"I'm sick of people portraying this character as-" "I'm tired of seeing-" "I'm tired of fics where-"
okay then WRITE YOUR OWN. if you don't like the way others write your favorite characters, if you don't like certain tropes or scenarios, if you don't like certain headcanons, you're not obligated to read any of it. you are free to write your own shit. nothing is stopping you. fanfic writers don't owe you anything, and neither do authors, showrunners, etc. we're not here to cater to your own special little headcanons. we're here to tell stories we'd like to see and share them with people who want to see them. that's all. so stop complaining, and go make your own.

The Way Back. IV
Tumblr media
WC:4.9k
eventual bucky x reader. maybe steve x reader. im still deciding dontshootme
Summary: These powers were meant to help people. Help The Avengers, your family. It felt like every time you used them, something bad always happened. Maybe someone has the answers, somewhere.
Masterlist
AN- not really proofread, all mistakes are my own. please enjoy!
Previously:
Howard nodded along, giving you soft, encouraging words whenever you would pause. He took the empty tea cup from your hands, placing it on the nightstand. he waited a moment more, searching for any lingering signs of tears or heartache.
He clears his throat, "Maybe you should look for a way back to your time, honey," he says quietly. His eyes dart away from yours when your head snaps up.
"But-"
"I know," his reassuring smile is sad and doesn't reach his eyes. "Maybe you just need the closure of seeing Tony okay," It's hard for Howard to talk about his son he doesn't have, only knowing about him from the stories you've told.
"What about you?"
"You need to stop worrying about everyone ese, Y/N. And worry about yourself."
You sigh. It feels like a weight is lifted off your shoulders, "I'll think about it, ok?"
Howard nods, his hands falling on top of yours and then squeezing, "Get some rest, kid."
The next few weeks go by quickly. You haven't made your mind up to visit the Sanctum or not yet. So, you throw yourself into organizing the Stark Expo. Contacting vendors and scientists, the list Howard gave you is long, and you wonder if even half the people will respond because of the war over seas.
You're surprised to hear back from almost all of the people on the list. Using Howard's blueprint of the grounds, you set the vendors and creators all throughout the area, making sure to place everyone just far enough apart to not be overwhelming.
One evening, Jarvis drops you off at the Expo fair grounds. Things were still in the process of being built, so you wanted to make sure everything was getting done the way you envisioned it.
"Don't worry about picking me up, J, I'll manage," you smile at him through the open window.
"Alright, Ms Stark. I'll see you later," his smooth English accent carries through the car, and then he drives away.
After entering the fair grounds, you notice a new recruitment banner across from where the main stage would be. A few people were lined up outside. Some were a little eager, while others seemed anxious.
Huh, that's new.
Towards the back of the line, one familiar head of brunette hair stands out, his head bowed low and hands shoved deep into his pockets. You hedge close, maybe it was just your eyes playing tricks on you.
"James?" You ask. You can see his side profile now, getting closer. His head shoots up, eyes wide as they move to focus on you.
"Ch-Charlotte? What, uh, what are you doing here?" Bucky looks up the line, then back to you, stepping out of line to make his way over.
"I could ask you the same thing," you nod toward the sign above. "Thinkin' of enlisting?"
Bucky stares at you for a moment, your arms wrapping around the folder full of permits and city code enforcement papers to your chest. One of his hands comes up to run through his hair. He seems exhausted but puts a smile on his face anyway.
"Well," his hand still in his pocket pulls out an envelope, "I've been drafted, actually," the smile doesn't reach his eyes you notice now, as he looks at the offending piece of paper in his hands.
"Oh, James," you place a hand on his forearm, "I'm sorry." You had no idea he was drafted, Steve never mentioned it.
Bucky shrugs, "My dad seems to be happy about it. Says it'll force me to grow up and take responsibility," he sighs. "My ma, not so much." He shrugs.
"And what does Steve think?"
Bucky shoves the envelope back in his pocket, eyes skating across your face and then off to the side. "He doesn't know. He's been trying to enlist since they opened the first doors for recruitment." Bucky grimaces, "But he's so," he stops and paces away from you, eyes lingering on the ENLIST NOW! sign.
After a few minutes of him being lost in thought, you step closer, peering up at him through your lashes.
"James?" When he slowly drags his eyes to you, you continue, "It's OK to be afraid. No one would think any different."
"Go out dancing with me Friday night," he says suddenly. You laugh, but it doesn't deter him.
You eye him when he turns to you fully, "I'll think about it, pretty boy." The grin he gives you is blinding. "But you have to invite Steve, and maybe I'll say yes." Bucky nods in agreement.
"Ms. Charlotte!" Someone calls, and you turn to see Dr. Erskine, clipboard in hand, and he waves. You return his smile and wave.
Before you walk away to talk to Erskine, you give Bucky a serious look, "tell Steve about the draft. He'll understand. You're his best friend, James, he can't stay mad at you for long." You squeeze his arm before you depart.
When you're halfway to the doctor, Bucky snaps out of his thoughts, "Charlotte," he calls, and you turn to him with a tilt of your head, "how do you do it? How do you know so much?"
You smile and shrug, "comes with the territory," you wink. When you reach Dr. Erskine, he shakes your hand with a smile. "Hello, Doctor, wonderful to see you again."
"Please, Abraham. And it is a pleasure to see you, my dear." He places his hand on the small of your back, ushering you inside the building. You spare one last glance behind you toward Bucky. His eyes are already on you. A light dusting of color goes across his cheeks at being caught.
"Friend of yours?" Abraham asks when he too looks back at Bucky.
Bucky ducks his head and moves to the back of the recruitment line.
"Sort of. A friend of a friend kind of thing."
"He is signing up for the Armed Forces?" Erskine asks. He leads you into his office, leaning against his desk. He offers you a chair in front of him. You sit, pulling at the paper edges inside your folder.
"Not exactly. He was drafted. Things don't really go well for him later in life. Seeing him like this - before - is nice," you absentmindedly say. You look up at him and forget who you're talking to. Eyes wide, as he tilts his head at you. "I- I mean. Shit."
Erskine gives you another once over. Your heart pounding against your rib cage. You could talk your way out of a lot of things. Being friends with Tony for so long and now Howard, you were really good with talking your way out of trouble.
But there was something kind in Abraham's eyes that made you want to tell him everything. Maybe you did, Howard was the only person who knows your secret. You suspect Jarvis does, but he's never brought it up.
"If-if I tell you something, you don't have to believe me - or maybe you'll think I'm crazy, but um-" you look up at him, his eyes still kind, he gives you an encouraging smile. "I'm from the future," you cringe a bit. At least with Howard, he was a man of science. And maybe a little science fiction. He believed you after he saw that faint glowing scar on your chest. He also claimed he was the smartest man alive. Of course, he'd believe you.
Sure, Erskine was a man of science, creating the serum that changes Steve's life forever, but -
You see him nod, eyes taking measured glances across your features.
He hums. It seems like ages before either of you say another word. He puts his clipboard down, hands resting on the desk, and he hums again. Then nods resolutely.
"I see," is all he says. And you're terrified of any word out of his mouth. Your eyes are wide and unblinking, glossy with held back tears.
"How far in the future, my dear?" He isn't condescending when he asks. It's genuine, and you stare at him for a long moment.
It's different telling someone else, someone other than Howard, or Jarvis. It makes it real. Even though literally being in 1943 didn't make it any less real. This seems almost freeing maybe?
"2018," you say quietly. There's a deep breath in, and he's on his feet. You still think the worse, despite the kindness in his eyes. You wish now more than ever, for your phone. Shoot off a text to Howard to come and save you. But there's no one here to save you, but yourself.
"Did we win?" Is all he says, "Do we - I mean -" he looks sad, looking down at his shoes.
"We do."
Bucky had waited for you after your encounter at the Stark Expo grounds. He wanted to meet up again. So you agreed for coffee the next day. And then agreed to go dancing with him and Steve a week from Friday.
**
"What do you mean, 'going out'? Out where?" Howard has his hands on his hips, brow pulled low over his eyes. He's across the room, but you can see him clear as day in the mirror of your vanity. "With who?" he takes a step forward, now crossing his arms over his chest.
"Friends," is all you give him. He scoffs.
"Since when do you make friends?" Where did -" he stops, eyes going wide, then narrowing. "Are these 'friends', boys?"
You scoff again, "they aren't boys, Howie," you fix a rogue strand of hair, rolling your eyes at him in the mirror. "They're friends of mine from -" You stop short because you've said too much now. Howard's arms drop to the side, eyes wide and pleading.
