🎄 Under The Mistletoe 🎄
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Someone in Hellfire plays matchmaker between you and Eddie ❤️ Featuring mischievous Hellfire members, pesky mistletoe and lots of fluff 🎄
Going to open my requests for a little while so if you have any holiday requests then let me know. 💌
🎄❄️
There's a very good reason. Why the holiday season is a wonderful time. For a boy and girl to fall in love.
Cause Santa and Cupid, planned exactly what you did, When you kissed me by the mistletoe above.
We stood there kissin' by the mistletoe. Tingle, tingle. Muah, muah, muah, and away we go, jingle, jingle.
Kissin' by the mistletoe, love came to stay and now it's Christmas every day.
Aretha Franklin - Kissing by the mistletoe 🎄
❄️🎄
Christmas had arrived in Hawkins. The snow was falling casting in the town in an image of a perfect winter wonderland. All Eddie had heard for the last couple of days was festive tunes and jingles, he did like Christmas but this was a bit much.
He couldn't exactly say that he had the best Christmas growing up, when his mom was around it felt special to him, she adored Christmas and Eddie loved that it made her happy.
Then he was left with just his old man and those were the worst times, Uncle Wayne was his bubble of safety and normality then and now. Thanks to uncle Wayne his love of Christmas has returned slowly.
Did that mean he wanted to be driven crazy by hiliday tunes? No. Then there was his enemy of the season. Mistletoe.
All week he had seen giggly, kissing and loved up couples, they were driving him mad. It made him grumpy and twitchy and he avoided the cursed plant like the plague.
At least when he was in the drama club and safely ensconced in all things Hellfire Club related he could relax. He had spent some time earlier setting up for the campaign and it was a good one, a mini adventure which was Christmas themed of course and very exciting.
For a few hours he could be in total DM mode and nothing mistletoe related could happen...
🎄⛄
At five o'clock on the dot Dustin arrived with Lucas and Mike, then everyone else hurried in. Eddie ignores the way his heart skips a beat when he sees you.
"Gentlemen and ladies welcome to this special edition of Hellfire, where we can enjoy the delights of our new festive themed quest and avoid the evil plants of doom... I swear If I see one more hint of mistletoe I'll..."
"Eddie" you say softly and that captures his attention as you point up to the ceiling, he stops mid-rant and his eyes bug out as he sees the mistletoe hung above him. No. Jesus H Christ, no.
The mistletoe was directly above you and Eddie.
His eyes narrow and he looks around the room immediately suspicious, Jeff and Gareth are sniggering to themselves but stop at the look on his face.
"Who did this?" he hisses to the rest of the group and looks at each of them in turn. No one is owning up to putting the mistletoe there and that frustrates him even more because that dreaded thing wasn't there at any other point of the day.
It wasn't there when he was setting up earlier, no pesky mistletoe was in sight and yet now it was just casually hanging above his head, directly above his chair. "That wasn't here earlier, so one of you little shits did this" he snaps.
He could feel himself sweating as you peered up at him, fuck. It's not like he didn't want to kiss you, he really wanted to but he highly doubted that you wanted to kiss him. Why would you?
"We don't have to do this" he says to you, he would never want you to feel pressured into kissing him. He was going to kill (the character) of whoever did this in the most violent way possible.
"Eddie" the way you say his name makes his knees turn to jelly, his usual confidence and don't give a fuck attitude is long gone and now he's terrified.
You see Eddie was totally smitten with you but didn't realise you were equally smitten with him. Which is what brings us to mischievous elves (Hellfire members) plotting this escapade.
Then your lips meet his and he swears his brain short circuits just for a second, he melts into the kiss and then he's kissing you back and you let out a soft moan that goes straight to uh...places and he wants nothing more than to just keep kissing you.
"Ugh that's enough dude, gross" Mike groans and Eddie reluctantly pulls away from you, feels pleased with himself that your lips are all kiss bitten and your eyes mirroring his in complete lust and adoration.
"About time" Gareth sags in relief, now the two of you could stop tiptoeing around your feelings for one another. Eddie sends him a death glare but completely softens when you take his hand and lean across to whisper in his ear.
"We're totally doing more of that later" your gaze is full of need and a tiny bit of mischief and it may be the first time that Eddie has ever wanted to speed run through a campaign. He couldn't wait for later but for now he had to get into DM mode.
