Here me out, in the tugs fandom there are 3 depictions of captain zero

1. Shitty mustache ( looks like it's pencil drawn)

2. Mustache that curls into a zero ( it curling to represent how he's the antagonist and also it resembles a 0 )

3. No mustache ( because he's either terrible at facial hair or artist just didn't draw him with one)

In your au is there an inside joke that zero can't grow proper facial hair?

I have been a conosuier of human Captain Zero's for years, and that theory does hold water!

I think the only Zero I can think of until a few that cropped up around this year with a beard that was drawn more than once is Dan-the-countdowner's over on deviant art. God speed Dan you where like the only guy drawing human Captains for years.

Anyways, on to my au! There will be a detailed explanation under the read more but tldr:

When Zero was a younger man he always kept himself clean shaven, after his time in he army he attempts to grow a mustache, which was universally hated and every one regarded as a bad move. Post War 1918-pre Zip 1920 is lovingly known as the rat years in the photo albums that reside around Zero Marine Bigg City.

Before the Great War Captain Zero clean shaved every morning, brushed out, cared for, and styled his hair, and generally looked put together and intentional despite living with rather wild, wavy, longer hair. I picture him around a 2b/2c if he makes an attempt to care for it but when he's not doing anything particular its just a frizzy/fluffy 2a, he has pretty fine hair so it's never consistent unless Zero makes the effort. His hair keeping short also makes it less wavy than it might be if he let it grow out.

He'll never admit it but he never really liked looking anyone in the eyes as a young man, and he still doesn't like it. His long bangs covering his face made him feel more calm and helped hide the fact he was avoiding eye contact.

When he signed up for the draft, Star had made a few passing comments about his hair, but Zero never thought anything of it. He's always remembered Star had had longer hair, and the Army wasn't that different to the navy, right?

After he was drafted and was in training, one of the first things that happened was his hair was trimmed back to fit in his helmet better and his daily grooming routine was reprimanded as a waste of time for a medic. He was told to change it or lives would be lost. So change it he did. This change consisted of not doing his hair routine save for 'basic maintenance' [ie, none] as needed, and only shaving one or twice a week, his facial hair never did grow very fast and was rather sparse anyways.

When he got back from the war, he vowed to grow his hair back out, but he was a different man returning home.

With his new found free time in the mornings meant he could always find time for tea and some breakfast. Making for a slightly less 'tired bitch of a captain' according to his three tugboats [data gathered from eaves dropping on their nightly poker games]. With his shaving routine fully altered and him no longer being picky about being clean shaven, he decided to try out facial hair, his father always maintained a beard, so why couldn't he? Genetics were on his side! He often forgets he's adopted.

It never did grow in fast, or very full. Even with Zorran's best efforts to help, Zero never really had more than a slightly bushy mess. And his hair never really got back to it's same length/health after the war, he always blamed it on the fact it was cut back, and not the fact he was a depressed mess after Europe who had stopped grooming almost entirely for years.

When Zip was due to be christened, Zero finally went down to a barbers shop to get himself cleaned up for the photographs at the urging of his tugboats and mother.

The barber took one look at him and told him the mustache needed to go and that his hair was initially damaged from lack of care during the war and then exacerbated by lack of care after. Zero on a whim let the man do what he felt was right, it was a new decade after all.

Zero's up cut was initially very low maintenance for him and he quite preferred it that way. Zero didn't keep up steam with his hair care the same way he did before the war, but he could manage to brush it in the morning to keep it from getting as bad as it had been.

Once Zasha comes into his life and he realized she has much curlier hair than he ever did [a mix of 3 b/c], he starts to pick hair maintenance back up as he learns how to take care of her hair. He's gotta be a role model and a good father after all. He still never gets back to how he was before the war, but at least his hair is healthy instead of oily, frizzy, and out of place.

More importantly he's taking regular showers and grooming again. His tugs count both of those things as a win.

He never figures out why he was less particular about the way he looks after the war. He was living a life of crime before the war. In the army he never injured a soul or took a life, unlike his days collecting debts as an 'accountant.'

He doesn't see how the war to end all wars could have changed him.

could i get a matchups/self ship with one of the boys from either scream, dazed and confused, or view askew(clerks/dogma/jay and silent bob film)..those are the ones i'm familiar with that i can think of right now :)

I don't know if looks matter, but i'm about 5'3, short dark hair with bangs that most people think is black(i dye it black sometimes), grey/blue eyes, thin and flat with long and knobby fingers("piano" fingers). My style is usually entirely black just out of comfort, but sometimes if i'm feeling inspired I wear red, purple, and pink.