"Y/N, please tell me, it's not who I think it is…"
"it's just dancing, Howie," you turn to him. "I've been doing nothing but work to keep my mind off where I am. I'm stuck here, Howie! I can't ever go home! And I just want to live my life. I - I never got to just… be. I've been fighting for so long, and I'm tired. Howie, I'm so tired."
You look up, trying not to mess your mascara up with unshed tears. You sniffle.
"Can't ever..Y/N.." he takes a step forward, closer to you. "You didn't?"
You look down at your feet, "I went a few days ago," you say quietly. You shrug, "Just to make sure."
Howard paces in a circle, head leaning back as his hands come up to his face as he sighs heavily. The sound muffled, "You told me you changed your mind," his hands come down to rest on his neck and whirl around to face you. "You told me you wouldn't!" There's a glassy shine to his eyes, and he blinks away when you give him a look.
**
For some reason, the giant oak doors seemed ominous here, now, then they did while you lived here.
The New York Sanctum was more intimidating this time around than the first time you stood here with Stephen. You knock on the hard wooden door, the sound echoing and wood hard against your knuckles.
And wait.
The heavy door opens, you half expected Wong to answer with his usual bored attitude, but it isn't him. And you're in a time where you don't know anyone. The Ancient One probably isn't even here in New York. Not that that would ever stop her.
"May I help you, miss?" The man at the door says. He looks down his nose at you, eyes squinting and taking in your attire. As if slacks are a new invention, you roll your eyes.
"I'm here to see The Sorcerer Supreme," you muster up as much confidence as you can, lifting your chin a little higher when the man at the door scrunches his eyebrows in return.
"There is no one by that name here," his accented voice says harshly. He shifts to close the door in your face. "Now please, leave."
You stick your foot into the door before it closes, your hands glow blue for a moment, the Mystic magic forming around your wrists as you hold the door open with your palm. The man on the other side of the door stops, his eyes wide as he stares at your Magic.
You push your way in, side stepping the man and moving further into the foyer. Only a few relics are different in this time. There's no giant Hulk-sized hole in the grand staircase either.
Things are familiar, yet nothing is the same.
"You misunderstand me," you say. The man whirls around, slamming the door closed behind him, as you lean against the banister. "I wasn't asking to see her. I was telling you."
The man does his thing, arms coming around and stance wide to defend, the orange glow of his Mystic Magic spin around his palms.
"No, you misunderstand. I am the protector of this Sanctum, and you will not go further, demon!"
You scoff, "I'm not a demon, dude," rolling your shoulders as you stand," I'm from the future." Your Magic rolls down your arms in a blue glow, the Mystic symbols spinning around your wrists and fanning out to hover around your palms as you mimic his stance.
He doesn't seem to budge. Even with your admission, he goes to attack.
"That is quite enough, Roland," a soft but demanding voice says from the top of the staircase.
You really half expect to see Stephen, but the sight of the Ancient One brings a smile to your face, and tears spring up and burn the back of your eyes as you grin up at her. You turn from the man, Roland, shaking your powers from your limbs and bowing in greeting to your old master. When you stand back up, her eyebrow is raised in amusement.
"And who might you be?" She says as she descends the stairs. "You are no ordinary human if you can see past the perception filter of the Sanctum. And you are trained. Maybe not…" she hums, accessing you.
You wait as her eyes search you, looking for something off - or other - about you.
"My name is Y/N. I'm from 2018. We've met, or we will meet. In the future," you tell her. It's fast and jumbled as you try to get your words out coherently.
The Ancient One hums, arms crossing behind her as she stops in front of you. "How did you get here in 1943?"
"Madam, you can't posi -" Roland goes to interject, but the Anciet One just holds up her hand, never breaking eye contact with you.
"We - my friends and I - were fighting against a mad man," you shake your head at the memory. "He was - is - after the Infinity Stones. He already had 3." You take a deep breath. Willing yourself to continue, you haven't thought about what happened on Titan in a while. Trying not to think about the worst case scenario. Maybe Tony, Stephen, and Peter were okay as long as you didn't think about it.
"he took my friend. He has the Time Stone," At your words, the Sorcerer Supreme takes a step back, eyes widening slightly. You gulp, "my friend was going to give it to Thanos. The mad man with the stones, to-to save my life." You look down at your feet.
"Before the Stone could get to Thanos, I grabbed it, crushed it against my chest," at this you unzip your jacket, showing her the faint pulsing glow of the scar on your chest, "and then I was waking up in a hospital bed here in 1942. A year ago."
When you look back up, she's studying you again. Maybe to see if she can catch a lie, maybe. "What is it you want from me?" She asks cautiously.
"Use the Time Stone to send me back. I have to go back!" You plead. It's silent for a while. The Ancient One paces around the foyer.
She stops after what feels like an eternity, "This friend of yours, the one with the Stone. Is he the Sorcerer Supreme in your time?" Her back is facing you. She turns her head to look over her shoulder at you, and you nod.
"Sort of," you shrug. And when her eyebrow raises at your answer, you tell her. Tell her of how you met Stephen, how you both went to Kamar-Taj and your time together. She trained you to hone your powers. "I- I haven't been able to use them since coming to this time."
"You still haven't answered my question," she says softly, taking in your reaction closely this time. She nods solemnly. "Ah, I see," she holds a hand up when you go to speak, silencing anything else you have to say.
"I think I destroyed the Time Stone," you say after a while. The Ancient One led you to her study, a large room with bookshelves lining the walls. It smells familiar, old leather bound books and incense.
You sit in front of her desk without her prompting you. There's a small smirk on her face.
"So? Can you send me back?" Your leg bounces impatiently.
"I do not believe you destroyed the Stone. Though, I am surprised your - hm - Dr. Strange gave up the Time Stone to begin with," she began. She gave you another once over. "I do believe it sent you here for a reason. However, that reason may have yet to make itself known." She pauses again, eyes focusing in thought.
"I suppose it couldn't hurt to try," she smirks.
You followed the Ancient One to the vault where the Eye of Agamotto is kept. The doors opened as she neared it. The Stone floats out of its cradle and hovers in front of you. It feels like an eternity as you stare at the Stone. You release a breath after it drops into your hands.
The room begins to glow green, and your powers pulse from the scar. It knocks your breath straight from your lungs. Your powers pulse again. It feels like your body has been asleep for the last few months. It's tingly, and you can finally breathe for the first time. Blood flowing to places you seem to have forgotten existed. Your powers beam to life, engulfing your hands in blue.
"Fascinating," the Ancient One mumbles, she moves around your body, accessing the dual glowing from you and the Stone.
"Now, what do I do?" You ask. The glow around the room seems to dim and brighten with each breath you take.
"Try what you did before. We may never know until you replicate it."
You nod, hands glowing a little brighter, you bring the stone to the scar on your chest. You feel a pull tug at the center of your chest, you think of Tony and Peter. Think of Stephen.
When the Stone meets your crystalline scar, there's a blinding green light and a ringing in your ears.
As the light fades, your eyes readjust to your surroundings. The Stone was no longer in y our hands. Your breath hitches at the thought of being back in your own time.
And then the light fades, and the room comes back into focus.
The Ancient One had a serious look on her face, thoughtful and determined. "I see," she says, waving her hands to show the Time Stone back in its place within the Eye.
Tears spring to your eyes, they burn as they come forth, then dribble down your face.
"I'm st-stuck here."
**
You step out of the portal in an alley, a block away from the bar Bucky had told you about. It took a lot of convincing on your part to reassure Howard you would be fine.
You fought aliens and Gods and murder bots. What could possibly go wrong on one night of dancing?
You laugh to yourself quietly as you make your way down the street. It felt really good to use your powers again. The flood gates opening and pouring out, your powers rushing forth felt like cold water on a hot summer day.
Refreshing. Revitalizing.
One day, you'll get used to people giving you odd looks. Only because of your clothing of choice this time, and not because you were an Avenger.
The bar comes into view, and there's a small pit of anxiety crawling up your sides. You inhale a deep breath to calm the sudden onslaught of nerves.
"It's just dancing," you mumble as you open the door. "It's just Steve…and," you glance around the dimly lit room. The music is moderately loud. It smells like smoke and alcohol, stale peanuts, and old beer.
You see him leaning against the bar, one elbow propped up holding a drink and his other hand in his pocket. "Bucky," you exhale. He looks young, is your first thought as you step into the bar more. He's handsome, is your second thought. Youthful and carefree, it's nice to see. It brings a smile to your face. The last memory you have of Bucky is him beaten, bloody, and broken, leaning on an equally beaten Steve as they walked away from you and Tony. Cold and heartbroken in Siberia.
