The other night I had some free time and so I went on the IBDB (Internet Broadway Database) and calculated the following statistics:
There have been 41 productions of Stephen Sondheim musicals on Broadway, 25 productions of Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals, and 20 productions of Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals.
However, there have only been 13,860 performances of Sondheim shows compared to 15,656 performances for R&H and 30,328 performances of ALW shows, with 13,981 being from The Phantom of the Opera alone.
On average, Sondheim musicals have ran for 338 performances on Broadway, R&H musicals last 626 performances on average, and ALW musicals last 1516 performances on average, but if you remove Phantom then ALW's performance average lowers to 860.
ALW and R&H both have had 4 productions run 1,000+ performances, while Sondheim has had 0. By contrast, Sondheim has had 7 productions run less than 100 performances, while ALW has 3 and R&H 1.
ALW's longest running show is Phantom, Sondheim's is the OG production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (964 performances), and R&H's is the OG Oklahoma! (2,212).
ALW's shortest running show is By Jeeves (73), Sondheim's is Anyone Can Whistle (9), and R&H's is the 1949 revival of Carousel (32).
The following disclaimers:
I did not count revues or the short New York City Center productions from the 60s that are listed on IBDB. I counted shows where Sondheim only wrote the lyrics (such as West Side Story), but I did not count shows where he only wrote additional music or lyrics (such as Candide). I only counted shows that Rodgers and Hammerstein did together, and not those that either of them worked on individually.

Queen Camilla’s Patronages
The Carmarthen Youth Opera (Patron from 07.06.2010)
When the late Elizabeth Evans, MBE, joined the Furnace Gardens Further Education Centre as a youth leader, her passion for opera inspired her to channel the boundless energies of her young charges into putting on a show. In 1979 “Snow White” received glowing plaudits from both cast and the audience alike. This was the catalyst that inspired Elizabeth and her dedicated team of volunteers to form the Carmarthen Youth Opera the following year. The Education Centre thus became the Youth Opera’s first home. The annual productions continued to grow from strength to strength and in 1987 the company moved into and re-opened the Lyric Theatre in King Street, Carmarthen. It was transformed into the truly glorious theatre that is enjoyed by so many today. The Youth Opera continued to grow at pace, with the company making appearances at the London Palladium, Buxton Opera House and receiving curtain calls galore at the Waterford Music Festival. BBC Wales Television broadcast a documentary of the company’s redevelopment of the Lyric Theatre including the unforgettable production of “Jesus Christ Superstar”, performed in the most fitting setting of St. David’s Cathedral in Pembrokeshire. Many members of the company have gone on to become professionals in TV, Radio, Musical Theatre and Opera; the roll of honour includes well known names such as Mike Doyle , Mark Evans, Wynne Evans, Stephen Elias and Karen Evans. As well as developing the acting and singing talents of members, many have gone on to become successful stage managers, lighting and sound engineers, costume managers, script writers and even artistic directors. Following the retirement of Elizabeth Evans in 2005, Adrian Wyn Rowlands, an accomplished actor, singer and member of the company since 1982, took over the reigns as Artistic Director. Since then the Youth Opera has continued to achieve new heights of excellence; the Lyric resounding to wonderful performances of ‘Singin’ in the Rain’, ‘Oliver!’ and ‘The King and I”, with this year’s “Carousel” awarded the NODA Wales & Northern Ireland Region Best Youth Production, plus the Best Poster Award. In addition to the regular annual production, members of the company undertake a wide variety of performances throughout the year. The young cast’s virtuoso is displayed at fund-raising cabarets and charity concerts, including light entertainment at the prestigious opening of commercial enterprises. The cast are regularly given the opportunity to develop their talents at theatrical workshops and take part in an annual series of short-film productions in partnership with other youth companies in South Wales and in association with HTV Wales and various sponsoring bodies which include Carmarthenshire County Council.

Art Mania: Red Velvet's "Feel My Rhythm" by mera
Video Transcript by CCKN is under the cut
[0:00] Theater kids are going to be manifesting in my house tonight, huh?
[0:03] Red Velvet are my go-to group for creativity
[0:06] and I am in love with the melange of
[0:08] intense and varying art inspirations in “Feel My Rhythm”.
[0:11] This era includes references to different styles of illustration and drama,
[0:16] portraiture and painting, architecture and fashion, music and dance.
[0:20] K-Pop has a few notable ballet concepts,
[0:21] but I love this provocative ballet
[0:24] and references to the psychedelic theater.
[0:26] Costuming, effects, set design, movement,
[0:28] even the lyrics paint this picture of art
[0:30] colliding in a euphoric mania.
[0:33] I love songs that celebrate music
[0:35] and this release has it lyrically, sonically, and visually.
[0:38] Soaring between classic violin, dance pop beats, and the rattling metal
[0:42] of a carousel,
[0:43] “Feel My Rhythm” is sweet like a “Velvet” title and
[0:46] vibrant like a live performance of “Masquerade” from Phantom of the Opera.
[0:49] I love the second couplet of the chorus where the members trickle down their vocals in a ribbon as
[0:53] as the wave of violins and viola rolls to the front.
[0:56] The song ends a little suddenly like a music box snapping shut,
[1:00] rather than winding down
[1:01] but I love the fragrant vocals and the contrasting musical influences.
[1:05] Elegant orchestral strings, bursts of carnival game beats,
[1:08] and lofty vocals suddenly buckling down into chants and talk singing.
[1:12] “Feel My Rhythm” is surprisingly bracing,
[1:14] shiny black spikes poking through lace,
[1:17] frosted all over with Bach’s “Air for G-String”.
[1:19] “Feel My Rhythm” speaks of music as if it were bottled and personified into five women,
[1:24] five muses of art, each with her own season and stage.
[1:28] The lyrics and arrangement never stay still for too long.
[1:31] The members seem to trade dialogue and rebuttals from the constant switch-ups,
[1:35] and then suddenly ride into the heavens as one.
[1:37] At parts they stare into the audience as one Greek chorus and at others they're training secrets
[1:41] or cutting each other off with interjections,
[1:44] a lot like play characters and a massive ensemble song putting in their own perspectives.
[1:49] In my mind there are a handful of songs that deserve to be openings for pop musicals
[1:53] like “After School” by Weeekly
[1:55] where everyone gets a personal actionable line that builds into a big centerpiece.
[1:59] “Feel My Rhythm” feels like a one-thirds mark threshold song,
[2:03] where the play invites you, the audience,
[2:05] to leave the known world behind and enter the story.
[2:07] I'm always a little on the fence when it comes to K-Pop sampling classic orchestral pieces.