Things i like to do involve collecting skipping stones and items i find on my walks, and cropping all my t shirts. I write in a journal, which is more objective then emotional. I also write songs, though I'm not musically talented. I enjoy sketching, making playlists, going on cleaning sprees, dancing, and very, very long walks

My personality is usually described as quiet but eccentric once i open my mouth. Despite being kind of odd, and being told so, I've also been described as "a very smart girl", not trying to stroke my ego. Personally, I think I'm just blunt. I like to think that I don't hold grudges, but if I'm bothered by something i'll give it a few days to settle until i find out how i feel, then either move on or explode at said person. that doesn't happen often, but when it does i apologize for getting loud. Some people tend to think I'm cold, but I just think I'm more of a listener. When I do decide to have a full conversation, i get all of my emotions out then go back to the usual. I also really love animals especially rabbits, cats and armadillos! These animals tend to like me too, at least the one armadillo i met haha.

How the fuck are you able to do character design and stay satisfied with it?

Like.

I may have the drawing capacity of air, abd have to rely on picrew( and other character creation things), but damn man, sometimes it's hard.

Like some are easy and I can name it at the top of my head:

Dante is a tall lean male that wears a collared shirt with a royal blue vest. He has long, wavy light blond hair with the front pulled back into a small bun while the rest flows down ( think Beta Amity). His pose is generally with him with one arm( his right arm) crossed while his other arm rests diagonally from it, his fingers outstretched in some fancy manner. His legs are in that ballerina stance ( think Pearl from Steven Universe)

Kohaku is a curvy woman that wears a simple tank top and shorts, perfect for going out and constantly running in the wild and doing research, especially under that sun of Hoenn. Her most noticeable features is her green bow on the top of her head, accompanied by her long single braided hair, her seemingly normal backpack, and her built legs cause yes( if we're adding the legs then her freckled body is also noticeable). If she were to have a pose it would be literally like her dad, running in a direction, with things falling out of her bag.

Danica is a person I'm having second thoughts about in terms of design, but generally speaking, she's a short and stout woman with long dark blue hair and bangs that cast a shadow over her dark brown eyes, making them appear a dark red. She generally wears brown in the form of a jacket and boots, with a white shirt/ turtle neck and either a dark blue, brown or red shirt to match. She wears black leggings cause duh, it's Sinnoh. Her most noticable feature, however, is the red scarf that seems to pop almost as much as her hair does, and that it tends to flow in the wind ominously. Her scarf tends to cover her mouth, making it hard to gain her expressions. Her pose is much more reserved to herself, her simply standing with one hand to her chest while the other lays freely by her side. She's simply staring, with her red scarf sways just a bit. Simply staring.

THAT! That's the easy stuff. But then there's Aiko. And Jin. And Eva. And A and E. All for different reasons

Aiko's current design doesn't fit how I see her now, than I did before. It doesn't give me bubbly girl who can very much kick your ass ( physically). I chalked it up to the pigtails, but still. What does she wear, how can I portray her character best. Does she keep the overall? If she does, are they shorts or now?

Jin's current design doesn't scream Jin. And this is partly due to me early on not knowing who Jin is, but now that I have a decent understanding of them, it's even harder to figure out what they would wear( both in what they think they like and what they actually like)

For Eva I'm having a hard time trying to mesh her sportiness, with her tech smarts, with her literally being probably the most successful of the protagonist of the amount of stuff that she does ( movie star, mechanic, champion, owner of that plaza or whatever it's called, etc). Though of all of that, her sportiness and her being a tech person is the most important factors when it comes to her design.

( gonna add Wayne here cause he's a good boi and while I don't have much qualms with his design it's literally only because I think of fucking Izuku Midoriya when it comes to his type of his general vibe of clothing, except his shirt is a crop top. Take that how you will. I guess I"m worried if that's good for a delivery boy but eh.)

A and E are probably the most noticable of my oc's that you can tell they're based off Hilbert and Hilda. And I know that's the point, but it bothers me. Maybe it's because for Alexis I keep on making characters with blue hoodies and it's getting annoying, and that Elliot, while the easier of the two, seem so incomplete in terms of design. Like yeah, their design options are limited to what Hilbert and Hilda wear, but it doesn't have to be, and I'm trying to figure out what.

The kids probably have the easiest cause they have customization that I can base their clothing of the options of the game, in which I can easily build upon ( I am aware that BDSP has customization, and maybe that could help with Kiran, but he's also easy in he's such a Tired Professor).

Okay. That's another character design rant or whatever. Truthfully, it's just the few that's giving me trouble, lol.

Also I am so mad that I was able to pull of those descriptions well, when any other time I would be struggling.
