firstly I’m not trying to talk about Elton’s real life relationship with John here but mostly the perspective the movie gave that led the fandom to outright hate John but like yeah literally everyone bashes and hates on John Reid and obviously there are reasons why they would but everyone is so quick to think Elton is the victim (and it is kinda depicted that way in the movie for a more dramatic effect esp after John hits him) but like Elton even admits he was such an asshole to people and (1/2)

and even if it wasn’t during their relationship he was still aggressive and just plain mean to people and obviously he was suffering from addiction and all of that clearly and the issues with his parents and all but I feel like as a fandom everyone is so quick to stick the blame on others that aren’t Elton when he isn’t innocent at all himself like all of the things that he did can be explained through all of the things he went through but they aren’t excuses and no one seems to get that???

YES YOU SAID IT PERFECTLY and I just hate this trend of woobifying?? babying??? infantilising???? Elton because everyone who does that just misses the point of the movie SO fucking hard, like literally the main theme of rocketman is growth and that we're all human and noone is perfect, it shows elton's every flaw and the way he acted (he LITERALLY says, in the movie, that he acted like a cunt for years), and people just brush that off and say shit like "Wow everything would've been perfect if it wasn't for J*hn" no??? Just,,,, ?????? I can't even properly express what I think but like The entire point of rocketman is to show that noone is perfect and to show all the mistakes and bad circumstances that led Elton into his downward spiral, some of which were his own but that's okay because we're all human and we all make mistakes and noone is perfect