If only you would stop looking at him like that, all impish and beautiful then he might be able to concentrate.
While he's making moon eyes at you for a few seconds Dustin, Erica, Lucas and Mike huddle together and discreetly high five.
"Mission accomplished" Dustin beams until Erica frowns and lets out an exasperated huff. "Yeah sure, like you bunch of nerds could have done this without me" Lucas is about to argue but Erica stops him.
"Nope, don't say a word dumbass. I hung the mistletoe because I'm not afraid of Munson like you three are, so this is down to me" She takes a mini bow and leaves the three boys gawking at her as Eddie finally starts the session.

fighting games thoughts
so im writing this waiting for my bus to go to work but I just don't really have anyone to dump my current obsessions so I'm just gonna write here instead. a few months ago I stumbled upon a tiktok video of the game guilty gear strive, but I didn't pay much attention except the fact that the game had some really interesting characters. now, fighting games were always a part of my life, it was a way of connecting with my father since he really enjoyed them too, a few that really stood out in my childhood were killer instinct, mortal kombat (a bunch of them, but mainly the ps3 one),
street fighter, the teen titans game on the cartoon network website, anyway, I loved them. but sometime in my life I stopped playing them and forgot about it, I always saw people playing mortal kombat when the 10 released, and then when the 11 released, but it never sparkled the joy in my to play again (also this thing was expensive as fuck). a few weeks ago I stumbled upon guilty gear strive again on my tiktok, but this time since I'm working I actually have the founds to afford a game on steam lol. I looked it up about some fighting games and got interested in a few of them.. guitly gear strive, tekken 7 and street fighter 5 or 6. now, even though street fighter has some characters I really loved like chunli, cammy, menat, juri, vega, it didn't really sparked anything in me.. tekken at the time was a little strange to me since the game is in 3d and the characters kinda looked like the sims ngl, so the option i had was guilty gear strive, it had some characters I thought it looked cool like bridget, testament, i-no, axl, anji, zato-1, may, anyway, you get the point, the game was also in 2d, which was a little more comfortable to me since all the experience I had was in 2d games, it had a big community of people that could teach me and play with me, so I bought that, the expanded editions to be fancy~. the game is really fun, it has some really cool machanics and its making me see fighting games in a way I never did before, all I did before was smash as much buttons as I could and hope my opponent didn't smashed the buttons before me, but now I'm starting to understand the fundamentals.. blocking, punishing, countering, frame data and all of that, I'm not good by any means, actually I started the online part at floor 6 and now im in floor 3, but thats part of the process I guess.. the problem is, I didn't stopped searching about other fighting games, and that made me regret a bit not buying tekken 7, the community was a lot bigger, it had characters that looked cool but not in a supernatural way, in a normal fighting way, like xiaoyu, lili, leo, katarina, asuka, eddy, hwoarang, lee, zafina, anyway, the list was gigantic, so after a week of debating if I should buy tekken or not I bought it, yesterday.. I didn't had any time at all to play since im in the end of my semester and working everyday on the afternoon (I'm fucking exhausted).. (I did a pause on writing, this is two nights after I started), so.. like I said I bought tekken 7 to try out since the idea of playing was really cool, and it is really cool, but like I said I don't have any fucking time ri3848u83.. but my semester is now ending and im a little free, so I'm using this time that I have to play Yakuza 0 and guilty gear strive, today I started playing with milia rage and I'm kinda obsessed.. a woman that can fight with her hair? that's peak pop diva queer icon to me.. she's like madonna of fighting games tbh.. I'm now really invested in playing more games, I bought the Yakuza collection on gog cause it was extremely cheap and mortal kombat x + 11 at 90% discount, gotta make the pennies I got as a salary count, after that I wanna play resident evil, I used to play re4 with my cousin he was kinda obsessed so we would play a whole weekend of re4 and tony hawk's lol.. I also wanna play devil may cry which is I game I used to own but never played.. anyway I just wanted to dump all these ideas somewhere and thought maybe this is the most appropriate place? I guess..

Yandere Henry Creel (7/9)
Tumblr media
Word count ; 3.9k
*Edited.
I scooted back against the table. I was once again trapped in the old dream-version of the upside down. I’d memorized every inch of this place by now. And the vines seemed angrier than usual. They were writhing, and yet, none of them lashed out toward me. They remained in place, and the entire living room area was slimier than usual.