[2:12] Sometimes you get a really over-starch song like “Hands Up” by Cherry Bullet
[2:17] but I think “Feel My Rhythm” uses “Air For G[-string]” more like perfume than costume
[2:21] and it works in their favor
[2:22] “Feel My Rhythm” has some just classic Red Velvet moments
[2:25] a lot of moments both visually and
[2:27] musically reminded me of “Cool Hot Sweet Love” or “Cool World”
[2:31] These creamy, sensual, emotional touches that Red Velvet does really well.
[2:35] We haven't seen them do black box dancing since like “Automatic”.
[2:38] The video also has these classic collage pop scenes,
[2:42] these extremely cinematic death of glamour scenes,
[2:44] and a good blue jeans moment.
[2:47] And I think it works because this song is about the manic collision of art into celebration.
[2:52] I love art that celebrates art,
[2:53] I'm a huge sucker for it,
[2:55] and when you put Red Velvet vocals on it, you're gonna make me happy.
[2:58] After listening to the album three times,
[3:00] here is my initial ranking of the songs
[3:02] according to my preference.
[3:03] Number one: “Bambaleo”.
[3:05] I am in love with this super sweet, falsed-out chorus.
[3:10] “Bambaleo” is the song that evolved the most the more I listen to it.
[3:13] You start in the city with the quiet synth and funk
[3:16] but as you drive out into the night, a spotlight from outer space
[3:19] begins to lift you up into the sky.
[3:21] Parts of the song suggests some sort of vacation to paradise
[3:25] but the synth scratch adds some pulp from b-sides like “Look”.
[3:28] The cocktail of cocaine-high singing, psyched-out soundscapes, and retro dance in the middle of it all,
[3:34] feels like drinking distilled hallucinogens,
[3:36] but in a nice way, I really love it.
[3:38] Number two: “Beg For Me”.
[3:40] Whooo, baby!
[3:42] A Red Velvet b-side in the taste of Irene and Seulgi's Monster album.
[3:45] Absolutely delicious.
[3:47] “Beg For Me” starts as this very low menacing club song
[3:51] that breaks into a red demanding mantra.
[3:54] They are yelling at you about the good vibes,
[3:56] it's a little scary at points.
[3:58] I see this played in a vampire club right after you've been bitten
[4:02] and there's venom in your bloodstream,
[4:04] and the club matriarchs are like floating around,
[4:06] reminding everyone what an intoxicating time you're having.
[4:09] I love the tagline “dance for me, work for me, beg for me”
[4:12] and a vocal howl at the moon.
[4:15] This album has a lot of surprising tasteful talk sections.
[4:18] Number three: “Feel My Rhythm”.
[4:20] The chugging mechanical daydream sounds from “Zimzalabim”
[4:23] have been repurposed into something more musical
[4:25] but equally psychoactive.
[4:27] “Feel My Rhythm” has these rising sweet vocals,
[4:30] like braces of a cathedral rising up to a point.
[4:33] I really enjoyed the lyrics on this track.
[4:35] It's a love song, but it's not to a lover.
[4:37] It’s to music and the places where music touches other art forms,
[4:41] or in this case where arts are piled on top of each other with rapture.
[4:45] Number four: “In My Dreams”.
[4:47] Killing Eve's song,
[4:49] change my mind.
[4:50] Tell me this doesn't make you think of the two of them.
[4:52] I love the quiet patter of beat,
[4:54] and the high dots of notes
[4:56] as the song slowly dissolves into symbols and desperate singing.
[4:59] “In my dreams, you love me back”.
[5:02] It's a little too early my time to be having these emotions
[5:05] but I love how the chorus kind of bursts out of the speaker
[5:08] but then she loses her courage and has to deal with the words in the room.
[5:12] Number five: “Good, Bad, (and) Ugly”.
[5:14] Mapled and starched like an old photo,
[5:17] “Good, Bad, (and) Ugly” has a spotty rainy ambiance in the background
[5:20] that reminds me of phonographs and classy umbrellas.
[5:23] “Good, Bad, (and) Ugly” falls into that subcategory of Red Velvet b-sides that
[5:27] that play in film noir band bars.
[5:29] It's a little bit of a cafe song,
[5:31] and a little bit of draping yourself over the piano,
[5:33] and stealing the pianist's fancy black hat
[5:36] while you sing about your tragic but passionate love life.
[5:38] Okay, okay, apparently that is the description
[5:41] that I wrote for this song when I was listening to it.
[5:43] It's too late to change it at this point, whatever.
[5:46] And number six: “Rainbow Halo”.
[5:48] I appreciate the brass inclusion at the end,
[5:50] but I feel this song is a little too repetitive for my tastes.
[5:53] It's got some great moments but
[5:54] I feel I would like zone out way too easily
[5:57] while listening to the song and forget that I left the stove on.
[5:59] I really love how this era is soaked in art
[6:01] and the kaleidoscope of musical influences all over the album,
[6:05] let alone the single.
[6:07] There's so much passion for each medium,
[6:09] and you can tell that each crew member was like really excited to
[6:11] reference their favorite piece of art in the video.
[6:14] I might do a follow-up video
[6:15] specifically about each member's solo scenes
[6:18] because I think there's a ton to talk about there
[6:20] but for now I'd like to know what you thought of the era
[6:22] and what your favorite song off the album is.
[6:24] Okay, bye!

Personal Notes: This is probably one of the Red Velvet albums that I replay nonstop, also because my Spotify would always play the songs from this album on shuffle. I’m honestly surprised I haven’t gotten tired of Feel My Rhythm but it really is THAT song.
The album, The ReVe Festival 2022 - Feel My Rhythm, and the title track, Feel My Rhythm is available on YouTube, music streaming platforms, and to purchase as a digital or a physical album.

Together, they create a plan to resist its coming and to overthrow the power of the Church. As their plot proceeds, secrets Gretchen has hidden are discovered and Johann’s ambition is undermined by his own tormented mind. The Traveler urges the two forward and their dysfunctions entangle, leading to disaster for all.

Spotify top 100 songs, a lyric from each song
One lyric from each song on my spotify top 100 songs of 2019 list for use as sentence starters. 40% of this list is opera and lyric-less classical music which has limited this meme to about sixty prompts.
Why do I follow you and where do you go?
I must work on my mind
She’s a protester
When I was five, I fell in love. It didn’t last
There are pies on the carousel, have a slice
I’ll never fall in love
Birds fall from the window ledge above mine, then they flap their wings at the last second
Tear the promise from my heart
Once upon a time I had fate in my hands and the confidence of a million regimes.
