Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe counterparts/matchups
Superman = Raiden - The ultimate defenders of their worlds. Superman is like a god while Raiden is literally one...well, before New MK1 came along.
Batman = Liu Kang - The greatest human defenders of their respective teams...at least before Liu Kang became the Fire God. Both are expert martial artists and have an animal motif going on (Liu Kang has a dragon theme while Batman's is self-explanatory).
Wonder Woman = Kitana - Warrior princesses from other worlds. Depending on which version you're going with, they also have close relationships with Batman and Liu Kang.
Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) = Kuai Liang (Scorpion/Sub-Zero) - Members of councils who often share their mantles with other figures in the canon (Hal is part of the Green Lantern Corps while Kuai Liang is a member of the Lin Kuei clan, and later the Shirai Ryu clan in New MK1). Green Lantern's ring and Sub-Zero's ice often function similarly with both of them being able to create practically anything with them.
The Flash = Kabal - Super speedsters who often can be snarky.
Aquaman = Rain - Royal figures who are hydrokinetic and can manipulate the weather.
Deathstroke = Hanzo Hasashi (Scorpion) - Top ranking assassins who left behind their families from previous lives.
Catwoman = Sonya Blade - Arguably the most recognizable female characters besides Wonder Woman and Kitana, they're often on opposite sides of the law since Sonya is a Special Forces agent while Catwoman is a burglar. They too have close relationships with Batman and Liu Kang (mostly in my works based on MK, and even in the Jeff Rovin novel).
Dick Grayson (Robin/Nightwing) = Kung Lao - The partners/sidekicks to Batman and Liu Kang, they too are skilled martial artists.
Cyborg = Jax - African-American males who are cybernetically enhanced.
Starfire = Li Mei - Female fighters who can fire plasma/nova blasts. They also have close relationships with Dick Grayson and Kung Lao (at least in my works based on MK).
Raven = Ermac - Figures who use telepathy and dark magic.
Beast Boy = Nightwolf - Characters who can morph into animals.
Shazam = Fujin - Godly figures who are somewhat connected to Superman and Raiden.
The Joker = Kano - Psychopathic criminals with a penchant for knives and a twisted sense of humor.
Harley Quinn = Mileena - Seductive yet playful and twisted femme fatales.
Green Arrow = Kung Jin - Archers who are also skilled martial artists.
Black Canary = Sindel - Authority figures who are also mothers and have ultrasonic screams.
Blue Beetle = Takeda - Young heroes who have an insect motif.
Booster Gold = Johnny Cage - Egotistical celebrity heroes.
Katana = Kenshi - Japanese fighters who wield swords that have the souls of family members trapped in them.
Sinestro = Bi Han (Sub-Zero/Noob Saibot) - Darker foils to Green Lantern and Kuai Liang who used to fight for good until they became villains who invoke fear.
Killer Croc = Reptile - Sideshow freaks with a strong reptilian theme.
Lobo = Baraka - Deadly otherworldly beings.
Bane = Goro - Behemoth fighters with a level of intellect. They also have pivotal roles against Batman and Liu Kang (while Bane broke Batman's back, Liu Kang defeated Goro to become the Mortal Kombat champion).
Doctor Fate = Shang Tsung - Sorcerers.
Lex Luthor = Quan Chi - Power-mad and intellectual villains.
Darkseid = Shao Kahn - Tyrannical rulers bent on conquering worlds.
That's all for now. I did leave some characters out, but these are who I could think of at the moment. If you view them differently, it's all good.

Cornwall's Random Card of the Day #600: Cho-Manno, Revolutionary
Title Drop!
Cho-Manno, Revolutionary is a rare from Mercadian Masques. This guy was the head of the rebellion in Mercadia, trying to overthrow their oppressive hegemony(good on em). You might be forgiven for thinking that Lin-Sivvi was the leader, since she was the focal point of the Rebels deck and lynchpin of making the whole thing work, but, no, it was this guy.
Add this to the "seems super broken when you're only just picking up the game" list cause he can be destroyed neither by combat, nor red removal. Which seems good, till you realise black removal is totally a thing that can and will kill him. Dies to Doom Blade. Also a 2/2 can be blocked forever by any creature with 3 or higher toughness. BUT YOU CAN AUGMENT IT- yes but you could augment any creature, and doing so here will only make it worse when the black player starts thinking you're a threat. Better to augment something with a higher power, perhaps.
I don't reckon we'd see this effect again in the game for anything costing less than 7 mana, though, since it ALSO falls into the "old card which is miserable to play against or worthless depending on the matchup" list. Against red decks, this thing will likely stop you winning. Against decks with non-damage-based removal, or with tough walls and fliers, or any number of other common things, it's an overcosted bear.

