THE PREACHER’S DAUGHTER

At nineteen, Nina Simms’ life changed forever when she was turned into a werewolf. On her first full moon her father chased her out of the house with an axe. She ended up badly hurt on the side of the road where she was found by Alan Deaton, who ended up taking her to Beacon Hills a couple of towns over and to his clinic, where he nursed her back to health.

Fast forward six years later, Nina is now full-on working for Deaton at the clinic, being a big sister figure to Scott, and dating Jean Mangal. She has fully adjusted to living in Beacon Hills, and her life as a werewolf. She still prays every night that her father will reach out and apologize, but she is starting to realize that this is nothing more than a mere pipe dream.

When Nina senses that Scott has been turned into a werewolf, she knows she has to keep him safe and steer him in the right direction, which is made infinitely harder by Derek Hale butting in at every turn and messing things up for her. When the hunters roll into town, her father in tow, Nina is frozen. Her whole world collapses once more. Her father wants to kill her. None of this is helped by her older brother Asher, whom she hadn’t seen in seen in years, who comes to town to find the man who turned her and kill him. Peter Hale.

OC SUMMER CHALLENGE

Day 10: Stargazing

Nina lay on the cold ground, her wild hair contained in a bun that she had wrestled with for thirty minutes. She hadn't thought to bring a blanket, just needed to get away from it all for a bit.

A few weeks ago she was back home in Riverside, ready to head off to veterinary school and hopefully return one day to help out her father. But now, she was a monster, and her Dad hated her and nearly killed her.

The young werewolf sighed, looking up at the stars. It was an unreasonably cold night for a Californian summer and she was starting to regret not having brought a jacket or a blanket.

The crunching of leaves nearby made her shoot up. "Hello?"

Someone stepped out of the bushes. A tall dude, brown skin, glorious beard. A sweet smile crossed his face. He raised his hands, a flashlight hung off his wrist from the strap it was attached to. The other hand was clutching a small stuffed animal.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I just needed to find this."

Nina chuckled, putting a hand up to her heart. She blew out a sigh of relief. "You scared me for a second," she started. "You don't see someone stumble out of a bush in the evening everyday."

The young man laughed. "You're right, I look insane. But my kid really likes this bear and I have been looking for it all day."

"You have a kid? You look a little young," Nina said, then immediately put up her hands. "Not that I'm judging. It's just that the community I'm from always frowned on having kids so young. I'm sorry now I'm just making a fool of myself."

He came up and sat down next to Nina. "No worries, I understand. There has been a lot of baby mama drama lately. But, you know, someone has to step up to the plate."

Nina nodded. "Good for you for doing that."

He nodded. "So what brings you out here in the evening, if I may ask?"

Nina smiled at him, looking up at the stars once more. "Daddy issues."

"Oof."

Nina laughed. "Yeah, you can say that again," she said. She laid back down on the ground with a big sigh. "I've been here for a couple of weeks. In Beacon Hills, I mean. My Dad kind of attacked me and I had to flee. Doctor Deaton found me on the side of the road and nursed me back to health, basically."

"Wow."

"Sorry, I'm just trauma dumping now."

"No, no, you're all good. I just...wow...that's a lot, isn't it?"

Nina nodded. He laid down next to her and looked up at the stars as well. After a few minutes of silence he spoke once more. "You know, Deaton is an old friend of my family. So I assume we'll be seeing each other more from now on."

"Oh?"

"Yep! My name is Jean, by the way. Jean Mangal."

"I'm Nina. It's nice to meet you, Jean."