Boys give it up without a fight
I didn’t know if I would live or die
This will be our year, took a long time to come
Now the battle is on
Just look around and tell me what you see
You need to straighten your posture and suck in your gut
It feels like a long time since I was free
Don’t look down
I smoke too but not as much as you
They would string you up gladly if they knew just how lazy you’d been
He never even made it to his twenties
Just because I’m human, they don’t want my help
We sat on our own star and we dreamed of the way we were, the way that we wanted to be
Everybody loves me baby, what’s the matter with you? Won’t you tell me, what did I do to offend you?
It seemed like he read my mind
There’s a war going on out there somewhere
Sometimes in the morning, I am petrified and can’t move. Awake but cannot open my eyes
Frankly, they’re all on my last nerve
I’m not trying to tempt you, that wouldn’t be right
Don’t lets be beastly to the Germans
well pull yourself together, keep calm carry on
We’ll I’ve been elected to rock your asses ‘till midnight
Don’t you think it’s time to swim to shore?
I was brought up in taffeta dresses and taught to be pretty and precious
I could never bring a life to an end
You know I’m helpless from your mesmerizing cat call
I came in from the outside, burnt out from a joyride
I’m telling it to your face so you don’t have in hear it in another place
Just enough money to buy some quality food
You’ll be judge on sight and made to fit
I know it don’t thrill you, I hope it don’t kill you
Some people say that a man’s made out of mud, a poor man’s made from muscle and blood
Love is a losing game
I love everybody because I love you
We’ll buy what we can afford
Let me teach you how to handle all the sorrow in your soul
I’m going to stab you in the eye with a foreign object
Why don’t my mother love me?!
I would say I’m sorry if I thought that it change your mind
Those evil natured robots, well they’re programmed to destroy us
This perfect moment will soon be leaving me
Take a breath, look around, swallow your pride
Oh the hours I had to spend, to master it in the end
I could have just flipped the sign, charged him anything, taken everything he’d got.
If there was someone you could live without, would you do so?
I’ll run naked in the street without my mask on
Come on you scamps, get up you sinners, you’re all too full of expensive dinners!
You’ve got trouble my friend
I heard they were looking for a saviour
It is ignorant hateful talk like yours which makes this world a place our boys could not live in
Don’t ask me questions, I’m frightened of questions
That’s what pretty boys should do

can you tell us your top few favourite queen songs and your top few favourite queen albums? please?
oh uhh !! Yes !!! thank you so much for asking!
a few of my favourite queen songs (in literally no particular order) (i sort of went off on this and ended up writing way too much i'm so sorry. you don't have to read all of it :')) (i would put some of it under "read more" but?? i cannot figure out how to do that???) :
" '39 " from " a night at the opera. " this is the song my url is taken from and was probably my first love from their discography. it isn't sung by freddie except on the rare occasion they sang it live (though fred does an AMAZING rendition in 1977 at earl's court. look it up, it's beautiful), but by brian may on the album. his voice is gentle and sweet and the song itself is just... so pretty. also !! it's about time travel and spacey-wacey stuff !!! set to a fun country/folk tune!! it's so good !!
" my melancholy blues " from " news of the world " is also definitely a fave. it's pretty much exactly what the title suggests, and is a really nice closer to what is overall a pretty heavy album
" the prophet song " also from " a night at the opera " is kind of like brian's " bohemian rhapsody " but it's two minutes longer and apparently about a prophetic dream that bri had at some point?? i don't know. it's long, has a weird acapella bit in the middle, and incredibly ominous lyrics. i love it.
" innuendo " from " innuendo " again with the ominous and vaguely threatening tone, but the lyrics are actually quite sweet and lovely. there's also a spanish guitar solo in the middle and an operatic section that shifts from speaker to speaker. if you're listening with ear buds, it's like being on a carousel that only plays opera. it's marvelous.
" bring back that leroy brown " from " sheer heart attack " . big 1930s jazz vibes. early queen is the good shit.
" crazy little thing called love " from " the game. " this song was in an episode of doctor who (i think it plays during amy and rory's wedding?? maybe???) and i've adored it ever since
" somebody to love " from " a day at the races " . because. obviously.
also " drowse " from " a day at the races " . i like roger's songs a lot, and his voice really showcases itself in this song. the lyrics are kind of.. meh... but the song itself is like... a 9. out of 10.
i didn't do any john deacon songs for this and honestly?? that's unacceptable and i feel horrible about it. anyway, " spread your wings " off of " news of the world " is a bop !! it also makes me cry but that's not important lol
ok. now for albums. i will spare you the lecture on why i like them so much and limit myself to just the names of my top 5. hopefully.
1. " the game " , 1980
2. " a day at the races " , 1976 (great summery album. especially long away n good old fashioned lover boy)
3. " news of the world " , 1977
4. " jazz " , 1978
5. " a kind of magic " , 1986
thank you, again, so much for asking !! this was a much needed distraction and i hope you aren't bothered by me... talking.. a lot. feel free to drop by n chat any time !

My Eurovision 2019 Ranking
Info: I grouped some lower places together, simply because I really dislike some songs and have no strong opinion on some others. This is basically five groups of songs I didn’t like or don’t care about too much and then a top sixteen ranking.
41 to 34) Songs I really, really don’t like at all.
Germany [S!sters - Sister] - This song actually isn’t that bad. It’s alright. I’m just mad that it won the national contest, because we had two much better songs competing - or at least I thought they were much better. I also think it’s a bit weird that they call themselves ‘Sisters’ even though they’ve only known each other for a few months (if I remember correctly)
Czech Republic [Lake Malawi - Friend Of A Friend] - I’m sure there’s a lot of people who really like this song, because they usually like the music that’s on the radio and such. I really dislike this song. It annoys me so much. I also dislike his talking-part a lot...also the high pitched voice in the chorus? I just really dislike everything about this, honestly. (Especially considering I loved Mikolas’ song last year.) The video is kinda cool, but that doesn’t matter live.
Slovenia [Zala Kralj & Gasper Santl - Sebi] - This will sound weird, but the music video looks like those russian meme-y ones. Apart from that, there’s not enough happening here for me. It’s straight up boring. Usually, I’m into songs sung in the native language, but...I guess this song has a message, but I don’t get it because I don’t speak Slovene, and therefore I’m left with a pretty boring song where I can’t even concentrate on the lyrics.
Denmark [Leonora - Love Is Forever] - First of all: why is she partly singing in French? (Language of love, and she’s also saying some stuff in other languages, I know - but still). Second of all: the way she’s looking at the camera for the first thirty seconds is making me incredibly uncomfortable. Third of all: It’s a pretty boring love song. Meh. The only thing I like is the fact that she’s sitting there next to a guy AND a girl, but I might just be interpreting a bit too much into that.
