I also think what makes Liam’s death so hard is the realization that those little fan-girl days are truly over.

I would always look back on memories of being a young teen and having not a care in the world but one direction. I would miss the staying up late to watch interviews. I would miss making these fan edits and posting them to my fan account. I would miss the innocence of being a young girl in love with a boyband.

Of course as I grew up and became an adult, I have matured and in a sense “put those days behind me”. But I still had so much love and respect for One Direction and how much they meant to me growing up.

I guess I just always held onto this belief that One Direction wasn’t really over. Even when Zayn left. Even when they announced their hiatus. I knew that that boys loved their fans and they all needed time to find themselves and heal from their own experiences, good and bad. I knew it must have not been easy for them to be catapulted into the spotlight at such a young age. I just always had this belief that maybe they wouldn’t entirely regroup / start over again as One Direction … but that they would at least have reunion to show that they are still strong and they are still proud of the band.

But with Liam’s passing, the possibility of One Direction truly never having a proper reunion is a punch to the gut knowing that we will never witness them together again. Also, selfishly, knowing I will never be able to see them in concert like so many other lucky fans were. It feels like a part of my inner teen also died. Knowing she will never be able to experience the joys and love that came from one direction makes me so sad for her. Adult me, knowing I will never be able to re-experience One Direction is also grieving it. 

When did we all grow up?

From now on, every music video, every throwback photo, or even any future reunion will always look this sense of sadness. Knowing that we are missing one of our boys.

this is one of the many reasons why i’ve loved zayn for years. 2013 was a very homophobic/transphobic time and lot of interviewers were trying to shame him and make fun of him for dressing in drag during the best song ever music video. the questions always came with a tone that it was such an outrageous thing for him to do, but zayn embraced it. he was ahead of the time and always said how nice it was to experience being in touch with his feminine side whilst acknowledging how much effort women put in to feel beautiful 🥺

Guys, a 31 years old boy is dead. I repeat, a 31 years old boy is dead. “Fate” wanted that this boy was in the most loved and famous band of the last twenty years and this is why today every reflector was on Harry, Louis, Niall and Zayn unfortunately. What should they have done? Should they have given us a show? Should they have done a kind of fan service? Should they have brought to life your fantasizes? Should they have acted like they were in a fucking fan-fiction? Guys, you don't understand. Liam is dead. A 31 years old boy is dead tragically and violently. And this funeral, THIS DAY, was about HIM. To celebrate his life, to remember him, to say goodbye to him, to try to find a kind of closure (as if it was possible). To me the boys acted in the most respectful way because they did nothing to seek attention. They were in the background and I think that they were commited to stay as lowkey as possible. I can't imagine how they felt, how it was to know that a bunch of paps were taking photos of their pain because they knew that every reflector would have been on them. But they tried to be invisible and gave paps the minimum and this was on purpose. I repeat, this day wasn't about One Direction. This day wasn't about Harry, Louis, Zayn and Niall and their relationship. This day wasn't a reunion. This day was for Liam and his family. And every theory and every comment can go and fuck themselves. People don't have respect.