hii id like to request a matchup as i see you’re doing them! id prefer characters from twisted wonderland or enstars, i dont really play obey me. umm for my personality i feel like i’m an ambivert, more on the introvert side! i’m very reserved for the first few months of meeting but i can really open up fast depends on my mood or the environment! i dont talk much and am not a sappy person either mainly due to not being very great with words. i like to think that i’m funny but i laugh at almost everything i’m starting to doubt it…i enjoy helping others with tasks and such! i’m indecisive so having someone who can make quick decisions for me in those moments r great if i really like u i will be a little mean at first but after a while i think im very nice and will even take initiative which i dont do often. i think an important thing too about me is if i don’t really have anything in common with a person it’s very difficult for me to talk to them. i dislike small talk because i feel like i’m too awkward for that. despite me being more of an introvert, i get lots of energy being around people but also lose the energy a bit fast too.
a few things i like are bats, lamps, fashion, music, games, art, plants and learning about space. I also enjoy watching movies and baking. also, i’d like someone the opposite of me, someone who uses their words. i’m the type of person to overthink things if they’re not told to me. or if i’m told to do something i need detailed and specific steps also bc communication is #1 in my book. Also i really enjoy learning about people. If i’m interested in someone i will try to learn every single little fact about you. Especially if they’re a closed off person at first like me it makes me all the more interested in knowing more.
umm i really don’t know what else to add so that’s all i have to say i hope i didnt put too much! idk if you reply w/ the request or use anon names/emojis so if do use names my names lin. do take your time and i hope u have a great dayyy
First of all, I'm sorry this is so late! I don't have any excuses, I was just lazy 🥲 I'm gonna match you with a twst character if that's okay!
lin, I match you with...
TREY!
He finds it cute how you laugh at almost everything. You help him in the kitchen for Heartslabyul's unbirthday parties so that the freshmen don't offer to help...if you've read Trey's dorm uniform card, you know...
Pretty sure Heartslabyul students have to be well-versed in gardening to be able to take care of roses, so he would be open to talking about gardening too. Trey finds it kind of weird how you ask him so many questions, but after you explain he's glad you opened up and want to know more about him.
Trey has younger siblings, so he understands your energy levels around people. He can read body language well cough* riddle *cough cough* so he quickly finds a way to excuse both of you from the situation.
I also get the feeling that Trey's good at making decisions, so you don't have to worry about that.
He will prank you. 100% guaranteed. If you believe the oyster sauce thing, I am confident he will bake two pastries and ask you to guess which one's sweet.
👏NETFLIX👏AND👏CHILL. That's your ideal date together. Please stop this man from putting Riddle's needs ahead of his.
Overall, a very soft, very cute relationship. Riddle doesn't mind you, you're not as rowdy as the Adeuce duo (aka you don't give him a headache), Cater will DEFINITELY take lots of pictures if you've announced you two are dating (even if you didn't, he'd still ship you).
Sorry, this was a little short. Hope you enjoyed it!

you know how occasionally in a sports playoff, especially one with geographical selection instead of pure ranked seeding, there will be a tougher matchup in the first or second round than you wind up with in the final? I think this was that. Glad my girl Lin won though 💪