I gulped. Now that I knew it wasn’t Henry - I knew with certainty Henry would never hurt me, even if he was a vile monster -, I had to run. Whoever was the perpetrator had lulled me into a false sense of security, sucking the life out of me.
And I had a kid to protect. A life to live. Once upon a time, I would’ve been easy to coerce, but Jacob might as well been my own flesh and blood.
I gazed around at the windows. They were boarded up completely, covered by moldy wood and vines. But it was still an old house. That meant there was surely some silverware around. I crossed the hallway, just then noticing at the top of the stairs was a beast that certainly wasn’t my Henry.
A scream escaped as the fleshy monster’s eyes flitted over to me. I took but a moment to examine its appearance. It was made of the same icky substance the upside down was; it dripped with unknown, watery substances and it had vines escaping from the back. The only humane thing about it was the azure eyes it held.
The grandfather clock struck four times. It echoed and shook the house. Spiders seemed to escape this time. Another screech released and that only convinced me further to go into the kitchen. Most of the drawers were covered in vines.
A low chuckle that wasn’t my Henry’s voice rumbled across the entire house. The stairs creaked with each step it took.
And then, I spotted it. It was ragged but it was something. A wooden broom with dry, harsh sticks for the effect was by the door. I remember having that with my own mother since the house was still expensive enough that we had to be resourceful. She showed me how to make it and it was a beautiful afternoon out on the porch.
I picked it up. The spiders were seemingly dispersing, but then, the monster stepped into the room. The vines were flailing more than usual, and I had backed myself into a corner. It paused, watching me in amusement. I took the chance to start banging the handle into the back door that led out to the porch. I kept prying, and one even got loose.
I gasped out of joy as one fell to the floor. But my breath caught in my throat as my body was swung back into the wall. The broom snapped in half midair from just the clenching of the monster’s hand. I went to scream, to move, to do anything to escape. However, the vines wrapped around my body, almost painfully so. My flesh became sticky and one especially wrapped around my throat.
The monster walked in front of me, tantalizingly so. Its hands were clasped behind its back. And then, as it looked me over, its skin pulsed. In an instant, it transformed into Henry. The only resemblance to the monster before was the azure eyes, glinting with evil intentions.
Henry tilted his head, sending me a warning smile. “Are you purposefully trying to displease me, Y/n?” he cooed innocently.
The vine moved and I could finally breath again. The vines still held tight against my chest, but I heaved out breaths. Beads of sweat rolled down my forehead. Tears broke through, like they always did. All. I knew to do was plead for my life. “Please, whatever you are, don’t kill me! I - I have a family —“
He laughed. Cruelly so. “Oh? Don't tell me you’re talking about those pests for children,” he hissed. “And what, do you intend to add that damned Eddie Munson to the family? Are you intending to replace me just to spite me?”
My voice caught in my throat. I almost believed it was Henry. But I knew it couldn’t be. He stared into my eye sharply. His composure was still so calm and collected. The monster was so very good at impersonating the - former - love of my life.
He took a step closer.
“D - don’t! I - if you try to kill me, Jake - he’ll save me!”
Henry’s expression faltered and his frown deepened. He furrowed his brows further and clicked his tongue in distaste. He didn’t move, or so it seemed, but I noticed that just from swiping his finger slightly, the vines dissolved. A yelp escaped, but I ended up collapsing right into his arms. They trapped me tightly, even though I tried to push away.
I was still so tired. Henry clutched me so very possessively, and I almost wanted to accept my fate. The monster had sought me out as a victim for… whatever it wished. And, as strong and Jacob had once been, he couldn’t fight an entire upside down. He couldn’t fight inside my head like Jane could. His powers were better at altering the physical reality.
“Oh, my dear. You must be so confused. I’m sorry for scaring you. But I was just so angry. It is me, my love. Your friends are lying to you about everything. They know nothing of what I am. But you. Come to me, my dear. Follow the compass. Alone. It would be a shame… if anything were to happen to that pest you find yourself so fond of, wouldn’t it?”
“You can’t be Henry. He’s dead —“
“Who do you think you’ve been fighting these past few years, my dear? Why, when a demogorgon was before you, did he chase after your friends and not you? Why, when my fellow demodogs were surrounding you, did they not tear you to shreds? Why, when my mind flayer. as they call it, - not even a year ago, mind you - swipe you away but not hurt a hair on your head?
