EP, "Yellow Flower," which came out in March 2018.

At the time, they only had the chorus for "Dangdang." But Moonbyul said she was gripped by it the instant she heard it, so much so that she wanted to include it on her solo album.

"I felt just like the first line of the song. 'My head is going dangda-dangdang.' I felt numb hearing the song for the first time. But, the song was constantly pushed down the list. I'd kept it in a corner of my mind ever since and brought it back up because it's such a perfect match for Mamamoo Plus' identity," the rapper said.

Upon the prime sound, the two piled on new sounds flourishing with Mamamoo Plus' iconic peppy energy, Moonbyul explained. Their bandmate Hwasa, who contributed to writing the original chorus, is also credited as a composer and lyricist along with the duo.

While the forthcoming album is not the first from the Mamamoo subgroup, the two musicians say it's the album through which they introduce and define the sonic landscape they hope to paint as Mamamoo Plus: innocently uplifting music.

Welcoming listeners into the album is "Intro: Two Rabbits," which sets the foundation of the team's identity, according to Solar. "It plays in the outro of the title song music video, like a foreshadowing of what's to come. It's that significant and has much more to show," she said, expounding on the first track.

One of the tracks, "I Like This," was a song from 10 years ago, she added.

"The members together wrote the lyrics and made the choreography then, but it couldn't come out due to bad timing. I've been hanging onto it since," Solar said.

The fourth track, "Starry Sea," is a melodic hip-hop tune with sentimental lyrics inspired by Mamamoo's "Starry Night."

"Save Me," which was prereleased from the album in July, stands out among the package of perky scores with its calm, doleful tune. Moonbyul took part in writing the melody and words for the song.

Mamamoo Plus came out as the four-member group's first subunit in August 2022 with the first digital single "Better." In March, the duo dropped the first official single, "Act 1 Scene 1," fronted by title track "GGBB" and prerelease "Chico Malo."

According to Moonbyul, "GGBB" and "Chico Malo" were both of distinctively unique styles. The groovy dance-pop "GGBB" and "Chico Malo," a fusion of Korean and Latin sounds, had touched upon the broad musical landscape the two artists were capable of.

With "Dangdang," the two say they hope to reach a larger audience and boost their presence as rookie artists.

"We're pop singers, so it's inevitable that we stay aware of the public reaction. Whether to follow popular trends or to follow our creed is a never-ending dilemma," said Solar, the leader of Mamamoo as well as the subunit.

She continued: "That's why as a soloist I try to do what I want, like the shaved head style I did before. But as Mamamoo Plus, popularity is important as we will only exist as long as people continue to like us and our music."

A No. 1 on any music chart -- and staying on it for multiple weeks -- is the main goal with "Two Rabbits," according to Solar.

Making themselves known and thriving beyond Mamamoo is another goal, Moonbyul added.

Surpassing the high standards set by Mamamoo is a task that all four bandmates of the massively popular K-pop group share as they venture forth to the next stage of their careers.

Moonbyul and Solar remain with RBW, while Wheein and Hwasa left the company with the termination of their exclusive contracts. Wheein departed in 2021 and Hwasa last month.

Although groups tended to disband naturally in such situations in the past, recently many -- the likes of 2PM, GOT7, Girls' Generation and Infinite -- continue as a team despite contractual differences, Mamamoo being one of the latest examples.

"We think we've contributed to extending the longevity (of idol groups), and we feel proud," Moonbyul said, adding, "Even if we all belong to different companies, it doesn't mean Mamamoo has come to an end. We cherish each of our own dreams as much as the group. We'll exist alone yet together."

Solar said Mamamoo Plus will launch its first standalone concert tour this year.

"We're planning to hold concerts within the second half of this year, here and overseas. We expect we'll have many opportunities to meet our fans this year," she said.

Mamamoo Plus' first EP, "Two Rabbits," comes out at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
