Honestly, DOD funding & de-funding films, and the movies that reject DOD funds (bc then there is literally military oversight of your script, direction, and editing every step of the way, to make sure it's positive passive propaganda) is fascinating, mainly because it's horrifying.
It's not overt propaganda, but any movies with like a lot of military vehicles, or military extras, or where a character goes out of their way to mention military training (generally in a way that makes them look badass, but is otherwise 100% irrelevant to the plot), especially ones that name-drop real military agencies vs. fictional ones (the CIA vs. the BPRD, for example)? They probably cashed some fat military checks while not having to pay to rent trucks, hire extras, borrow uniforms, etc.
Same thing goes for media featuring cops, though there's generally more leniency just because police departments don't sponsor media the way the DOD ponies up for military projects. But even in stories about dirty cops & corruption, it's rare for the whole system & its participants to be indicted. Because there's money in continuing to press the message that the military & police are forces for good. And that money comes from those agencies themselves, as an investment in & insurance on public perception/public relations.
