What's really interesting and kind of unique about Jod as an ascended god is that, in defiance of all the classic tropes about hubris and divinity, John himself is not really interested in power. He never sought his power out, he never fought for it, and he's not insecure about his ability to keep it.

The power just happened to him, and then he went absolutely bugfuck insane in persuit of what does motivate him: bloody-minded vengence against the capitalist world order and, most of all, overwhelming fear of abandonment.
