i keep going back and forth on if Mira's epilogue bothers me or not, actually, a day later (because you can't love something without acknowledging a flaw)
Because she was set up with big Red Ranger energy!!!!!!!!!!! she wanted to help the team get along, she's always active in something, i think she may have had the most spotlight episodes overall...? and Taiya, he of the "able to have whole-ass discussions via stare with Chashiro", was pretty consistently admiring her or giving her meaningful stares. The team even specifically leaves Mira to keep an eye on Taiya during his breakdown in the last few episodes!
Except for the finale itself, she bookends the series. She got control of the BBG for Boondorio (so she could hand it back to the proper ones to make it fair), enabling him and Taiya to go race in it.
So I was so expecting Taiya and Boondorio to take off to run the BBG and leave Mira in charge of the BoonBoomgers.
And instead she goes with them, with everyone except for Sakito and Byoon D.
Which feels like her following another's dream and not stepping up as the leader they set her to be... except they very clearly frame Sakito's staying behind as a way of caretaking Taiya's dream, and that would have rankled if it was Mira, in a way it doesn't with Sakito because of him having an arc about being a drifter up until now. Especially as the only girl fully on the team, the implicit sexism of leaving just her behind would have been palpable.
So in the context of most of the team going to drive the BBG with Boondorio, it works. I'm just not sure if it overall works, quite, based on what felt like obvious set-ups.
BoonBoomger stuck the landing and I am so fucking happy
Like, that was peak hype, from normal opening (SO YOU KNOW. WHAT IS COMING.) to Chashiro taking on Grantz (do wish we got more with him, glad our support boy finished Spinder's support boy) to the "we're going to change the world" to Boondorio tanking a shot for everyone
The final, FULL roll call
And we didn't even finish with a giant robot battle! Because this show values the emotional payoffs more, and it was more important to see Boondorio and Taiya take on Spinder then for Boondorio to try and reach out to him (the same way Taiya is still reaching out to Naito after his arrest)
I have some quibbles about the epilogue (what do you MEAN the goons are taking off on their own instead of helping Sakito as a BoonBoomger b-team or something) but in a "oh i guess!" way instead of a "that sucks..." way.
I just. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
idk i feel like i should have something more *solid* to say but for now this'll do. I'll poke at it a bit here and there.
