#love this card in my Volo Commander deck!

Of the recent commanders, there’s two in my mind that stick out I’d love to make a short deck tech for. Had I been more involved in paper I’d absolutely build these.

Volo has such a snappy design. You’re essentially making your deck into a dnd monster manual cataloguing each creature type and avoiding repeats. He’s a fascinating exercise in deckbuilding. Paired with recent populate and simic token tech Volo can do a lot of varied strats within simic. I love any deck that can use Twinning Staff, and Clones can be used widely since they typically stop being shapeshifters after they hit the table. Add simic sac effects like Neoform, Eldritch Evolution to get more value. While you wont get the token copy you can use Eldritch Evolution on Reef Wurm to tutor out Esix.

What I love most about Florian is he’s balanced. No matter how much damage you deal he only nets you one card. I encourage you to add popular rakdos commanders like Rakdos Lord of Riots and Prosper since they have useful synergy. Passive life loss like Loyal Subordinate let you dig 6-9 cards a turn and lets be fair Florian loves loyal subs. Punisher effects can now get you card value, Browbeat becomes let me draw 3 or you take 5 and I dig 5. Sin Prodder gets especially spicy. And with Florian having First Strike he makes an excellent Basilisk Collar target that can go on to equip to other viable options like Tectonic Giant. Get your hands dirty and dig in deep to your opponents’ life totals.
