I still don't love ride pokemon even though polished crystal forcing me to actually strategize my team made me realize what a setback it is to have like 8 of your teams move's reserved for traversal via the HM system. I think a system that would be more fun is having a ride system where you got to select eligible pokemon from your collection to serve you in that capacity without necessarily taking up a move (or even party) slot. It was just nice knowing it was one of your dudes toting you around, and not some random beast you don't care about who makes you wear a goofy helmet. I know that's a little pie in the sky because it would require a good deal of animation work and gamefreak struggles to release their feature deplete games in a functional state already thanks to the dog ragged schedule they're run on but that would be my dream.

also the stupid bike pokemon in s/v is the nadir that thing is so repulsive and uncool