“Why, when I killed all my other victims so easily, have I catered to you so particularly?
“It’s because it is me, my dear. It always has been. You simply refuse to believe it. And it has bought me more time than I could possibly imagine.”
Suddenly, the world around us began to unravel. Henry’s grasp on me loosened. From over his shoulder, I saw that a portal was opening. It was brilliantly white, and the house around us began to be swept into the horizon it was creating. In the distance, I heard it.
Loving You by Elvis.
My favorite song.
“I will spend my whole life through, loving you, just loving you. Winter, summer, springtime, too. Loving you, loving you.”
My jaw dropped. However, Henry’s hands drifted to my cheeks, cupping it. He turned me away from the portal. He swayed slightly, swiping away my tears. All of his fury dissolved as he hummed along to it. He pressed a quick, careful kiss to my forehead.
“Our favorite. Even after all this time…”
“Just you and, if I’m seen with someone new, don’t be blue, don’t you be blue. I’ll be faithful, I’ll be true.”
“Go on, my dear. Get going. I wish to reunite with you in person soon. Follow the compass.”
He stepped out of the way, sending me a kind, innocent smile. He patted my back, ushering me forward. The song was just finishing up.  I spared the monster but a glance, my entire body wracked with confusion. I stumbled forward into the light. I heard people calling my name. I heard Jacob calling for me.
I emerged from a dark pit, but it was like everything changed. My eyes shot open and a scream of terror released. I was so very close to the ceiling and I was suddenly falling. However, I heard shouts, and before I could graze the floor, arms enveloped me. The people around me were shaken, but I grasped them two pairs of arms had caught me, namely Steve and Eddie. Jacob was watching in horror, his hand raised, and regardless, my weight floated from their grasp. He looked almost pained from the interaction, but sat me on the couch.
I pawed at my face and my shoulders. I could still feel those vines on me, and I could still feel Henry’s lips on my forehead. I wished so badly to burst into tears, but all I could repeat were his words. Everything made sense that it was him. And yet…
Henry was supposed to be dead.
“Ma! W - what happened?” Jacob exclaimed, meeting me on the couch. Everything that was going on was affecting him, and it was clear, but he was trying to hold himself together regardless.
I released a shaky breath and gulped. My eyes flitted up to him unsurely as people gathered around. Someone put a stop to the Elvis record, which had been put on loop for Loving You. I didn’t want to be right. I didn’t want to tell them just yet.
So, I mustered,” N - Nancy, Robin, what did you guys find out about Victor Creel?”
Robin was the first to pipe up,” Funny you say that —!”
“We found out that music is Vecna’s weakness,” Nancy interjected. She glanced toward the ground, clasping her hands together. Everyone watched in anticipation, but she seemed nervous to admit the other thing. Even Robin bit her lip.
“And that Victor is Henry Creel’s father, the same Henry you knew and the same Henry that lived here, in this very house. He killed his entire family except his father and then was swept away to the Hawkins underground lab because of his abilities. Or, at least, that timeline is presumed.”
“I have always been this way.”
Clear as bells, I heard his voice, nothing but a whisper from the past. And everything in my head was true. Henry Creel was Vecna. And, even after all these years, his goals had not changed. He still wanted world destruction and he still wanted me.
“S - so, uh, what did you see? Anything helpful?” Eddie prodded carefully, having sat next to Jacob on the couch.
I had to steel myself from the embarrassment and shame I would surely feel. I gulped, stuttering,” I - it’s… Henry Creel. It really is him.”
Jacob tensed, and I weaved my arm to pull him closer. He was trembling so very much. Silence fell over the room, and people sensed my disturbance. People sensed that we were terrified.
“A - and he made it loud and clear that it was him. And he was so angry…”
“Why?” Steve prompted.
I had to prevent tears from sliding down my cheeks. It was so embarrassing. “Because… he was jealous.”
“Of what?” Eddie scoffed. “He’s literally some, uh, all-powerful demon.”
I shook my head, chuckling dryly. “Of you, Eddie. He’s s - still… well, he can read my thoughts, and your’s, and he just… didn’t like it. I - I’m sorry, it’s stupid, but, uh…”
Eddie’s cheeks flushed in embarrassment, and Jacob sent him a suspicious glare. The other folks became rather smug and demure, picking up what I was putting down. I assumed that I was blushing. Robin was snickering knowingly, but I didn’t want to linger on the subject.
