How I fell down the Emulator Pipeline (or Rabbit hole, whichever you prefer)

It all started with moving away and leaving 90% of my stuff behind. Two of these things included my 3ds and my copy of Personal Trainer Cooking.

I needed some recipes for a meal I was doing, and I didn't have that hardware handy and I had no idea where it could be, so I just installed an emulator on my computer and ran the program on my PC. I needed the recipe to be mobile, so I can read it in the kitchen, so I installed Drastic on my phone and went from there.

Once I did that, I figured, "Let's emulate some of the games I've wanted to play again on my phone."

I did that for a bit, worked out fine. I then remembered the Jontron video about Pokémon. Ya know, the one. Jontron downplayed the Moemon hack, basically calling the creator of it a pedo which is unfortunate because Moemon is just Gijinka. It is not a hentai mod or a loli mod. It's just the reverse of turning a human into an animal. I'm very pro anthropomorphism, it's basically my whole deal. I like that term more than furry, even though one is way easier to spell than the other, the former is way more inclusive and is not an implication of sexuality.

In any case, I installed that mod. Actually, I had to patch a specific version of fire red to do that, but I figured that out and ran the Moemon mod which included Mega evolutions even though it's a mod of a game that came out many years before that was a thing.

Then I saw that there were more Pokémon ROM hacks, like a ton more. So I installed them. Not all of them are good though, we got edge lord mods, unfinished or glitchy mods, mods requiring patches from original game files that don't exist online anymore, and mods in different languages. There's a demake community that use fire red as the base for making a version of the current Pokémon games in a much older engine.

Complete overhaul mods, adding in content in the newer games, creating unique and often interesting fakemon (some of which are technically canon but not official).

So I went crazy and started downloading ROM hacks for Pokémon. Then I thought, "Surely there are romhacks for other games?"

The answer to that was, "not really." There are translation mods and glitch mods, but there are not a lot of "Let's add a lot of genuine gameplay to this old game" that's done in the scene.

After I obtained several dozen romhacks for Pokémon games from Crystal to Black, I thought to myself "I can't play all of these back to back, half of these are just Emerald mods. I'll burn myself out at this rate." So I decided to pace myself by playing every other turn based RPG in between any given Pokémon Rom hack.

So I grabbed every game boy ROM in the RPG category and went to town.

I had another thought, though, "if my phone can emulate Game Boy games and DS games, maybe it can emulate psone games or even PSP games.

So I installed every RPG that came out for the PSP and PSone that I could think of and added those to the list of games I'd emulate.

I got tired of using the virtual game pad, so I bought an entire controller and paired it.

After a couple of years, I returned home and dug up my old hardware. Found out that the server of basically every game I played was dead, so in order to make use of my old game consoles and handhelds, I had to jailbreak all of them.

So I did, from Mcfreeboot to Godmod9 I jailbroke my devices and any services like community servers or a romhack gift shop opened itself up to me. I reformatted a handful of 64 Gigabyte SD cards and gave my devices the storage I would have only dreamed of back in the day.

But I was worried, what if my PS3 games are lost forever due to my console dying? What if I want to continue playing Little Big Planet 2 even after my PS3 dies?

So I bought a PC specifically optimized for emulation and I started emulating PS3 and PS2 and Psone games. I figured out how to convert, export, and import save files for all those devices and the PSP and now the save file my friend made for his play through of Digimon World in 2003 can now be played on my PCSX2 system in the current day.

My phone is tiring out on me. It can't handle streaming videos, handling various misc apps that I use on top of streaming videos, and me playing games on it all at the same time. Half the time my progress in a game is dropped because my phone can't process all of that.

So I bought an AYN Odin Pro, and now I emulate almost everything on this one device, and the rest I run on my Beelink.

None of my devices can emulate PS4 or Xbox Series S games, but I genuinely have no idea what's worth playing beyond that point because I don't buy first party games, so those new games come out on steam. Don't need emulation or a new console there now, do I?

Steam Deck is doing gang busters, and I feel like the future of gaming is handheld emulation devices playing games long abandoned by its original creators.

But what do I know? I'm totally indoctrinated by the seven seas of piracy. Now, if you don't mind me. I'm going to figure out whether I can turn a bricked PS4 into a Linux machine...

A member in Yuval’s Circus-specializes in marionette. Elipse was the leader of the Nihilego group who also the first Nihilego to ever born, being the leader means she’s super strong. But as the first one, Elipse is some kinds of “broken”, her personality, actions and thinking are much like a child. Elipse is like a “flat image”, and also almost transparent. Her legs are “straight”, don’t have any curves, which is why Elipse floats all the times.

Base prices:

Clean sketch: bust- $25, halfbody- $35, full body-$45    

Flat colors: bust-$50, half body- $60, full body- $75    

Lined cellshade: bust-$65, half body-$85, full body-$130    

Illustration: bust- $80, half body- $125, full body- $160

*I will charge extra for complicated armor, jewelry, weapons, props, wings/tails/horns, and additional characters. -Commissions not yet worked on will receive a full refund. -Commissions partly in progress will receive a refund based on how far along I am with it. Refunded amount is based on my hourly progress with it and is non-negotiable, so please understand this!