CANELO ÁLVAREZ VIRTUAL WORKOUT QUOTES AND PHOTOS

Published: September 13, 2023
LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. – September 13, 2023 – Undisputed Super Middleweight World Champion Canelo Álvarez showed off the skills that have made him a global superstar during a live-streamed workout Wednesday as he prepares to take on Undisputed Junior Middleweight World Champion Jermell Charlo, headlining a SHOWTIME PPV on Saturday, September 30 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Canelo Promotions will present the Premier Boxing Champions Pay-Per-View.
Canelo can add yet another benchmark to his already historic career with a triumph over Charlo and, in doing so, become the first man during the four-belt era to defend all four titles successfully three consecutive times.
Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Canelo Promotions and TGB Promotions, are available through AXS.com.
Wednesday’s workout streamed live on the SHOWTIME Sports YouTube channel and SHOWTIME Boxing Facebook Page and also featured Canelo’s renowned manager and trainer, Eddy Reynoso. Here is what they had to say from their Lake Tahoe training camp:
CANELO ALVAREZ
“I always want to make the best fights out there. I’m excited to be in this fight. This is a fight that people have talked about for a while. I’m excited to show the Charlos my skills. Now Jermell is gonna feel my skills.
“I think Jermell Charlo is the perfect fight right now. He’s been calling me out for a long time, and I never forget. He’s said a lot of things. He never believed in my skills, but he’s gonna find out soon. Him and his brother didn’t believe in my skills, and that motivates me for this fight.
“We always prepare 100% no matter where we are. It’s different being here. At the beginning, I couldn’t breathe very well. But right now, I feel great. I’ve found a place that’s made me happy and strong.
“Charlo will be good at 168 pounds. I’ve made that jump before, so I know. I think that when you’re a great champion like he is, it doesn’t matter.
“These kinds of fights motivate me. I like being underestimated. That’s what makes me excited for this fight.
“I always believe that I’m number one. My whole career. Because you need to believe in yourself, I still believe I’m number one. But I believe there is more than just one fighter alone at the top, there are a few.
“I still feel young and fresh. I never think about the end of my career. I just train and fight year after year. I still feel that I’m at my best.
“I’m very proud to represent Mexico. I have a lot of pride in my country. I feel amazing when I walk into the ring, see all the Mexican flags, and hear the Mexican music. It feels great to represent my country.
“I feel great. This is really one of the best camps I’ve ever had. I feel great to be able to train 100% now with my left hand. That’s made me more confident. When you train knowing that you’re healthy, you’ll be more confident in the fight.
“I like being here in Lake Tahoe because I’m 100% focused. It’s just me and my team, and we’re focused on the fight. It makes me feel ready for the fight.”
EDDY REYNOSO, Canelo’s Manager and Trainer
“This is gonna be a great fight. Jermell is a great fighter who’s accomplished a lot in his career, so the fans are going to get an excellent matchup.
“There are times in a career where you have to change things up like training camp locations. We spent five or six years in San Diego and got a lot of great results. The altitude has been great for us here, and we feel very good in Lake Tahoe as well.
“Canelo is ready to fight whoever it may be. Right now, we’re squarely focused on Jermell Charlo, and that’s our task on September 30. We’ll be ready for whoever comes after that.”

Week 1 Recap
High Score
bluemonkeyballs - The defending champs picked up right where they left off, destroying Tricks Named Jim in their Week 1 matchup. It was a balanced attack, with Brandon Aiyuk (8/129/2) leading the receivers and Austin Ekeler (117/47/1) commanding the running game. After this dominant start, it looks the only thing potentially cockblocking the balls could be a looming quarterback controversy after Tua Tagovailoa thoroughly outplayed Jalen Hurts.
Player of the Week
Tyreek Hill made some news this offseason when he mentioned that he uses Madden to scout opposing CBs. It clearly worked out for him in week 1, as he dominated the Chargers with 11 catches for 215 yards and 2 TDs. Reached for comment on his couch, coach Craig Wickersham paused his game to say, "I agree, Madden knows all," before returning to trash talking a 12-year old on XBox Live.
Turd of the Week
Game of the Week
Brown Wives Matter vs. The Six - After finishing 2nd and 3rd last year, both squads were eager to make a statement in their week 1 matchup. Coach Tilley continued to ride the wave of Justin Jefferson (typically the #1 pick in most leagues, but a 9th round keeper for the Wives) to the tune of 9 receptions and 150 yards. But coach Desai had more than enough firepower among his receivers, with both Stefon Diggs (10/102/1) and Calvin Ridley (8/101/1) surpassing Jefferson's point totals. In the end, it came down to Josh Allen shitting the bed on Monday night with 3 costly interceptions.
What 2 Watch 4 Week 2
cheetalive vs. Kaepernicklin - After a disappointing week 1 in which his bench literally outscored his starting lineup, we'll see if coach Joyce gets really bold this week and starts Tyler Allgeier and Rashid Shaheed over Derrick Henry and Keenan Allen. On the other side, coach Lin will have to figure out something to jumpstart his passing game after none of his receivers managed a double-digit fantasy day in week 1. A good place to start might be remembering that JuJu Smith-Schuster no longer plays with Patrick Mahomes.
Brown Wives Matter vs. Turdburners - Every season WHL fans wait with bated breath for the moment. But this year it only took 1 week for the Turfburners to complete their glorious transformation into the Turdburners. Coach Africa's squad pulled off the rarely seen double zero, with both Drake London and Dallas Goedert registering no fantasy points. In week 2, they draw a motivated Wives squad looking to avoid their first 0-2 start since 2019.