“B - but! He told me to - to go to him. To ‘follow the compass,’ even if I don’t know what it means. There’s probably, uh, portals around, right? And, like, that magnetic effect thing is probably in place if portals are opening up, so…”
“Compass…” Dustin muttered. A lightbulb suddenly went off and he fished through his pocket. He gasped quietly, and everyone turned to him.. “You’re right! The compass is going haywire. It’s pointing in a direction that isn’t even north. I bet it’s leading to a portal, right?”
“Wait, seriously?” Steve interjected.
Dustin held up the compass. Indeed, the needle was shaking, and it certainly wasn’t pointing north. “I bet if we can find the portal, we can scout out the inside a little and come up with a game plan to kill Vecna.”
“It’s Henry,” Robin interjected.
“Actually, he’s One,” Jacob snickered.
I blinked as people insisted on the various names. I still felt so guilty, and I couldn’t help it. As an argument broke through about what was the correct name to call Henry, I whispered. I felt so ashamed that I still had feelings for him. And although I had immunity, my friends didn’t. I didn’t want them to get in trouble by going through the portal, even slightly. And it was stupid for us to go through.
“We shouldn’t go in. Only I have any sort of immunity, a - and… he’ll kill you all.”
“What? That’s bullshit, ma!”
Everyone fell silent, jumping from Jacob’s outburst. Eddie’s in particular was pleading for an answer.
“I’m right though, Jake! This entire time, we’ve been fighting Henry. He told me so. And the amount of times everyone in this room has almost died is stupid. We either don’t go through the portal at all, or only I should be the one to do so.”
“Sounds good to me —“ Eddie began.
Jacob shook his head stubbornly. “Then I guess we’re not going in at all! You’ll just get… Vecna’d or whatever he wants to do to you.”
“Wait, are you serious about him being responsible for everything in the upside down and Hawkins?”
“…Yeah. He reminded me h - how the demogorgons or demodogs never tried to attack me, and how the mind flayer had the chance to kill me but never tried to, but… it was just hard to believe it’s him because he hasn’t, uh, ‘been in touch,’ so to speak…”
“I guess that’s settled then,” Steve sighs, crossing his arms. “But, uh, I got to know. Why the hell is Vecna, so, uh, into you, anyways? Aren’t you half the reason he ended up dead?”
My cheeks flushed and I covered it. Jacob scowled and everyone sent him a glare, but the guy didn’t know what he said wrong, holding his hands up in defense. I shook my head. “I - I’m sorry, there’s just better things to worry about,” I tittered through my fingers. “The, uh, relationship drama isn’t that important, so…”
“Yeah, dude, who cares? They, uh, clearly had a very personal relationship,” Robin snickered quietly.
“Well, I don’t know about you guys, but I’m off to follow this compass and hunt for portals,” Dustin announced.
~~~
“So, uh, this is the place?” Eddie asked quietly rather confused. “It’s literally a lake, though.”
“Well, judging from the police tape by Rick’s place,” I observed,” someone went down here. I guess it was good to get you out of there, huh?”
“Steve, what the hell are you doing?” Robin suddenly spoke up in disbelief.
Steve was in the process of tearing off his shirt. He seemed so serious, but he paused, deadpanning, as he scanned the group of us. “I’m going for a swim. That portal’s obviously in there, yeah? I say the adults take the lead while the kids take watch.”
“Hey, I’m almost certain I’m more competent than you, Steve-o,” Dustin groaned, crossing his arms.
Max agreed,” Yeah, how many times is it going to take for you to realize that we’re as big of a part of this as you all?”
“Exactly!” I piped up eagerly. “That is why we need competent people to keep an eye out. Also, those headphones aren’t waterproof, Max. You’re kind of stuck on land, so…”
Nancy clapped her hands together impatiently. “Great. So, uh, we’re all swimming out?”
Erica shook her head in dismay and plopped on the ground. Jacob had yet to detach from my side, glancing warily at the others. His eyes pleaded for me to stay, but my path was decided. I ushered him over. Eddie and Robin volunteered to also stay with the kids, so that left me, Nancy, and Steve to explore the depths of the lake.
