i think chilchuck and laios don't start becoming involved until after the events of dungeon meshi. this is partially because i think chilchuck should at least somewhat try to mend things with his wife (or at least officially end things) but also because i think laios becoming king WOULD make chilchuck go "okay i need to kill any feelings i have for this man"

#random thoughts #dungeon meshi #chilchuck is very conscious of power dynamics in relation to him #and he strives for laios and him to be equals #and for laios to have so much more power than him all of a sudden?#like. chilchuck is used to feeling powerless. a lot of what he does is to use what he can to his advantage to keep himself from being hurt #and laios being king? ohhhh god. that's a huge power imbalance and he does NOT like it #there's also that fear that laios's newfound power will cause him to start treating those around him (read: chilchuck) worse #like unconsciously #there's ALSO that fear that people will accuse him of marrying up #which is bull but i think chilchuck holds a lot of pride in working for what he has #and he doesn't want to make people think he's seducing the king into changing laws or whatever #imagine evil seductress chilchuck. have that image in your brains