You shake your head, dismissing the thoughts from your mind. Bucky's eyes scan the room, and they land on you. He straightens and smiles bright. It's lopsided and boyish.
"Hey, soldier," you greet him when you stop in front of him. Bucky ducks his head a little, not used to the title.
He takes a sip of his whiskey, eyes roaming your figure. His eyebrows scrunch slightly.
"Charlotte, you - uh - you look ni- beautiful," you think you see a blush rise to his cheeks.
You chuckle, "thank you, James. There's one thing you need to know about me. I don't 'do' dresses," you smirk. He nods his head very fast.
In a sudden burst of confidence, Bucky leans in toward you, a hand hover over the small of your back. You have to tilt your head back to see his face.
"I mean it, you look beautiful, doll," his eyes sparkle as his boyish smrik grows. What a charmer.
"I bet you say that to all the girls, Bucky," you tease, placing a hand on his chest. You push him away slightly so you can order a drink for yourself, but Bucky steps back into your space, holding your hand to his chest.
He looks over your shoulder for a moment, then down at you as he lowers his face next to your ear.
"Maybe, but I'm here with the prettiest dame in Brooklyn tonight. And there's nowhere else I'd rather be."
Oh, he's good. You bring a hand over your mouth to stifle the laugh that wants to bubble out.
"Alright, soldier, buy a gal a drink first," you chuckle. It earns you a bright smile, and Bucky turns to get the bartenders attention.
As you gaze around the bar, you see a familiar head of blonde hair, then realize he's leaving. You turn to Bucky, "why is Steve leaving?" Bucky stiffens next to you. He looks at you from the corner of his eye. "James…?"
Bucky shrugs one shoulder, trying to give you his famous smile, "Don't worry about, Steve. You don't know him like I do. He'll be fine," he hands you your drink, and you glare at it.
"Bucky," he winces. He usually prefers people call him Bucky, but he's gotten used to you calling him James. He doesn't like it. He likes the way you call him James. He hates it.
You turn on your heel, letting out a frustrated sigh as you storm your way out of the bar.
"Charlotte!" You hear Bucky call out, but you ignore him, pushing open the door and stepping out onto the sidewalk.
There's a street lamp right outside the bar, and another on the corner. That's where you see Steve. He's standing under the light, his shoulders slumped, and his hands in his pockets.
"Steve!" You call out as you speed walk toward him. He spins around, eyes frantic until they land on you.
"Charlie? What - "he looks behind you, maybe looking for Bucky, but you shake your head.
"What happened? I thought we were goin' dancing?" You give him a hopeful smile. He avoids your gaze, shuffling on his feet. "Steve?" You reach for his hand, and he lets you take it.
"I told Bucky I'd only agree to go out if you'd be there, too." Steve's head whips up to look at you, eyes wide. "So? Will you come back with me?"
Steve's eye shift between yours, "You mean it?" he asks quietly.
You giggle - down right giggle, something you never do, "Of course, I mean it, Tough Guy. You do look rather handsome, and I'd hate for all the ladies to miss it," you wink at him.
There's a blush creeping up his cheeks, and the street light makes it seem fluorescent. Steve follows you back to the bar, never once taking his hand from yours. He never really noticed until you both are back inside and standing next to Bucky again.
"Now, was that so hard?" You ask the both of them.
Steve goes to tug his hand from yours, "People are staring, Charlie," he tells you.
You snort, taking Bucky's drink from his hand and downing it in one gulp. It burns a little, but you welcome it.
"So what? Let them," you try to tug Steve to the dance floor, but he digs his heels in and pulls his hand free from yours.
"I - uh, I don't dance," he says as he sits on a stool.
"Oh."
Bucky pulls you to him with an arm wrapped around your waist, "C'mon, doll, I'll dance with ya." He grabs your hand and spins you in place and leads you out onto the dance floor.
You don't know how to dance to the upbeat jazz, but Bucky's a good leader, and you've only tripped over your feet a few times, but he doesn't seem to mind. He pulls you close a few times and dips his head down to run his nose along yours, but he always pulls back again when he swings you out for a dip or spin. It makes you laugh, your face hurting from smiling so much.
You and Bucky are out of breath when you catch up with Steve. He found a table in the corner out of the way. It's darker here, and Steve's nursing a beer as he eyes you both.
Bucky helps you sit, tucking your chair in, and he leans down between you and Steve. "I'll grab a round of drinks, be right back."
Your face still hurts from smiling so wide, and you turn to Steve, "I've never danced like that before," you say out of breath. Steve's brows furrow in question. Surely you've danced plenty, you're a sight to look at. Pretty and curvy in all the right places, lots of men would trip over themselves to get to dance with you. But he doesn't say any of that out loud.
From where you're sitting, you can see the majority of the bar, dance floor, and entrance. You can see Bucky leaning against the bar, ordering drinks, a playful smirk on his lips seems to be his default look.
"How come you came tonight if you don't dance?" You ask Steve. He fidgets in his seat. "It's OK if you don't dance, but sitting here watching people, watching Bucky dance with girls. It can't be fun."
Steve huffs and looks back towards the bar, Bucky looks over then, sending Steve a smile, then looks at you with a wink.
Before Steve could reply, the door to the bar bursts open. A frantic looking man paces around the entrance for a minute, and Steve turns to see what the commotion is.
You catch the man's eye, you jump up, chair knocking back and falling to the floor. Steve jumps and looks at you.
Howard catches your eye, you see him visibly relax, you both rush towards each other, and your hands immediately land on his face.
"Howie! What the hell?" There's a cut under his eye, and a bruise forming under the other, his lip is split, and his hair is a wild mess. There's a few faint scratches across his cheek, and oil or dirt smudges across his forehead.
His hands grip your wrists, and you notice a few of his knuckles are split. "Lab accident," he shakes it off. Code for something else. There's no lab at the house. Listen, honey. I uh -" he looks around the bar, noticing a few people staring and muttering. "I need your help, please?"
Your shoulders slump, "but," you look back to your table, Steve and Bucky have concerned looks on their faces. Howard squeezes your wrists, his eyes pleading.
"OK, Howie," you sigh, "I'll come with you."
"That's my girl," he smiles brightly, all previous signs of anxiety vanishing in the blink of an eye. Howard pulls you along, out of the noisy bar and across the street to his car. Fancy and flashy for this side of town.
Before you could reach for the handle, a call of your assumed name comes from the sidewalk across the street. You turn your gaze back to Bucky, and Steve, looking hopeful you'll change your mind and come back.
"Hold on, Howie," you tell him as you make your way back across the street. "I'm sorry, I- um, wouldn't leave if he didn't ask." Your eyes bounce from Bucky to Steve.
"Coulda told us you had a boyfriend, dollie," Bucky all but bites out. He doesn't meet your eye, glaring across the street at Howard, who was leaning against the hood of his car with his arms crossed. "Got yourself a rich fella, yeah?"
You snort, failing to hold in your laughter, "Oh, James, Howard isn't my boyfriend. He's my brother," you laugh again when he and Steve snap their heads to you. You cup one side of each of their faces, placing a quick kiss on their cheeks. In turn, they flush, cheeks turning hot as you retract your hands.
"Stark!" Howard calls from across the street. You can tell he was getting restless. You give Steve and Bucky a wink before you turn and jog over to Howard, "Yeah, yeah, Stark, hold your damn horses."
Bucky and Steve share an equally shocked expression, "Stark?!" they gape after you as Howard starts the car and drives off down the dark street at a very questionable speed.

Fuck around/Find out
Explicit content: Minors please DNI.
Dick x Reader smut AO3 Link
Inspired by Send to All by Kerosceene
Dick asks you to be his fuck or die and you agree. There are consequences to having sex with someone you have feelings for. You're both about to find out.
second person/fuck or die/consent given/sex pollen/ she/her reader / reader has a vagina
“If I was going to die if I didn’t have sex, would you have sex with me?”
There’s no fanfare when Dick asks you this, and it’s so uncharacteristically serious that you can’t help but snort, watching him for that telltale grin of his, and when it doesn’t appear you wonder if you missed something.
“What?” you laugh, confused but still amused.
“If I needed to have sex with you to not die, would you have sex with me?” he clarifies, with a tilt of a smile that does worrying things to your heartbeat, not a skip in the rhythm but more of a stumble. You ignore it in favour of stirring the ice in your drink, listening to the soothing click clack of ice cubes against glass.
“Well yea, but… Blue balls isn’t real Dick, you can’t listen to what Jason tells you.” You lean your head back against the back of the settee and turn to Dick with a smirk on your face.
