Longstory - Marcel’s Awakening Part 1
I found this amazing game and after playing through it, wanted more, so I decided to write it from Marcel’s point of view. I currently plan on it focusing on coming to terms with his feelings for men since my main character is a guy. It won’t follow the game exactly but I’m planning on keeping some scenes exactly as they are canon.
Thanks for reading and I welcome any and all constructive criticism! @longstorygame
Stop staring. Stop it. Marcel watched as a fresh face entered his science class. He swallowed and faced the front of the room again where the teacher had pulled up an empty periodic table on the smartboard. “Who can tell me the noble gases? Charley?”
The new kid looked startled at being called out on his first day. “Um… Helium, Neon… Uh Argon…”
“Krypton, Xenon, and Radon. How do you not know that?” Marcel sneered but blinked in surprise as the new kid just shrugged.
“Hey, I forgot. People forget stuff, it’s normal.”
“That’s not even the point. Why are we even reviewing this? I learned this stuff in grade 4. I shouldn’t have to be here.”
“That’s enough Marcel,” the teacher finally interrupted him.
“I told you. It’s Marc.” Marcel fought the flicker of irritation as every teacher refused to call him by his preferred name.
“Keep it up and I’ll send you down to speak to Principal Chevy.”
Marcel snorted, “Don’t you mean Bob?”
“I said enough! Now apologize to Charley for interrupting.”
Marc frowned. He narrowed his eyes at Charley and prepared to apologize, but before he spoke up Charley said, “It’s fine, don’t worry about it.” Charley shrugged again and gave Marcel a hesitant smile.
Marcel felt his heart thud heavily in his chest as he tried to ignore the easy attitude of the new kid. His attempts to focus on the teacher were unsuccessful as every time Charley so much as shifted in his seat, Marcel’s eyes were drawn to him.
The day dragged on until finally he could go home. He stopped before stepping out the front doors as he saw Colin and Charley chatting. When they were finally done, he slipped outside and hurried for the bus. He thought he recognized the uneasy feeling in him as he watched Charley throughout the day, but forcefully tried to stamp it down.
“You’ve had such a serious expression on your face all evening,” Jaddi spoke from his arm chair. “Perhaps you have been studying too much?”
“I always study too much Jaddi.”
“When will you take up something you find fun? You have your whole life to be serious.”
“I have my whole life for fun.”
“You have not smiled much since you broke up with that girl last year.”
“She broke up with me Jaddi.”
“Both people hurt in a break up, regardless of who broke up with who.” Jaddi was quiet, “Hafid, promise me you will relax with your studies for a while and have some fun this year.”
Before Marcel could think of a response, his father spoke from behind him. “Jaddi, stop tell Marcel to study less. He has an admirable work ethic.”
“He studies too much.”
“He is concerned for his future.”
“He needs to have fun.”
Marcel’s dad sighed, but left it alone. “Bedtime soon Marcel.”
Marc nodded and his father left the room. Jaddi gave Marc a grin as he pulled a book out from underneath his lap blanket. “Do you remember where we were?”
“Of course.”
“No, faith, I’ll not stay a jot longer,” Jaddi quoted as he handed the book over.
Marc, as always, was amazed at his grandfather’s ability to memorize entire scripts. He quickly found the right page, “Thy reason, dear venom, give thy reason.”
“You must needs yield your reason, Sir Andrew.”
They continued as long as they could until Marc’s father again entered the room with a disapproving scowl upon his face. With wishes of a good night, Marcel left for bed, finally feeling the unease that had plagued him since science class leave his spirit.