Moldova [Anna Odobescu - Stay] - This is the kind of song I’d turn off the radio for. The music video also has this very weird slow motion thing going on which is very distracting and very ridiculous. It makes no sense too - I’m speaking about the guy who leaves his turned on car here. What’s up with him. Oh, and the song is a break-up song, oh no. Her vocals are pretty nice, although there’s some parts near the end where she sounds very weird and I really dislike that.
Lithuania [Jurij Veklenko - Run With The Lions] - On the one hand, the song it pretty interesting. In theory. On the other hand, I really don’t like his voice? It sounds pretty strained on the high parts. And, after the chorus is over for the first time, I feel like the song loses it’s appeal. The first time, the pitch changes are interesting, but the second time, they just seem a bit...meh. I also don’t want to run with lions, as they tend to be kinda dangerous, but thank you anyway, Jurij.
North Macedonia [Tamara Todevska - Proud] - Listen, the message of the song is definitely something good. Doesn’t change the fact that I dislike the song though. There’s not a lot happening and I feel compared to the ‘epicness’ of the music, her voice is a bit...uninteresting. Don’t get me wrong, she has a good, strong voice, but I feel like it doesn’t really fit with the instrumental. I like the music video, because there’s definitely a lot of different women shown, but I’m unsure how she wants to show this live on stage. (The wind blowing is also a bit much for me.).
Montenegro [D mol - Heaven] - Nothing Montenegro does will ever be as good as Slavko in 2017 - other than that, it’s a love song. Yay. It’s pretty boring. I don’t really hate it, which is why it’s right at the bottom of this category, but I also can’t get myself to like it. Usually, I really love string instruments in modern songs, but the cello in this...sounds off to me. (I’m no musician, so I wouldn’t know for sure, but I personally just dislike it here).
33 and 32) Songs I dislike, but not passionately.
San Marino [Serhat - Say Na Na Na] - I’m always here for San Marino doing weird shit, but this is weird in all the wrong ways. Serhat and his accent are creeping me out, honestly. I also feel like he’s twenty years older than any woman in this video. I also feel like this song had potential, but it just straight up vanished sometime during the creative process. The lyrics are weird too, but I don’t hate it. I can listen to it...once.
Norway [KEiiNO - Spirit In The Sky] - Usually, this would be the kind of song I’d at least put in my Top 20, but there’s something about it I dislike. I can’t even pinpoint exactly what it is, I’m just not here for it.
31 to 26) Songs I don’t care about, in a negative way.
United Kingdom [Michael Rice - Bigger Than Us] - Oh, UK. Back with the generic songs I cannot like because I’m not a big fan of generic songs. It’s alright - his voice is nice, even though it feels like it’s lacking a bit during the chorus? It just sounds like the Instrumental is overpowering him a bit live. At this point, I have also seen the “#ScotlandIsNow”-Ad ten times and am fed up with the UK.
Serbia [Nevena Bozovic - Kruna] - It’s a ballad. Yay. Ballads are boring, I feel like everyone who isn’t the Jury can agree on that. She has a nice voice, which is why I don’t really mind the song - but I wouldn’t add it to my Spotify-Playlist.
Estonia [Victor Crone - Storm] - It’s a guy with medium length hair and a guitar! Hide your sons and daugthers! But in all seriousness, I don’t care about this song either. It’s something I’d hear in the radio and wouldn’t skip, but I would think “Yeah, I wouldn’t mind it to be over now, thanks.”.
Latvia [Carousel - That Night] - She sounds like a german actress whose name I can’t remember right now, that’s all I can think about. Well, apart from the fact that the songs feels pretty generic. To be honest, it sounds a bit like Eurovision 2014 (except for France, Armenia, Iceland (y’all, Pollapönk was so good) and Poland). Yeah.
Sweden [John Kundvik - Too Late For Love] - I like the Gospel-thing he has going on, but I don’t like the song itself. I’m just not a fan of songs where the pre-chorus is slower than the rest of the song when they immediately continue singing in the chorus? It’s weird to describe, but a lot of songs do this and I basically dislike all of them.
Croatia [Roko - The Dream] - I actually don’t like this song at all. But I love his goddamn wings, so I tolerate it. I’m a huge supporter of weird Eurovision and this is definitely what I needed this year. We always need someone in a weird costume. (Like vampire-opera-man from Romania in 2013.)
25 to 21) Songs I don’t care about, period.
Finland [Darude feat. Sebastian Rejman - Look Away] - I’m all here for the meme, but nothing more. The stage performance looks really cool, but I couldn’t care less about the song. There’s not much happening, and the drop is...lacking, at best.
Belgium [Eliot - Wake Up] - Catch me scroll through my phone during the whole duration of this song. It’s a good background noise, but I don’t particularly like it. I’m also still bitter Belgium didn’t win in 2015; they haven’t made it up to me yet when it comes to songs, and this one definitely doesn’t help either.
Austria [PAENDA - Limits] - There’s literally only one things I can say about this whole song: meh. (No, really, I have no feelings towards this song.)
Netherlands [Duncan Laurence - Arcade] - I like the floating-naked-underwater-aesthetic, but I don’t think he can do this live on stage... Song wise, I don’t really care - it’s somewhat nice - I like the start of the chorus, the short ‘boom’-moment, but that’s pretty much it.
Israel [Kobi Marimi - Home] - Okay, I’ll admit it’s hard to follow chicken dances and an absolute party on stage. But I don’t think a very slow song is the right choice. I definitely like his voice and he reminds me of someone so much, but I can’t think of the name. Generally, it’s pretty nice, but I wouldn’t vote for it.
20 to 17) Songs that are alright, but nothing more.
Belarus [ZENA - Like It] - It’s modern with a very very slight traditional touch, which I like, but the song doesn’t really go further for me. I feel like it should qualify for the final, but shouldn’t place high. At least it’s something modern...
Poland [Tulia - Fire of Love (Pali sie)] - It’s a bit weird, but I like it, I guess. I’m not sure if I like it, to be honest. I need to hear this one live. Depending on the live performance, this one could go up a few places or down a lot. It’s borderline annoying me, so it’s pretty hard actually judging this. I like the general sound of the song though. (There’s something about this music video that makes me feel a bit uncomfortable, but I don’t know what it is. Might just me being me.)
Georgia [Oto Nemsadze - Sul tsin iare] - He looks so grim, oh my god. I really like his voice, which is why he’s in this category, because I don’t really like the song all that much. It’s alright, definitely, and it might warm up to me - this type of song usually does - but currently I’m undecided.