“One hundred percent you would?” He asks, like he’s needing to catalogue this somewhere in his mind and you frown.
“Well yea, you die or we have sex? We have sex,” you say simply like it’s a formula. “You’d do the same for me, right?” It only feels fair to ask the question back and he nods with an earnest expression.
“Of course.”  His nod is firm and it feels like something like a contract has been signed verbally, though you’re still a little unsure what actually just happened.
And that’s the last you think on it: Not the sex with Dick bit, you think on that a lot and its increasing frequency is getting worrying since he’s a friend, a very good close friend, and you don’t want to ruin that with something so messy as friends with benefits or, even messier, Love.
Yes, capital L, Love
It’s a late August afternoon when there’s a fist pounding at your door and you startle enough that you fumble your phone, juggling it for a moment in the air one handed before it falls to the floor. The hammer-fisted person at your door bangs again and you stride to the door ready to rip them a new one when you open the door and stop stock still.
Red Robin is at your door, but the most surprising part of this is that he’s supporting Dick, who is wincing and sweating like he’s in agony, clothes dishevelled like he’s been roughed up. They step into your apartment together, or more Dick stumbles while Red Robin guides him in.
“Dick, oh my god, are you ok,” you follow them to the settee Red Robin places him on, and your hand smooths over Dick’s bicep. There’s a low moan and a shudder that passes his lips and you pull back worrying you’ve hurt him. “Is he ok?” You look to Red Robin, his white eyes giving you nothing to work from, though the thin set of his mouth makes you worry.
“He’s been exposed to Poison Ivy’s latest pheromone, and if he doesn’t have penetrative sexual intercourse ending in fulfilling ejaculation he will die. He said you would help him through this.”
He almost sounds like he’s reciting something from a book, verbatim, impersonal as he speaks, except for the last bit, he sounds like he’s asking and apologising at the same time. For a moment your brain flatlines, only coming back to life when Dick shudders and groans.
“Gotham is so fucking weird- Alright, thanks for bringing him here, uh…you can go now?” If he finds your dismissal rude, he doesn’t say anything, and judging by the speed he leaves he seems glad to be gone. You crouch down in front of Dick, who looks like he’s in agony, knuckles white where he grips the fabric of his jeans. Reaching out you feel heat radiating from his skin and hesitate for a moment before cupping his cheek.
He leans into it with a sigh that wheedles off into a whine, and his eyes are lidded and heated in a way you’ve never seen before.
“You’re gonna be okay Dick, I’ll look after you.” The words sound like a filthy promise to his mind and he shudders in delight at the thought of all that that entails. It gives him renewed energy and he surges forward, hand sliding around the back of your neck bringing you close enough that he can kiss you messily, hungrily, while moaning into your mouth.
It’s startling but fuck it goes straight to your cunt, like lightning, and you gasp.
He deepens the kiss, tongue sliding deliciously over your lip and your eyes flutter shut as you groan, pushing further into him until his free arm manoeuvres you onto the couch with him, straddling him.
“Please,” he whines against your mouth, his hips jutting up searching for relief between your legs. His hands settle on your hips pushing you down against the solid erection you can feel through both of your clothes. His head falls backward, throat exposed and Adams apple bobbing up and then down as he swallows thickly, gasping at the sensation. It’s as though some sanity or sense comes back to him, his eyes finding yours, “Is this- Is this okay?” He asks, and you see the worry in his eyes and know that if you said ‘no’ he’d not let this go further.
But you don’t say no.
Instead you lean forward, hand sliding under his collar to touch the heated skin of his neck and feel the rumble of his moan along his throat, “Of course it is,” you murmur against his lips, capturing his full bottom lip between yours in a kiss that makes Dick thrust against you as breath catches in his throat.
It’s like your words are the starting gun, and you realise how much Dick has been holding back. His strong arms wrap around you, hands splayed open on your back and pulling you close like he can’t stand the air between your bodies. One hand cradles your head as his hips cant, and you’re moving and turning in one smooth motion and he’s above you now on the couch, his hips between your legs pressed against you.
It's like he doesn’t know what to do with himself: With you. One hand roams your side, clumsily sliding underneath your top so his hot hand can press against your hip and squeeze as he grinds slowly against you. His other hand finds your nipple through your t-shirt, when he realises you’re without a bra the softness of your breast and the hardness of your nipple through thin cotton has him growling against your neck where he bites and licks and sucks in frenzy.
But the noises you’re making in his ear, they are what’s driving him mad. The gasps stopped short by moans and hitching of breath as he does something that makes you writhe underneath him are making his cock weep precum messily, he can feel it. He feels greedy and drinks all of you in, the feel and sound of you underneath him is going to be seared into his memory forever, he thinks through the haze of the need to fuck you until you can only sob his name while you come undone on his cock.
“I knew you’d sound pretty,” he groans against your neck, “You’re so fucking pretty.”
He pulls back and you’re treated to the sight of Dick, sweating and panting as he takes off his black t-shirt. The vision of him, body rippling with heavy breaths, between your legs, stupefies you. You take too long to move for Dick and he’s pulling your top over your head, arms wrapping around you again to bring you against his heated skin. The feel of your bare skin against his has him panting hot breaths across your chest as he leans down to take a hard nipple in his mouth, flicking along it expertly with his tongue before capturing it between his teeth gently.
Your nails scrape along his scalp as your fingers thread through his hair and it makes him whine, “Oh god,” you breathe out, almost overwhelmed by the way he feels on you, it’s all encompassing and you’ve never been so present in your body before. All you can think of is the brush of his calloused hand against your side, the sharp bite of teeth, and the hot tongue that dances over your skin.
And his eyes.
He looks up at you, mouth still on your skin, his eyes are almost black with the way his pupils are blown, but they’re heated as they watch you: And they have been watching you, watching the way you gasp, mouth in a pretty little o shape as you writhe under him. He watches your face as his hand slips under the waistband of your shorts, into your underwear and through the wetness he finds there, fingers pressing into your wet pussy with ease. He could come just by the feel and the sight of you alone as he watches your face when his fingers slip past your lips, almost shocked at how good it feels.
Dick can’t help himself, he moves up your body, fingers still dancing up and down your folds, learning what makes you keen so deliciously. He wants those noises in his ear, like a secret just for him. He presses open mouthed kisses along your jawline as he pushes a finger into you, holding you close when your whole body bucks and the moan you breathe against his ear has him replying with his own.
It’s almost as good as the noise you make when, after a few stoking strokes of his one finger, he slides a second one in, coaxing expertly along your walls to find your g spot and press against it just right. The heel of his hand presses against your clit as he flexes his wrist and crooks his fingers inside of you, stealing your breath away as your arousal coats his fingers generously.
“Dick, let me- please-“ your hand slides down his front, nails grazing his skin in a light drag as your hands land clumsy on his waistband. Reaching underneath you find the hot head of his cock, already smeared with precum, “oh fuck,” you breathe and Dick swallows down the moan. When your fingers swirl through the sticky precum his hips push up, and your hand curls to sheathe him, to squeeze him. His eyes nearly roll back at the sensation, and his head falls to the crook of your neck when you roll your wrist and slide along the thick tip of him.
His skin is hot, almost feverish, and you run a hand through his hair, soothing his groans as you shift to remove your shorts. His hand grips your waist as he sits up to remove his bottoms, like he’s loathe to break contact with you.
When you’re both bare and naked in the midday sun on your couch it’s like time is caught, suspended, like a dust mote in a sunbeam. You both breathe heavy, taking the other in. Dick’s cock is hard and upright, precum glistening where it still beads freshly at the head, the perfect length for you and a thickness that has you biting your lip. Looking down at you from where he kneels between your legs he licks his lips, thirsty for the taste of your skin on his lips again.
It’s not frantic, or desperate when you reach out to him and he lays down above you pressing a kiss between your breasts as you wrap your leg around his waist. The sigh he breathes shudders as he enters you, resting his forehead against the place he’d set a kiss, almost reverent while your fingers tug at his hair and his breath heats the skin of your sternum.
When his arms tremble you know he’s restraining himself.
“Dick,” his name is soft and wanting on your lips and he stills, looking up to see your heated gaze, feels your hips move underneath him, urging him onward, “It’s okay.”
You don’t know what he’s going through, you don’t know how tomorrow will be, but you know you need him to know that now is okay, and you’re here for him.
It’s permission to let go completely.