The commission process is as follows: 

If you’re coming off of a waitlist, please know that you will have 72 hours to communicate with me on what you’d like. If I do not receive any information from you (even if you need more time to decide on what you want), you may lose your spot on the roster as I do have other people patiently waiting for their commission, so please keep that in mind!

Once commission inquiry form is submitted, I review the details of the commission

I contact the client back and notify whether or not I’m able to take the commission

A rough sketch is sent (can be 1-3 compositions depending)

I send invoice via paypal- either full payment upfront, or half upfront and then the     remaining half upon completion. Payment plans (of 2-3 increments) are available anything above $100. Anything less than that payment is to be made in full.

Once client pays the invoice, I begin working.

I will send work in progress images as I go along.

Slight adjustments are allowed here. Any major changes will result in compensation for my time.

Completion of commission

I show the final watermarked image to the client.

Client is to send the remaining payment on the invoice (if required)

I send over the finished high resolution file via email.

I may sell fanart commissions at conventions or from my print shop. I have the right to use commission artwork for promotional purposes, unless otherwise stated by the commissioner.

I will never sell pieces including your original characters. They’re yours! I will most likely post the artwork on my social media for promotional purposes however, with all credit given to the commissioner, of course.

You may use the commissioned artwork for personal use (icons, banner, cellphone case, T-shirt, card, etc) so long as it’s for non profit, and solely for your own personal enjoyment or a gift. If the commissioned piece is for a game, book, or anything else, royalties will be discussed. Re-selling the artwork for personal profit is strictly prohibited.

Went out today with @kittyxartist to our town’s cat themed coffee shop: The Gatto Cafe. We had some delicious cake, awesome iced green tea, and of course we had to do cat themed drawings. Espeon Gijinka and random Loli-Cat-girl in my case, while Kitty did regular Espeon (and Umbreon), and Niko from One shot.

Commission Recommendations

I do not take commissions personally (I don’t have a working PayPal! D:) but I can recommend buddies of mine who do! Together they have a range of styles and specialisations, so I’m sure one of them with meet what you’re looking for. I also met all of them via the Fallout fandom, so while they’re all flexible artists with differing strengths, know that if you’re following me for Fallout content all of them can handle it!

Note: they might not be taking them CURRENTLY - their slots might be full, they might be busy with work or college, they might be on a wellness break. But these are all people I can recommend who regularly take commissions, so if they’re not open right now, they may be soon!

People (including ghouls) and monsters make up most of his content. He’s great at full-art paintings, but rarely takes commissions for them as they are very time-consuming (and priced to match). ❖  @yabbyabb  (see also: @hatchanddixie) Soft playful shapes. EXCELLENT choice for cute and fluffy content. Will also draw monsters, esp monster-girls. Cartoons, avatars/icons. ❖  @dunesand Specialises in character designs and costuming. Can draw your characters or design you a new one! Humans, monster-humans, gijinkas, more. Highly detailed work. Has a personal interest in cultures of eastern Asia, esp of fashions. The passion shows in their work! I especially love their use of layers in costumes and the mask aesthetic. Tasteful/artistic nudity is okay, but no sexual content. NSFW: ❌ 🚫: explicit content, fetish

@surk3 Specialises in monsters, demons, distorted beasts, and designs of same. Beautiful digital painting! Her rendering is seriously unreal. An excellent choice is you want something slick, scaly, or creepy. Loves to try different styles from common media, ranging from cartoons to realistic renders, making her an adaptable artist. NSFW: ✔ (with conditions) 🚫: underage/loli, scat (reserves the right to decline fetish case-by-case)

❖  @skizoh High-contrast B/W comic-style, use of silhouettes and harsh lighting. Angular, sharp. Very noir! Her use of colour is usually as a bold accent to dark solid shapes, but she does full-colour painted pieces as well. Usually moody colour schemes (teal, purple, green). She’ll often use high-contrast colour, too - eg main base of dark teal, but with bright orange highlights to really >POP!< Is willing to do explicit content, but exercises personal choice as to fetish pieces. ❖  @ohmdo Raw, textured (GREAT for dark/villainous content!). Stark b/w, or vibrant colour. Excellent use of anatomy and contrast lighting. Most frequently draws monsters, humans, pokemon gijinkas. ❖  @amummy (see also: @amummyart) Specialises in full-colour digital painting. A soft, oily aesthetic, with slick highlights. Great use of geometric shapes. Nudity, intimacy/fluff, and mild gore are okay, but passing on the harder stuff. NSFW: ❌ 🚫: extreme gore, explicit, violence/suggestive vs child/animal

❖  @rhobi (see also: @sunshineart) I’d describe their work as ‘crisp’. Pronounced borders. A sort of cell-shaded, pixel-art style. Humans, ghouls, furries/scalies, beasts, monsters, robots, mechs, more - original or fanart, including turnaround sheets. I personally love their monster designs, and they can design you your own as a commission as well. Their art and personal are the same blog so you can see images at the #art tag!
