there's a 2d-animated tv special based on the same source material (the house on east 88th street picture book by bernard waber) on hbo/hbo max that you might prefer! it basically tells the same story but abides more strictly to book canon (valenti isn't as major a character) and is still a musical, though obviously with different songs. the art style is exactly the same as the book, though, so it's quite charming!

i watched it ahead of the movie and really liked it so if you didn't love the live-action movie, you might like the special a bit more

The Lyle Lyle crocodile movie is really cute but I fell like it would have been infinitely more charming fully animated, especially with the cat being cgi in most scenes but live action in a select few.