He sits back then, on his knees still inside of you but not fully, not really. The first thrust goes so deep it’s almost painful, a sharp sudden stab deep within you. But that drag back out makes it all worth it. His hips roll, the sound of wetness against his groin rends the air and it makes everything feel like more. Dick’s eyes raise and he looks intoxicated, you think, eyes unfocused as he thrusts into you at a punishing pace but he looks good and he feels good and his hand is on your cheek, thumb caressing your wet lips before sliding into your mouth where you swirl your tongue and caress it as he digs his fingers into your hip. His thrusts shake you, the sensation of your tits bouncing while you suck on his thumb and god he’s looking at you so fucked out.
When he pulls his thumb out of your mouth there’s a string of spit that glistens for a moment, before breaking and the lewdness compared to your eyes looking up at him lidded and heated for him, because of him, sends him over.
The thrusts go longer, deeper, as he pushes into you as far as he can while he chokes out moans of your name, almost sobbing in relief and ecstasy.
You anchor him, as he comes down from the pheromones. His body collapses next to yours, exhausted and spent: You shift so he can have more space but he just reaches out to hold you close as he pants into your hair.
The hand on his side is soothing, and your body is soft against him, and he decides he just wants to be in this moment for a good long while, happy and content, if a little exhausted. He doesn’t want to think about what tomorrow might bring, hell he doesn’t want to think about what the next hour will bring.
Just now is good.

Demodogs
The funfair is everything you thought it would be, and even more. The colorful lights, the music, the games, the kids running around. It's inebriating, beautiful, mesmerizing... You only wish you could forget what you saw on the road... What you saw a while ago and what James told you he saw. Four beasts so far, if you assume those were all different animals. It probably means there are more, right? Nobody was attacked yet, or else you'd know. News travel fast through Hawkins. But even so, the cops need to know, and whatever it is, it has to be controlled. But what you really need is to know what that is. You think you'll feel better once you know the species, so you can do some research and have some peace of mind.
“(Y/N)? Are you there?” Monica shakes your shoulder lightly, dragging you out of your thoughts. “You look a little pale. Are you feeling alright?”
“Yup. I was just thinking.” You all give a few steps forward when the line for the ferris wheel move.
“I know who you were thinking about,” Christopher says, his arm around Monica's shoulders. “He's coming, by the way.” He tilts his head towards something behind you, and you immediately turn on your heels, and the familiar burning on your stomach hits.
You can't help but smile to see him, walking among the sea of people, eyes fixed on you. It's ok to look now, right? You're dating, you're living together. And Billy looks so... Gorgeous. Hot. Awesome. He's wearing his black leather jacket and a dark blue shirt underneath, which is unbuttoned.
“Hey, princess.” His smile makes your legs weak as he pulls you into a kiss.
“Hey, handsome,” you mutter when you pull away, a hand on the exposed part of his chest. “Haven't you ever heard of buttons, Hargrove?”
“Yeah, but I don't think they're necessary.” He winks and you bite your lip.
“I think I agree,” you whisper before finally turning back to your friends. And, of course, they're all staring with wide eyes. Monica is the only one who knows you're dating. “So, guys... Billy and I.” You mutter, blushing lightly and moving again. You're next in line.
“I knew it!” Jason exclaims, high-fiving Monica. “I knew it, from the beginning.”
“I didn't. I mean... Billy is... Or was...” Christopher struggles with the words, gesturing at Billy and you. “Well it doesn't matter, does it? Congratulations.”
“Careful, Chris. Remember what happened to David last time.” Monica warns him, a smirk on her face.
“Next.” The old man calls and you move.
“Couples first,” Monica says, pulling you and Billy ahead of the others. The car only fits two, so you and Billy go alone.
As you move up, you look down, taking in the amazing view the ferris wheel provides. Billy has an arm around your shoulders, and you lay your head on his shoulder.
“You're quiet. What happened? You sounded very excited about the fair.” Billy asks, placing a kiss on your hair.
You don't want to tell him why you're restless, not today. “I was. I am.” You stutter a little, clearing your throat.
“Are you afraid of heights?”
“No.” You breathe out, cursing yourself for worrying him. “I'm happy, I truly am and this is... This is beautiful and being here with you just makes everything better.” Looking up, you pull him into a kiss, taking in his amazing scent, from the cologne you love so much. “I'm alright, trust me,” you reassure him when we break the kiss.
“(Y/N), you were very, very loud earlier. You literally threw water on me. You can't possibly think I wouldn't notice you acting weird.” Billy keeps his index finger on your chin, forcing you to look into his eyes.
You really wish he could let it go because you don't want to ruin the night, but don't want to lie either. “I just saw something in the woods, but I'm sure it's nothing.” You try hard to keep the fear away from your voice, to keep it casual.
“Was it the same thing you saw the other time?” He asks, the expression on his face changing. It seems that you don't need to ask Billy to believe on what you saw. He does. You have no idea why or how, but it looks like he does. “The same thing James said he saw?”
“Yeah... Two of them. Running, keeping up with the car.” Your voice cracks by the end, as the image comes back to your mind. It's almost surreal that you're so scared of what's probably just some kind of animal. “It's stupid. I'm a big city girl, I'm not used to living this close to the woods.”
“It's not stupid.” He assures you, pecking your lips. “We'll check it out tomorrow, ok?”
“We should tell the police. What if it starts attacking people in the daylight?”
“It won't,” Billy states, not a single hint of doubt in his voice.
“What do you mean it won't? Do you know what it is? Is it nocturnal?” The words come out fast. If he knows what it is, why didn't he tell you on the first time? Billy looks away, taking a deep breath. “Billy?”
“I'll need you to trust me in this, (Y/N).” His voice is different, urgent, deep. Of course you trust him, how could you not?
“I do,” you say in a low voice. “You know I do. Is something going on that I don't know about?” As you speak, your time is over and you're back on the ground. Billy takes your hand and start walking away from the ferris wheel.
“I promise I'll tell you everything. But not here, and not today.” You both stop, and Billy cups your face. “For now, let's us just... Enjoy the moment. How does that sound?”
Taking a deep breath, you nod. It was the plan from the beginning, so you might as well stick to it. “Alright.”
“Come, I'll introduce you to my friends.”
Billy guides you through the fair, holding your hand. His friends are on the Northside, where parking is exclusive for the employees. But you don't think they care. You only know Tommy and Carol, the other two guys and the girl you only know from afar. When they recognize Billy, Tommy raises his hand and waves.
“You'll hate them.” Billy warns.
“Let me be the judge of that,” you whisper as you approach the guys.
“What's up, Billy,” Tommy says, smiling. “...And who's that?”
Of cours they're staring at you. Why would you even hope otherwise? You're not only the new girl, but now you're also the one who actually got Billy Hargrove. People won't just look. They'll stare. “This is (Y/N), my girlfriend,” Billy says and you wave at them. “(Y/N), these are Tommy, Carol, Ryan, Buck, and Emily.”
“Hi. It's nice to meet you, guys.” You simply say, involuntary moving closer to Billy when you notice Ryan's eyes lingering on you.
“Girlfriend? Are you kidding me?” Carol asks, giggling. “I knew you two were hanging out but dating? I must admit I didn't see that coming.”
“Why didn't you introduce her to us earlier, Billy?” Ryan mutters, taking a sip from his can. “Is she too... Pure to hang out with us?”
“Actually, yes,”
“And have you started corrupting her already?" Ryan flashes a smile, and it makes you feel uncomfortable. You can see when his eyes move through your body, up and down, his smile only widening. “Why don't you give me your number, sweetie? I can call when Billy boy here is done with you.”
“Don't you–”
“Do you happen to have Billy's number?” You ask, raising your voice and placing a hand on Billy's chest to stop him from moving. Ryan raises an eyebrow and nods, a big interrogation on his face. “Good. Then you already have my number.”
He bursts into a laugh, furrowing his eyebrows. “Nice one. You could just say no, though.”
“It's not a joke.” Smiling, you feel Billy's arms encircling your waist.
“Wait. Are you two living together or something?” Emily gestures at you and then at Billy, and you feel when he nods. “Shit, it's true then. You're pregnant.” She stands up straight, wide eyes.
“I knew it.” Tommy states.
“That again.” Rolling your eyes, you shake your head lightly. “I'm not pregnant. We're just–”
“Living together,” Billy states, his voice making it clear there will be no further explanation.
Everyone, basically at the same time, gasps, giggles, and Ryan spits out his drink. “Holy shit, Billy. Can't believe you're keeping this one. But this whole innocent act she has going on is very alluring, I must admit.”
“Want me to beat him up a little?” Billy whispers in your ear, and you can hear the anger building up. And you didn't like what Ryan said anyway.
“I did say I wouldn't stop you on the next time so be my guest,” you whisper back, shrugging your shoulders. Who are you to intervene if Billy wants to use his friend as a punching bag?