Ireland [Sarah McTernan - 22] - It’s definitely alright. I mean, it’s still a love song, but most songs are, and at least this one has some things happening. The chorus is pretty catchy, although I was waiting for a bit more after the build-up.
16) Romania [Ester Peony - On A Sunday] - That music video is so confusing - when I first saw snippets from it, I thought it was a stage performance. The song itself is confusing me too - it’s weird, so I like it (like most songs from Romania, tbh) but it’s nearly a bit too much for me? I need to see this live, but so far, I’m optimistic about this one.
15) Greece [Katerine Duska - Better Love] - I’m so here for the aesthetic. I really like her voice, it has this slight twang to it that I really like. I like that it’s very obvious outside of the chorus, but absent during the chorus. It gives the song in itself a nice contrast. Generally, it’s not exciting enough for my Top 10, but I definitely like it.
14) Albania [Jonida Maliqi - Ktheju tokes] - She’s singing in her native language, which is always a big plus for me. The song is a bit creepy and it has something I always call “ancient”, because I can’t describe it better. It sounds like they might’ve sung it a while back, only with a modern twist. Which means I automatically like it. (It’s also giving me strong 1944 (the song) vibes, just putting this out there.)
13) Azerbaijan [Chingiz - Truth] - And here we have our second guy floating through the water. I’m noticing a theme here. Both video and song are really weird for me here, and I cannot quite place why I like this, but I do. I’m pretty sure this will drop a bit once I hear it live though - I feel like it will be hard to not be overpowered by the music with the high voice he’s singing in during the chorus. He might surprise me though, so I’m placing the song here.
12) Hungary [Joci Pápai - Az én apám] - I was really happy when I heard he’d return, and although I actually prefer his first Eurovision song to this one, this is by no means bad. It’s actually pretty good, I definitely enjoy it. Bonus points for native language yet again; also, his voice is amazing, but I knew that already. I really like the whistling part in this.
11) Cyprus [Tamta - Replay] - Cyprus realized that they did something right last year and are sending another fun party song. I liked Fuego more than this one, although they sound pretty similar. The beat in this is pretty great though. (I feel like the thing I really liked about Fuego was Eleni’s hair, a department in which Tamta can’t compete, but...oh well. She looks so good for 38 btw.)
TOP 10
10) Spain [Miki - La Venda] - Another fun song! You might notice I prefer these over the ballads a lot. This song really feels like summer - it basically sounds like Spain. I really like this for no deep reason - it’s just fun to listen to. Spain also deserves some love in Eurovision.
Tumblr media
9) Switzerland [Luca Hänni - She Got Me] - Okay, so, as a German, I know who Luca Hänni is. He’s the only singer I’ve heard something about before the competition. And I wasn’t expecting anything. But hey, our boy grew up, didn’t he? I like this song quite a bit, for some reason. I feel like it’s been on the radio over here before and I’ve been conditioned to like it, but I can live with that. I also like his suit. I want it. (I’m also a sucker for dance sequences, so if they put that into the live performance, I might even move this up a bit. I’m sold.).
Tumblr media
8) Portugal [Conan Osiris - Telemóveis] - Portugal thought: "Okay, we had a very heartfelt, serious song with minimal stage performance. We don’t want that anymore.” So they glued some spoons on a guys face, put him and his platonic male friend into feather suits and made them dance. As I said, I’m fully here for weird Eurovision, and I love traditional-ish songs, so I’m very into this. I actually really like the song, all jokes aside. This might actually be one of my Top Three stage performances. I just hope they qualify so I can see them in all their glory in the final. (Them and all their silverware.)
Tumblr media
7) Australia [Kate Miller-Heidke - Zero Gravity] - I have complicated feelings towards this song. It’s very clearly inspired by Estonias song last year - only that they made it more modern. I actually really enjoy the first two minutes of the song. If it was just that, I would’ve been inclined to put it in my Top Three. But then there’s the last minute. It’s way too many different voices and different music at once. I feel like it doesn’t quite fit. I’m still hoping they’ll fix that part for the semi-finals, because I really can’t stand it.
Tumblr media
6) Armenia [Srbuk - Walking Out] - This song is the kind of music I usually listen to in my free time, so I obviously like it. I’m also really into the aesthetic. I just feel like the chorus could’ve used a bit more drama. Especially a different “drop” - they already did the pause before it, they might as well commit to it fully. Otherwise, I really like this. (And damn, those trumpets(?) were made for me.)
Tumblr media
5) Malta [Michela - Chameleon] - I really have a soft spot for Malta. I’m just really glad to have a real party song among ballads and sad songs. I might be influenced by the music video here because I really like lyrics on screen by default, but we’ll see how this song sounds live. Depending on that, it might move down. (I feel like this will either do really well or really bad though.)
Tumblr media
4) Russia  [Sergey Lazarev - Scream] - Okay, I loved his song back in 2016, so I am, again, biased, but I like it. It’s not quite as catchy as some of his other songs, but his voice sounds really good in this. I also really hope they will incorporate the imagery from the music video into the live performance, because it’s really nice.
Tumblr media
3)  France [Bilal Hassani - Roi] - At first, I didn’t like this song at all, but it really warmed up to me. He has a nice voice - I only hope he can fully show it live, because I already felt that the music video version sounded a lot better than the live version I saw. But the chorus of this song is stuck in my head. I also love the mixture of English and French - especially because it’s full sentences in both languages, and not only single words. (I can’t stand that.). I’m probably biased here because I speak French, so I understand everything (as opposed to the Slovene song for example) but...damn, I really like this song. (It took me really long to realize that his hair was a wig, by the way. I just thought he naturally had Jeffree Star hair.)
Tumblr media
2) Iceland [Hatari - Hatrið mun sigra] - I can’t really explain myself here. This song is absolute madness and I’d be surprised if it survived through the semi-final. But they might surprise us and do what Lordi did before them. Honestly, it’s really refreshing Eurovision-wise and I’m so here for the Icelandic-metal-screaming. And yes, it’s another aesthetic-thing here. I just can’t help myself. (I’m also hearing “Aufstehen” in the end and I’m just wondering if that means “Stand up” in Icelandic...)
Tumblr media
1) Italy [Mahmood - Soldi] - Honestly, Mahmood has no contest for me. This song is everything I ever wanted and more. It’s way too good for Eurovision, if that makes sense. There’s just nothing that bothers me about this song. The chorus sounds so incredibly good and the live vocals I heard from him sound so stable? I really hope they won’t do Italy dirty like they did with Occidentali’s Karma. This song is just way too good to go to waste on lower places. Did I mention I absolutely love this song? Oh, and native language bonus, of course! As if I could love this song any more.

