between wrath and mercy

Mismatched irises were narrowed sharply at the proposed plan.
This was not a good plan. This was not something she was going to take part in.
This was a great insult.
It did not go unnoticed; her beloved Reaper in her current Miqo’te form was gazing at her, undoubtedly gauging the aura from the Xaela. “Shuri?”
Shuri huffed through her fangs, her molars grinding as she folded her arms over her chest. “I am not taking part in this,” she announced to the group shortly. Kivera knew the tone well. While it was rare to hear it in the Xaela’s voice, it was clear that she was furious.
Lyse turned to Shuri, eyes wide at the declaration the Xaela. One of esteemed Warriors of Light was always so gentle and appeared willing to aid when she could. This reaction was surprising. “What do you mean? Shuri, we need your help to bring this to fruition. To help Hien liberate Doma!”
“I am not assisting to liberate a nation on the backs of my people!” The words spat out of Shuri like acid, taking a threatening step toward Lyse and Hien, hands curled into fists. “Ta öörsdiinkhöö ashig sonirkhlyn tölöö bidnii ulamjlalyg munkhag baidlaar gishgedeg! Ezent gürnees yalgaagüi [1]!”
“Shuri.” Kivera’s tone was calm, steady; yet it also served as a warning to the others in the group. Shuri was devout in her heritage; she would absolutely refuse to have it insulted in any form.
With a rough click of her tongue, Shuri spun on her heel. “The Tsagaan Sar is sacred. The nadaam is sacred. To create an army of Xaela to spare the casualties of your people, you risk mine to retaliation of the Garleans. As if we need more of that!” she shouted, striding away to the vastness of the Steppe, her long, snow-silver hair flying behind her.
When Shuri was out of sight, Kivera turned her stony glare to Hien. “You’ve no idea how much you’ve angered her,” she told the Doman prince darkly. “Your plan is foolish and not without sacrifice. You wish to use the tradition of the Xaela--of Shuri’s kinfolk--to make your army. To lead the Mol to victory to secure this plan. Have you not seen how Shuri is devoted to her heritage, despite having not lived in the Steppe since the Garleans took her tribe from her? Her family?”
Hien remained silent during Kivera’s berating, his expression stoic before he spoke. “Mayhap this will also be cathartic for her. To fight with her people against the Garleans.”
Kivera shook her head, turning to follow Shuri’s path, before saying one final thing.
“You truly are a fool, prince, if you think she will help you.”