You give a step back when Billy moves, straight towards Ryan who has the decency of raising both his hands in defeat. “C'mon, Billy. You wouldn't hurt me because of one of your cows, would you? She's just–” Ryan is cut short by a hard punch on his stomach, which makes him bend over and forces the air out of his lungs.
“I would just–” Billy pulls him up again by the collar of his shirt, his fist then connecting to his jaw. “–warn you but–” A kick this time, on the ribs. “–you just can't keep your damn mouth shut, can you?” Billy pushes him violently, and Ryan stumbles down, blood all over his nose and mouth. “I believe my point is made.” He turns to look at the others and you do the same, just now noticing your eyes were fixed on the fight. If you can even call this a fight.
“No screwing with your girl,” Tommy states, exchanging a wide-eyed glance with Carol. “Got it.”
“Let's go, (Y/N).” Billy fixes his jacket and takes your hand. “Want some cotton candy?”
He is acting as if he didn't just leave a bleeding Ryan lying on the ground. “Yeah,” you mumble, raising an eyebrow at his smirk. Billy starts walking, not bothering to wave goodbye at his friends. “Just because I didn't like them it doesn't mean you can't hang out with them. I want to make this very clear.” You have to say it. In a relationship, a person shouldn't try to control who the other hangs out with.
“You're an angel, you know that? The other girls had me for one night and already wanted to control what I–” He stops talking suddenly, shaking his head slightly.
“What? You can say it, I made peace with whatever you did before.” As you speak, you start pulling him on a different direction. This parking lot is outside of the fair, so you're near the back of the attractions. A place gets your attention. It's a bit dark, but there's this blue and purple light, enough to illuminate it just a little bit.
“I know, but I shouldn't compare you to–. Where are you going?”
Not bothering to answer, you just start pulling him harder. “There.”
“I might like where this is going.”
“Jerk,” you mumble, smiling to find that whatever attraction this is, the back is shaped like an L, which gives you a perfect corner to hide. So you move to the very back of it. “Thank you again,” you say, turning around and walking backwards until your back hits the metal wall.
“For what?”
“For defending my honor. It's the second time and now I can thank you better than I did on the first time.” Of course, he already has that smirk on his face. The one you used to hate, that you used to be scared of because it made you feel... Weird. “I–”
The words get caught in your throat when Billy picks you up suddenly, both his hands grabbing your legs and placing them around his waist. You immediately wrap your arms around his neck to steady yourself, giggling. “For the height issue.”
“The height is not an issue,” you tell him, the blue and purple lights illuminating his face enough for you to take in his features. They're already memorized, burned in your brain, but you still like to look. “It's good to be on the same level though.”
“Mhm.” He mumbles and you close your eyes when you feel his lips brushing on yours.
You're used to the burning sensation, the sweet butterflies on your stomach as the anticipation kicks in.
On the moment his lips connect with yours, the amazing, breathtaking sensation is clouded by a groan. A... Growl. Billy pulls away immediately, letting you down. “What was that?” you ask, suddenly aware of the woods across the parking lot.
“Stay here, I–” Another snarl, low and guttural, and then you see it.
The thing comes from behind a large truck, some feet away. You're frozen at the sight. Now you can see it, clearly. And it's not an animal.
It has no fur, just blue, wet skin... And no face. You were right. James was right...
“(Y/N),” Billy calls, but you don't move. “(Y/N), c'mon.”
The thing moves slowly, and you have no idea how, but it knows you're here. It's looking straight at you and Billy, despite having no eyes. You're trying to make your body move, to send any signals to your legs, but it's useless.
Its face starts moving, all of it. You feel Billy grabbing your hand, a distant, numb feeling. Then, the animal's head opens up, and an unnatural growl emerges from its throat at the same moment you're pulled. You don't know how but your legs start working, and you're suddenly running, as fast as you can, back inside the fair. But you feel hunted, pursued. You're among the people again, but Billy keeps running, you don't know where. You can't think. Maybe you're going crazy, but you're pretty sure Billy saw it too. He wouldn't be running if he didn't, right?
“(Y/N),” Billy cups your face, and only then you notice you stopped. The sea of people move around you, but you can't really see it. “Listen. I need you to help me find Maxine. Or any of her friends. Ok?”
You simply nod, taking a deep breath and trying to get yourself back together. “Maxine,” you repeat, clenching your fists. “Or the boys. Alright. But n-no separating to look.” You burst out the last part, holding the collar of his jacket.
“No, we'll stay together. I just need you to–”
“Billy!” A low yell almost lost among the noises reaches you. You both turn your heads at the same time to find Max running, pushing people out of her way. She's with the boys, and someone older. “We gotta go. Now.” She says once she's close.
“We–”
“The Demodogs are back.” Dustin cuts Billy off, his voice getting all funny again. But you don't laugh this time. You're too scared to laugh.
“(Y/N)? Are you ok?” Max asks, and you don't know what to say.
You're feeling sick. There are too many people here, and that thing is out there... What if it starts attacking? There are kids here, toddlers... You feel your body failing, and a strong arm encircles your waist.
“My place. Everyone. Now.” Billy commands as you struggle to stand up, hiding your face on his chest.
Is there any possibility you're having a nightmare?
Because these... These things don't just happen. It doesn't exist, not in real life. It belongs only to sci-fi or horror movies.
Billy has a hand on your knee as you ride shotgun in his car, not listening to whatever Max, Lucas, and Dustin are talking about on the backseat. You're waiting to wake up, you think. Trying to shake the image of that thing's head opening up like it's been sliced apart. You feel how your hands are shaking when you touch your face, trying hard no cry out of desperation.
“Hey,” Billy says in a low voice. “Remember when I told you to trust me?”
Nodding, you dry off the stubborn tears before looking at him. “We'll fix this. I promise you.”
“How? How do we–”
“We'll tell you everything,” Lucas says, cutting in. “I mean, she saw it. She has to know, right?”
“Right. But your brain may explode, so be prepared.” Max touches your shoulder, but you can't understand why they seem so... Calm about this. They're worried, but not deadly, ultimately scared. How in the hell is that possible that you're the only one here on the verge of losing your damn mind?
“Let's get inside,” Billy says when we stop by his place. “And wait for the others.”
You can barely feel your body as you walk to the house. Billy remains by your side on the couch as the boys stay in the kitchen. The low chattering is unlistenable.
“How are you feeling, princess?”
“I don't know how to answer that. I just say a very weird dog cracking its head open.” Running a hand through your hair, you close your eyes shut. “It's about that lab, isn't it? This whole thing smells like some screwed up experiment that went wrong.”
“The truth is actually a lot worse than that.” As he speaks, the door opens and you jump back to your feet, breathing out relieved when you see it's just the rest of the guys. And three more people, about your age.
Everyone gathers around in the living room and you go back to your place beside Billy. It's creepy the way they all keep staring at you, exchanging glances.
“(Y/N), these are Steve, Nancy, and Jonathan. They're part of our party when it comes to... This.” Max starts, and the three of them nod and give you a little wave. “There are also Robin, Hopper, the chief of police and Joy, Will's mom, but they won't get here in time so... Let's just do this.”
Maxine takes the deepest breath, but when you think she'll start speaking, she doesn't.
“I swear to God I'll lose my freaking mind if one of you don't start explaining to me what the hell is going on here because I just saw some–some sick, zombie, dead dog with no face and the head just opened up like one of those carnivorous plants and I'm sure something is very, very wrong and–”
“Alright, I'll do it.” Eleven speaks up, stepping forward and gesturing for Billy to stand up. She takes his place, looking down at her hands before looking at you. “Ready for the strangest story you'll ever hear?”

So I lied I couldn't find the words to write, apologies, however I do have to say let me slide this fanfic by you I wrote on the 13th of May, for mermay!
AO3 LINK:
Underwater Love (Wilford Warfstache x reader)
PROMPT: I keep sinking to the bottom of the sea. Why don't you join and become a mermaid, like me?
_______________________________________________
You hadn't been sure how long you have been visiting these shores, however, it always felt like home. The gentle breeze of the wind and the glimmering sea was all very nice, although there was something you'd always notice, always out of view. A presence in the waters along the rocks. You sat on the sand, allowing some water to touch your feet. It was a quiet day today, not like many people come around anyways. Little did you know a sea fairing spectator was watching you. His dark pink eyes followed you, trying to be as quiet as he can. You were so wonderful to him, a real gem. He'd almost been caught a good number of times, sometimes he'd just get so excited to see you. He usually wouldn't bother this much with a human but you captured his heart.