I slid my shirt over my head, and I wasn’t deaf to the ‘woah, L/n, that’s your mom?’ That came from Eddie Munson. It was almost flattering, but I refused to allow my thoughts to bask in the compliment. I realized that Henry was listening. And I didn’t want him to be mad, only because I was afraid of him.
Henry and I were no more.
Although Steve was already submerged in the water, beckoning for Dustin to hand over the compass, the young boy tossed it to me. I thanked him kindly and we set off into the water. It was cold to say the least, even with a thin layer of denim jeans covering the bottom half. We sloshed into the water.
I sent Jacob one last glance. He was tense, his jaw clenched. I blew him a kiss before submerging myself into the water completely.
“Which way?” Nancy called, wading a bit away.
“I think it’s pointing toward the center,” I answered. “It keeps pointing in that general direction.”
“Just don’t drown, Y/n. This Vecna guy would have our heads on a stick even faster.”
Nancy scoffed, and Steve once again released a defense ‘what?’. However, I kept forward, doggy-paddling. The compass began going more and more haywire as we swam out, but the needle was becoming more and more precise. My immediate thought was that some stupid teenagers came out for a midnight skinny-dipping session, but I’d have to watch the news when I got home.
The moonlight shown down on us, lighting the path. The lake was completely till, except for the ripple effect of it. At some point, I noticed that Robin and Eddie felt like cowards for stay behind and dipped their toes in, too. I giggled at that, returning my attention to in front of me. But that is when I noticed how the needle was once again going haywire in a circular motion.
I halted, and so did my friends. “Did you find it?” Eddie called eagerly, catching up to us.
Steve was just as entranced by the sight. We exchanged looks, nodding. Nancy saddled up next to Steve, slightly out of breath. “Yeah, we found it,” Steve called back, maintaining eye contact with me. “It’s underneath us.”
“Now why the hell would this Vecna guy shove a portal in the middle of the lake? He’s making it so damn inconvenient for us,” Robin quipped stubbornly.
“Hey, Nancy, hold this.” Unprovoked, I shoved the compass to her. “I’m just going to check it out really quick.”
“Me too,” Steve agreed.
Nancy took the compass, bidding us a ‘be careful.’I took one last breath and dove under the water. Steve was a far more apt swimmer than I was - he mentioned something about being a swim team captain or lifeguard -, but I kept up regardless. The water was inky and pitch black and I could only assume I was going down. However, I wasn’t capable of holding my breath too long, so that was a problem.
But then, as we swam deeper, we saw it. A red, glowing hue consumed the atmosphere. I was almost in awe, because as we descended, we found it. It wasn’t as large as the other portals we’d found before, but it was still fairly large. It was vine-y and pulsing slowly. On the other side, barely visibly through the hole, was a purple-red sky.
Steve was beside me, and we looked at each other again. I nodded to him and we began swimming back up, abandoning the portal. The water was chilly and shivers rolled down my spine. We broke through the surface, and I immediately gasped for breath.
“Was it there?” Nancy prodded eagerly.
Steve flashed a grin, realizing I needed to catch my breath. “Yeah. It was there.”
“Bite-sized,” Robin muttered in awe.
“Uh-huh. A bite-sized portal.”
I gasped as I felt something slimy slip past my leg. Everyone turned to me, concerned. Steve grabbed my arm, but I felt it no more, realizing it had to have been a fish or something. My heart was still beating erratically in my chest, but I shook my head. “S - sorry. A fish must’ve swam past my leg, is all.”
That was proven to be false not even a second later. The same slimy creature wrapped around my calf entirely, and a second accompanied it. A scream escaped my lips and I shut my mouth as I was pulled beneath the surface. Steve grabbed at me, trying to prevent me from being pulled in the water. However, the perpetrators just yanked me free.
I couldn’t even do anything as I was pulled at high-speed to the bottom of the lake. I clawed desperately at the water above, but recognized the quickly approaching red hue of the lake. Suddenly, I was submerged in vines, being thrust through the pulsing portal.
It was almost gentle as I was thrown into a pile of molten vine rubbish. Another screech escaped as the vines departed. My body ached and the vines tore through my jeans. I scrambled to my feet, maintaining a prominent limp. I let out a few gasped of pain, immediately finding that what I had landed in was some sort of rowing boat.