One of my favorite details of @wbworldad is the beautiful Cartoon Junction Carousel, built by @thecarouselworks in Mansfield, Ohio. - In addition to the incredible menagerie of hand-crafted wood characters, this has a detail typical of most classic carousels: a series of decorative "follies" that encircle the canopy, each illustrating a different story moment, all relating to an overall narrative. These story vignettes are usually mythic or classical in nature; Disneyland's carousel, for instance, shows motifs from Sleeping Beauty. - Our challenge was twofold. First, our park was an actual living, breathing small town where all of the characters "live, work and play". Secondly, we had to combine characters from Looney Tunes, Hanna-Barbera, and Tom & Jerry together. - Our story conceit is that the carousel was built by the city of Cartoon Junction as a jewel in the center of the town square park, and that the illustrative folly motifs celebrate the inspiration behind all storytelling and art: the Nine Muses. - Bugs Bunny as Urania (Astronomy) Marvin the Martian (with K-9) as Cleo (History) Tom Cat as Erato (Lyric Poetry) Jerry Mouse as Terpischore (Dance) Wile E. Coyote as Melpomene (Tragedy) Road Runner as Thalia (Comedy) Tweety Bird (with Sylvester) as Polyhymnia (Hymns) Scooby-Doo as Calliope (Epic Poetry) Elmer Fudd as Euterpe (Music) atop the canopy - These are all original illustrations made in-house at Thinkwell, illustrated by Kevin Chi Ya Kuan, with Carousel art direction by Alexandra Dunn and Taylor Goodrich and supervision by our creative partners at Warner Bros. Consumer Products. - Also: all carousels must have at least one white horse, and the most well-known and lovely horse in the Warner Bros Animation stable is the chubby white pony with a pink mane from "What's Opera, Doc?" -- aka Grane from Norse mythology, the noble steed who carries Brünhilde (Bugs). The Thinkwell artists and Carousel Works sculptors rendered her porty prance so perfectly, so she is my favorite. (at Warner Bros. Tony Awards Thoughts
So it looks like, at least for now, the CBS website lets you watch it for free (at least in the US). Here are my thoughts using those time stamps (be warned I have a long running commentary)
0:23 Oh is this going to be a parody of her playing the piano on last year’s Tony’s
1:05 How has neither one of them won anything? I mean I get if they said neither one of them one a Tony cause I mean, they both did shows that one time…but anything?
1:18 Is there anything more Broadway than saying the same rehearsed thing at the same time and pretending it was just part of the banter? Oh theater tropes I love you
1:36 That’s always been something that bothered me, people assume that just because something didn’t win the Tony doesn’t mean its not a great show, and the show that wins might not even be the best one that season (you know who you are). I love the Tony’s but its an award show, people don’t stop watching tv shows and movies or listening to artists that didn’t win or weren’t nominated, it makes me sad that so many shows close post Tony’s just because they weren’t the big winner. Anyways…
1:53 THEY CELEBRATED THE LOSERS LIKE ME, these A list celebrities that are totally not losers are soooo relatable ;)
2:40 A few years ago Something Rotten did what I thought was a brilliant advertising campaign listing amazing shows that lost the Tonys like them, so the fact that it was put into song gave me a fond flashback. See? SEE??? Oh it feels so good to be vindicated on tv
3:49 “If you make art at all your a part of the cure” :)
4:10 THEY HAD THE ENSEMBLE MEMBERS BE THE ONES IN THE OPENING NUMBER RATHER THAN THE LEADS THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY. If only my high school self could have seen this she would have felt so much better
6:42 I didn’t see any of the plays this year but I heard the most about Angels in America this season so not surprised. Looks interesting
7:45 Happy Pride Month
8:40 Bake a cake for everyone who wants a cake to be baked would actually be a pretty good diction warmup
14:10 Kinda surprised that they didn’t pick Rather Be Me or Apex Predator considering those are the really marketed songs. “Where We Belong” seems a lot like “Status Quo” from High School Musical. I mean you’ll get that about high school clicks in the lunch room with a blond queen bee but like, even the dance moves felt similar, and the lunch tray dancing, even the giant cat decal. But like, it's not as catchy? I didn’t expect them to win anything tonight but I really don’t think they’ll win anything now? Is that mean? Just cause it feels like it was supposed to be a high energy number and it didn’t have that energy I thought it would. Also come on, just cause you want the girls to be shallow and dumb doesn’t mean the lyrics have to be that cringey. This feels like a less good version of if Legally Blonde and High School Musical had a baby (I absolutely love Legally Blonde that was not intended to be an insult to either show).
15:00 Is it me or did Amy Schumer look like she wanted to say something but Rachel Bloom kept talking. But it didn’t really have any joke setup or serve as a good segway for commentary, what could she have wanted to say?
15:35 Later on I’m going to see if I can find the award speeches that didn’t get televised. most of the world doesn’t get broadway they get regional theater, I wanted to hear what they had to say
15:45 Nick Scandalious feels like a cartoon name you’d see in an Onion article about the Me Too movement. His face even looks like the generic celebrity that had a TMZ scandal five years ago. I thought I read it wrong at first lol
16:40 I was cracking up they know their brand so well. The air quotes on emotional, perfect!
17:10 Mini Sara and Josh are so cute!
17:50 Ok I missed the reference, what is the giant bird lady from?
18:10 oh
20:57 celebrity child picture counter: #3 Amy Schumer. Also guess which year the musical described as “a comedy about class and sexism” is from? Yup it’s My Fair Lady, the audience laughed like I did in that sort of this is funny but also sad kinda way
26:00 This was so overacted and hammy and one day I aspire to that level of loud printed robes. Coincidentally my name is also spelled like Eliza but my voice is not nearly that good. Also does it count as drag if they are clearly men in dresses with some comical makeup or is there another name for it when they aren’t actually trying to look feminine?
26:18 The twitter usernames were too small to see on my screen who were the twitter pictures of?