Wilford decides to get just a bit closer. He didn't mind the thought of being caught as much if it meant he could get a closer look at you. You snap out of your daydreaming to the sound of movement in the waves, sounds like a large creature. You look around, you could have sworn no one was there when you had sat down. As you glance towards the sound of the noise you spot the end of a very pretty pink tail. You stand up to go and look at the sea animal that caused all that noise. Wil has no other choice but to sink downwards. You get there a little too late as you can only see a tuft of dark hair float downwards. You sit on the rock trying to look for it. You sit there for a while, and Wil grows impatient. He wants to meet this person who's captured his attention. The man rises upwards, although he doesn't see the sands and the rocks, only the ocean? He only notices his error after he hears the voice of the person he's been looking at for so long.
"Hello...?"
You only see the back of this person, and it seems he has a strange patch of the same pink you saw earlier along his back.
Wilford wastes no time turning around, "Hello love! How are you?"
His eyes are a beautiful shade of dark pink, skin, a nice beige, with patches of the pretty pink color you saw before, accompanied by a pink mustache. The man's stubble was dark. He had pink and white freckles all over, like a mystical being. His hair was dark but faded to pink, and there were some whisker-like things on the sides of his head. As you process this, he stares in awe of the person he's seeing in front of him. You looked just as good up close, if not even better. He was the first to speak.
"I'll introduce myself first then, the name's Wilford Warfstache, a pleasure to meet you! Might I say you're looking positively stunning today? Oh, where are my manners, what's your name?"
You try to gain your bearings, "I'm Y/N, it's nice to meet you as well. Forgive me if this is rude at all but... What are you?"
Wilford smiles, "Y/N... sounds amazing. It's not rude at all darling! I'm what you humans call a mermaid of sorts, I'd consider myself to resemble those axolotls, no?"
"You do seem to look like those, they're very cute." Something about this man felt so comforting like you could lay in his arms and you'd be ok. The two of you ended up talking for a while, he seemed to take in everything you said and did.
Eventually, he just couldn't take it, Wil wanted to hold your face. He'd never talked to a human like this, nor touched one. He wanted to know what it was like. Wilford's hands were dry enough at this point so he just took his shot. The two of you got very close while talking and moving around, then you felt his hand touch your face. His eyes were bright as he took in every detail of your face, and you were taken aback by the gesture. Realizing how dumb it was Wilford started to take his hand off your face but you hold it in place.
"But I- Y/N you moved away, I thought I did something-" You shushed him.
"No, it's fine Wilford, it's nice."
He holds it there for a bit, not wanting this moment to end. He'd dreamed about being able to meet you, and now you're here. He still couldn't help feeling like something was missing, he wanted to get closer to you. He wants to show you the wonders of this world and show you... what's the word to describe what he's looking for? Oh, love. He's in love. What if you thought it was too soon? Only one way to find out he supposes.
"Y/N, I've been looking at you from a distance for a while, you're so stunning, your very presence could bring color to a dead coral reef gumdrop. Well- I was wonderin' if we could like, go on a date of sorts?" Wil's expression held a great sense of anticipation.
you're flustered by his words. He's asking to go on a date? "I'd love that so much." Your words seem to melt away Wilford's fears and replaced them with anticipation.
"Well sugar, I keep sinking to the bottom of the sea. Why don't you join and become a mermaid, like me? It could be our first date!" Wilford is practically glowing, he couldn't be happier.
You ask, "Can you do that? Turn me into a mermaid, like you?"
Wilford responds affirmatively, "I certainly can! Come on love, there's no time to waste! Oh, for this I'll have to kiss your legs, you alright with that?"
You get flustered at the prospect but agree, and he starts. His kisses are light and leave a tingly sensation in your legs. The kisses pepper your legs and make you feel warm.
"And now one to finish it off gumdrop!" He gently kisses you on the lips, you two melt into it. His hands reach to cup your face, he never wants to let you go. He's so kind and gentle with you, your eyes close involuntarily and the two of you stay like that for a bit. Your legs are even more tingly as he gently lowers you from the smooth rock into the waters, you only open your eyes once he's taken his lips off of yours. He looks at you lovingly.
"I didn't think you could look better but here you are, you look so amazing gumdrop!" He takes a moment to fawn over your new form, and then pulls you over. Swimming with your newfound tail comes to be easier than you thought, and Wilford is here to guide you through it. Being able to breathe underwater is strange, but exhilarating. The two of you share another soft kiss, something he seems to be a master at. Each time it takes your breath away. He's got eyes for you and you alone. You both go on to find a nice spot for your date, although you can't help but feel it's already begun.

Do You Trust Me?
Someone To Stay Ch. 6
Spencer x fem reader
Tumblr media
Y/N POV:
*whack*
You smack your alarm as it goes off for the third time this morning. You look at the clock: 7:15AM. Was it later than you get to sleep in for work? Sure. Did you want to get up this early on your day off? Nope. Between JJ being the planner and Penelope's excitement for the weekend, they had convinced the the group that it would be best to get an early start. It was a several hour drive the to the lake, and they wanted to make the most of our time there.
You roll out of bed and look in the mirror. Sweats and a spaghetti strap tank...this will have to do. You leave your hair in the messy bun that you slept in. Half asleep, you fumble around for some socks and slip on some sandals. A horrific choice you know, but we're going for comfort here, not fashion. It'll be fine. You're not trying to impress anyone, and you'll fix yourself up once you get to the lake. You fully intend to nap part of the way there. You don't even bother to grab breakfast. Instead, you grab your bags you packed the night before and head downstairs. Spencer is probably waiting on you already.
You see him pulling the car up, right on time, as you make your way down the stairs. You slide into the passenger side, setting your bag down in the back seat. Reaching into a road trip bag in your lap, you pull out a blanket and pillow and curl up in your seat.
"Good morning sleepyhead" he chuckles. "Not a morning person, huh?"
You grin. "What gave it away?"
He hands you a paper bag and a coffee cup.
"Don't worry, it's green tea and honey" he reassures you, sensing your hesitation.
"I also got you a bagel."
"I don't know who's been giving you trade secrets but food is really the number one way to win me over." You glance over to see a slight smirk on his face. "How are you so awake? You had time to get ready, grab food, drive to my apartment, and you still seem more awake than I do."
"I'm kind of used to not getting much sleep." He shrugs this off as if it's nothing. You sense he doesn't intend on explaining any further, so you decide not to push him.
"I brought some snacks too. You're welcome to anything you'd like." You pull out a some goldfish, fruit gummies, and Capri suns.
He responds with a laugh.
"Ok you have the appetite of a ten year old."
You feel embarrassed for a moment until you see the smile he's giving you.
"It's cute though."
You find yourself blushing, not used to compliments. "Yeah I guess sometimes I just like to let loose, let my inner child out. Not everything has to be so serious all the time, ya know? What we do, both of us...it's stressful stuff. Sometimes eating whatever the heck I feel like helps with that. If that means chocolate milk and cocoa crispies cereal for dinner then so be it!"
Spencer gives you another smile before holding his hand out. "Alright, you won me over. I'll take a Capri sun."
You can't help but laugh as you watch him try to insert the straw with one hand and drive with the other. After awhile you decide to help him out.
"Here, let me see that." You fix the straw and hand him back the drink. "Goober" you laugh as you rolls your eyes at him.
"So what all are you planning on doing at the lake this weekend?" He asks.
"The question is...what am I NOT going to do?"
"Ugh." He rolls his eyes and laughs. "No fair. You're athletic, coordinated. You can actually do all the fun stuff."
You turn to face him with an incredulous look on your face, jaw dropped. "You're kidding me right? Me? Athletic? That's funny!" You laugh shaking your head. "Nahh I'd say we're on a level playing field. I'm not coordinated at all! I just like go have fun, try adventurous things. Like kayaking, I'm just mediocre but I still love doing it. The only sport I ever did was swimming."
"Ha! You were a swimmer, we're going to a lake, and you think we're on a level playing field?"
"Ok fair enough" you concede. "Will you at least try something new this weekend? Please?" You bat your big brown eyes at him, a technique that rarely failed you.
He feigns a look of annoyance, before a smile finally starts teasing at the corner of his lips. "Alright, alright." He throws his hands up in surrender. "But only if you help me with whatever it is we do. A swimmer and a nurse, you're practically our lifeguard for the weekend. Don't let me drown, ok?" He teases.
"Well since you asked so nicely." You give him a playful punch in the arm as you both laugh.
After a brief moment of silence you hear Spencer speak up. "Did you know that Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympian of all time, winning 28 medals in total, 23 of those being gold medals? He swam in his first Olympic Games at only 15 years old, and won his first gold medal at 19. And you...already knew this didn't you?" He stops when he sees your eyebrows raised, giving him a slight smirk.
