I do think that if you're close to them, Mhin and Vere are the best at figuring out when you're upset or feeling melencholic. But they figure it out differently.

Mhin knows because they are observant and and have a habit of monitoring your behavior and file it away in their mind (and maybe notebooks whos to say really) so they have already identified your nervous/sad ticks before you let out a sigh. They would have ALOT of trouble just... to bring it up to you i think. So they would just... find ways to distract you. By leading you to an alleyway filled with cats and giving you little factoids about cats, plants in Eridia, or anything else. They might try to weave a metaphor in their exposé. Stuff like plants that survive the fogfall by shedding aerial parts and continuing on throughout a cimolex root system of roots and bulbs. And when you inevitably exclaim "like a potato?". They just turn away and chuckle. Before you can revel in this first of its kind achievement, they turn on their heals and invite you to dinner, "since you're so hungry", and they add that a couple of baked potatoes would suffice as payment for the day. You're much more animated as you follow along. Good. Thats how they like you.

Vere figures it out with his keen sense of smell. His way of asking you if you're ok is to remark on the suffocating stench of your misery (not the kind he could put you through. that is to say, the good kind, the only kind, you're his plaything". He also asks if this is your attempt at killing him. He assures you that it wouldn't come close, but he is bothered enough by it to remedy it personally.I think he would try to distract you too. By taking you to see his favorite performers (that luthist really does have talent) or activating your fight or flight instinct. Depends really. If it can be fixed by getting rid of someone, he takes care of it. Brings you their bloody fingers, to offset this uncharacteristic show of empathy. He can't have you going around thinking you'll always be in his good graces you know? If it can be solved with money, he steals it for you. Also brings you fingers, or hands you the coins in a bloody pouch. He fully expects gratitude btw.

Now the rest of the cast also catch on pretty quickly, mind you, i just think these two are the first .

As for Leander, he would also catch on quickly by interacting with you and picking up on subtle clues. If you spent enough time with him you develop a knack for knowing when his mask is thicker than usual. There is just, a glint in his eyes when he speaks about certain things that makes his usual demeanor look... unauthentic. And when you're upset, truly upset, his praticed lines irritate you. You might be tempted to yell at him to leave if he's just going to throw some half hearted words at you, even if those words are tailored to you and your responses.

Tbh i dont think that would ever be enough for him to open up completely, but he might give you a vague, roundabout inch. By, for instance, showing you something and vaguely mentioning that it was crucial in helping him become the man he is today, and that he holds it dear. That its a testament to his resilience, a trait he knows you share.

And while small, and practiced there is a hint of vulnerability there. You know that its the most he could ever give (at least at this point), and it warms your heart. Leander is happy to know that he could help ease your pain a little, but he looks at you and this valuable object and he makes a connection: both you and it have come to him at a time of great need. This connection places yet another green seal on your fate.

Merry Christmas, my incredible artist. Very formal anon here. As the year ends, I would just like to reflect on your impact on it. Your art has been a wonderful constant to every day, and my heart lightens every time I see a new piece pop up on my feed. To describe your art, I would say that it strikes a very particular chord within me. Your expressions are melencholic, just as joy-filled as they are heartbreaking to witness. The way your art flows and ebbs is soft, like whipped cream or cheesecake( although, I'm pretty hungry right now, so that might contribute to that comparison. Cheesecake is a favorite of mine, if that says anything about how much I adore your art). Or maybe like those really soft pillows that I only see at department stores. Something along those lines.

Looking back on this year, it's safe to say that looking at your art has gotten me through some rough patches. That is why, above everything else, I'd say that your art is comfort. Lovely and strikingly real in a way that makes me connect better with the media that it portrays. So much that I feel that I'll never have enough words to accurately describe just how much it matters to me. So, as I come into the new year, I'd just like to say thank you. For everything you do. I'm acutely aware this is quite a lot of emotion for an ask, but I'd just like you to know how much you matter. To reiterate, thank you for the impact you've had. Intense bear hugs from across the internet.

"I craved acceptance." The sigh is from a deep place, an approximation of where the lungs should be. "Such hubris. Such foolishness. I thought that what I was doing was right."

"There was no other way." The skeleton chattered. "I believe that."

"Father… Would it hurt you to know? I believed there was no other way, I wanted it so badly to be true, even now. But alas, I knew it was simply the easier option. I wanted to be a hero, I didn't want to die; To be a martyr for this world. I'd given everything to it, why should I have to give it this? And still, praise falls upon deaf ears of the dead. I wanted to reap the benefits, to have songs written about me. I chose to do those evil things in service of my own self, not others. I thought that I could make them love me, if they could just see."

"That is very human, I think. To be selfish. It doesn't hurt me, because I know you. Death creates a clarity which one cannot possess until they experience it. It makes these things appear smaller, simpler. And you are undying." A pause. The empty sockets stare into equally empty glass lenses of the mask. "…I love you. I always have."