26:30 See above comment
27:00 What show did Billy Joel work on? Also Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, and Josh Groban maybe my mom will finally enjoy theater
29:12 Oh my gosh that picture of Titus Burgess is amazing as is that suit. And that intro is so Titus its great
30:07 Renee Fleming we’ve got the Opera world here too? It’s so many famous musicians from outside broadway on broadway, think of all the crossovers
32:50: Yes spongebob get Josh Groban to sing more thank you for your service. Ok I’m not a huge fan of spongebob but they have to win for sound design that guy is on overload
33:27 Lol it explains so much why the songs sound disjointed cause they got a billion people to write them. Also lol I was waiting for that joke
33:50 Also what I thought would happen would be a medley that way Spongebob who really is the driving energy of the show and Squidward played by the Broadway darling would both have a song. This wasn’t how I expected them to do it, but I was sort of right so I’ll count it. I’m not really a fan of Spongebob the musical (I’ve listened to it twice once when it first came out and once during Tony Season. I’m not one of the people who hate it off the sheer premise and won’t give it a chance, but I just thought it was meh and not worth having the most nominations.) But Squidward’s song is very me, not in terms of melody cause that is I find most of the melodies to be rather generic but the lyrics are 100% me trying to convince myself. Also all I will be thinking about for the rest of the will be what tap dancing must feel like its gotta feel weird how long do you think he spent practicing it with and without the extra legs. Or it might be nightmare fuel with the sea anemone contributing to it, who knows? Probably both,
38:07 still don’t know whose handles those are
38:28 ^^^
38:40 Ok when I saw the outfits I was expecting a Chorus Line Parody, but this Sia parody fits this every genre but musical theater theme of this Broadway season
39:20 Eight times a week, and all the subsequent puns
40:28 Can I just say I love this return to singing interludes over awkward award show banter?
41:44 I saw the Bands Visit a few month’s back and I still don’t know how to describe it. Normally I would guess it would be the second fiddle of the Tony’s but considering the “purists” it’ll probably win most of the awards
44:16 With all the previous reaction shots you knew it had to be Nathan Lane. I always forget how well spoken he is because of his typical roles but he is really well spoken and sincere rather than trying to wise crack and it was so sweet. It made me smile
47:43 His face saying “blow high” has got to be a gif right?
51:45 The entirety of the Carousel number was me thinking if I had a higher sex drive this would totally make me thirsty. They also used very creative ways to physically embody the shape and workings of a ship but then again I’m admittedly biased. Listen to that number you know their vocal prowess was not why they picked it
52:12 I mean, I know that crew gets less attention than cast and plays less attention than musicals but I would watch the full version stop cutting out the speeches. C’mon I love costumes
53:04 I know your joking but that hurts
53:19 yes #4 famous kid photo Uzo Aduba
55:49 Ari'el Stachel’s speech is made all the more poignant when you realize everyone else in his category were white. Despite this season’s commerciality you actually do have shows and casts with Asian leads and African American leads and Latin American leads and Middle Eastern leads somewhere between the sea of shows like Spongebob and Frozen. Show these shows some love, prove that Hamilton wasn’t the anomaly but the rule
56:55 They brought the Parkland teacher for the theater education award! Fitting 65 students into a high school teacher’s office for hours to protect them is not easy, she saved lives that day
58:17 I thought #5 Matthew Morrison was a girl in his child pic
58:40 They went to Parkland?!
59:35 OMG they’re performing!?!
1:00:10 Seasons of Love is the Perfect song for this, they sound so good too!
1:01:18 Girl has an amazing voice! Dang to get up there in front of all of these famous performers on live TV after the media has already hounded them and putting yourself out there is courageous
1:02:45 I can’t see the handles
1:03:11 Will they be able to top NPH’s Tony magic trick though??? Probably not but let’s see
1:03:31 So cheesy but tbh if I had a Harry Potter wand I’d be even cheesier
1:03:46 Was that line improved or was the tech delay intentional?
1:04:22 C’mon Squidward already pulled the same “trick” you have ensemble block the audience pov while someone enters from the back. Didn’t even come close to topping NPH
1:04:43 Little Patti Lupone I can’t believe she allowed them to include her picture of lil’ Patti
1:05:04 I just wanted to include Patti’s line about a “deep appreciation for outspoken women” cause I actually said “you go girl” out loud
1:05:35 Yeah, fun fact, Tony wasn’t a man but was actually short for Antoinette. They referenced it multiple times before, including earlier tonight, but it was stated most explicitly here
1:06:35 Is that a young or modern Claire Danes, I can’t tell
1:07:39 Also it’s really cool that an older woman won something, I feel like the stage gives more roles for older woman that other acting industries, also if people argue that she was political she served political office. Also how cool is it that apparently people were there from every recognized country?
1:09:27 so that’s how they do Sven, I knew Olaf was supposed to be an Avenue Q style puppet but the way they move Sven is really cool (it’s the technique they used on things like War Horse, I don’t know if it’s considered costuming or puppetry or what the official name is)
1:10:20 Anna looks exactly as I pictured her, and they changed a few minor lyrics for it to fit the stage
1:10:44 There are so many quick changes tonight
1:11:22 Elsa did not look like what I imagined her to be, but the costumes are on point
1:12:00 The chorus versions of these songs have beautiful harmony, but Olaf shouldn’t be there yet right? Isn’t he “born” in Let it Go
1:12:47 Alright I’ve been waiting to see how they’ll do the snow effects!
1:14:00 They got out of building the castle by already having it built at the beginning of the song, which is smart technically but I wanted to see how they do it, unless it’s one of those things that’s a surprise for when you see it live.
1:14:25 Never call it “Daddy’s Day” ever again. Never.
1:14:46 I can’t see the handles
1:14:59 How could you not show Chita Rivera’s lifetime achievement? I’ve been lucky enough to see her in more than one show and she is incredible.
1:15:13 And you also cut out Andrew Lloyd Webber’s?? You made the wrong cuts Broadway
1:15:25 It looks like they’re going to show a tribute I’m excited!!!
1:17:42 Two things: Andrew Lloyd Webber has written a weird collection of musicals, like when you see clips of them back to back you realize just how weird of a collection it is, and Josh Groban needs to be the next Phantom
1:18:08 That exchange was so physically awkward they haven’t even started talking yet and I feel the cringe
1:19:18 Is “I swore I’d never do something like that” shade against the La La Land debacle? In 2018? Or am I reading too much into it
1:19:21 I saw the Band’s Visit but I also saw Once on this Island and I thought that one would win Direction for sure but I guess I was wrong
1:22:36 I read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, it’s a weird read, but I haven’t seen it live so maybe it’s directed brilliantly, who knows? Who else thinks its a weird read?
1:23:56 He’s getting the Tony audience to sing his boyfriend "Happy Birthday" instead of giving a speech and that is both adorably sweet and such a power move. Also a rare occasion of Happy Birthday being sung on key
1:25:10 They’re having DEH perform? You cut out people who actually were awarded tonight for people who already were featured on the Tony’s last year? And that song is a weird choice for a In Memoriam considering that show doesn’t really…respect the deceased. Weird
1:28:17 Give the tech more time in the limelight! You cut out Chita and Webber’s speeches for a weird tribute and you have weird stunts with tech like the magic thing yet cut out all their stage time. I know this is standard Tony procedure but it is something I will comment on every year until it changes
1:29:20 That move for “work hard for the money mom” line was uncomfortable
1:30:30 They really do sound like the original singer
1:31:53 So that’s how the performers follow the conductor. They have a huge teleprompter-like screen in the back of the audience
1:32:52 This cast seems specifically tailored to gather different subsections of internet geeks and I will not tell you which categories I fall into
1:33:18 I never knew “the Jimmy’s” were a thing when I was in high school
1:34:54 THOSE are the great themes of Harry Potter? Really?