Republicans are Right That Federal Budgeting is a Joke! But Threatening America’s Credit is Even Dumber
— United States | Lexington | February 2nd, 2023
Although No Other Two-Word Combination may so prompt eyes to glaze and minds to wander, the history of America can be understood as a struggle over its budget process. After colonial legislatures restricted governors’ powers to tax and spend, parliament struck back by passing the Stamp Act to tax the colonies—and everyone knows the trouble that led to.
After the Declaration of Independence, the articles of confederation gave each state a veto over federal borrowing, dooming America’s credit and stunting its growth. Even Thomas Jefferson, that scourge of big government, saw the problem. While serving as minister to France he wrote to James Madison in 1788 that America had to prove it could be trusted to pay its debts. “The existence of a nation, having no credit, is always precarious,” he wrote. Jefferson supported the Constitution, with its enhanced federal powers, partly to boost America’s reputation as a borrower.
Alexander Hamilton then persuaded him to go further. As the first Treasury secretary, Hamilton urged consolidating the debts of individual states and imposing new tariffs to pay them off. America’s debt “was the price of liberty,” he told Congress in 1790, and sound national credit would swell “the individual and aggregate prosperity of the citizens”. Or, as his avatar would exhort “Jefferson” on stage more than two centuries later, good credit was “a financial diuretic/How do you not get it?”
It was in that grand tradition, though with less evident grandeur of vision, that Kevin McCarthy, the House speaker, visited the White House on February 1st to square off with President Joe Biden over the budget. Even an imagination as rich as Lin-Manuel Miranda’s might struggle to conjure an epic rap battle from this matchup. (Sampling from their public remarks—Biden: The last guy who was president/increased the debt by 25 percent. McCarthy: (dabbing) When do you want to play/I’m not going to just move on the same way!)
And yet, as Mr Miranda might put it, history has its eyes on them: America’s credit teeters in the balance. Pressured by his berserker caucus, Mr McCarthy is demanding cuts in exchange for raising the debt ceiling, the limit to federal borrowing. The standoff has Washington’s jaded federal class rolling its eyes, as it has learned to do from past confrontations, while—it also does this every time—mumbling, as a warding spell, that this time may be different. It may be, given Mr McCarthy’s weak hold on a majority.
These debt-ceiling fights are American governance at its most stupid. As achievements in hypocrisy and self-defeat, they cannot be beat. When Republicans had unified control of government under Donald Trump, they freely raised the ceiling and, with it, the debt, while Democrats, for all their piety now, have also used the debt ceiling for leverage. As for self-defeat: the last time a Republican House pursued such brinkmanship the president was, of course, a Democrat (Barack Obama), and the result was a jump in rates that may have added half a billion dollars to the debt.
These episodic standoffs are revelatory also because they expose an underlying erosion of governance. The Republicans who are stamping their feet have a point. The budget process, if called to account for the meaning of either word, makes a mockery of both. While over the years the branches of government traded authority over budgeting, someone was always taking it seriously. This century, that has changed, as the debt-to-gdp ratio has almost tripled, to 98%. Debt held by the public stands at $24trn, and 7% of federal spending—some $400bn a year—goes to service it. After decades of low inflation, rising rates have reminded Americans how debt can become dangerous.
By law, Mr Biden is supposed to submit his budget on the first Monday in February, but he is going to miss the deadline for the third year, this time, reportedly, by a month. That is not good government. Congress also ignores its legal obligations to account for the public’s money. In 2022, when Democrats controlled the House and the Senate, neither budget committee bothered to draft a budget resolution, meant to frame Congress’s vision of revenue and spending. In the end, a few legislators vanished into the room where these things happen and emerged with a 4,155-page, $1.7trn “omnibus” bill. Congress slammed it through and President Biden signed it just in time to avert another government shutdown.
It may be cause for hope that the two periods of seriousness about budgeting in the past 30 years occurred when a Democratic president faced a Republican House: under Mr Obama and under Bill Clinton. Lexington, dewy-eyed, was at the White House in 1998 when Mr Clinton announced the budget would soon balance, for the first time since 1969. His aides forecast “surpluses as far as the eye can see”.
Throwing Away Their Shot
It is hard not to mourn the America that might have been, had George W. Bush chosen to raise taxes amid the solidarity after the attacks of 9/11 rather than cut taxes while going to war in Iraq. Then came the global financial crisis and the even more feckless Trump tax cuts, followed by the covid crisis.
Both parties have learned that, by luxuriating in polarisation, they can ignore that governing requires trust and compromise. Republicans can have their tax cuts, Democrats can have their spending, and they can blame each other for the debt. “We have all lost the view that the budget is the starting point of what government does,” says Maya MacGuineas, who wages a lonely fight from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a non-profit. “It’s about confronting trade-offs.”
As Hamilton told Congress, “States, like individuals, who observe their engagements, are respected and trusted: while the reverse is the fate of those, who pursue an opposite conduct.” Whether or not extremists or bumblers breach the debt ceiling this time, America’s lawmakers are not heeding his warning. ■