There is a weight to the words unspoken. "…I know."

A bony hand reaches out to touch the leather glove. "Even when others were afraid of you, when you felt alone. I was there."

Another sigh, muffled by the mask. The leather gloved hand grasps at the bones which had been offered to it. "I wish it had been enough. More than anything, I wish it would have satisfied me."

"I don't think greed is a sin when the thing you wish to hoard is love."

The empty lenses of the mask alight with red pin-pricks for a moment. Eyeless pupils in the dark haze behind the glass. "The acts committed in service to the greed are the sin."

"Sure, that's true." The skeleton nods. "The world will not forgive you, and you will not forgive yourself. Is that punishment enough? I don't think that either of us can say for certain. All I know is that if I were a god, I would have accepted your suffering as payment long ago."

"I try to erase what I've done with every good deed I commit, but it will never be enough. My hands are stained so very red, and nothing will clean them."

Another long pause settled between the two, until the skull chatters: "…No, it will not. What you've done can't be erased."

The 'face' of the bird-like mask turns away. "…I just wanted something to understand me. I wanted something I could curl into and call home. The power eventually became that thing, I fear. And now I am doomed to be alone for eternity." A ghost of a laugh echoes behind leather, melencholic. "…Isn't that ironic? That my heroism would cause permanent isolation, the one thing I distained. It's like observing behind a glass window, and all I can do is press my hand against it to feel the warmth of the sun. A shadow, a fraction of the real thing."

"You aren't alone, dummy! You have me." The bony hand frees itself from the leather grip and smacks the other figure on its shoulder. "And for every good deed you do, do you not make friends? Do you not see how they come to you? Call for you? Need you?"

"A useful tool, is what I feel like sometimes. But yes, I understand. Perhaps I am still blinded."

"No, not blinded. It's been the same since you were a child, and I've tried for so long to get you to see how you are wrong. If not with words, then with actions. You think you are unlovable. That is your greatest sin."

I would agree that we may not get the traditional happy ending for this drama, and I think that's ok. From the beginning, I've been expecting a bittersweet or melencholic ending, but I think the most important thing is that each of the characters get their liberation. That's been their goals since the beginning, and their liberation may not be what we expected it to be. Gijeong said she wanted somebody to love or cut her hair, and though she now has Taehun she cut her hair shorter, which has been a symbol of her hardships since episode 1. personally, I think she's gonna leave Taehun, I don't hate them together but they don't have a good start to their relationship with his family situation. maybe her liberation will be learning to be independent and comfortable with her singleness/growing older especially with her conversation with that older woman at the restaurant, and her convo with her widowed friend who expressed she didn't hate living alone.

For Mijeong and Gu it's a bit harder to say, since both of them are each other's liberation. However my theory is that they will part ways but stay friendly and continue to be fond of each other, since they both helped each other and found each other when they needed the other the most, and now they are in better places. For Gu, Sanpo was his liberation and his job there, but for Mijeong she was fettered to it (and I don't think she wants to become like her mom). Mijeong seems to be doing better in the city and at a better job, whereas Gu is slowly breaking away from his city life and tiring job. Also, there is the point of his alcoholism, which he is seeking to conquer. I don't think he wants to hurt her, and that was the point of the ending scenes where he says that he'll end it when it's time. His liberation was that Mijeong made him want to become a better person, and he inspired her to be more confident in who she was.

Idk these are just my thoughts. With the writing of the show, I'm super excited to see how they'll end it and even if I'm completely wrong I'll be satisfied!

yeah this is how i see it too actually. like just the whole vibe and tone of the show does not make me think we will get sunshine and rainbows at the end. though it will be pretty difficult to land this type of drama smoothly so that everyone can be satisfied with it. i trust the writer and i just really want the characters to find liberation at the end, that's it.

i want the drama to have that ultimate message of 'i know you're feeling stuck, i am stuck too. we are one. but it's okay. we are not alone and it will get better. things won't stop being shit but you will get through it and i wish you all the best'

you got some pretty specific vibes you're looking for there but i'd say give Seaside a try, tbh i think they're only on youtube so you might be best to search for "seaside - a sign" (my fav song from them, and then go to thier channel from there. Other than them, Sleeping at Last is GOAT for those melencholic but hopeful vibes, exept Saturn, which is just soul crushing in the best way

Elyse has not known for that long, less than a year. She stopped falling rocks from harming one of her college friends while they were out on a hike. It was a reflex, she hadn’t known anything would happen. She kept it hidden from her very outspokenly anti-mutant family until the story of what had happened on that hike got out and they put two-and-two together. She fled that night.

Does your character have any physical giveaways that they are a mutant? I.E. Mystique’s blue skin. 

Not usually, she is human passing, except for when she gets a cut. Instead of scabbing a stone layer forms over it to protect her from more harm.