1:36:10 Aww look at little Cinderella
1:36:34 How are they going to build that stage for the Tonys? They built a river inside the theater for it before!
1:37:00 Well it makes sense that they’d only include part of the set, you can’t really recreate an entire building. Yes I’m so glad they included Mama Will Provide. That song is like the definition of a Tony performance song. Why did they include the Daniel bit, that was so awkward and broke up the flow
1:40:40 If anyone would be chill with the goat it’s Nathan Lane. Yup, there a live goat at the Tony Awards
1:41:21 Don’t joke about that
1:41:41 Are you going to cut out every technical award
1:42:32 Too relatable
1:43:16 Is this that song from Chorus Line in real life
1:44:10 English Major life
1:46:03 The angel from Angels in America is so Extra TM
1:46:54 That Tony Kushner line was forced
1:47:18 Awkward segway but REMEMBER TO VOTE
1:47:38 That Judy Garland line ties in perfectly with the Happy Birthday to the gay couple
1:48:04 That reaction to the word “money” is me. And also is a gif right?
Am I so much of a Tony nerd that I both knew and was shocked that the accountants weren’t the normal ones from Ernst and Young but instead were from Grant Thorton. Why do I remember what company normally tallies the Tony votes? Why did they change companies? Why do I care so much? But seriously what happened
1:49:00 That phrase just sounded so odd, just the way it was said “my television Daddy-O Tony Shalhoub”
1:53:15 I don’t have the accent and I’m about as white as white can be, but I really want to perform this song somewhere at some point. I have family in this area even though I don’t look like I would but and I just connect to it. The melody is gorgeous and the chorus reminds me of the lullabies of when I was very little.
1:54:15 Every time the young photos come up it puts a small smile on my face
1:54:37 Good on them for putting their money where their mouth is. They actually helped fund arts programs in places where they were cut
1:55:05 I wonder what the rest of the scenic guy’s speech for Spongebob was because this tiny clip seemed so passionate (and just has such an interesting aesthetic). Gosh darn it Tonys stop pretending the only backstage people that count are the directors and producers, you have all these other people who put in so much hard work yet you consistently ignore them. Even orchestrations, choreography and score?? Orchestrations, choreography and score are crucial for musicals to exist as unique entities from plays. You make jokes about people sitting through 5 hour plays but I would gladly sit through a five hour award show if you just included the technical awards.
1:57:10 me trying to open anything ever
1:57:14 Yes! I was so worried they would go with the super old school ones that get constant revivals. I mean, they picked the show that had “1000 pounds of sand, a 100 gallons of water, a goat and 2 chickens into his theater” when you have safer, more conventional bets. Everyone kept sleeping on Once on this Island this Tony season to talk about their feelings about the Spongebob’s and Mean Girl’s of the world but this is such a good show. Maybe this’ll get this show the love it deserves.
1:59:30 what did Robert DeNiro say on the recording the sound cut out. Did the mic cut out did he say something inappropriate, I’ve been avoiding Tony news what happened?
1:59:55 It’s got more than just a big cast, dancing, and a history lesson. You know that applies to, idk like 60% of famous Broadway musicals lol
2:00:06 when someone gives that pregnant of a pause you gotta wonder what the story is there
2:00:27 Truth
2:00:40 “Jersey Boy” that’s such a good one liner, actually, it might sound sarcastic online but that was a funny one liner in context
2:03:00 Is Bruce Springsteen really going to just do spoken word poetry the whole time? Also I don’t know why but this makes me think of Fun Home
2:06:05 Oh he’s going to sing after all. Though that story is about as Americana Fourth of July as anything I’ve ever heard on the Tony Awards ever and that’s saying something
2:07:39: who are these people?
2:08:00 Didn’t Kristin Chenowitz and Alan Cumming do this exact same shtick when they hosted, what 2 years ago? And there’s was much bigger I mean really go big like that Glinda the Good dress or go home.
2:08:23 Was there really no punch line? Also aww baby Kelli O’Hara is precious
2:09:07 The actor’s name sounds like his character’s name and I enjoy that
2:09:39 Well these actors are very different from each other
2:11:28 I am a sucker for genuine sincerity and that combined with some of the earlier moments like the Parkland moment brought me close to tears
2:12:45 Look at this award shows actual diversity, and not just using one show for diversity and nominating a bunch of actors you have 3 out of 6 female leads be people of color and none of them are a “token” and they all support each other. Hailey Kilgore is so young and such a good actress and I wanted her to win so much but she seemed so excited for the person who did win and they all seem happy at the result you don’t have any of that polite loser face they are all genuinely supportive and this makes me happy. I’m happy, look at those smiles I’m smiling, I love it when they show women supporting each other.
12:14:06 “my stupid little heart with so much joy” is me watching these people tonight.
12:14:27 Still can’t identify these people
12:15:00 Josh Groban’s reaction to Bernadette Peter’s name is me. Honestly Josh Groban is killing the potential gif game tonight
I’m sorry I just can’t take this description of them as “empowering stories” seriously when half of your nominations are Spongebob and Mean Girls
2:16:10 Tonight the Band’s Visit really swept. Honestly some seasons shows don’t win any awards that deserved it and other seasons shows that (while still deserving) probably wouldn’t have won win and it’s all kind of arbitrary, but I’m glad out of this batch it won, it was really the only show out of the four that would have gotten the Tony Award ticket sales boost and it got it.
2:17:35 “Music gives people hope and makes borders disappear”
2:19:08 yes another Josh Groan duet!
2:19:25 I love Miss Peters too
2:20:44 This number made me smile, this whole night made me smile. I was worried I would get frustrated by the night with Spongebob and Frozen and Mean Girls and all the potential for it to be a cynical snark fest or a capitalist money grabber spectacular. There are about 10 billion ways I saw myself not liking this year’s Tony Awards before it started and not only am I relieved that I was wrong about the mood of the night but I am elated. I love me some deadpan humor and some snark but you rarely see one of these nights just wholly be genuine and not tongue and cheek and it was such a breath of fresh air. Even the hokey bits like the stupid magic jokes and banter or weaker songs like that Mean Girls number, because everything was in such a kindhearted atmosphere, didn’t feel as bad as they otherwise would have.