"Yeah Spencer" you smile, shaking your head at him. "I don't mind though. I like hearing all the cool stuff you know."
You spend awhile listening to Spencer talk about everything from Olympic swimming facts to CPR statistics and the origin of the different swimming strokes. A lot of it you don't know already, and you enjoy learning all of this stuff from him. After awhile, you unintentionally drift off to sleep.
He looks over and smiles, he doesn't mind. This happens to him quite often, and the fact that you encouraged him to share his knowledge gives him comfort. He reaches over and pulls the blanket over your shoulders. Hoping to drown out the sound of the highway, he puts on some classical music at a low volume.
You wake up a couple hours later as you hear the loud sound of gravel under the tires.
"Morning sunshine" he grins at you.
"Oh I'm sorry! I wasn't going to make you drive the whole way."
"It's ok, you got your rest. Better you be rested up and have fun today than stay awake just to drive."
"Thanks Spencer." You smile to yourself. He really was very sweet. Good friends are hard to come by, especially ones you can trust that will stick around. You secretly hope that Spencer doesn't plan on dropping you as a friend anytime soon.
You climb out of the car and take a look around. You've arrived at a modest log cabin, sitting right on the edge of the lake. It's surrounded by y'all trees, so thick that you can't see any buildings anywhere else, if there are any. You stand there for a moment taking it all. You lean your head back and close your eyes, enjoying the sounds and smells of nature. It felt like home. You grab your bag out of the backseat and make your way along a dirt path toward the cabin. You stick yourself hand out by your side, brushing the leaves on the trees as you walk by.
"You really are in your element here, huh?" you hear Spencer call out from behind you.
"Oh you have no idea. Just wait till I get in the water" you shout back over your shoulder.
The two of you make your way into what appears to be the common living room. The cabin appears to be completely wooden everywhere, floors, ceilings, walls, beams. There's rustic decor and lots of plaid, but it's done tastefully. It feels so cozy, and you love it.
"Y/N! You made it! We're in here!" You see Penelope's head pop out of a doorway. You enter a room to find two sets of bunk beds. Penelope and Alex have taken bottom bunks. JJ has her stuff placed on the top bunk above Alex. You set your suitcase in an empty corner and throw your pillow on the bed above Penelope. You feel her sneak up and pull you into a tight hug. "Hey bunk buddy! This weekend is going to be so fun!"
"I'm surprised Penny, the outdoors don't seem like your type of weekend."
"Oh don't worry honey! I brought a float with coasters and a tray for the lake! I'll be sipping on wine and tanning all weekend."
"Just make sure to wear sunscreen okay." You give her a nudge and a smile.
"Okay Nurse Y/L/N." She rolls her eyes and laughs.
"Don't worry! I brought enough sunscreen for everyone."
"Haha, of course you did Aunt JJ."
You look over to see her unpacking her suitcase and organizing her things in the drawers and closets. You decide to do the same, that way it will be easier to find all your things later. After you've all finished unpacking, Alex says she's going to take a quick nap. After getting ready in your swim wear and coverups, you, Penelope, and JJ wander over to the guys room to see what they're up to.
You peek in to see Spencer reading on the bunk above Hotch, who appears to be on a FaceTime call with his son, Jack. Rossi isn't in the room. He's probably already started organizing things in the kitchen. Derek looks like he's ready for the lake, already in swim trunks and rubbing on sun tan lotion.
"You need any help with that, hot rod?" Penelope jests.
"You know it mama."
At this response, Penelope runs quickly across to room and helps Derek to finish rubbing in the suntan lotion on his back. She looks to be enjoying it a little too much.
You and JJ stay leaning in the doorway, laughing.
You finally speak up. "I don't know about y'all, but I've been stuck in a car all day! So if you need me, I'll be out at the lake!"
"I'm right behind, ya." JJ turns to follow you.
At this, Spencer finally pops up from behind his book. "Oh umm, we're going outside now? What are you going to do?"
"I don't know yet Spencer, come with us and we'll figure it out."
You wait on him while he changes into some swim trunks and a t shirt. He stands in the doorway a bit awkwardly, hesitant to leave the cabin.
"Come on!" You grab his hand pulling him out onto the porch and down toward the lake, following behind JJ, Penelope, and Derek.
When you get to the waters edge, you see the group has already spotted a rope swing. Derek appears to be climbing into a position to jump from. JJ stops him, to test the integrity of the rope first.
Penelope watches as Derek effortlessly climbs up the rocks. "My monkey man" she smirks.
Once JJ seems satisfied that the rope won't break, Derek swings out over the water, doing a back flip before making a splash in the water that sprays everyone watching from the shore. A chorus of groans rings out, half from annoyance at the show off, half from not wanting to get splashed.
You remove your shoes and your coverup as you prepare to get in the water. You can tell Spencer is making a conscious effort to avert his gaze. You blush, suddenly remembering the girls' previous comments about how good you looked in the slick back two piece.
You quickly make your way up the rocks and grab onto the rope as it swings back towards you. Spencer gives you a concerned look.
"Are you sure you want to do that? You could get hurt!" He shouts up at you.
Instead of answering you give him a quick smirk. You back up and get a running start for momentum, holding onto the rope as you swing out over the water. You let the momentum push you out as far as it will take you, as you angle your arms and body to dive deep into the water, just like you used to off the starting block in swimming. As you feel your body dive down into the water, you angle back up and do a quick, few dolphin kicks, propelling yourself much further from the shore. When you finally surface, you're about 20 or so meters from the shore. You see the group staring at where you dove into the water, confused and concerned.
"Over here guys!" You shout at the group to get their attention. They look up to see you much further away than they expected.
"Hey, you weren't kidding!" Spencer laughed.
"We might have to have ourselves a little competition little miss mermaid!" You laugh at Derek's new nickname for you.
You do a few strokes to bring you back to shore as you climb out of the water. You slick your hair back out of your eyes as you wring your hair out.
"Alright Spencer! Your turn!"
You giggle as you grab his hand and drag him towards the rocks.
"Umm yeah this is definitely not a good idea. You clearly know what you're doing, but I will definitely hurt myself. Did you know that drownings are the third leading cause of unintentional deaths?"
"Stop being such a party pooper! Loosen up a bit. Now climb." You cross your arms giving him a look that lets him know you mean business.
"If you fall, your knight in shining armor, Y/N will catch you!" Derek shouts from his spot where he's swimming in the lake. JJ and Penelope are watching from a float shaped like a giant unicorn. Typical Penny.
"Shut up, Derek!" Spencer shouts back at him.
You can tell that he's actually nervous, and not just unwilling to participate, so you decide to climb up after him.
"How about we go together?" You smile at him.
"Can we do that?" He asks, clearly not believing you.
"Yeah! See how there's a plank of wood on the bottom here? There's room for both of us to stand. And then we just hold onto the rope. We'll back up to get some momentum, then right when we get to the edge, we'll hop on the rope ok. But make sure to let go before it swings back towards the rocks."
The look he's giving you says he still doesn't think this will work.
You take his hand in yours, giving it a quick squeeze. "Do you trust me?"
You see the anxiety wash away as he's overcome by comfort. "Yeah, I do actually" he smiles, squeezing your hand back.
"On three okay? One...two...three!"
Before you know it, the two of you are landing in the water. You both come up for air as he starts a splash fight with you. You're both giggling and splashing like little kids, but having the time of your life. You feel water peg you in the back of the head. You turn around to see Hotch and Rossi armed with oversized water guns, peeking out from behind the trees on the shore.
"Hey that's not fair! We're unarmed!" You shout at the two men.
"Come join our team!" Rossi yells back. You and Spencer look at each other confused. You look up to see Alex carrying four water guns out to the water toward Derek, JJ, and Penny.
You and Spencer turn to each other, each with a huge grin. "Oh it's on!" You say.
"It's so on!" he replies before you both make your way onto shore as quickly as possible. Hotch and Rossi hand you each a weapon and the war commences.
After a long fight, the team in the lake finally surrenders. Your team is the clear winner.
"Winner's get dinner first!" Rossi shouts before the four of you make a mad dash for the cabin. You grab your towel, guessing that Alex had laid it out for you, as you see the other ladies' towels laid out as well well. Rossi had the dinner on warmers, so it's all ready for you. As the four of you take your plates full of food to the dining table outside, you pass your opponents. A series of snickers and goofy faces ensues as your team teases them endlessly.
You felt so comfortable around all of them. For people with such serious jobs, they sure do know how to let loose and have fun.
A/N:
