bethany developed into the stronger mage, in terms of the raw force she was able to call upon, but struggled to master control and consistency. tabby couldn't match her sister in terms of power, but cultivated more precision in order to get the most out of her talents, developing a unique and subtle fighting style that augmented the physical skills she had honed (along the lines of the arcane warrior/spirit warrior specs).

malcolm passed along the chantry line regarding benevolent spirits and malicious demons. more comfortable in her own self-control than bethany, tabitha also feels less guarded (though not entirely un-guarded) interfacing with helpful spirits.

I'm trying to work through tabby's backstory of being a mage but presenting solely as a warrior and I think she started practicing swordplay in earnest when it became clear that carver wasn't developing the same magical talents and was feeling left out of magic lessons with dad, so the two of them would have something they could do together like she did with bethany, but then she ended up being better than him at magic and at swordplay (she's got a five year lead on you bro it's fine it's chill you'll catch up) so that did not entirely help matters
