something that makes me go apeshit is that the further i learn more about each of my nations' creation stories i get like really. emotional. in the indigenous view, creation was not a top down, punitive affair where a violent & authoritarian god expels & brutally punishes you if you fail to follow his rules, the world came into being as a consequence of democratic agreement & the efforts & even life sacrifice of many, creation was egalitarian, cooperative, democratic, & supportive, built on compassion & sacrifice for others & depending on the creation story, animals & nature helped create the world & in the huron-wendat story specifically each animal did what it could to help the ill-fated sky woman. & like. it wasn't even that we didn't believe in the image of a white authority or a patriarchal creator god, we also didn't believe in a cosmic evil. there was no word for hell or a conception of a land of punishment where the wicked went after death & certainly didn't believe there was a cosmic evil out to get us. these were all concepts brought by white colonizers & they were concepts criticized by our elders who didn't believe in a central creator who NEVER used threat to control.
