Bollywood Movies Part CXC: The Mollywood Takeover Part XXIX
When Chief Minister P. K. Ramdas (Sachin Khedekar) dies, he leaves behind five potential heirs: his daughter Priya (Mamta Mohandas) who is not active in politics, her husband Bimal “Bobby” Nair (Vivek Oberoi), P. K. Ramdas’s son Jethin (Tovino Thomas) who lives in the States, the current acting CM Mahesha Varma (Saikumar), and Stephen Nedumpally (Mohanlal) who only recently entered politics and has a checkered past. Bobby makes a grab for power by planning to funnel drugs into Kerala, while supporting Jethin becoming the face of P. K. Ramdas’s party.
TW for movie: drug use, noncon (offscreen). Lucifer is a fascinating movie about politics and a broken family. The story is never dull, and it draws you in even though some of the transitions are jarring. The actors are all excellent, but this film is really Mohanlal’s show. Favorite songs are Varika Varika and Empuraane. Neither song has subtitles.
Right before the Partition of India, Satya (Sonakshi Sinha) discovers she is dying. She arranges for Roop (Alia Bhatt) to join her household just outside Lahore, but Roop insists on becoming Satya’s husband Dev’s (Aditya Roy Kapur) second wife. Unhappy in Husnabad, Roop takes singing lessons from Bahar Begum (Madhuri Dixit) and begins a romance with blacksmith Zafar (Varun Dhawan) who has ulterior motives.
Kalank is beautiful and ostentatious, but is lackluster otherwise. The actors try with what they’re given, but the story lets them down. As a story about the tensions during the Partition, it is especially bad because it doesn’t try hard enough to put nuance into its portrayal of the events. Favorite songs are Ghar More Pardesiya, Aira Gaira, and Tabaah Ho Gaye. None of the songs have subtitles.
Days before fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming a pilot, Pallavi (Parvathy Thiruvothu) turns down her longtime boyfriend Govind’s (Asif Ali) offer of marriage. In retaliation, he attacks her with acid, compromising her vision and destroying her dream forever. As Pallavi learns to live with her scarring, she meets Vishal (Tovino Thomas) of Cloud 9 Airlines and challenges him to get her a job as an air hostess.
TW for movie: emotional abuse. Uyare is a poignant take on an abusive relationship and its aftermath, as well as the effects an acid attack can have. The whole story is extremely well written and believable, except for perhaps when Pallavi takes over when a pilot has a heart attack, which is the framing device for the movie. However, the film is still very enjoyable and a great watch. Parvathy shines in her role as Pallavi, but the other actors are also very good, especially Siddique as Pallavi’s father Raveendran. Favorite songs are Pathinettu Vayasilu and Kaatil Veezha. Neither song has subtitles.
#the great venture into Bollywood#becomes the great venture into malayalam cinema#lucifer is prithviraj sukumaran's directorial debut#in lucifer vivek oberoi was dubbed by vineeth#in kalank madhuri dixit was cast as a replacement for sridevi who passed away before she could film for it#making it 21 years since madhuri dixit and sanjay dutt last acted opposite each other#the cafe in pathinettu vayasilu exists in real life and is sheroes hangout in agra#if you can't tell my favorite of these is uyare

REVEALED: This Bollywood actor plays villain in Mohanlal’s next film
REVEALED: This Bollywood actor plays villain in Mohanlal’s next film
We last saw Vivek Oberoi playing the role of a powerful antagonist in the superhero drama Krrish 3 featuring Hrithik Roshan in a double role. The actor will once again return as a villain in an Indian film, albeit a Malayalam one. Vivek is all set to make his Malayalam debut with Lucifer that is directed by famous actor Prithviraj Sukumaran.
Vivek Oberoi is apparently essaying the negative role and Antony Perumbavoor made the announcement of the same on his social media platform wherein he also expressed his happiness of collaborating with the Bollywood actor. Besides him, the film will feature Mohanlal in the lead role. Lucifer will see Vivek Oberoi and Mohanlal reunite on the big screen together after the duo came together for Vivek’s Bollywood debut Company, directed by Ram Gopal Varma in 2002.
On the other hand, as mentioned before, the film will see Prithviraj Sukumaran, who was last seen in My Story, making his directorial debut. The film is expected to star Manju Warrier as the leading lady along with Saniya Iyyappan who is expected to essay the character of Mohanlal’s daughter.
Recently, the makers of Lucifer decided to give the audience a glimpse of the film by releasing a poster. Although no face features in this said poster, it has a person sitting in white mundu and the tagline used too looks quite intense. The poster says, ‘Blood, Brotherhood, Betrayal’ but not much has been revealed about this film.
Here is the 1st look Poster of #Lucifer

Along with the poster, the makers have also announced that the film is expected to go on floor on July 16, If reports are to be believed, the film will be shot extensively in Kuttikanam in Kerala and also a major schedule is said to be held in Mumbai. Lucifer is said to be scripted by Murali Gopi and the release date for the film is yet to be announced.