I heard distant screeches. I grabbed a paddle, trying so desperately to retreat to the portal. However, as I stepped onto it, the vines had completely shut it. However, that was the least of my concerns as my attention was drawn to giant, vine bats descended from the sky, still screeching at the top of their lungs.
They swarmed at me from all angles. And then, as terribly as I tried to swat at one a vine lashed out and grabbed my neck. My scream was muted fro this and I abandoned the oar, completely focusing on the chokehold I was in. The other bats lashed out to hold me down just as much.
I was pulled to the ground. I tried struggling free, swiping at the various vines. However, the one that had me in a chokehold suddenly moved upward to my jaw. I gasped, trying to sit up, but the vine slipped into my mouth. The slimy substance completely detached from the bat, which let out another deafening screech.
The vine, completely sentient, shrunk and squeezed itself down my throat. It was so uncomfortable and I hated every second of it. However, by he time the other vines removed themselves from my arms, I had felt it crawl all the way from my throat to inside my chest. It was like my body was more alive than ever, and I hated it.
The bats completely detached for a brief moment. I keeled over on my hands and knees, trying so badly to vomit it up. My fingers dug into the reddish slime beneath my fingertips and I kept retching, tears and sobs escaping. But it was no use, because once the monster forced its way into the pit of my stomach, it froze completely.
I felt it form into a tiny ball and dissolve. And that terrified me.
Aw, thanks so much for the ask! ❤️
1) Who is your favorite character to write for and is this the character you find easiest to write for?
I kind of have a conventional and an unconventional answer for this. I think for OG 9-1-1, my favorite character to write for is Eddie, just because I relate to him so much and I feel like it's pretty easy to get inside his head. I'm not very outwardly emotive and I have a very subtle way of showing that I care, so I find writing him much easier with those things in mind than someone like Buck, who is much more outward about all that.
My unconventional answer is actually Mateo from 9-1-1: Lone Star. It's weird, I don't think Mateo and I are very alike, and I think that's why writing for him can be a little difficult at times, but some of my favorite scenes from my Survivor AU fic are from his POV. A majority of the scenes for that fic that I've written so far are pretty serious, but I intentionally take a comedic route with Mateo, which has been pretty fun to explore. Homeboy had no idea what he was getting himself into applying for Survivor, but he's having fun figuring it out as he goes. I especially love writing him in scenes with Marjan and Paul and having them all playing off of each other the way that they do in canon.
7) How do you edit your fics? What do you look for in your edits?
Haha, you know me — I'm a very fast writer, but a very slow editor. This is because I prioritize scenes that are fresh in my head and write those in full, and then move onto the scenes that aren't quite coming naturally. If a scene isn't coming naturally to me, I write what I call a "skeleton draft" of it, which is mostly just simple dialogue, and some rough description if I can think of it. Very bare-bones. So when I go through and edit (which is usually at least a few days after the fact so I can get enough separation from it), I flesh out the scenes much more. I add descriptions, better words to say what I mean (which includes a lot of googling of "synonym for _____" 😂), the POV character's thoughts and feelings about what's happening, etc. I also prioritize making sure that any dialogue or actions both feel in character and line up with the way the character has been behaving thus far.
This all definitely doesn't happen in one go though, which is why editing one chapter can sometimes take as long as a week or two. I usually skim through the chapter once, making edits to the most "noticeably wrong" things, and then highlighting in red whatever feels off, but I want to come back to later. Then I read through it again, correcting more in red, and leaving the red things that I haven't figured out how to correct yet. I repeat this process however many times it takes to get rid of all the text in red, and once that's done, I consider the chapter "edited" 😅 at which point I send to my helpers for feedback 😊
15) If you could only write one type of fic (angst, fluff, etc.) for the rest of your life what would it be?
Oh, this is so tough, mostly because both of my WIPs are so long that there's a little bit of everything in them. Saying "reality TV AU" feels like a cop-out here, so I'm going to say mystery fics, if that counts? I love mystery novels, and one of my favorite things is building up to something that happens by sprinkling tiny hints and foreshadowing along the way until the big reveal. The Perfect Match is basically all of this on both a minor and major scale. Yes, it's a romance, but there's a big mystery element to it, and I feel like such an evil mad scientist every time I drop a little hint about a perfect match pair, or — even better — drop a red herring 😈 Any fic where I can do that is fun for me.
