#like you're just gonna Encourage minors to lie about their age if they're determined to see your content

I gotta word this very carefully else I risk summoning the Disk Horse, but... since my return to NSFW Tumblr I've noticed a lot of people being very strict about blocking anyone who doesn't have their exact ages in their bio (like, even "over 18" or "late 20s" isn't enough for some folk). And like, of course you've got the right to restrict your content as you see fit, especially when it comes to protecting your adult space from minors, but I genuinely do not get the point in being that specific?
Like, how is having your actual age in your bio any more helpful than just asserting you're over 18 when you could be lying either way? I have my age in my bio of all my blogs just cause it doesn't feel like super important info to me, but for the people who do wanna be as vague as "21+" or "thirtysomething" etc, it feels weird thinking they should be restricted from accessing adult spaces.
Idk I just remember when the norm across the internet was informing people your content was for over-18s and only taking action when you actually suspected minors were involved, and I totally support individuals deciding to be more proactive than that, but I worry that this is just another way it's becoming normalised to expect personal info from strangers on the internet.
#like#am i gonna get cancelled for just saying my content is 18+ because I'm not doing everything i physically can to prevent minors?#like you're just gonna Encourage minors to lie about their age if they're determined to see your content#idk maybe I'm overthinking#i often do#also i know the comparison is like IDing people in irl spaces#but again#that's a lot harder to fake and the ones who are gonna do it are gonna do it#and you only tend to ID people you think could be minors#its challenge 25 not challenge everybody#idk I'm rambling now
